Converting audio using QT 10

Hi
How do I convert audio files in QT 10. It was possible in older versions using the export command but that function has gone in this version. Im trying to convert a WAV to AIFF.
Many Thanks
Adrian

Quicktime X can't do this.... You need to install Quicktime 7 from your Leopard installation disk, here's how:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
And then you need to buy (if you don't already have) the Pro key from Apple's online store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D3380Z/A?fnode=NDQ4OTY4OA&mco=MTM3NDgwNTg
You can convert the audio file from a WAV to AIFF in iTunes for free.

  • How-To: Convert audio files to the desired Cisco format (SoX example)

    Greetings,
This week I spent a few hours on converting PCM encoded wave files to CCITT ulaw encoded wave files. You know, the format we all use for UCCX, IP IVR and the like.
I have been searching the interwebs and came across a few suggestions, amongst others:
    o Adobe Audition
    o Audacity
I installed Audition Cs5.5 on my Mac, but it wouldn't let me export CCITT ulaw files.
I also installed Audacity, which would let me export files in the right format, but doesn't support batch conversion of audio files. When you're moving from one voice application to another, this is a huge drawback. For occasional conversion, I would recommend this (graphical) tool.
The solution I have used is the open source software SoX (Sound eXchange) which can be found here: http://sox.sourceforge.net/
It is a cross-platform (Win, Linux, Mac) command line utility that can be use to convert audio files, concatenate them and what not. I just this in conjunction with a perl script I made.
The script is attached, in the hope someone else benefits from it. Should work out of the box on Mac and Linux machines. The script will traverse the $dirname directory (not recursively) and convert what it finds to 8bit, 8kHz, mono, CCITT ulaw format.
By the way, to concatenate files just simply type:
    sox half1.wav half2.wav full.wav
This will concatenate half1.wav and half2.wav and name the resulting file full.wav.
    HTH
P.s: Disclaimer: You might need to edit the script. There is no implied fitness for a particular purpose, YMMV and I shall not be liable for messed up audio files or what not.
    Edit: url added.

    Hi,
welcome to the beautiful world of open source :-) By the way, I have not seen anybody programming in Perl for a long time.
Just one comment: G.711 uLaw is just the half of the story. Remember, UCCX supports either G.711 uLaw or G.729 as well. And since G.729 has license restrictions (costs $10000 per year if I remember that correctly), no free software can incorporate it to its "convert to" list (apart from reading it, which is fine).
A piece of advice: CUCM has got that voice translator service running, which does the job as well. All you have to do is to upload your files, and you'll get at least four formats ready and available, including G.729 - and it can be downloaded easily using TFTP later and used in UCCX.

  • I just recorded audio using QuickTime, but now I can't use it in iMovie.

I used QuickTime 10.0 to record audio, but now I have no way of using this audio in iMovie. I added it to my iTunes library, but I can't drag it into my project to use as a regular audio file. I can't even convert it to some audio format since QuickTime 10 doesn't have that feature.
Help! I was hoping to create a screen recording demo via QuickTime and overlay it with audio using speech I recorded using QuickTime as well, but now I see I can't. Is there any way to use audio recorded with QuickTime other than just listening to it?!? Seems like a feature that isn't done yet.

The thing is that there is no unlocked phone in the US that is available for purchase.  The T-Mobile phone is contract/sim free and not unlocked and for the unlocked phone you have to wait for at least a couple of months after release before the unlocked phone is available.
That is why you cannot use the phone in the UK because it was never unlocked in the first place if you activated it with T-Mobile.  Sim/Contract free and unlocked do not mean the same thing.  You will have to wait at least 2 months now before T-Mobile will consider unlocking your phone and then you won't be able to get 4G in the UK and you have no UK warranty, only US where you purchased the phone.
Why not buy a new phone in the UK that is unlocked and sell the US one?

  • Convert audio timecode to actual clip timecode in Premiere Pro?

