Converting a .numbers file to an image?
I have a spreadsheet that I will be updating every so often that I want to present to a group of people on a message board as an image. Is there a way to convert a .numbers file to an image, or can I convert to an image once I convert the .numbers to pdf or .xls?
If you don't need the entire spreadsheet but only a portion, you can use screenshots. OSX comes prebuilt with some great shortcuts that give you multiple ways of getting them, far more flexible than M$. Look at this website that has the shortcuts listed and explained:
http://guides.macrumors.com/TakingScreenshots_in_Mac_OSX
Example: I almost never use Preview to convert because I can just use CMD & Shift & 4 to get a cross-hair and create a perfect tiff of the area I drag the cross-hairs around, right on the desktop.

Converting many numbers files to PDFs?
Hi everyone!
I would like to convert many Numbers files to PDF documents. Every Numbers document should be a new PDF with the same name!
I even tried to write a workflow file with Automator, but I dont get the "create a PDF"-part running.
Furthermore I googled for 2 hours, but all scripts I found do not work with the latest Numbers version...
Please help me... Maybe one of you have a Apple Script or a solution using Automator?
OS X 10.9.3
Numbers Version 3.2 (1861)Dear Lori,
promptUser =false, see below.
Does not work.
All programs that might disturbe PDF output removed from computer.
Does not work.
I am now investing some evenings into Word-VBA, making a script loop through the subdirectories over several levels (does Acrobat do that anyway?)...
Does not work.
Not yet.
It will have to...
best regards,
Boris

Hi,
i made a numbers file which includes pictures, which i put in by drag and drop. But when i convert the file in excel, the pictures dissappear. Does anyone have a hint for me?
Thanks!Numbers supports pictures as objects added to a sheet, and as images used as background fill.
Excel does not support "sheets" as defined in Numbers, nor does it support 'image fill' in cells.
If your use requires excel, and requires pictures, you may need to use Excel, or one of the open source substitutes for Excel, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice.

How can I convert a numbers' file from iPad to an excel file on macbook pro?
When I try to open a numbers file from my ipad mini in macbook pro, it appears unformated. How can I solve this situation? I don't have numbers on Macbook pro...is it necessary?
I havne't had this problem myself, so I can only guess, but my first suggestion, if you haven't already, is to try sending it to yourself via email from the ipad & when it asks you for the format, choose excel.

How do I convert an flv file to still images?
This may sound stupid, but I have a downloaded flv file, and I want to use about
8 seconds to make still images so I can trace into Illustrator and then export it into Flash. (both are older versions).
Is this possible?
It is for an animinated logo.

Everybody's wrong wrong wrong. You don't need garageband. Select the song, go to info. You need to select a start and stop time for the song that can't be any longer than 40 seconds in length. Then in advanced mode you convert the song to acc. once done locate the file on the computer. it should end in .m4a . Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.
That's it! Works every time. Or for those who want easier:

