Converting a library

Hoping someone can help. I'm trying to convert a library that was created in CS to a CS3 library. The problem is ... it's asking for plug-ins that were tied to CS when the library was created. I still have them around ... tried moving them to the CS3 plug-in folder and at the end of conversion, it still fails.
Help?

Chino,
You can select all of your songs at once or any number of adjacent tracks and convert them. Click on the first song in your list, hold down the shift key and click on the last one. This will highlight the whole selection in between. Then just right click and choose "Convert Selection To" There's more on converting to another format at this link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93123
If you are doing your whole library you'll have a lot of duplicates to delete. To easily identify them add the Kind column to your library view. Click at the top of any column and from the menu that appears choose Kind. Later when you have completed your conversion you can sort your library on this column and quickly identify the tracks by format and delete the ones you don't require.

  • Can I convert Linux library to Solaris?

Im sun user. using SUN FIRE V1280.
I got free crypto library compiled on Linux. Im using solaris sparc.
I couldn't run this code, due to different archeticture.
How to convert this library to solaris sparc, so that i can run it.
the library file extention is ".a"
    Thanks in advance

You cannot convert a binary created for an x86 platform for use on a SPARC platform.
See if you cant get a Solaris/SPARC version of the binary. If not, maybe you can get the source code and build it yourself.

  • After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this?

After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this? I can see the library icon on my external drive, but it doesn't show as a library in iPhoto. When I double click on the icon, nothing happens. When I choose it from alternate menu, doesn't open. Where do I get help?

Do you have a back up? What version of iPhoto do you have? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Aperture - Converting Managed Library to Referenced Library?

I goofed. I've been using Aperture for a while, and I now realize that by importing my image files directly into my Aperture library on my 1TB iMac hard drive, this managed library is now 430GB... I need to streamline. I understand (now) the benefit of using reference libraries wherein the image files themselves are stored elsewhere (I have a 3TB external USB drive) and the Aperture library accesses/utilizes the files from that location. The big question - how do I convert my current managed library to that referenced library model? If I copy my entire 430GB Aperture library folder from the iMac hard drive 'Pictures' folder over to the 3TB external drive, it's still a managed library in that new external drive location but now with USB access times added to the Aperture work flow... correct?
I'm assuming I need to somehow 'export' my image files to the 3TB external drive, and then tell Aperture to build a reference library off of those image files - correct? If so, is there an specific way to do this? Also, if I create a referenced library as described above, I assume that in the future I will need to import image files from my camera to the 3TB external drive outside of Aperture, and then use Aperture to import them from that 3TB drive into the Aperture reference library via Aperture 'Import'... correct?
Thanks in advance for any insight here.

It's all a lot easier than you expect.
Libraries are neither managed nor referenced, they are just libraries. It's the images within the libraries that can be either managed (stored with the library) or referenced (stored external to it). So within a single library you can have a combination of both (if you have a reason to).
But the simple answer to your question is, select all your photos, and from the file menu choose "Relocate Originals". It will prompt you for where to store them. Create a folder on your external (eg "Masters" or "Originals") and chose a folder structure to store them in (I use the project name for subfolders - but more complex options can be created using 'edit'). Press relocate button and go have a well earned beer while it relocates them for you.

  • How to batch convert entire library from raw to jpeg

I would like to know if it is possible to convert my entire iphoto library from mostly raw to jpeg and save as different library. The reason for this is ATV2 will only stream  8gigs at a time and it is annoying and inconvienent to go upstairs to change the selected album settings in itunes when viewing a different group of albums (my library is mostly raw files and tops out at about 300gigs. If entire library is selected ATV2 diisplays the library titles no problem but if attempting to view one it displays the loading gear wheel forever on the screen. I'm sure if I can convert the whole thing to jpeg and preserve the directory structure this will solve the problem as it will be  a much smaller file.
Thanks is advance for any thoughts on this.
    Dave

I would like to know if it is possible to convert my entire iphoto library from mostly raw to jpeg and save as different library.
File -> Export and select Jpeg as the format. Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events. You can then import that to an iPhoto Library.

