Converting ALAC library to MP3 for Micro? HELP

Hi Guys I have a large ALAC itunes library that I stream and use modded Ipods for listening. I bought a Microphoto for the car and am having trouble mirroring my Itunes ALAC Library (All CD Ripped) into the Creative Media Source downconverting to MP3. Can you help me? Im lost.

Thank You Winston. My guess is that you are correct. Your answer is one of the reasons why I ask, there is no clear answer I can find from Apple/iTunes, yet here is a link from macworld that seems to say you can through Match.
http://www.macworld.com/article/1163658/itunes_match_what_you_need_to_know.html
As such, if you have a poorly-encoded (or Digital Rights Management-encumbered) copy of a song you own or have authorization for—and that song exists in iTunes’s 20 million song catalog—you can re-download those tracks as 256-kbps DRM-free AAC files.
Here is the iTunes match description from Apple;
iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 26 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are your music is already in iCloud.3 And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes uploads what it can’t match (which is much faster than uploading your entire music library). Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.
Once your music is in iCloud, you can play it from any of your devices. Just browse the complete list of all your music stored in the cloud and tap to play to it. You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store), but only what you play or download is stored on your device. Tap the iCloud download button to download music from an artist, album, or playlist. So you have immediate access to a huge music library without having to worry about the storage space on your device.
So my question remains if I download it can I copy it to my Android device on a memory card and play it in a non apple player? It seems as though once you sign up and all my music is matched, I can download it.

  • I know how to convert WMA to AAC/MP3 for Itunes

I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by "Kind". Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.

Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.

  • Converting WMA library to MP3 when transfer to the iPOD

After long time I decided to transfer my 2000CD's to the iTunes on WMA format to loos not quality.
The transfer job is still not finish, but I have 1 Tera with music. Now I want to transfer all, or almost all this music to my iPod Classic 160G. Obviously I have to convert to MP3.
But I don't see how to do that without coping on the same iTunes library a duplicate of my songs on MP3. Do somebody knows how transfer my WMA iTunes music to the iPod converting on the way to MP3, and without making a MP3 duplicate on my HD?
    Thank you

Do somebody knows how transfer my WMA iTunes music
When you added the wma files to iTunes, iTunes has already converted them to whatever you have selected in iTunes prefs-> Advanced - Importing.
They are not in iTunes as a wma file.
You can set iTunes prefs-> Advanced - Importing to MP3.
The delete the files you have added from WMA.
Re-add the same WMA files and iTunes will convert them to MP3 as it adds them to iTunes.

  • Converting M4A to MP3 for use in Zen Mi

Can anyone recommend a good utility program (no spyware) that I can use to convert M4a files to MP3 for play in my Micro? Currently I am burning to cd then ripping again in MP3 format which is a hassle and I believe the quality declines during this conversion process. Any recommendations?
Apple had to screw it up with having their own proprietary format...

It would not be the file format conversion that would be the issue, but the DRM (digital rights management) that is in the AAC (M4A) format. Also that is not a proprietary Apple format. AAC is the audio layer of MPEG-2; Apple used it as it could carry DRM which in turn controls how you can use the music track. AAC is also quite good at high compression, ie low bit rate, but gives way to mp3 as the bit rates get higher.
You are stuck in doing what you are doing, that is burning an audio cd from your aac file then ripping/encoding to mp3 or wma to play on the Creative players.
(Makes you think about the cost of a CD vs downloading a compressed file doesn't it's)

  • How to convert MP4 to MP3 for export

I want to convert an MP4 file in my iTunes library to MP3 for export via email. I know how to convert a CD on import by the preferences settings. And I know I can burn an MP3 CD. I just want to take a simgle MP4 file in my library, and convert it to MP3 in order to share with someone who can't read MP4.

Ah so that's how it works.
    I understand now. Thanks.

