Converting all my mp3s to w

I'm getting semi-close to filling up my zen sleek (only a few more gbs left on it), so I'm going to convert ALL my music to wmas, I think. Creative audio converter works good/fast for me, so I'm going to use that. Now, on the "Set Destination Format" options, under WMA, what should I choose? Should I leave it at 28 kbps? I just want to make sure I keep the quality good and make the size smaller. Thanks.

Number - Coverting MP3 files to WMA files will result in files that sound much worse that if you had created the WMA files directly from the CDs. Far better to re-rip than convert.
Number 2 - Coverting from MP3-28 to WMA28 will result in files that are exactly the same size, which sound worse because of the recompression.
If you really want to do this, we need to know the bitrate of your MP3 files. If you are starting with 28kbps MP3, then I would just leave them alone. The quality loss to go to a lower bitrate WMA will be huge.
If you are starting with 320kbps MP3 files, then you can save lots of space going to 28kbps WMA files. You will give up a bit of sound quality, but it could be acceptable. You would need to test it out to see what you think.
I would NEVER go below 28kbps WMA....

Can anyone help, I have lots of music on my computer for my old mp3 player, I want a copy of this music in my itunes file.
When I go to do this is only converts a very small amount of the music into itunes - 17gb of 62gb.  Do i need a peice of software to convert all the files??
Please help me I have tried everything, I cant delete all the songs in itunes again...

    Helen,
If they are MP3s, you can simply add them to iTunes without conversion.
If they are in a format that iTunes cannot handle, you need convert them first, with a converter.

  • Should I convert all my iTunes MP3 files to AAC?

Somehow, I only learned about the advantages of the AAC format a few days ago--despite getting my first Apple computer way back in 1984.
Would it make sense to convert all 80 GB of my iTunes MP3 files to AAC in order so save disk space in my backup before migrating to Yosemite?
Thanks again everybody for all your great help and suggestions.

No. If you originally got them from CDs, you can reimport them as AAC if desired.

  • How to convert all Caf files to WAV/mp3?

I have been using Soundtrack pro to edit my audio for videos, but I am going to make the move to Pro Tools. The Apple sound effects and loops are really nice, but pretty much no applications support them. I have been exporting the cafs in Compressor to mp3s, but they are not replacing the old ones and staying in the files that I need them to stay them in for the sake of organization. Is there a way to batch export all of these caf files and RETAIN their location in their specific folders (i.e. animals, Sci-Fi, Foley)?
If so, please tell me how! Thanks!

I am not sure about batch converting all your files. But if you want to get them into a Pro Tools session you can send your sequence back to Final Cut and then export an OMF. You can use CAF files in final cut directly and when the OMF is created they make it into Pro Tools fine.

  • Can't convert MIDI to mp3 after update to iTunes 6.0.2

    Hi,
I had no troubles in the past converting Midi to mp3 in iTunes, but after updating to 6.0.2 I get an "unknown error" (-50) when trying to do so. This occurs on both machines, my iBook (OS 10.3.9) and my iMac (10.4.4). Can anyone help me?
    iMac G5 (10.4.4), iBook G4 (10.3.9) Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have exactly the same experience. Similar setup to yours. This is obviously a bug. All we can do is report it to Apple Bug Reporting:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
There may be a way to convert the files that doesn't use iTunes, so if anybody knows about it please tell us!

With out burning a cd first, BUT It told me to convert selection too, then choose a folder for the songs you want to convert. Then it saids if you purchased songs from the music store you can't....Well that's a lot of help.... Is there a web site to conver songs over too. That you dont have to pay for... Then I can convert all my songs over to and then add them to my mp3 player.... And still waiting for the same answer.. So if you have a mp3 player and it worked for you please let me know, Thanks, champs 97

Open iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> Importing. Set to MP3, WAV, AIFF, AAC or Apple Lossless (whatever you want to convert TO.)
Next select the song you want to convert, go to menu Advanced -> Convert to (whatever you set in the prefs).
Set it back to AAC when done.

  • Convert all images to DNG without stopping for errors

When I convert images to dng format i don't sit around by my computer and wait for them all to convert. I have better things to do. I will go run an arrand or convert a bunch while i go to sleep. The problem is that lightroom stops converting when it encounters an error. Can you make a feature that will skip the picture with the error and log it to a log book so I know which ones didn't get converted. This way, when i come back to my computer the next day, I don't have to start the long agonizing process all over again, I can just work with the error photos to see what the problem is.
The same problem could happen with importing, or exporting, or converting to jpeg and exporting. These are all very time consumeing batch processes that need to have the option to skip error photos and log them to a log book instead of suspending the whole export, import, etc.
    Thanks!!!!!