  • Lightroom:  Converting entire library to DNG

I'm intersted in converting my entire library to DNG in Lightroom 5 without losing any quality and
    maintaining the most flexibility possible.
Currently I have all of my folders organized chronologically.
Unfortunatley, over time I have switched back and forth between xmp and catalog based metadata which
has left some folders with xmp and others without.
I want everything to be consistent and ultimatley more efficient for Lightrooms performance.
What is the cleanest, safest and most comprehensive steps to accomplish this?
What boxes should I check in the "covert to dng" dialog box?
Lossy will reduce the file size but compromise quality, correct?
Any other tips for things that come up along the way would be greatly appreciated.
    All the best,
    Alex

    Alexander Herring wrote:
•the file is the same quality and yet a smaller file
Most of the size reduction comes from reduced jpeg preview, raw data compression is about the same. Save fast-load data, xmp, and a full-size/high quality jpeg in there and it will be bigger than the original raw. Don't take my word for it - do the test!
    Alexander Herring wrote:
•dng allows the option to turn on FAST MODE in Lightroom which is up to 8x faster
    That's pure crap.
    Alexander Herring wrote:
•no need for a side car xmp, which make the file more easily transportable
Whether sidecars are a net plus or minus is a subject of constant debate in this forum. I keep all my raws in proprietary format, but frequently give other people DNGs, in order to assure the sidecar isn't dropped. But I wish sidecars were an option for all file types including DNG & jpeg...
    Alexander Herring wrote:
•dng is non proprietary which is more stable for archive becasue it's an open source
Remember: you can convert to DNG at any time, but you can't convert back. Well, actually, you can revert with a little help from UnDNG.
    Alexander Herring wrote:
Having not taken such a large step like this with my entire library I thought it wise to see if anyone had and if there were any pitfalls
by doing to much at a time, etc
Lots of people convert to DNG and are proud of it - the only practical problem you may run into is if using non Adobe-converted-DNG compatible software. I mean, if you try 100,000 at once you may not make it through, since Lr often has memory leaks which can gang up, etc. but you can always restart.
    Alexander Herring wrote:
Ultimatley for me, having my files in an open source format make me more comforable about the future
In my opinion, the warm fuzzy feeling you get converting to DNG is the only good reason to do it (or the main reason anyway).

  • Converting WMA library to MP3 when transfer to the iPOD

After long time I decided to transfer my 2000CD's to the iTunes on WMA format to loos not quality.
The transfer job is still not finish, but I have 1 Tera with music. Now I want to transfer all, or almost all this music to my iPod Classic 160G. Obviously I have to convert to MP3.
But I don't see how to do that without coping on the same iTunes library a duplicate of my songs on MP3. Do somebody knows how transfer my WMA iTunes music to the iPod converting on the way to MP3, and without making a MP3 duplicate on my HD?
    Thank you

Do somebody knows how transfer my WMA iTunes music
When you added the wma files to iTunes, iTunes has already converted them to whatever you have selected in iTunes prefs-> Advanced - Importing.
They are not in iTunes as a wma file.
You can set iTunes prefs-> Advanced - Importing to MP3.
The delete the files you have added from WMA.
Re-add the same WMA files and iTunes will convert them to MP3 as it adds them to iTunes.

  • Anyway to get trial A3 to convert A2 library before purchasing?

I ordered the upgrade version of Aperture 3 from Apple the minute it was released and chose standard shipping...big mistake. Five days later, my upgrade is sitting 5 hours south of here in Orlando (makes no sense) and now won't be delivered until Tuesday (Monday is President's Day). I would have just purchased the upgrade through the trial download, but I got a discount by ordering the physical copy with my NAPP membership.
I had hoped to have it by the weekend to have ample time to convert everything over and troubleshoot, if necessary. So, now I am thinking about installing the trial and seeing if I can't somehow get it to convert my A2 library. I've read on other boards where some people are having success by restoring a vault backup of their A2 library or going to File>Import>Library/Project, and Aperture 3 trial will supposedly make a copy of my Aperture 2 Library and upgrade it.
If I'm successful, I assume I can just input my A3 serial when it finally arrives to remove the trial status. Has anybody tried this?

    Susan,
yes, I'm still on the Trial with no serial number.
I just wanted to see how Aperture 3 will handle my 30k referenced photos. And since I could not convert my Ap2 library with Ap3 trial, I decided to just import my Ap2 library. This worked nicely although it took a while.
Afterwards I had to do some additional actions (please excuse if not correctly translated from my german Ap3 version!):
    - Reprocess Masters (to get the greyed out brushes to work)
    - Deleted and re-created my previews (other settings to reduce my lib size)
The second action was also required to let the photos show up in iTunes to be synched with my iPhone
In my opinion this brought me to similar results as having my Ap2 lib converted. Got all projects and photos and Intelligent Albums in perfect conditions and with no loss (I think).
    Some hints:
    - Make a copy of your Ap2 lib.
    - Open that copy by dragging it on the Ap2 program icon.
    - Delete ALL of your previews!
Importing previews massively increased the time for the import and I had to delete and re-create them afterwards after re-processing masters due to the Brushes/iTunes/iPhone issues.
But ... I regret that I did play around with Faces then. This did eat all my 8 GB memory and crashed several "hundred" times and made starting up Ap3 a good chance for a coffee. Or two. Or three...
I switched Faces off again and am happy now with my Ap3 trial and all my pics imported.
Good luck and have fun testing!
I'm REALLY amazed by especially the new brushes in Ap3 and DON'T want to work with Ap2 again

