Converting Audio From 24 fps  to 29.97

Hello All,
Background:
Transferred 16mm mag tracks (24 fps) to avi format.
Transferred a 3/4" video tape with image and audio which I believe is 29.97 fps.
Using Audition I Mixed the 16mm tracks at 48000 Hz.
Extracted the 29.97 fps sound track from the 3/4" tape transfer.
This is from the 1980's, so no time clock, no time code
It's an hour film, but I can easily separate the sound track for 30 minutes each
Both sound tracks are the same, however when I try syncing they drift obviously.
I need to swap out the sound track that is on the 3/4 inch transfer and insert the 16mm mag track mix, so the final result would be the image is from the 3/4" and the sound is from the 16mm mag track mix
Is there any way I can adjust my audio to get these two to match
Thanks

It might be worth an attempt at the sync/stretch method Richard Knight suggests but I wouldn't be too hopeful.  My memories of 16mm mag players is that the multiple machines would be synced to each other (and a projector/viewer of some kind) but, other than their own little world, the speed could drift horribly--and not consistently.
Bob - I'm rather new to premiere and audition and I've been working with the different tracks to see if I could possibly find sync points and yes there are, but the sync/stretch method is a challenge but quite possible a solution. I think it can be done with alot of grunt work and watching tutorials from both adobe and lynda.com. Plural Eyes would make it so easy but the question is how to make the U-matic the master and the 16mm to conform.
However, as implied before, the 24/29.97 issue probably doesn't have any significance at this stage.  They refer to how the film is projected/video is scanned (don't get me started on telecine projectors with five bladed shutters!) but whatever the scan rate the audio SOUNDS the same speed.  It's sort of like taking a reel to reel tape at 15ips and dubbing it to 7.5ips.  Even though the absolute speed has changed, the length of the playback stays the same.  I strongly suspect this is all just a matter of old 16mm and U-matic stuff not being locked to anything in particular and drifting like mad in terms of speed.
Bob I believe you're correct, and oh what times these are for analog lost in the future  - a brave new world. It will be done.... somehow ;-)
Thanks again all - This will go either very fast or very slow

  • Convert audio from mono to stereo

I have imported video and audio from a camera with microphone, and the audio is only playing out of the left speaker. This is despite the fact that both A1 and A2 channels in the timeline appear to have audio. I'm new to this, and any help to get the audio to come out of both speakers would be great!

Oh, wait a minute, I thought you meant you only had one audio track, and wanted its sound to come out both speakers. But now that I read your question again, you say that you have an A1 and A2. In that case, I dunno why you should have one dead audio track, unless you've accidentally turned it off, muted it, over on the left, at the head of the track. Or, if the tracks are not linked, maybe you've accidentally pulled its volume line down to the bottom (that red line running down each audio track that determines the volume level).
If not, somebody else will have to solve that for you. Sorry.

  • Converting footage from 25 fps to 24fps

    Hi
I've got a shoot coming up where we will be using a canon 7D at 24fps and a Sony Z5 at 25fps. I want the finished output to be at 24fps so was considering converting the footage from the Z5 to match the 7D.
Firstly, is this advisable? are the results going to be any good?
Secondly, what's the best way to do it. I was thinking about converting in Cinema Tools, is that the best way?
I always use the 7D and love the 24fps but cost restrictions mean the Z5 has to be used for B roll, normally I would rent a second 7D.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Adrian

Capture the Z5 footage as ProRes...or convert after. Then use the Cinema Tool CONFORM option to conform from 25 to 24fps. Slight speed change, but not that noticable. That is the BEST way to do it.

  • Converting Audio track from video

My niece has been singing in a choir for the last few years and my brother will post her performances/solos on youtube.com for the rest of the family to see. It has been a great way for us all stay together. I recently saw where you can download videos from youtube into itunes as movies, which I have done on a couple of his posts. What I wanted to know, is if there is a way for me to convert those video files (I think they are mpeg-4) into regular audio or songs? I would like to do this for two reasons, first, I thought it would be a nice way to allow my brother to put some of his daughters songs on his iPod (when I try this on my iPhone the videos are placed in the music folder and they don't mix with my other music), and second I was going to make a CD for our father who doesn't have an iPod.
Does anyone know if there is a way capture the audio from a video file?
    Thanks.

