Converting AOL ID to new Apple ID
I understand I need to convert my AOL ID. During the process it asks me for email address, which becomes my Apple ID. I only have one email address... which already has an Apple ID associated with it. So I am now stuck. If I can't use my aol email address, and there is no way to 'merge' purchases made in the past with my AOL ID to my current Apple ID, what happens to the music from my AOL ID account? I still listen to it all the time.
I created a free email account with gmail. Went through the process of converting my AOL ID to the new gmail email account and saved a password. This was a couple of days ago. Now when I try to log into iTunes Account using the gmail address and new password, the response is: If you have an Apple ID, sing in with it here. If I try it using my old AOL ID, the response is: an Apple ID for [email protected] has already been created. Next I went through the screens of 'forgot password'. Answered the security questions and got to where I could put in a new password. I put in the password I thought it should be, and sure enough, it tells me "can not be used with in the last year". The password was assigned 2 days ago, is acknowledge in their system in this process, yet it does not allow me to sign in using it. Frustrating!

Apple can't provide support for AOL Username accounts that aren't converted by March 31, 2015. The conversion process applies only to AOL Usernames. You don't need to convert an Apple ID that ends in @aol.com. Also, this transition doesn't affect any AOL services that you use with your AOL Username.

HT204268 Can't get past the credit card screen when converting AOL username to Apple ID
After adding my credit card info when converting my AOL username to an Apple ID, I get the following pop up message: "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later." I have tried for two days now. I have changed the credit card, changed the new apple ID, and my personal information, all resulting in the same error message.
Anyone have any suggestions? I am using iTunes 12.1.0.50Sure thing. Here are my steps:
1) Login with AOL screen name into iTunes.
2) Pop up appears with the message "You need to change your account to use an Apple ID...". I select "Update Account".
4) "Change to Use an Apple ID" screen appears. I select "Continue".
5) "Edit Apple ID Details" screen appears. I then enter my email and password for a NEW Apple ID. (Note: If I enter in an email of an existing Apple ID, I get an error and cannot pass the screen. If I enter in a truly new email for a new Apple ID, the error disappears). Once info is in, I select "Continue".
6) "Review Your Address" screen appears. I can also update credit card information here. The Security Code is missing by default, so I must enter it in. If I enter in a wrong Security Code, I get an error to "Please enter valid Security Code". Once I enter in the correct info, I select "Continue".
7) Pop up appears with the message "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later."
I have gone through this process a number of times, trying to change things slightly in various screens to see if I get a different result. It appears I simply cannot get past the "Review Your Address" screen. -

PaulThere isn't a way to transfer your existing AOL emails to your iCloud email account without opening each one and emailing them to your iCloud email address. However, you can stop accumulating addiional email in your AOL account by going to your email preferences for your account on the AOL website and set up your account to forward all incoming email to your iCloud account. (I assume AOL allows you to set up email forwarding as it is a fairly standard feature with most email providers.)

I know how you feel, but I swear (and I just got this fixed NOW after months of frustration) - you have to "attempt" to purchase iTunes Match on iTunes with your AOL screenname ID, and then that will give you the option to change it to the current Apple ID format (with the @email.com) - it worked for me and I'm so grateful! You have no idea how long I was trying to get this to work.

It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum. Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter. TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices). It does not show Mail or Safari menus. System preferences' display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution. I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access. Is there any way to make this work for us? We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web. Do we need Apple TV to do this? Or is it not possible with our old iMac? My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.

There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time, you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV. -
My husband and I use the same apple Id. We would like to each have our own apple id, but we do not want to lose all our information associated with the current id. One of us will keep the original. If one us creates a new apple id how will that affect the iPhone and iTunes?
That would be my suggestion. Just keep using the common one for purchases in the stores. Then each get another AppleID using a free gmail, AOL, hotmail, MS Live or whatever email account.
Delete your current iCloud account and login with the new AppleID, and logout of Messaging and then backin with the new AppleID. Now you have a shared iTunes/App store account, but completely separate, independent iCloud and iMessage accounts.