I want to claw back some space from iTunes by making all my music AAC, as this seems to be about two thirds file size compared to AIFF and MP3.
    This is incorrect.
AAC and MP3 are almost identical in files size at the same bit rate.
At 128 kbps, songs are ~ 1 MB per minute.
At 128 kbps, file sizes are ~1/10th the size of AIFF or WAV.
Is there a quick way to do this without duplicating each file in the process using export?
You don't use export to convert songs.
Ideally, you want to convert from the best quality file (the CD) available.
Converting from one lossy format (AAC or MP3) to another lossy format will further degrade the quality.
    If you want to convert all your music to AAC;
Open iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing.
Select AAC 128 kbps. This is the default and a good compromise between size and quality. MP3 at 128 kbps will not be as good as AAC at 128 kbps.
Select all the songs you want to convert.
Go to menu Advanced -> Aconvert selections to AAC.
Once it has finished, you can delete the old files.
To find them easily, menu Edit -> View options and select Kind.
Click on this box in the column header to sort on this. Delete the files which are not AAC.

  • I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

make sure you have the exact path written correctly. If you can, show what the filename is in itunes, and the filename when you are looking at the song files (i.e. through my comuter). Make sure these are the same, and that they are all usable itunes formats.

  • Mass convert WMA to MP3

I have 2600 songs on my hard drive. They are all WMA. I would like to use iTunes, but would like to convert all my music to MP3 to play in iTunes (and transfer with iPod). Can iTunes do this, or will I have to do it the hard way?
    Thanks

I have the files on my external HD as well (as backup). So I can set iTunes to read from that Music folder and point to a new itunes folder, and set the advanced settings to convert to MP3. So then I'd have a mirror (sorta) between my WMA and MP3 folders (with exception of DRM stuff).

  • HELP! Trying to convert avi to mp3

Allow me to begin this by saying I have browsed other forum topics, but felt that any questions/responses weren't quite what I was looking for. If this is the wrong place or board, please feel free to let me know and I will delete.
    Here's the situation:
I am working on a project using the demo software Sound Slides for a class. I used one of those Flip cameras to capture some sound clips and an interview. The files are all avi files, and I am having an extremely difficult time converting them to mp3 so that I can edit the audio in GarageBand to upload into the Sound Slides software.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, either through a downloadable (preferably free) program, or something on my MacBook already, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I have the Adobe Creative Suite if any of those programs would be able to do this for me.
    Thanks to all.

Since I could accurately convert the Sound Slide files through alternative means, I just contacted them, upgraded to a registered version, and converted through them.
Thanks for all the suggestions, though. Nice to know if I've got any future questions, there are people out there to help.

  • Converting M4A to MP3.  Help needed.

I have over 12,000 songs in my library. About half of my songs were imported in mp3 format. The other half are AAC audio files. My goal is to have all of my songs in mp3.
So, I started to 'convert' the AAC files to mp3 using the right click in iTunes. Then I noticed something. Let's say the original m4a file for a certain song was 4.56MB. Now, after it's been converted to mp3 the file has doubled in size to 9.12MB. Even though I deleted the orginal m4a. What is going on? How can convert all my songs to mp3 and not have any of the data left of the m4a?
    Thank you so much

Sounds like you are using a much larger bit rate for importing MP3 tracks than AAC tracks. For example, normally, AAC files default to a bit rate of 128kbps unless you go into the import preference and pick a higher custom rate. Likewise, you can change your import preference to MP3 and pick different rates, 128, 160, 192, 256, etc.
In general, AAC files are a bit smaller than the SAME bit rate MP3 track, so a 128-AAC should be a bit smaller than a 128-MP3. But for the sake of argument, let's say they are the same size. If you imported a lot of AAC files at 128 and are not using an import MP3 setting of 256 kbps, then the MP3 files will be roughly twice the size as the AAC files.
So first thing to check is what bit rate are the AAC files you already have and what bitrate you are now using for MP3 files. If the MP3 bit rate is much larger than the AAC bit rate, then you will get much larger files sizes.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Converting songs to mp3s

I just tried to convert all the songs on one of my playlists to mp3 format. I followed all the directions, and when I went to burn a mp3 cd it wouldn't let me. Then I looked at the info on the songs they said that they were in AAC format. WHAT DO I DO TO BURN A MP3 CD?
      Windows XP   Dell

I don't know if iTunes for Windows is exactly the same as for Mac. But this is what you need to do.
    1) change your preferences>importing from ACC to MP3
    2) under the tools? menu there will be command "convert to MP3"
    3) Select the songs you want and then select the "convert to MP3"
    4) Put the converted MP3 files in a separate playlist and burn your MP3 (data) disk.
    Hope this helps

  • Converting WMA to MP3 files - struggling

Bckground info - compaq presario laptop (3-4 years old)
Problem experienced -  is trying to convert WMA to MP3 files to transfer to flash drive for use through he usb port in my audio amp. Can't find a means in WMP and struggled with Winff and Jodix, neither of which seem to want to transfer the files once identified. Any safe suggestions. (just downloaded a load of dross from Google in a search for Jodix amongst which was something called YAC which was most reluctant to uninstall).

iTunes cannot use wma files so it needs to convert them.
They will not get added to iTunes until they are converted so you cannot choose to convert them later.
I noticed I cannot load additional WMA files during the conversion process. I have to wait until the process is complete before loading more files.
Why not add them all at once?
File -> *Add folder to library* and pick the top level folder where the wma files are.
