Converting Autocad .Dwg files to .U3d Files

Hello,
I have Adobe Acrobat Professional Version 8 and I am required to pdf 3D models from Autocad 2008.
The help index explains that you can pdf drawing models with Adobe Professional if the files are in .u3d version 1.0 file format.
Can any one please advise of free conversion software which will convert Autocad .dwg files to .U3d files?
Or is there an Acrobat 3D Toolkit plug in which could be used for this purpose?
Any advice would be most appreciated as I am new to Adobe 3D Modeling.
Thank you.

The best luck I've had was importing DXF or CGM files (sometimes one works better than the other) that had been exported from AutoCAD.

  • No preview for autocad dwg files (bridge CS4)

    hello!
    my computer is:
    windows 7 / x64 / nividia 9600GT
with my new computer we switched from CS3 to adobe CS4 products. (illustrator / PS)
unfortunately i can't see previews of autocad dwg files anymore. (very important for my work).
the .dwg files show up only as an autocad icon.
we installed autocad 2010. but i think this is not the case, because bridge does not make previews for autocad 2009 files either.
    windows 7 makes correct previews.
funny - bridge opens illustrator CS4 as default for .dwg files.
in the preferences "file type association" autocad as a software is missing. i have to browse to the autocad.exe program.
    the default association was illustrator...
is this the case for not making a preview? the "old" computer  was a - win xp / 32bit - the preview in CS3 was there.
i did not have to browse for the "file type association". autocad was a choosable entity.
any comment on that would be fine...
    thanks in advance.

    thanks for this quick reply...
we have "Lightroom" not installed. because we don't own this product...
our installation is only "Illustrator CS4" and "PS CS4". and "Bridge CS4" of course.
in the attachement you see the "File Type Association" process.
Bridge knows only "Illustrator" and "PS". I had to browse to the autocad.exe file (AutoCAD Application R18.0).
the other attachement shows the Autocad "icon" and the Illustrator preview / .jpg preview in Bridge.
    again:
"Windows 7" knows Autocad files. it does a preview of the .dwg /.dxf files correct.

  • Importing AutoCAD (.dwg) files to FM

I am trying to import .dwg files into .fm files. I don't normally use AutoCAD and don't know how to use it. But, I need to import images drawn in AutoCAD into a frame files. Is this as simple as inserting a picture? Or will the .dwg file need to be converted into something else as a .svg file before it can be imported/compatiable?
    Thank you!
I really appreciate any insight into this.

  • How to make a searchable PDF from an AutoCAD DWG file

We have PDF files created from AutoCAD, but they are not searchable using Adobe Reader X.  I checked the source DWG file to find what font was used, as suggested in an old post, and found that the DWG uses Arial font.  I am not sure what version of AutoCAD was used to create the file, but I can open it with AutoCAD LT 2011.  Can anyone guide me to a way to make searchable PDF files from these DWG files?

Ok, this is as I feared; something CAD programs are particularly likely to do is draw text with a pen, rather than use text. There might be options in AutoCAD to control this.

  • Illustrator CC is not importing AutoCAD DWG file layers correctly

In CS6, I could import (open) DWG files  and it would correctly categorize the input objects into separate layers. In CC, it is putting them into a group in a single layer,  which is a big usability regression. Is there a fix for this?

    Hi,
In attachment I have included two dwg files,  both were made in autocad 2014, one saved to autocad version 2007 and one to version 2010.
link to the files (link active for 7 days): http://we.tl/idgHIsqNgk
I have opened both in illustrator CC and saved them. Some objects in the Illustrator CC file are on different layers then in the the original autocad file.
I have opened the same testfile (2007) in illustrator CS6. (file testfile_2007_opened_in_AI_CS6). AI CS6 correctly imports the dwg file.
The same results are achieved with prior file versions of autocad and with the dxf file format.
Also the same results are achieved on different computers (all are windows 7 pro 64bit/autocad 2014-english)
    Software configuration:
    Windows 7 64-bit professional SP1 – English
    Autocad 2014 : Autocad architecture SP1 version l.108.0.0 – English
Illustrator CC : illustrator CC  (64-bit) version 17.1.0 - english

  • Does anyone else have trouble opening Autocad dwg files in Illustrator CS4?

When I try to open some .dwg files from Autocad I get the message " Version of this LPF file is not supported" Can anyone help with this? Does the problem lie with the (autocad) sender or with Illustrator? Stumped and needing to get on with work!

It probably dies not support that version, for instance v2010

  • Attach a autocad DWG files to Table in database

    Hi
How could i attach Auto Cad Drawing files to a Table?
    Thank you

    Hello,
What do you mean with "attach file to table", that' not a clear question for me? Do you mean to import the file into a table in a BLOB column? Or do you mean the usage of a FileTable table? Or ...?

