Converting AVI movies for my Iphone

I shoot lots of short movies with my digital camera and would love to watch these on my Iphone. How do I do this? Would a movie show up under my Photos (where I would like them) or under Videos in Ipod?

Or .. add to iTunes, then use iTunes to convert them. Then sync.
They will be in the "Videos" section of "iPod" on the iPhone.

  • How do you convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date

Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

  • Convert AVI/MOV to WMV

I'm looking for a program to convert avi/mov files to wmv, preferably freeware/cheap shareware, so that I can stream movies to my 360. I know there's flip4mac studio pro, but $99 is just a little excessive for something that's basically just a stop gap until Nullriver puts support for mpeg files in Connect360. In any case, any help anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Why do I need to convert QT movies for my ipad2?

Becuase the iPad only reads certain video formats you will need to convert them.
But luckily you can drag your video files into iTunes and select the iTunes menu command (from the Advanced menu) to convert the file into a iPad/AppleTV comatible format. Easy.

  • Converting AVI movie files for editing in iMovie

I have a bunch of .avi movies from an old Flip Camera that I'd like to import into iMovie. I can play the videos using MPlayerX, but how do I import them into iMovie? iMovie doesn't recognize these files. I'm working on an iMac. Thanks for your help

Thanks I downloaded MPEG and I think I'm able to convert it, but iMovie still isn't recognizing the video even after saved it as a .mov. Maybe there's a wrong format? I'll look into Perian. thank you for your help

Hey .. what is the simplest way to convert AVI files to a format that can be burnt to DVD for playback on a regular DVD player ?? I know Toast Titanium is the standard but is there any other way ??

QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip can convert them. Some AVIs require that Perian be installed, while others can't be converted in Mac OS X through any means; AVI is a container, not a format.

  • Converting avi files for FCE

    Hi,
I have a ton of avi files that I need to convert for editing in FCE.
My goal: to get my avi clips into FCE so they don't have to be rendered in the timeline and everytime an edit is made. I've read several posts which suggests mpeg streamclip. My avi format is: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions DVI ADPCM, Mono, 22.050 kHz FPS: 29.97, size: 640 x 480 pixels (this is the format listed when I open the clip in quicktime). My my final output of this FCE project is to view on HDTV (16:9) via dvd, so the best quality is what I would like.
    My questions:
Is streamclip what I should be using?
And what settings should I use in streamclip to convert the avi files? (my guess would be: quicktime movie for the format) I've been trying different options under quicktime movie and the conversion leads to a jerky choppy video.
    thank you!

I'm thinking the problem is you are missing an audio codec required for this Casio Exilim video. Your camera specs say that it records MJPEG in an AVI container with a spec for WAV audio. You also indicated that the VLC media player said it was MS audio.
when I open a avi file in mpeg streamclip these are the specs that are listed under "show stream info"
    Stream: CIMG1281.AVI
    Path: ~/Documents/CIMG1281.AVI
    Duration: 0:00:35
    Data Size: 26.65 MB

Have you tried the Perian plugin for QuickTime. It adds AC3.audio support for playback of AVI files, which seems to have fixed the no-audio problem for a bunch of other people.
Yes, I have perian installed. I even tried reinstalling both to be sure.

  • Making a Capitvate movie for the iPhone

    Hi all.
I am looking to do online training for an iPhone using Captivate.  I have done this before using SOTI and skins for other Windows Devices but SOTI does not support iPhone or Droid (another movie I need to do).
Basically I am looking for an iPhone simulator where my iPhone would be displayed on my screen and I can capture all of the movements on the device using Captivate.
Has anyone done any iPhone training of this sort?  I don't want to download the Apple SDK since that's on a Mac and Captivate doesn't run on Macs.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks..
    Erika

Hi Erika--  This probably won't be too much help to you now, but I've seen a demo online of the upcoming Flash CS5 which contains a "Publish to iPhone" option.  In theory, you could export out your Captivate project to Flash CS5, then publish from there.  (Unless, of course, Adobe includes this publish to iPhone capability in Captivate 5.)
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcs5/appsfor_iphone/
Again, I'm sure this isn't very useful to you now, but depending on your timing need (and Adobe's rollout of CS5), maybe this could be a option for you.
    Good luck!
    Joel
Edit> sorry, I just re-read your message and realized what I posted isn't what you're looking for at all.  Instead, you're looking to capture activity FROM an iPhone.  Have you thought about "ScreenFlow" or one of the other Mac screen capture utilities using the Apple iPhone SDK?  ScreenFlow captures in QuickTime format, but you could use the Adobe Video Encoder to convert to FLV to use in Captivate.  (Convoluted, I realize, but it might achieve what you're looking for...)

