Converting an App from Single Edition to Subscription

Hi,
I've created a free, Professional Single Edtion app for my client. It's already been published on iTunes. They are now expressing interest in converting it into a free subscription app. Can I make these modifications and update the app w/Apple or do I need to remove the existing singel edition from the store and submit and brand new app? I'm trying to figure out a way of doing this without confusing existing customers. Thanks!
Darin

You don't need to remove the single-folio app first. In iTunes Connect, you'll add a new version. In DPS App Builder, you'll need to create a new app rather than editing the existing one.
When you create a free subscription app, you'll need to use the iOS Provisioning Portal to configure your App ID to enable push notifications, create push certificates, and re-build your mobileprovision files (because you edited the App ID). You'll also need to use iTunes Connect to create a free subscription in-app purchase with a Product ID that you'll specify in DPS App Builder, enable Newsstand, and submit a new version. See the publishing companion guide for details.

  • Converting old newsstand app to Single Edition

We set up a Newsstand Subscription-based app last year and published one of the issues. Then it was decided not to carry on investing in our Professional account of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. We were able to encourage subscribers onto another app built by a 3rd party magazine app producer so they could have their remaining issues. The problem we have is that people who bought the first issue in our Adobe DPS-built app now won't be able to use it if they have upgraded to iOS8 because it was built in v26 and simply won't open. I am unable to change the app to a new version because I no longer have a Professional account. I was hoping that I would be able to convert the app from a newsstand-based app into a single edition app, for sale in the app store and resubmit the binary in v32. From the thread above is sounds like I won't be able to do this. Is there another solution to this problem?

(Branched from a much older thread)
You can't move an app from newsstand to non-newsstand, Apple doesn't allow it. You would need to create a new application as a single edition, submit it to Apple, and it would live stand-alone, separate from your old Newsstand app.

  • Transfer from Single Edition App to Multifolio

Can I use the same name of the app (APP ID), if I wanted to change my app from single editon to multifolio (pro or enterprise)?

Yes. Just upload the new viewer configured as a multi-folio app to iTunes, replacing the old one. You might have to contact product support to get them to reset the version number for you to one that is larger than the previous single edition app's version number.

  • Upgrade from Single Edition to Professional

We have just upgraded to Professional from Single Edition. When we submit our folio (for iPhone) to the App Builder we are asked for a Title ID and password. We put our Adobe ID and password and only got: “Bundle account has no publication“
This is now the standard message we get, even if we are only updating older Single edition apps!!
We need an answer to this problem a.s.a.p
    ... Help please.
    thank you,
    Yngvi

Yes, you need a different Adobe ID for each app you create. That's how you determine which folios you publish appear in which apps. You might want to read the getting started guide for pro publishers.

  • Updating an existing DPS app via single edition

Okay, so I already have an app live on the app store which I published a few months ago using the DPS Single Edition platform.
I would now like to update/upgrade this app on the apple store with a new folio.
Just recently, I upgraded to a new iMac and made sure to copy all material on my hard drive which included all the certificates, so that I can use them again for an update.
I found a great tutorial Digital Publishing Suite Help | Publishing folios to the Distribution Service to update my app but have come across an issue.
The problem I am facing now is that when I log on to the DPS App Builder platform and try and edit the current app I get this error message....
If you can't see the error message clearly it says....
    Missing folio
The folio included in this application is missing. The app was
initially created on another computer machine, the folio file has been
moved or the App Builder application storage was deleted
I don't understand what this actually means as I have copied all files from my old computer with reference to the first app on to my new one......
Can someone help me out here please. How do I fix this problem?
    Thanks
    Myles

    Thanks for your reply Neil.
Okay, so I created a new app via the DPS App Builder, filled in all the app details plus the mobile provision files.
Inserted the dev p12 certificate plus passwords and tested the app on my iPad with great success.
The problem I am having now is downloading the distribution app.
When I click Distribution App in the Downloads column of my new app, select my p12 distribution certificate and proceed to enter the password, a red square is seen around the Distribution P12 Certificate box.
I have used the same certificates as last time as instructed.
Do you think there may be a problem with the fact that there are now 2 apps in the DPS App Builder using the same P12 Certificate even though I will be replacing the old one in iTunes when I get there?
Any help would be much appreciate.
    Thanks
    Myles

  • Private publication from Single Edition?