    Hi all,
is there a way of converting an audio recording of a SMPTE-timecode recorded via the camera's line in (TC generated by an ambient tinylockit) into a timecode track or, ideally, replace the video's timecode with the converted audio timecode?
I'm hoping to synchronise footage from two cameras with one external audio via external tc's on both cameras' audios in this way as none of my cameras nor the audio/video recorder I use have SMPTE ins/outs. Cams are Blackmagic Production Camera and Pocket Cinema Camera, external recorder (linked to BMPC) is Sound Devices pix220i.
Blackmagic support site claims there is a way to "translate" (You can then use DaVinci Resolve (9.0.3 and above), Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere CC to translate the audio timecode data into an additional timecode track, which can be used for syncing purposes. - see Blackmagic Forum • View topic - Frequently Asked Questions - Audio (Updated: 27/Nov/14)), but I could not find anything in the Adobe manual or forums.
    Many thanks,
    Deniz

    Quinn,
Did you ever get this resolved?  There's a new version of Premiere Clip out there - so you're probably set now.
Have you tried it again since?
I'm looking for Clip to Pr inspirations if you ever want to share.
I'm also trying to figure out how to put together a portfolio to share too.

  • Best (legal) way to record/convert audio

    hi,
i'm developing an application that i hope to offer
    commercially.
i'm interested in finding the best (and least expensive)
*legal* method for recording audio using flash media server 3
(whatever version) and then converting it to WAV (e.g., 8kHz, 8-bit
    mulaw) or a similar format.
i have found a program called ffmpeg, which works very
nicely. however, i can not find info on whether this is a legal
method for decoding audio in a .flv file for use in a commercial
application. (i plan to manipulate the audio on the server side,
then stream the result back in mp3 format or something similar.)
are there features in the latest flash clients that i can
take advantage of in order to eliminate (or reduce) any license
fees? (i can force clients to upgrade their flash clients if
necessary.) if not, what company do i have to deal with for
licensing, and what's the best approach?
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Recorded audio stream is encoded by Nellymoser proprietary
    codec. The
only legal way to decode it is to buy Nellymoser ASAO SDK.
    It's worth
of doing if your estimated income from this project will be
    around $1M
    or so :)

See above. And FFMPEG has appropriate disclaimer at its
    homepage. It's
very dificult to miss it out...

  • Q: Convert audio bit & sample rate during import

I have a project that's in 24bit/48KHz, and want to import an audio file (mp3) that's in 16bit/44.1KHz.
When I import the mp3 file into the project either through drag & drop or the Add Audio File dialog box, it doesn't convert the file into the project's native bit & sample rate. Consequently, when I play it back in the Arrange window it plays in chipmunk voice.
I thought Logic used to automatically convert audio files into native resolution. How do I do this in Logic 8?
    Thanks,
    Steven

Thanks for the response. My project currently does have those options checked, and it's still not converting.
To double check, the mp3 file does get copied to the project's Audio Files directory. It also creates a file with the same name and the file extension .ovw - but doesn't seem to be converted.
    Any ideas? Thanks again -

  • How to convert audio only avi to wav?

How to convert audio only avi to wav?
Can I extract only the audio from an avi and insert in to a wav file?
    Regards,
    Achi

    Sure.
You just need to program a Processor to turn off any video tracks, transcode to a WAV-acceptable audio encoding, and then use a DataSink to store the output of the processor as a WAV file.
Also, I bet the following sample program will do it without any modification...

  • Converting Audio files to Midi files.... anyway to do it?

I used to have Opcode Studio Vision Pro and there was an option to convert audio files, like a drum solo or just music, to a midi file so you could take a audio drum pattern and turn it into a midi file and pick your own drum sounds like a TR-909 for the drum pattern.
Is there any function like this in Logic, or perhaps a plug in that will do that? I searched the forum without any luck.
    Thanks

I haven't seen anything like this, but...
For Guitar's mainly... if you plug your guitar into a good pedal which has a midi out set up, you can plug it into your mac and record by playing the guitar using midi... then you can edit it.. works same way as keyboards... I expect you can do the same with drums if you used digital, i'm not sure.
    hope this helps

  • Converting Audio to FCE

I am trying to import a song from iTunes to use in a project, knowing I need to render or convert audio. FCE 4.0 will let import older songs that I put in iTunes some weeks, months ago, but not three songs I've just loaded through a CD. Those newly loaded songs have properties of iTunes 8.0.2 and Quicktime 7.5.5. I wonder if there is something about new iTunes update I recently downloaded that is not allowing me to import them into FCE. Any help on how to get these into FCE would be greatly appreciated. (when I try to import, they show up as faint type and won't allow me to click on them.