    Josh,
Good to know. Thanks. Sometimes I get confused on what works in which version. Glad that I do not have to deal with Avid and FCP in the course of the day. I still try to do things in AE, that I do int PrPro, and still get lost with the little differences in the GUI.

PS glad that 4.1 is looking good for you! Hope the joy continues.

Probably the easiest way to do this is to download a free media convertor. Most will be able to convert video into audio files.

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

    Hi,
I have a music concert video on DVD. I would like to record a song off the video so that I can learn to play the guitar part. Is there any software out there that will separate the audio from the video, or in other words, capture the audio and maybe convert it to mp3 format so that I can play it in iTunes without playing the video?

  • Can I  rip the audio from a video file?

I have a video file with a band singing on it. I have an ipod nano, so I can't import the video with the singing onto my ipod. Is there anyway to rip the audio from the video file and put that onto my ipod?
    -Thanks

Open the video in Quicktime Player.
    Select the Export menu item.
Change the Export type to "Sound to Wave".
Save the WAV file somewhere with the default settings.
Load the WAV file into iTunes and use iTunes to convert it to AAC for the Nano.

  • Audio from Final Cut Pro very very low

Hi guys I have not have a problem for awhile. A friend of mine recently move from DPS Velocity system to Final Cut Pro Studio 2 using a Intel Pro 3.2GHZ with all the bell and whistle, so I am giving him some training and tutorial. They have some footage in Velocity which I use MPEG StreamClip to convert to a DV file, I brought it in FCP (Three File one video and two audio makes one clip) it play in FCP Played ok when I export it to DVD studio Pro the audio is extremely low (barely audio able)I open the clip in QuickTime and it did not play. There is other clip in the project, some capture in FCP and others imports in FCP Studio, DVD Studio Pro and QuickTime plays these audio ok. The audio from Velocity are Wave files, I taught anyfile that plays in FCP would play in QuickTime. Does anyone knows how to solve this problem please to help I would like my friend to change both system to Apple and FCP thanks.

    Wellcome to the forums!
when I export it to DVD studio Pro the audio is extremely low (barely audio able)I open the clip in QuickTime and it did not play.
I guess you encoded it to Dolby AC3 with Compressor, did you? Then you must chamge the standard Dolby preset as follows to keep the original FCP mix and level:
    - Dialog normalization: -31
    - Compression preset: none
And QT cannot play AC3 files.
    Hope that helps !

  • Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.
    Thanks!
    A

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

  • Capturing Audio from DAT

    Hello,
I'm trying to capture audio from a DAT deck (Tascam DA-20) into FCP HD by routing it through my JVC BR-DV600U DV deck (RCA output from DAT, RCA input to DV deck, Firewire into FCP).
The DV deck's input is set to line-in, and the audio is being routed through (audio meters on DV deck mimic those on DAT deck, and I can hear the audio through the headphones jacked into my DV deck).
However, when I try to capture the audio on FCP, I am unsuccessful, prompting the following window from FCP: "Error: Final Cut Pro HD was unable to read the movie file just captured."
Now, I use the same set up I described above to capture footage from my Beta deck into FCP with no problems (route Beta signal through DV deck and firewire it into FCP). This leads me to believe that perhaps the glitch lies within my Capture Presets.
At first, I tried to capture the signal as an Audio-Only DV NTSC 48 Khz/Non-controllable device. After that failed, I tried to create my own capture preset, but am not sure it will make a difference, as the only input choices I am given are DV Audio, Built-In Audio, and None.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Why not capture the audio content outside of FCP, check the sample rate for 48Khz/16-bit, convert if necessary, save as an AIFF file, and then import that resulting sound file into FCP?
Any good audio app, including STP will do captures.
You are probably going to need to do some cleanup on the audio anyway before you use it, so why not just use an audio app to do it beforehand?
Besides, if you have an audio device (PCI card or Firewire device) in your Mac, you can use the S/PDIF port for your connection to the DAT and do a digital transfer when you import.
As I understand the way you are doing it now, you are taking digital content from the DAT, converting it to analog for the connection into your deck, and then re-converting it into digital when you capture it back into FCP.
One big advantage of digital audio (and video) is to avoid generation loss and added noise during transfer if you go D-to-D.
If you don't have an audio card or Firewire A/D audio I/O device with S/PDIF ports in your Mac, then see if you can find a friend who has one and can do the transfer for you. Then he can give you the file on a CD-ROM.
    That's what I'd do.