    Hello.
I'm developing a couple of brochures for a company that wants them to be downloaded to their iPads sellers, but they don't want them to be visible for everyone. May I use Single Editions to publish the brochures and make them private, so only users with a password may download them?
    Thanks, regards!

With DPS single edition, private/internal distribution of your app is not possible. You need DPS Enterprise to be able to do that.
Anyone can create and share folios with anyone regradless of whether you own DPS or not. But the sahring feature is meant for content proofing and approval from colleagues/Boss/anyone (pre-production proofing workflow) and may not cater your private distribution needs.

  • Moving from single edition to proffesional edition

I recently created a single edition app with my creative cloud subscription for the company I work for. They like it so much that we are now going to purchae a proffesional edition.
My first task is to creat the same publicaton that I did with the iPad for the iPhone.
I do not currently have the proffesional edition subscription, but I should be able to still build it in InDesign, I jsut won't be able to test it out yet.
What I need to know is how to go about making this. Do I create a new document using the dimentions of the iPhone, or do I create an alternate layout? The same thing with the kindle and android devices, are they new documents or just alternate layouts with one document?
    Thanks for your help
P.S. Let me know if there is anyhting esle I should consider before I undertake this project.
    Josh

To create the iPhone folio for your multi-folio app, you have two choices: (1) create a single 480x320 folio using multi-rendition articles as needed or (2) create 480x320 and 960x640 renditions. I prefer the second option. I create 480x320 source files and import the same set of documents into the two different folios. Note that the iPhone 5 letterboxes the content, but in the near future, the 1136x640 size will be supported. See this article for details:
    Creating content for the iPhone
To create Android renditions, you have a lot more options. See these articles:

  • Genereate an android app with single edition ?

    Hello to all
How to Build an Android application with DPS Single Edition?
I saw "Aquafadas solution" have the advantage of being able to generate Apps for any support, which makes sense!
But then, I'm trained, perfected for months on the DPS, but it is not simple for me to trainning Aquafadas again  : - \, especially since I do not find it necessarily intuitive ... it is my opinion Personal.
Is there any other solution to generate an application on your iPhone or Android device with another tt the single Edition?! unless you go on the Professional or Entreprise solution??
Frankly, even for Adobe, I see they have a significant shortfall, even if they are generating app for "Free" for iPad only THAT, they should at least provide a winning formula for each device but that it is at least accessible to little companies, as do the AQUAFADAS solution as well.
To my knowledge the only way to generate it is to switch to formula DPS business or pro price completely unacceptable finally pay € 4,000 / year that's crazy!
    A solution proposal?
    PS. Sorry for my english

You can’t. DPS SE is iPad only.

  • Updating App For Single Edition

My app in the App Store but I need to make a few changes. Since I am a single editon creative cloud subscriber, it seems as if I can't update the app that is already in the App Store. Is this true? I have to create a new app and submit it to Apple again?
If so, how do I delete my old app from the App Store?
    Thanks

Yes, you need to recreate the app and submit it to Apple as an update.

  • Updating app with Single Edition/Creative Cloud.

From my understanding, with the Creative Cloud version of the Digital Publishing Suite, you can do FREE updates, but you cannot have more than 1 magizine/issue? Is this correct? My plan would be to do updates every quarter of the year with new information, but I know I cannot afford the $499 month (we are a non-profit).
I'm completely ok with the old not being avaliable and being replaced with the new book.

You can not produce an app with multiple issues using CC DPS.
You can produce with it as many selfcontained single apps as you wish.
And you can update your apps already in iTunes Store with new binaries created in CC DPS.
If you replace one app with a new one chances are Apple will not object publishing a quarterly mag this way...

  • Is it possible to convert an app from 12c to 11g?