  • Create a PDF file from DWG file

I would like to know how I can create from a DWG file ( autocad 2006/ 2008) a PDF file, using a computer whitout autocad installated on it. I use already PDF COMPLETE : I can create with this programm a PDF file from a word document but not from a DWG file.

You can use Acrobat X Pro. to convert your DWG files to PDF without having AutoCad on your system. Here is a chart with additional information.

  • I'm using Adobe Acrobat X (Ver 10.1.4) and up until recently i've been able to convert Autocad 2012

I'm using Adobe Acrobat X (Ver 10.1.4) and up until recently i've been able to convert Autocad 2012 .dwg files to .pdf, but after one of the automatic updates I get an error now that says "Cannot convert file type". Any ideas why Autocad .dwg files aren't supported anymore?

I've tried to print to the Adobe PDF printer and that doesn't work anymore either. I used to be able to go into windows explorer and select multiple files, right click them, then select "Combine supported files in Acrobat...". This method used to work until the latest automatic upgrade.

  • Converting AutoCAD to PDF (in monochrome)

Objective: to convert multiple AutoCAD files (via Windows Explorer) to PDF - converting from color to monochrome.
Now......I can successfully print to pdf from within AutoCAD and get monochrome outcome by selecting appropriate plotter configuration.
My problem is stemming from attempting for this same outcome by selecting multiple files within Windows Explorer, right clicking, and selecting "Convert to..." options.
    1. I always get the color version
    2. PDF plots tend to have additional white space/margins (not printing to page size).
    - I've played with default settings in the print driver itself.
    - I've been in Distiller and attempted some customized settings there.
I just can't seem to find where/how to get a positive outcome on this one.
Since my job entails me to do this routine quite often I would greatly appreciate any assistance I can get from you "pro's" out there.
Cuz' this "one at a time" routine in AutoCAD is wayyyy too time consuming.
    With great appreciation!

I should also include the facts that I am using:  AutoCAD 2011, and Adobe Acrobate 9 Pro.

I am also having trouble with converting AutoCAD DWG to Adobe PDF.  I have tried several different methods.  I've tried outputing the color PDF to a post script file, however that is still in color.  I've tried using custom Color Plot Styles (monochrome.ctb) and Named Plot Styles (monochrome.stb), but since I did not create the original AutoCAD DWG (it is 10 years old from 2004), they are not the correct plot style files.  I do not have AutoCAD and use ProE/Creo instead.  I've tried importing into my CAD tool, however all the fonts are different.  I've also tried exporting the PDF to a raster format like TIFF but the resolution is really bad for engineering drawings.  If I increase the resolution, then it sometimes will say that the image is too big and in cannot save/export the image.
It seems like this should be really simple to do in Adobe.  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.  I can go to Tools > Print Production > Preflight > PDF Fixups > Convert to grayscale, which will convert to grayscale, but not to monochrome.  Similarly I can go to Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors and select Conversion Profile to Gray Gamma 2.2, however that still will produce grayscale, but not monochrome.

  • Autocad .dwg import into Illustrator CS4

Can you import Autocad .dwg files into Illustrator CS4 keeping polyline widths?  Can joined polylines remained joined once imported?  When opening .dwg files in Illustrator I get very inconsistent results.  Sometimes polylines remained joined and keep their widths, other times not.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It depends on what version of CAD and Program it came from, it can come from the same source but could have been created originally from an earlier version of the application.
I believe the newer versions of AutoCAD do not have this problem because the polylines and shapes are created differently.
I may also have something to do with the way the CAD operator prepared and exported the file so there may actually be logic to the results.
However I can suggest you might want to look at  plug in that can help you fix the problem if the lines are not join it is called concatenate.
    http://rj-graffix.com/software/plugins.html I think it costs $10.00
But if the polylines are nibs from an older CAD app it will always lose it weight but since the nibs retain their color yu might be able to write some actions to select and change the weight or a script to fix all the weights.
If this is happening with newer versions of the CAD programs I would suggest trying the old method of export and use a file in the esp format rather that dwg.

  • FM doesn't import AutoCAD DWG anymore

May be that updates, or FM11 installation can be a matter, but I can't import anymore any AutoCAD .DWG file in any version of FrameMaker. Until about 2 month ago I imported AutoCAD .DWG files, in FM10 for a client that uses a lot of .dwg files.
Now a new job, with the same client, came, but I can't import .dwg files... in any version of FM I have installed (from 7 to 11): they give me the same error:
"The filter encoutered an error and could not complete the translation."
Even the "old" .dwg I imported 2 months ago don't work anymore.
The things I do in the meantime with may PC are installing FM11 and updating vairous Adobe software I have on it.
    Any idea?
(oh, yes, in the mean time I survived printing the .dwg on pdf files and importing them, but it's not the same...)

thanks for your reaction. I'll find a problem on my harddisk I'll use for the RAW files. On a other disk there is no problem anymore. thanks so far.......