  • Converting a movie for iPod is EXTREMELY slow

    Hi,
I am trying to convert a movie that I have in iTunes to use on an iPod touch. I used Advanced --> Create iPod or Iphone Version. However, it is EXTREMELY slow. The movie is 95 minutes and under 2GB in size. After 2+ hours of converting it's still only at roughly 30% converted. Should it really take almost 8 hours to convert one 95 minute movie? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

Thank you Chris. The movie is not from iTunes. I ripped a DVD using Handbrake to a .mv4 file. I have ripped other DVDs to this format and they transfer to my iPod just fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is... I cannot open the file in iMovie, although it recognizes and allows me to open other .mv4 movies. The other odd thing is that this movie in particular transfers to my Apple TV just fine. Is there simply a problem with the file perhaps? A problem with iTunes?
    Thank you for your help.

  • What apps is good to converter the movies for the format of IPAD

What is most popular apps to converter the movies CD and DVD to all format or to play in my IPAD.

I use DVD Catalyst......not really an "app". You're going to convert your movie on your computer first and then sync it to your iPad.....unless there's some other way to do it that I am unfamiliar with.

  • Converting .avi files for use on ipad without using a laptop

Hi, I have a head cam (for use on the slopes and on my bike) that records .avi files to an sd card.  I was wanting to know before I buy the sd connector for the ipad if there is any easy way (I appreciate that there are some complicated ways) to convert then edit the video with a movie editor.  I was thinking about buying iMovie but I understand it doesn't recognise .avi files so would need to convert them beforehand - I don't intend to take my laptop though so need to do it all on the ipad - qu therefore is can it be done, in a simple straightforward way, with full knowledge that I am not a techie ?

Here is an article that will help you and has links to some software to help convert your wma files to a usable format.

  • Converting/Ripping movies for the Touch

    Hi,
I have a Windows Vista PC and an iTouch 3rd gen. I have a few home made movies that are in either avi or wmv format that I would love to convert to be able to download and watch on my iTouch.
First - is there any free software out there that will convert these files? I found a handful that do not seem to work on Vista, or have significant limitations in their free mode. I tried to convert them in iTunes using the add file to library, but the movies did not show up in the library after selecting them.
Second, in my search for a converter I came across an App that claims to be able to take a movie off of a DVD and convert it to an iPod format of mp4. This tool is called "Wondershare DVD Converter Ultimate". Anyone have any experience using this tool? Does it work on all DVD's? Is this legal (assuming I own the DVD's)? If not this tool - is there another tool people are using to pull a movie off a disk in iPod format?
    Thanks!
    Glenn

I tried format factory (FF) on two movies I have but had less than good results.
I have one movie that is a .avi file. This movie was converted to mp4 by FF but when I went to add it to my iTouch I got a message saying it could not be added because it was not compatible. However, I was able to select it and then use the iTunes converter to turn it into a version that worked.
I also had a movie that was a .wmv file. This one converted to mp4 from FF and added ok to the iTouch. However, the video is all scrambled/garbled. I tried the same as above in using iTurns to make a second conversion but it said it would not because it already was in the right format.
So - a little bit of a pain on the first movie but acceptable results. Just did not work on the second movie.
If anyone has any other suggestions for a movie converter that works on windows (vista) let me know.
    Thanks!

  • Converting .avi files for use in iDVD

I have multiple .avi files that I'd like to add to a DVD using iDVD. These files are in their original format at 30 kb/sec and not compressed at all so they are HUGE...totaling almost 20G.
What is the best way to convert these files so that they can be imported into iDVD and fit on a single DVD. The files would be about an hour and a half playing time so I am hoping that can be done. I realize quality may be compromised but I'm willing to lose a little bit.

Roxio Toast is your best option IMO but if you want to stay within the iApps then you'll first have to add the avi files to iMovie => iDvd. That or use a third part app likeMpegStreamclip (free download):
I suggest you do not exceed 120 mins playback for SL Dvd-R
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Converting XviD movies for iTunes

I have quite a few XviD music videos that I would like to import into iTunes that I can watch with Apple TV. I purchased QuickTime Pro yesterday and I exported a couple of videos, one to QuickTime Movie (.mov) and one for Apple TV (.m4v) to see what the difference is.
    A 50MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 140MB Quicktime movie.
A 44MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 74MB Apple TV movie.
    My questions are:
Is the quality of the .mov better than the .m4v?
Is there any other benefit (for iTunes or Apple TV) of one over the other.
I would like to group these into iTunes with some organization, but currently they both show up in the Movies section. Is there a good way to organize movies by artists?
    Thanks for your help!

You need to do get info while playing each movie ckip and report the bitrates not this info, which we kind of knew - reason: the H.264 could be 5 mb/sec for one and 1 mb/sec for the other, to be clearer. You can report what the AVI is , bitrate wise as well.
Though I think Big Endian is uncompressed audio and may take up a lot of room. The AAC is much more compressed audio.
Use MPEG Streamclip, export to MPEG-4 and pick the variouos iPod/Apple TV presets and make your life a LOT easier and it is free. Does batches of files too. I don't ever use QT itself, as MPEG Streamclip uses it as the engine.
iTunes won't have a problem, if the bitrates exceed the iPod limits they won't play on an iPod. I am pretty sure the Big Endian audio won't at all.
You can change a MOV file to a music video in iTunes merely by changing the setting under Video when you do get info on it.