    I am using both 11.1.2.4 and 12.1.2.0.
If I have an app built with 12.1.2.0, which does not include any 12c specific features, is it possible to convert it to 11.1.2.4?
I am asking because I have a Development environment that is 12c, but a Production environment that is 11g and I am not sure we will be able to upgrade the Production environment
    Thanks in advance..

It's possible but not an easy task. As 12c uses newer stuff you have to test everything with great care. You might find some things you have to rebuild add they won't work in 11.1.2.4.0 (e.g. components which are only available in 12c. If you read the what's new doc for 12c and you find something you have used, prepare to rebuild this part.
First thing to try ids to open the project in 11.1.2.4.0 and see if you can compile and run the app.

  • How can i convert my apps from one apple id to a different one

i originally had two id's. I forgot my first one and made up a second one.  when i updated my phone i cloud went to one and my other one stayed. problem is i no longer have access to my old email to verify it and now i cannot update any of my apps.  have tried removing them from my one and reinstalling them and that did not work. some one please HELP!!!!!!!!!

All 3rd party apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. It is not possible to transfer DRM from one iTunes account to another.
Why would you need to verify your old iTunes account? All you need is the password for the iTunes account. You don't know the password for your old iTunes account?

  • Switching from Professional Edition to Single Edition

    Hello,
I am considering downgrading my app from Professional Edition to Single Edition with the CC. I have some questions I cannot find on the FAQ.
How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
Our app is free. Do we still have to purchase fulfillments? Are unlimited downloads/views included?
    Is the webviewer option available?
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
I am finding conflicting information. On the comparison chart it shows that you can PREVIEW your app on multiple devices. Can I launch an app on iPhone, Android and iPad?
I currently meet all the neccessary requirements for my app. Certificates, Apple Dev license, and everything is set up with iTunes Connect. Can this information "roll over"/be applied if I cancel my professional Edition and move to the CC Single Edition?
    Is social sharing available?
Your help is appreciated. Thank you

How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
There are no fulfillments in Single Edition. The content is packaged into the app you submit to Apple. Bob Levine has a good place that explains the basics of Single Edition vs. multi-issue apps: http://boblevine.us/digital-publishing-suite-101-single-edition-vs-multi-folio-apps/.
    Is the webviewer option available?
    No.
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
With a Creative Cloud account you can currently create as many Single Edition applications as you want, but those are individual applications. See the link I posted above for more details on this.
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
Correct. Single Edition apps are only supported for iPad.
Can this information "roll over"/be applied...
Your iTunes developer account and certificates are completely independent from DPS. You can use the same developer account and certificates to create Single Edition apps as a Creative Cloud customer.
    Is social sharing available?
    No.

  • Single Edition DPS adding articles, FEES?

If I publish a folio with my single edition through the cloud that has 5 articles, can I add 4 more articles to that same folio at a later date? And then add 2 more articles at another date? And if I can, do I just delete that folio and upload the new one? What would the workflow be to do this? and MOST IMPORTANT, what if any fees/costs are involved in doing this.
Would love an answer to this. Thanks everyone

You cannot add articles once your app is approved by Apple but yes can add articles even after publishing folio. There is no need to delete folio and can use same folio.
The workflow of DPS Single edition is different from other editions thus there is difference in publishing process.  You can only publish as private and then you will have to export the Zip file from Folio producer which you already did as you wrote. Now that same zip has to be imported in Viewer Builder while building your custom viewer.
You need first use your Serial key to activate the build, then you can download the developer.ipa to test it on your iPad, remember that your Mobile provisioning file should have your iPad’s UDID added to make it work on your iPad. You can only use the serial key one, you would not be able to reset or make changes after you have used the key, thus for basic testing, use Adobe content viewer and use the serial key only on finalized content.
With Single Edition, you do not pay download fees. Download fees apply only to multi-issue apps created by Pro and Enterprise customers. Since the content is embedded inside the App, and Adobe does not host your folio or content. DPS Single Edition is 395$. That all you need to pay. You can also purchase CCM subscription in which you can build unlimited single issue apps.

  • Single Edition - Social Sharing

Can you post articles from a single edition as images on Pinterest?

No, the Social Sharing feature is for Professional/Enterprise apps, not Single Edition.