  • How can I import my library as mp3 or AAC 256

Under iTunes 10.7 you use to be able to import your Music (Hard drive iTunes Music Library) into iTunes as a different format. Useful when space was limited with MBP or you needed to create a new library of MP3 for your car or another type portable that only takes mp3.
I was trying to do this will 11.4 but it only has "Add to Library"  and the import settings are only for importing from a CD.
I am trying to import my lossless iTunes music folder into itunes on my MBP and take up less space but maintain folder hierarchy
I don't want to try and convert each album individually (233 gb of music that I imported from CDs)
Is there a way now to do this or a very very good batch program that will do it
    Thanks for any help.
Loss of functionality ie sidebar (why I am not on 12), loss of import functions   Apple seems to be dumbing down itunes

You are given the chance to specify import format as part of ripping a CD.  For files that already exist on the computer they simply get added to iTunes and you then convert them to a second format as needed.
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 - including information about different formats and discussion about compression.  For iTunes 11.
In iTunes11: File > Create New Version
In iTunes11 "Create..."  is in the File menu, not the Advanced menu.  Prior to iTunes11 use iTunes menu > Advanced
I have the feeling you are not going about things correctly.  Why is there the sudden need to convert 233 GB of files which have already been ripped, unless you ripped them originally as AIFF and want to save in a smaller format?
If you want to convert without using iTunes check XLD or Max audio converters.

    Hi
    How do I convert mp4s to mp3s?

Go to iTunes>Preferences>General and choose the Import Settings button. Pick the format you want to convert your files to (MP3 for example). in your iTunes library or playlist highlight the song or songs you want to convert and go to the Advanced menu on the top bar of iTunes and choose, again for example "Create MP3 version": How to convert a song to a different file format format

  • Can't burn a playlist from my library to MP3 format

I Tunes says I can burn a playlist from my library to MP3 format and Help even tells you how to make the settings. When I do this it says that I cannot burn into MP3 format because music purchased from I Tunes. Is this correct ? I thought that I Tunes, I Pod and Mac was all about using your music. I have an MP3 CD player in my car and wanted a MP3 disk.
Am I doing something wrong ?

I have 75 songs on the playlist, burning a CD would require 4 disks, 20 songs per CD. In MP3 format I could get up to 200 songs per disk. I usually play my Ipod through the radio via a transmitter, but at times there is just too much interference. I just purchased a new vehicle that has a CD that takes MP3 format, so I figured I could just burn a playlist in MP3 format. What good is the CD if you cant make a MP3 formatted disk. There must be a way to do this. ITunes shows you how to set up to burn in MP3 format so I'm figuring if you can't why would they show you how to set it up ??
    Thanks

  • Need help with an automator workflow to convert AAC files to MP3

    Hi
I am trying to work out a way to automatically convert voice memos which I dictate on my iPhone to MP3 files when they are added to my iTunes library during a sync. Then I need the converted files to be in a specific folder so that they will trigger an auto-transcription program that I have running.
From my limited knowledge of automating processes on my Mac it would seem that I need to design a workflow or a folder action in Automator. Probably a folder action would be best, as I could attach it to the 'Voice Memos' folder in my iTunes Music Folder. The converted MP3 files would be saved in the same folder and would then be recognised by the transcription program. I have tried to design a workflow/folder action using Doug's iTunes automator actions as follows, but it is not working as I would like. The workflow is as follows:
    Folder Action/Get Folder Contents/Choose encoder (MP3)/Convert Tracks/Choose encoder (apple lossless)/Restore Encoder.
The folder action is triggered when I add AAC files to the folder I have attached the action to, but then I get an error message stating that 'no tracks have been sent to this action'.
i would be grateful for any help to get this working using the automator method or another method
    thanks

  • How do I convert my iTunes Match library to MP3?

I have several thousand AAC files that I created by importing part of my CD collection to iTunes Match. Because these files were created from my own CDs, rather than purchased as digital downloads, there is no DRM issue.
However, I want to be able to play these files on an MP3 player. From what I understand, I can select MP3 in my import settings, which will cause future imports to be in MP3 format, but that does not affect the files I already have.
I can right-click a bunch of files and say "Convert to MP3," but that creates duplicates of each song, so that the songs then play twice.
What I really want to do is create an MP3 copy of everything in my iTunes library, and put those MP3 files into a collection of separate folders that follow the structure of the folders already in my iTunes library. Is there a way to do this?
Again, let me emphasize that there is no DRM issue here: All of these files were created by iTunes Match from CDs that I purchased and still own. The only question is how to put these files into a format that another device can play.