Can you put your own videos on the new Apple TV?
It's worth clarifying that not everything that plays in iTunes automatically plays on AppleTV.
Video files in particular have to be in an AppleTV compatible format which for most purposes will mean h264 encoding.
I suggest the OP checks the specs here under video formats:

You can often right click on an incompatible file in iTunes and get it to convert it to h264 format but the process can be time consuming.

Videos playback differently on New Apple TV vs. Old Apple TV
I bought the new model of the Apple TV this weekend. I have had the older model for some time and over the years I've converted some of my home DVDs to playback. Works great. When I go to play these same videos on the new Apple TV, they are no longer widescreen.
It seems the new Apple TV uses a different way of determining pixel aspect/display size than the old one did. Any clues what the setting is that will work on both models? It seems to be the difference between Quicktime 7 (old Apple TV) and Quicktime X (New Apple TV).
This is not a setting on my TV, but the way the Apple TVs interpret the footage.The only reason you would need the mini verses the atv is if you want to buy verses renting or you have your own content that you want to watch (ie, ripping your own dvd's or blu-ray discs). Oh, right now Hulu plus is not available on the atv, so if you use it a lot, you are stuck with the mini.

2003 eMac and 23inches new Apple display compatible?

which only seems to have a VGA oulet,
Does anyone know of an adaptor that could do the trick?

FrancisThere are VGA to DVI converters, but they run about $300.00 US (you can find one such here). And your eMac doesn't support extended desktop, only mirroring, so unless you install a firmware hack (which you use strictly at your own risk), you would get the same picture at the same resolution as on your eMac's screen. Even with the hack, I'm not sure if the eMac would support the 23" LCD's resolution.
So it's up to you whether or not it's worth it. You could probably sell your eMac and combine that with the cost of the converter and buy a new Mac mini which would support that monitor directly. -

I encountered this problem yesterday, when I tried to play some songs in my ITunes library on a new computer; this is an ITunes library that I had moved from my old computer.
I called Apple Support, and the excellent Tech person began looking into the problem.
Meanwhile, while I was waiting for him, I Googled the problem (which I should have done first): lots and lots of people (I discovered) have bumped into this same frustrating problem.
Yes: the problem arises when you move to a new computer with an ITunes library that includes songs you bought, way back when, using an AOL ID.
Apple Support contacted ITunes. And ITunes tracked down my AOL account, and then issued me (that is, me and Apple Support) a new Apple ID. There are two or three additional steps; they are not hard, but you need the combo of help from Apple Support and ITunes. The key thing is getting the new Apple ID, which you must have, and which, once it has done its work, you then can ignore..
I can now listen to everything--and I am signed in to ITunes using my current, usual Apple ID.
Note: All of this would be easier and simpler for us if we could actually speak to someone at ITunes; the only way we can get to a "live" person there is by contacting someone at Apple Support. -
Im having a problem with the dvd quality, I'm using compressor to convert the video fils from apple prores to mpeg2 .It doesn't matter how long my video is even if its just 5 minutes I'm getting cut edges/lines in the video specialy if i have titles it comes up really bad , I took the same video to a friend of mine who have PC and he uses Encore , did the encoding there and it was just fine no problems! BTW I tried using doferent setings in compressor from CBR and VBR I even pushed up the setings to 8 or 9 BR and still no luck !

For now, I'll assume you're shooting 1080i.
Take a representaive clip into a new sequence. Add a title.
In your sequence, make sure field dominance is set to Upper.
Set render settings to Pro Res 422.
After rendering, export QT self contained.
Import into Compressor (I'm now referring to v3.5).
Select the 90 minute Best quality DVD preset.
Open frame controls and turn on (click the gear icon). Set Resize filter to Best.
Submit burn and check quality on TV.