  • Converting movie library from DV to Mpeg

I have a number of DV imports in my iMovie 08 library, but they take up such a huge amount of HD space. Is there an easy way to convert these to mpeg and keep them in my library without having to add them to a project, export them and then reimport them?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Is there an easy way to convert these to mpeg and keep them in my library without having to add them to a project, export them and then reimport them?
If you are done creating your project in iMovie, the normal procedure is to archive and/or remove the raw footage from your hard drive and keep the project output files for viewing/sharing. iMovie is not intended to be a a video manager or multimedia player like iTunes, the QT Player, or Front Row.
As to actually converting your files to MPEG-2, You can simply use iDVD or Ti Toast to create Video_TS Folders/image files which can be left stored on your hard drive but this limits you to applications like Front Row, the Apple DVD Player, VLC, MPEG Streamclip or similar applications for playback. Programs like bitVice or Compressor can be used to create elementary MPEG-2 and AIFF streams playable in QT (if you have the MPEG-2 component installed) or other multimedia players. My own personal choice would be to use iTunes to manage the default H.264/AAC files produced by iMovie '08 for viewing in iTunes, Front Row, QT Player, iPhone, iPod, TV, and can also be shared on-line giving you the most options for viewing and sharing.

  • Convert iTunes Library.itl back to 10.7

    Hello,
I have been trialling iTunes 11 since it was released and have decided that I really do not like it and want to go back to 10.7. I know how to roll back the software - in fact have already done it once after a preliminary trial!
However, if I use Time Machine to simply restore the library.itl file to the 10.7 version, I will lose all changes to my playcount etc over the last two months. Is there therefore a way to convert the existing iTunes 11 itl file back to the 10.7 version?

    I do not believe so.

  • Converting my Library from one Mac to a new one

Is there some tutorial that explains how I can get my iTunes Library from an iMac to a new MacBook Pro? My iMac has a CD-burning drive, not a DVD one, so I need a better option.
Can I go from my iMac to an external hard drive, and then from the hard drive to the new MacBook Pro? I was under the impression I had to go to some sort of physical media (CD/DVD) but some people are saying that I can actually use an external hard drive be the 'go-between' here.
My iMac has 10.4.11 (Tiger) but my new MacBook will have Snow Leopard most likely once I buy it. Do I need to have the exact same OS on my iMac as I do on the MacBook in order for this to work, or is that a non-issue?
    Thanks!

You can use any media you like to transfer the music from one device to another.
Apple have posted a 'how to' using an iPod as an external hard drive. You can do exactly the same with your external drive.
    Here is is :-
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
Just follow the instruction from the 'Copy iTunes folder to iPod' section but copy to your external harddrive instead.

  • Photo in 10.10.3 converted iPhoto library, but lost photos.

Forced conversion to photo from iPhoto has now lost all files in iPhoto.  After upgrade, lost only some photos.. thumbnails there, but got big ! when trying to open.
Restarted photo with option-command key down, which allowed it to rebuild library.  Now photo will not see the library at all.  All 66 Gb of photos gone! (file is there, but iPhoto won't run, and photo won't see it.  Help

The forced migration was the 10.10.3 install.  I was aware of the difference in libraries... photo would not open the photo library any more. (even after repairing). When it was partially working, it would not show many old pics (maybe they lacked metadata?).  In any event, from other threads, I am reloading iPhoto.  Hopefully that will work again, and I can forget Photos... it looks half baked and certainly I have no desire to put 66 Gb of photos on the cloud.
So.. is there a way to restore syncing between iPhone and iPhoto in 10.10.3?? that will be my new problem if iPhoto works again.

Aperture is my go to program and I have about 10 GB of photos.

There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/Storage 1/Storage/Aperture libraries/iPhoto Library - sort thru.aplibrary”.
    MacBoo Pro
    Using OSX Lion 10.7.5
    Extra RAM installed
Can somebody tell me that this can be worked around?  I am worried that years of carefully stored and backed up photos are inaccessible.

I am worried that years of carefully stored and backed up photos are inaccessible.
If you are referring to the images or libraries on the Dobro please remember that RAID is not backup. You still need  regular backups of your  image files and libraries separate from the Dobro.