HT201279 convert Numbers file to Excel format
When I convert my Numbers file to Excel format, each worksheet name is appended with "Table - 1".
Each subsequent conversion adds another "Table - 1" to the name of every worksheet as well.
How do I stop this from happening? If you are exporting then importing repeatedly, it will keep appending these things to the names.
Numbers document with two sheets, both with a single table called "Table 1" will get exported as two Excel worksheets: "Sheet 1 - Table 1" and "Sheet 2 - Table 1". It creates a separate Excel worksheet for every table and names each with the sheet and table name.
Reimporting this to Numbers will result in a Numbers document with a sheet called "Sheet 1 - Table 1" and another called "Sheet 2 - Table 1" and both will contain a single table called "Table 1". It imports each Excel worksheet as a Numbers Sheet and creates a table for each called "Table 1".
It really doesn't work well to import & export repeatedly. Much better to use one app or the other. -
When printing a numbers file to pdf hyperlinks disappear
I have created a Numbers file containing text in cells that link to a web page. It works perfectly in the Numbers file itself, but once converted ('printed') to PDF using the OS X print functionality in Numbers, the text in the cells is still underlined, but links have disappeared...
What you actually need is file file conversion app
that could convert the Numbers file to a PDF file.
Most any "print to PDF" does just the same thing as
printing to an actual printer. It simpy images the file
just as any printer driver would do but puts the results
into a PDF file. Put simply, the PDF file becomes
a sheet of paper. -
How to convert Numbers files to pdf
Hi. I have a large number of Numbers documents I want to give to my book-keeper. She doesn't use a Mac, so she can't use Numbers files. I want to convert them to PDF so she can view them.
I've been converting them manually. This is what I do:
1) Open the Numbers file.
2) Choose Print.
3) Select "All Sheets". This is important because I have 5 sheets in each document.
4) Choose "Save as PDF".
5) The default name is fine, so press OK.
6) Close the Numbers file.
I have hundreds of these files. Is there a way I can automate the process of converting them?
Thanks for the help!Hello
You may try the following script. It will ask you to choose folder where Numbers files reside and then export every Numbers file in the chosen folder as PDF. Export destination folder will be the last folder you used for export. So you'd better export one file in advance and select the export destination folder you want to use. It will replace existing pdf file in destination folder.
Menu text are assumed in English and hard coded in script. For languages other than English, please edit the following three properties in export_as_pdf() handler:
property export_menu : "Export…"
property image_quality : "Good" -- Good | Better | Best
property layout : "Sheet View" -- Sheet View | Page View
The first one is menu item name of File > Export… (note … is U+2026 HORIZONTAL ELLIPSIS, which can be inputted by option ; in English keyboard for instance) and the rest are for options in Export sheet.
Tested with Numbers 2.0.5 under OSX 10.6.5.
Hope this may help,
H