All music bought through ITunes is DRM protected ( copy right ) and, cannot be used in FCE.
The music you installed into Itunes via CD is not DRM protected however, copy right laws still apply.
To use the non-DRM music from ITunes in FCE you'll need to convert it to an .aiff format

  • Does Anyone Or Does Everyone Except Me Know How To Convert Audio To MIDI?

Hello. I'm your new neighbor... I'll be good in the hood... I've been using Logic for 3 years. I have been mixing 14 Tracks of Audio ever since... Never again. No, never, ever, ever, ever again! Ever!
Two questions: Can Logic Pro 7 "Convert" Audio into MIDI? If not will you kindly impart knowledge to Grasshopper which "Software" is widely accepted as the best?
I'll check with Sound On Sound if no one has info here... Thanks.

Does it usually take a long time for Replys? I once asked a simple question in a Recording Studio Forum and waited 20 minutes and said: "This *****, I'm outta here" I returned a year later and found 50 messages saying how impatient I was and even a few kicks in my iAss.
I was a real newbie. More dollars than sense... Avalon, SPL, T.C. Elec... blah-blah. "I'll 'Master my own stuff!" So, I wanted to use the Hardware to "soften". Not a peep! Hello-o-o-o-o-o! All I had was pretty lights glowing.
When I learned the following day, it was only a 'Click' or two away. Usually is with Mac. I love my G5 for Music Production. I've tried 2 PowerBooks an 864(?) and a 1 GHz 17", neither could handle the load of 60 Tracks of Audio. G5, I have increased the Tracks to 78. We're talkin' smokin' trackin' Tracks.
I'll see if I have an answer to:
Does Anyone Or Does Everyone Except Me Know How To Convert Audio To MIDI?
If not I'll slip away quietly and wonder... Does anyone know? I'll return with how to or what to use tomorrow. Then we'll all know!

  • Outlook Sync Error SOLVED - Multi-day repeating appointment cannot be converted for use on the Handheld...

