Converting .asf and .wmv to .mpeg?

Anyone know a good program to convert .asf and .wmv files to mpeg files?
Thanx

I converted it on an other machine to mpg (windows XP) and then put it into a menu of IDVD. When i do a preview everything works OK, but when i burn the dvd there is no sound anymore.

  • Could someone please recommend the best program to convert AVI and MPEG files for use (and exporting) into IMovie 11?

Hi - I understand I need to convert AVI and MPEG files for use within IMovie 11. I have one particular file that has a watermark stating "Created with Flip4Mac WMV Demo". Can someone please recommend the best program for a novice?  Thanks!

    Hi Susan,
It is no simpler converting vobs to mp4 than mpg (mpeg2).
There is *always* a loss of quality converting video from one lossy-compressed format to another, e.g. mpeg2 to mp4.
So, if you want to not lose any quality, then converting vobs to mpeg2 (mpg) is the thing to do (since there will be no video/audio re-compression), assuming Lr5 will accept them (sorry, but I do not know). example commands:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
If Lr5 won't accept them, then you can convert to mp4 with minimal quality loss using a command like:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
You may need variations of these commands depending on encoding of vob.
Note: -i means -input-file; -sameq means -same-quality, as much as possible.
ffm... is smart enough to avoid re-encoding, if possible, when -sameq is used, and makes reasonable choices for audio/video codecs based on extension of output file.
Of course, you'll need to download/install ffm... program if not already on your machine, and execute commands in a terminal or command window.
Do keep us posted please .
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Converter pictures and videos files to jpg and mpeg

Do you know a safety software o freeware to convert pictures and videos files to jpg and mpeg? to use in my desktop with windows?

A backup stores the data in the location shown in the following link: Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
Note, however that backup files are stored in a format that is meant for use only in restoring to an iOS device. They are not a way for you to view the photos on the computer.
If you want to save the photos to the computer and be able to view them there, the following has instructions: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC
You can also use PhotoStream My Photo Stream FAQ or 3rd party apps such as http://www.photosync-app.com

  • Converting into AVI, Mpeg2, and WMV

What's the best way to convert files into AVI, Mpeg2 and WMV from Final Cut Pro? Should I convert into .mov then convert into those from another program? As far as I know, Final Cut only does Mpeg2. I would like to get the best quality.

Concerning AVI, it depends on what codec you want within the AVI container. How will the AVI be used? Is it going to be further compressed on a Windows system, or used in Premiere on a Wiindows computer, or perhaps played from within PowerPoint?
Really, the only good reason to make an AVI any more is to provide compatibility with certain software on the Windows platform that still requires it. Otherwise, Windows Media or Quicktime provide better solutions.

  • Using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects - 6/23/14

Very disappointed with this choice. I will definitely be seeking to uninstall this version and go back a version or two. Two many extra steps to export an mp4 now. And now we also have to wait longer for a mp4 to render and can't take advantage of the machine's hardware? You guys fighting mp4 as a standard, forcing us to an additional product, or what? I'll be sharing my extreme disappoint with this 'upgrade' with the rest of the developers at work and who just had it installed. I'm not seeing this being too popular opn social media either. Seems like you only did what was best for you. Thanks for showing us who's boss.

Not necessarily. You can render an intermediate codec with AE's render queue (thus using all of AE's power to render) and then drop that file into the Adobe Media Encoder.
This was the workflow I've always used - even when AE could encode with MP4. Why? Well, because AE sucked at MP4 encoding. You couldn't even do multipass endoding with it!
This is a useful workflow in a few ways:
    1. You have an archive-quality file to come back to in the future.
    2. You can use AE's full power to render.
    3. You can use AME's superior encoding capabilities.
    4. You can tweak your compression settings and try various encoding parameters to improve the quality while decreasing the bitrate of your product WITHOUT having to re-render the AE comp every time you try since you're working off of the intermediate file. I mean, imagine a comp with several 3d layers, depth of field, shadows from multiple lights, and 250,000 particles from Particular. What if you made an MP4 and then the client needed a smaller file size or the MP4 you made was too heavily compressed and you needed higher quality? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather only render that 18-hour monster once.
This workflow actually saves time for many people.
And, in any workflow, this produces a better product.
Again, this is what I did even when AE could encode MP4's.
    Frank VA wrote:
You guys fighting mp4 as a standard, forcing us to an additional product, or what?
They aren't fighting MP4 as a standard, in fact, when Adobe folks pop in here and answer questions, that's often their recommendation for delivery codec.
    Frank VA wrote:

Listen, I understand your frustration. Knocking out a quick compressed file from AE for client review is handy.
However, maintaining the h.264 encoding in AE took up development time. There are only so many person-hours per week for the (relatively tiny) AE team to spend on building each version of AE.
I never liked AE's h.264 encoding - AME has always done a superior job. Since we have AME to do our encoding, I would rather the AE team focus their effort on improving AE as a compositing and motion graphics tool rather than as an encoding tool.
Again, I get the frustration. I can see where it feels like they are doing what's good for them and not us, but I think, in the long run, this way is better for us. Right now, the majority of the AE team is working on making AE faster to work with and faster to render. The sooner we get a relatively bug-free version of that, the better! (Especially for folks on Mac OSX Yosemite who can't RAM preview smoothly in any version of AE).
And at least the After Effects team has been very transparent about things - for example, this blog post talks about their reasoning: using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects

  • How to convert video and dvd for iPod

    1. Download, install and run PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter. It can convert from DVD, Tivo, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, RealMedia and many more to iPod Video.
(PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter Download)
    2. Click "Open ..." button and choose a video file or DVD disc to open. Wait for the movie to start playing in the preview window.
    3. Based on the aspect ration of the video source PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter will choose the best resolution for the output iPod video. Nevertheless you can select a resolution of your choice to stretch/squash the picture. Alternatively, you can choose a Crop Mode to cut unimportant parts of the video (like top/bottom black bars or subtitles).
You can also adjust the desired quality to reduce the output size of the movie.
In the preview window you will see what the resulting movie will look like.
When you have set the desired settings simple click on the "Record it" button to convert the video/DVD.
Depending on the settings a 60 minutes video is converted on average for 15 minutes.
    4. When the process finishes you can test the recorded video file on your PC using QuickTime to see if it works well.
Then launch iTunes, add the recorded file into the library and update iPod (under iTunes' File menu). And have a nice time!
    Additional Settings
    1. Video Settings
    Video Frame Rate
Known as Frame Per Second (FPS). It refers to the number of pictures displayed in 1 second in order to form continuous motions. The default frame rate is 15 fps. You may choose 24fps to get more continuos motions.
When selecting higher fps, increase the movie quality and size a little. This is because more frames need some amount of additional motion data to be stored.
    Brightness Level
Increase the level to make video appear brighter on your iPod screen. The default is level 0 (No brightness change from the original video).
    2. Audio Options
    Audio Quality
There are 6 audio quality modes to choose: 32kbps Mono, 48kbps Mono, 48Kbps Stereo, 64Kbps Stereo, 96Kbps Stereo, 128Kbps Stereo.
Audio Bitrate (in Kbits per second)
Audio bitrate refers to how many data storage is allocated to store audio signals. The higher audio
    bitrate, the better audio quality.
    Audio Volume
You can change output audio volume in "Output Settings" dialog. The default volume level is 5 (original volume).
    Stereo to Mono
When the output audio is set to Mono, you can choose which stereo channel (of input source) to be copied into the Mono channel (output). It is useful for some video sources (e.g. VCD) which use the left, right channels for different languages or for karaoke.
    3. DVD subtitle(subpicture), language
It is recommended to use the native DVD menu in the preview panel to set subtitle(subpicture) and language. (Click "DVD menu" button on the right to show native DVD menu in the preview panel) You may also change the subtitle(subpicture), language in the program's Options menu, but there are some DVDs that require the change must be made in the native DVD menu instead of the program's menu.

  • Convert DVD and other video files for playback on  iPhone, iPod, PSP, etc.

So, how are your holidays going? Or, if you're reading this on the weekend, how'd they go? Watching various sorts of DVD movies and videos is a better idea for a pastime during your free time. To make your holiday be more colorful with movies, I prefer to recommend an application to help you guys deal with different kinds of video resources, no matter the DVD files or footages shot by camcorders, or videos in formats of FLV, AVI, MKV, etc., in a word, the converted videos will be supported by whatever portable devices you have, including PSP, iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPhone (3G), iPhone, Zune, Zune 2, Blackberry, Nokia, Creative Zen, Sony Walkman, iRiver PMP, Archos, PS3, Apple TV, Xbox, iPAQ, Pocket PC, Mobile Phone, etc. The software is Pavtube Video DVD Converter Ultimate, which combines DVD ripper and Video Converter together, and enables you to edit and convert any DVD, video, audio and image files to other popular formats including MP4, 3GP, FLV, MPEG-4, AVI, MPG, MOV, 3G2, VOB, FLAC, MKA, OGG, WAV, AC3, M4A with super fast conversion speed and excellent image and sound quality.
The detailed user guide will be shown in the following part:
Step 1: Add video and DVD file
You are allowed to add videos to this program via clicking "Add Video", and add DVD files to it via clicking "Load DVD". DVD files can be loaded in three ways: "Load DVD ROM", "Load DVD Folder", and "Load ISO/IFO".
Step 2: Select output format and set destination folder
Videos and DVD files can be added to this program at the same time, after that, you can click the drop-down list of "Format" to select an output format for your portable devices. The format profile provides you with formats for iPod, iPhone, PSP, PS3, BlackBerry, etc. Meanwhile, you can click the folder icon at the end of "Output" to decide where to save the output files. Moreover, if you want to combine multiple files to be a single file, you can tick "Merge into one file".
    Step 3: Set advanced settings
If you have the needs of adjusting video and audio parameters to make good control of the output file quality and size, you can click "Settings" button to do it, and all the options like codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, audio channel, etc. are changeable on the following window.
    Step 4: Start conversion
As soon as the above steps are finished, you can click "Convert" button to start conversion, the following ripping window will show you clearly about all the conversion info. After finished, you are able to find out the output files via clicking "Open" button.