Back up your library. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested approach.
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced take a note of the current media folder, then click the change button and create a new folder, perhaps inside inside the current one, or at the root of a drive where there is plenty of free space for your duplicates. E.g. C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\MP3 or D:\MP3. Do not consolidate media to the new path if/when prompted.
Take a note of the date and time. Select all of the tracks that you want convert and set the conversion running. When the conversion is complete reset the media folder back to the original path. Again do not consolidate.
Sorting the Songs list by date added, delete the recent additions to the library. If prompted to send files to the recycle bin (which would happen if you make the MP3 folder inside iTunes Media) say no.
Your library should be back as it was when you started, but you have a parallel set of MP3 files for your non-Apple device.

  • How do I convert an audio CD format album in my library into MP3

Here's my problem. I have two vehicles. The older vehicle only plays audio CDs and the newer vehicle will play MP3 songs. So I want to burn two CDs, an audio and an MP3.
I imported my original CDs into iTunes and kept them in the original format, not as MP3. I then burned an audio CD and it plays correctly. Now I want to burn an MP3 CD but got an error that iTunes cannot burn the MP3 CD as the original songs are not in MP3 format. I don't know how to convert these songs to MP3 and in all the help info I have read there is nothing about this.
I really don't want to delete these songs from the library and re-import them as MP3. that's a lot of music and time.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, George

You can use iTunes to convert the songs from your CDs to another format. When you convert a song in iTunes it will be converted to the format that you have set to import your CDs in. Converting creates a second copy of the song in the format you have chosen which gives you the opportunity to either keep or delete the original. You can get details on these pages:
How to convert a song to a different format

Well, this question really belongs in the iTunes forum, which is where you will get fast answers.
Just go to iTunes Preferences.  Click on the General icon.  Set When you insert a CD to Ask to Import CD.  Click on Import Settings.  Set Import to MP3 decoder.  Make sure you're using Good Quality.
This should deal with your CD's.
With your current music, as long as it does not have DRM restrictions (older iTunes Music did), select the song, right click on the song (or group of songs), pull down to Create MP3 version.

  • Converting aac to mp3 for a cd

    Hello
Is t possible to convert my iTunes library (aac format) to mp3 in order to burn a mp3-cd? I couldn't do it, iTunes tells me that none of the songs are in mp3 format. Do I have to bring all the cd's again to my library in mp3-format? There's 7 gigabits of stuff so it'll take a while if that's the case...

Before I go into detail, with store bought Songs from iTUnes, there in a "AAC protected format" and can not be converted, you have to first burn them to a audio CD, then "Re"import them as MP3
For all other songs you will first goto edit>preferences>Advanced tab>importing sub tab and set it to MP3 and the bit rate you choose (Usually a high bit rate is better when converting songs from AAC or other formats)
With that done you can rightclick each song one by one and hit "Convert to MP3" or you can select/highlight one song, hold the shift key, and select the last song, this will highlight every song inbetween the first and last song (More on iTUnes shortcut keys here http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/shortcuts/ ) When you convert songs like this iTUnes will list 2 of the same song, one is the original, the second one will be the converted file

  • How do I convert a .wma Audio file from a pc to .mp3 for itunes on a mac

I downloaded music from my PC laptop into an external drive. When I connected the external drive to the mac, the .wma Audio files from the PC will not transfer to iTunes on the Mac.
    Thanks for any help.

iTunes on the PC will convert wma. iTunes on a Mac won't.
On your PC, add the wma files to iTunes.
iTunes will convert to whatever you have set in iTunes prefs > General - Import settings.
Then copy the imported files to the external then File > Add to library on the Mac.