I received a Numbers file created in iWorks version 8 or earlier, but only have the newest version of Numbers on my MacBook Air. I can't request the sender to reformat the file. Is there any way to convert the file so I can open it in the new Numbers version?
Are you sure you don't still have Numbers from iWork '09 on your MacBook Air. My Mid 2012 does. To be certain you can look in the Applications folder to see if there is an iWork 09 folder. You can also use Spotlight search to see if it will find that Numbers as well as the current one.
If you do find to 09 version: iWork '09 and iWork '08: File compatibility -
I have a late 2013 retina display MacBook Pro and want to use Boot Camp to run one piece of software that is run exclusively on Windows operating systems. I have a Windows 8.1 download from MS that is an .exe file, and I need to convert it (I believe) to an ISO image on a flash drive. How do I convert the .exe file to an ISO image?
If you want to use Mac OS X at the same time as Windows, run one of these:
VMWare Fusion
Parallels
Virtual Box (Open Source)
If you are willing to alternate Boot Windows -OR- Mac OS X, all you need is Bootcamp Assistant (and your Windows installer, of course.)
>>NB In any case, do not allow Windows to directly modify the Partition Map or change the size of any Partition. That will wipe out the Partition Map, and Mac OS X. Windows is not a pleasant guest. -
How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel? I already have MS office for Mac, but nothing comes up when I click on the imported file.
If it indeed has been converted from Numbers to Excel, it will have a .xlsx suffix at the end of the name. Do a Get Info on the file if the suffix doesn't show. Else, it may still be in Numbers format and be unreadable by Excel.
If it is in the right format, and you don't want to have to do what mende1 has instructed above for every successive file, click on the "Always open with..." option. That will associate the .xlsx suffix to Excel from thereon. -
Trouble converting powerpoint files with png images to pdf-Can someone help?
Hello all,
In my line of work, I create and modify large sized posters that are created in powerpoint. I would have the files print ready by converting them to pdf. I usually have little to no issues executing this. However, I have been dealing with an issue of converting ppt files with png images. The size of the ppt is typically a 42x56 file. The several ways to convert to pdf produces an error each time. Png images are very useful as they provide much clarity vs jpegs or tiffs. The 3 ways I have tried below are:
A) File>Print>Adobe PDF>High Quality print settings/300dpi results to an error message that says:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current print setup. Try one of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
*Reinstall the printer driver"
A blank pdf opens up (Selected to open file after publishing)
B) File>Save as> Change file type as a pdf results in nothing happening. No pdf is produced.
C) Acrobat>Create PDF results to an error message that says: "An unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
Again, this all happens with ppt files with png images. I took out the png images and attempted to convert to pdf, and the pdf is produced!
Can anyone provide any assistance in creating pdfs with png images or what settings I need to adjust? I am able to covert every other image type (jpeg, tiff, bmp), except for png images.
I am using Microsoft Office 2010 with Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 (This happened on Windows XP as well).>I have a 48 slide presentation that has a small .png image in the "slide
>master" so it will show up on every page.
PowerPoint only has to store one instance of the image even thought it is
displayed on multiple slides. But Acrobat can't do the same, the image has
to be stored for every page that it appears on, so that would explain the
larger file size.
Acrobat is supposed to be able to optimize the storage of common background
images (at least that's the message I see when I do a "Save as..."), but I
have yet to see it to work. Maybe it depends on the application the orginal
file is created in and the PDF conversion method used.
Adding the image into a PDF file later as a watermark instead may be a way
to keep the size down (then it really only does store the object once),
though I believe that watermark images will appear in front of everything
else on the page (not sure if that's a problem for you, it depends on
whether any text or objects in the presentation ever appear in front of the
image).
What are the dimensions and resolution of the image in PowerPoint? You may
be able to go as low as 75 dpi and not notice a difference, it depends on
whether the image contains any areas of high contrast or text. -
Images lost in converting Word 2007 file to PDF
I have a Word 2007 document (docx), with inserted JPGs. If the text wrapping of the images is set to anything but "in line with text", the images do not appear in the PDF file created from the docx. I have tried many different combinations of Acrobat preferences (image compression on or off; standard vs. high quality print; different DPI settings; etc.). This appears to be a new problem, as I have converted many Word docx's with images to PDFs in the past. A document that I converted to PDF a year ago no longer converts properly! I'm running Windows 7 Pro and using Acrobat Pro X. Office 2007 has SP3 (and I suspect that's the problem). Has anyone else had the problem, and, if so, found a fix?
Hi, Bill,
I have the doc/docx converter, though I haven't tested if if gives any different result from letting Word 2003 simply open the docx. I'm on travel now and can't test this until later.
The doc file looks perfect in Word 2007 on my Win 7 machine.
Printing to Adobe PDF gives the same problem - no images.
Re positioning with reflow: I'm not sure exactly where you find options termed 'reflow,' but I tried 3 options in Compatibility and Layout (Word options --> Advance --> Compatibility options):
In the menu of Compatibility options: "Lay out this documents as if created in Microsoft Word 2003"
In the sub-menu Layout options: "Use Word 2003 indent rules for text next to wrapped objects"
In Layout options: I turned off the indent rules and chose "Use printer metrics to lay out document" (and I used this with "Create PDF" inside Word 2007 and with print to Adobe PDF)
In all 3 (or, really, 4) cases, the images were lost. Please let me know if any of these options comprise the reflow options. Please note also that I'm not trying to print the document, as I think you realize; I want to create email-able PDFs that have positioned images, as I have always been able to do in the past.
If there's not much more to tweak here, I may bit the bullet and do a system restore to pre-SP3 update on Office 2007. Tedious, but no more tedious than all the things I've tried so far.
Thanks, Vince -
Batch Convert From Excel Files To Numbers?
Is there any way to batch convert all my excel files into numbers files without individually opening each document and saving it out?
Thanks,

Here is a script which does the job for one document.
I leave as an exercise [ ] it's insertion in a loop treating the docs stored in a given folder.
--[SCRIPT]
property theApp : "Numbers"
set docAW6 to (path to desktop as Unicode text) & "Chèques_bidon.cwk"
set nw to my getNbWindows()
tell application "Numbers" to open file docAW6
repeat (* wait until the file is really open *)
if my getNbWindows() > nw then exit repeat
end repeat
(* click the button "drop advertisements" *)
tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to click button 2 of sheet 1 of window 1
delay 0.2
(* Opens the Save dialog *)
tell application theApp to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to keystroke "s" using {command down}
delay 0.2
(* click the button Save *)
tell application theApp to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to click button 1 of sheet 1 of window 1
delay 0.2
(* close the doc's window *)
tell application theApp to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to keystroke "w" using {command down}
on getNbWindows()
tell application "System Events"
tell process theApp to set _ to count of windows
end tell -- application System Events
return _
end getNbWindows
--[/SCRIPT]
I don't put checks so it's your responsability to activate the GUI scripting.