We're not supposed to talk about DVD conversion according to the terms of service ...
So I'll assume these VOB files are from your HOME MOVIE DVDs you burned yourself and suggest the Videora iPod Classic Video Converter.
    http://www.videora.com/
It's a really nice program that converts not only your HOME MOVIE DVD VOB files, but AVI, MPEG, and others. You can set the CPU usage from high to low with five settings, it has a queue which you can add multiple files to, and it will minimize to the taskbar for compact convenience. There are other Windows programs that do much the same, but I prefer Videora. Oh ... and it's freeware!!

Unfortunately discussing this subject is not permitted on Apple's forums as the recently updated Apple Discussions User Agreement now clearly states.
Under item 2, para 8.2 it says "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store."

  • Converting videos and ripping Dvds and then converting them?

I have no clue how to get any videos or dvds that I own onto my iPod and Ive searched for software everywhere and have no been able to locate anything that is helping my problem. I have a Mac iBook G4 and I know people with Windows machines that could do this better than I. Please if someone could let me know how to proceed in getting my videos on my iPod I would be extremely grateful. Thank you.

  • My itunes isnt burning discs. some of the songs are AAC audio and others are MPEG??

my itunes isnt buring discs. some of the songs say they are AAC audio and others say MPEG audio. i dont know if that has anything to do with why its not burning but i dont know what else could be wrong

If you're burning an audio CD, it shouldn't matter. If you want to burn an MP3 CD, then all the tracks must be in MP3 format. iTunes will not convert them on the fly.
    Regards.

  • Qmaster compressor and wmv

    Hello,
I have constructed a qmaster cluster with two 8 core mac pros.
The cluster was manually configured using Qadministrator. One Mac Pro is the cluster controller with services and one is just services for the node.
When I submit batches to the cluster using the mpeg 2 preset in compressor, the cluster uses all 16 processors and it goes really fast. When I submit using a custom preset that exports to WMV using the regular Flip4Mac (not episode) it compressor only uses the processors on the cluster controller. My rendering time has to be as short as possible and I don't understand why a cluster which appears to be properly configured given that Mpeg takes advantage of all 16 won't export wmv the same way.
I have read that the codec matters in how the jobs are sent to the cluster.
Also in settings MPeg can "create job segments" and wmv does not let you check that box.
    thanks
    ben

This sounds like a good question for Craig at the Flip4Mac forum

  • How do you play MPG and WMV files on a MAC?

I am no longer able to play MPG and WMV files on my MAC. I have Flip4MAC, which is I think what I used to use to play them (but not sure). All I know is that I used to be able to before but now they won't play. Do I need some sort of different software or has Microsoft started making these files in a way that won't allow MAC users to play them? If anyone is kind enough to help, please explain in the most basic terms as I'm not that computer literate.

If the .mpg/.mpeg files are non-rights-protected you should be able to play them in Quicktime or iTunes. If the wmv files are non-rights-protected you should be able to use Flip4Mac. If the mpg/mpeg or wmv files are rights-protected you'll need the software or subscription that allows you to view copyrighted files.

  • Trouble converting MOV to WMV

I have QT Pro 7.5 running on a new Mac. Have to convert a very large MOV file to WMV. Used the export selection and changed settings to WMV. File converted but only about a minute's worth of a 40 minute presentation. Tried several times and still only converts a minute. Went thru all the settings and looked nothing would seem to indicate only a 1 minute conversion. Would certainly appreciate the help as the project is waiting to be converted, burned and shipped out. My thanks, Ed.

I guess this might be a bit late for you but it may help others. I found a web site that allows you to upload videos for conversion to just about any format for NOTHING. Thats right... No Cost, No software downloads, updates etc. They do Sound File conversion too.
Go to http://media-convert.com/ or Google 'media convert' and select your file then the format you wish to convert it to, then upload to this web site. The site then emails you when the conversion is complete and ready for downloading. It stays on the web server for 24 hours. There is a 150MB limit on the file size.
There is a Youtube video that explains the process in detail.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20oWaFad9_0
I converted a MOV file to a WMV without needing to spend $150 bucks on Flip4Mac.
    Good luck. Adrian