*UPDATE 1/23/2009 07:08 AM* This is a partial fix. I no longer think the Recurrence Range is the culprit. It seems the Time Zones features between Outlook & Palm are not cooperating. This explains why my 12 am events are syncing as 6 pm the day before; I live in GMT-6:00 so it's moving my events ahead by 6 hours. Another event I set for 1 pm in Outlook was changed to 7 am on my Treo. I am going to start over and recreate each event, this time setting the Time Zones, which I hadn't done before. I tested it out and it worked with a single event... let's see how long it lasts. I've also found that using 'No Time' on my Treo is not compatible with Outlook. It's better to set a time with 0 minutes duration.
*UPDATE 1/23/2009 04:11 AM* This is a partial fix. My monthly and yearly problematic recurring events are now showing up at 6 pm the day before on my Treo, though my Outlook calendar is fine. I think this has to do with the Recurrence Range Start/End in Outlook, which is set automatically. If only there were a way to change this...
After a WHOLE LOTTA trial-and-error (like 3 days worth), I think I finally solved my OLERR:14-001 issue!
Problem: Syncing Palm Treo 755p calendar with Outlook 2007
    Error Message (simplified):
HotSync session completed with messages on [date] [time]
HotSync session started on [date] [time], and completed in [0] seconds
Outlook Calendar synchronization completed with messages
    Duration: [0] seconds
    Outlook Calendar
The multi-day repeating appointment titled [event] beginning [date] [time] cannot be converted for use on the Handheld. Please divide the appointment up into single-days and re-synchronize.
     OLERR:14-0001
    - Desktop overwrite HH Sync
Note: You will likely have several of these ‘Multi-day’ instances in your hotsync log (I had 58). You may want to change Calendar in hotsync to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" after you get this error, to avoid erasing events while you are fixing this issue. Otherwise, you may have to restore them from a backup copy (if you have one) and start over. You can switch back once you’re through.
Solution: First, I tried this Palm KB Article: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/NUA/launchKB.asp?c=31167. After this didn’t work for me… I did trial-and-error. I believe the problem is that each recurring event, which you set up as ‘All-day’, must be changed to have a duration of 0 minutes from within Outlook. I was able to change some events directly, but I found that some of the records had corrupted, and would just revert. My fool-proof solution was to recreate EVERY problematic event (yes, one-by-one) using the following steps:
    Open Outlook
Go to your default calendar, where your events are synced
In the top menu choose ‘View’ > ‘Current View’ > ‘Recurring Appointments’
    Open a ‘New Appointment’
Enter subject and other options, such as Categorize, Importance, Time Zones, or Reminder
Make sure starting and ending date & time are the EXACT same
Select ‘Recurrence’ & choose your pattern
I did not choose ‘No end date’ (hence the Palm article), but rather ‘End by:’ and typed in 2031, then pressed tab to auto-generate a suitable end date. I chose 2031 because that is last year my Treo’s calendar goes to. Click OK
Repeat for every event in your error log, until you get a clean "Desktop overwrites Handheld" hotsync (Outlook should be closed when you sync)
Switch Calendar in hotsync back to "Synchronize"
Even though I still get the message OLERR14:001, my syncs are successful. Now I will give my Treo time to see if the issue returns later. Until then, happy Outlook syncing and good luck!

    hello,
if all of your data is on the phone you can change the sync action to handhled overwrites desktop
    how to:
    open palm desktop software
on the top left click on 'hotsync' and then 'custom'
    on the calendar conduit
highlight it and click on 'change'
    then choose 'handhled overwrites desktop'

  • Can an Oracle VM be converted for use in VMWare or VirtualBox?

Does anyone know how to convert / export an Oracle VM for use in VMware Server or in VirtualBox? I've successfully converted VMware images to OVM and VirtualBox images to OVM, but I've not been able to figure out how to get an Oracle VM to convert for use in VMWare or in VirtualBox.

The ovs-agent will recognize any strorage device on your VM server which:
    a) is unused and free of any partition, so basically a blank drive
    b) the drive must be recognized by the multipath daemon, so it must be present under /dev/mapper
So basically, you can't throw in a big drive, partition it, install OVM on it and hope to use the remaining space for your storage pool, you will need the system to recognize at least two independent drives - how ever you going to achieve that is up to you, but the most easy way is to have indeed at least two separate drives installed.

All of a sudden, I am having issues when I attempt to convert photos using the Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor option in Adobe Bridge.  I used this methodology in the past and the conversion to JPG or TIFFs would fly with no interruption.  Now I am getting now getting getting dialog boxes with "New Snapshot" in the title,  I click OK, then get a message, "The command "Feather" is not currently available," I click "continue, and gert a "New Layer" dialog box, I click OK, and  get a "Fill" dialog box, I click OK and the JPG or Tiff is then generated.  This series then starts over on the next photo to generate.  I am using Photoshop CS5 on a MAC.  I did uninstall and re-install Photoshop l, but I am getting the same series on messages.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

It sounds like you have an action running when processing the photos
Look at the bottom of the image processor dialog and and see if Run Action is checked

Are you wanting to add a second channel of audio along side the mono track?
Or, are you wanting to double the mon track into a faux-stereo track?
Either way, DO start with a stereo track on your audio settings.
But if your VHS audio is not split into two separate channels of sound, then there is no way to get true stereo.
However, for a faux-stereo sound, try copying the original mono track, paste it to a second audio track then nudge just that track by one frame.
Listen to it and if it doesn't give enough presence to the overall sound, try another frame nudge until you get the sound you like.
This isn't true stereo but will create more of an aural landscape that might satisfy your request.
