Converting .caf to .mp3 . . . . I get a dash (-) before the .mp3?

I have been converting .caf music to .mp3 using a preset made from the "Podcasting" preset.
However, whatever is in the name field in the Inspector appears before the .mp3.
Originally I called my preset "MP3 Audio" and when I converted say, "Night Music.caf" I ended up with "Night Music MP3 Audio.mp3"!!!!
I then deleted the title of my preset, which improved matters but I was still left with a dash making the file look like "Night Music-.mp3"
What must I do to just get "Night Music.mp3"?

You can take this a step farther if you'd like by setting your new custom destination as the default destination for your setting.
Select your setting, then click the actions tab in the inspector. The default destination can be changed there. This would save you the extra step of changing the destination on each batch, if you're using the same destinations.

  • I don't see an option to convert caf to mp3, when I export... thoughts?

I open a CAF file in Quicktime Pro and I wanted to export it as an MP3.
I didn't see an export to MP3 option, so I exported the file to a WAV file then converted that to MP3.
Any ideas how I can export directly to MP3?
I may have missed when I was looking for this...
    Thanks..

I found a bunch of Apple Loops from an old iLife install that used the Core Audio Format.
Thanks for the heads up—I think I located them. Managed to find one 2 sec file online, but it was an old IMA 4:1 audio format. In either case, I can only convert the .caf files indirectly using built-in Mac OS X software as follows:
    1) Open the .caf file in either QT X or QT 7 Pro and export. (I prefer the QT 7 Pro "Sound to AIFF" option.)
    2) Open the exported file in iTunes and convert to MP3 for file management to compatible devices.
    3) Delete intermediate and/or sources file(s) if not wanted.

  • Convert .caf into .mp3

    Hi
I have a problem with converting a CAF file into a MP3 file. I used the SpeakHere example and want to send this file. But I didn't figure it out how to convert this into mp3. According to the iPhone Dev docs there's no mp3 functionality...
Does anybody know how to convert it?
    Thanks and Regards

You can play mp3s in the simulator but they won't work on the device. If you really want to convert from a .caf, just use the export function of Quicktime.

  • Pleasanton store always overcrowded and noisy. They no longer offer one hour one on one intro session. I can't hear or think with all the commotion in the store.  How can I get an appt. before the store opens?

The Pleasanton store is always overcrowded and noisy. I can't hear and can hardly think in there. They no longer offer a 1 hr. one on one intro session. I want to buy a mac this week but I won't if I can't try one and get my questions answered. How can I get an intro session before the store opens?

If you know which computer you want you can order it online at the online Apple Store. As for learning your new computer Apple provides many online tutorials for people make the switch from a PC. Here are some starter sites that I'd recommend you bookmark and use.

If you prefer to purchase directly from a brick and mortar Apple Store you are very fortunate to live in the Bay Area, where there are many stores to choose from. When you arrive tell the receptionist you want to purchase an iMac and they will have help you get a sales professional to help you. You can also use the new system Apple implemented this past week at any of the display counters to request a sales person come to you. Again the receptionist can help you get started on that too. Once a system is purchased and you buy the one on one service the one one one service is executed where it's more quiet than inside the store. I frequent the Valley Fair store in Santa Clara on occasion, this store is extremely busy and I see people receiving one on one service all the time within the mall at dedicated tables.

  • Getting burned just before the burn: general error

After a bit of struggle getting CS4 on my machine, (an upgrade from CS3), I did a test project of a few short DV-based shorts and tried to burn a disk. Just after a successful transcode, it gives the "general error" error and stalls the burn. Same thing with burning a folder or an image. I also noticed that if I try to preview the project again after burning fails, it won't preview either (although it will before the burn attempt). Any attempt to bring in pre-rendered (*.mpg) files from any source hangs the whole machine.
I have taken some of the advice from the forums, like removing the audio track, etc., to see if this helps, but so far it doesn't. I am running it on Windows 7 64bit, but it has not had any issues so far with PP CS4 or any of the other Adobe products compatible with the Vista 64bit OS.
    Machine stats:
    Intel Q9650 cpu
    Intel DG33-TL mobo
    8GB memory
1TB RAID 0 for SD and HD files
    nVidia Quadro 540 graphics card
    No overclock or special tweaks
Been using PPro since 1.0, but have not seen this problem before.
    Another perspective maybe helpful.
    Thanks-

    Addendum:
I have used Cineform in the past (Aspect HD) but I removed it because it was interfering with some of my other software. I replaced it with NEO player, but I'll see what taking that off will do.
I sometimes use the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for ingest of some of the HD footage into Premiere.
My machine, for reasons I cannot figure out, recognize any camcorder through Firewire (I generally use P2 cards anyway); I do not think this bears on this particular problem with Encore CS4.

  • I have the latest version of iTunes and want to convert  files to MP3 - how do I do that?

I have iTunes  11.0.4 which is upgraded from 11.0.12 and I have the same problem I had before the upgrade.  The choice to convert files to MP3 no longer exists per the instructions.  Does anyone who works for Apple know how to do this?  Why would Apple take this feature away?  It was really helpful.
I will have to start using the Amazon Cloud Player if iTunes can't get this resolved.  Help!!!  I love the old iTunes, but the new one ***** - does anyone know how to overcome this problem without 3rd party software?
    Thanks!

Set up your preferred import format under Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings, then right click on a selection of tracks to convert. If you want to permanently change the format, discarding the originals, while preserving ratings, play counts and playlist membership, then try my script ConvertFormat.

  • Can't convert MIDI to mp3 after update to iTunes 6.0.2

    Hi,
I had no troubles in the past converting Midi to mp3 in iTunes, but after updating to 6.0.2 I get an "unknown error" (-50) when trying to do so. This occurs on both machines, my iBook (OS 10.3.9) and my iMac (10.4.4). Can anyone help me?
    iMac G5 (10.4.4), iBook G4 (10.3.9) Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have exactly the same experience. Similar setup to yours. This is obviously a bug. All we can do is report it to Apple Bug Reporting:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
There may be a way to convert the files that doesn't use iTunes, so if anybody knows about it please tell us!

  • Converting WMA to MP3 files - struggling

Bckground info - compaq presario laptop (3-4 years old)
Problem experienced -  is trying to convert WMA to MP3 files to transfer to flash drive for use through he usb port in my audio amp. Can't find a means in WMP and struggled with Winff and Jodix, neither of which seem to want to transfer the files once identified. Any safe suggestions. (just downloaded a load of dross from Google in a search for Jodix amongst which was something called YAC which was most reluctant to uninstall).

iTunes cannot use wma files so it needs to convert them.
They will not get added to iTunes until they are converted so you cannot choose to convert them later.
I noticed I cannot load additional WMA files during the conversion process. I have to wait until the process is complete before loading more files.
Why not add them all at once?
File -> *Add folder to library* and pick the top level folder where the wma files are.

  • Convert aac to mp3; copy in new location?

Most of my music is ripped into iTunes as AAC.
Have an MP3 (no AAC/MP4 capability) player I want to move music to. Have figured out I can convert the selections to MP3, burn to a CD, and then copy to the MP3 player (it doesn't show up in iTunes). Problem is, everything I convert to MP3, the copies show up in the main music library right by the originals. How can I get the copies into some other directory, as I only want them for copying into the MP3 player?
    thankx in advance
    -Bruce_

There's no way to just drag the files to Toast and have them converted.
If they are unprotected AAC files you can convert them in iTunes.
Go to Preferences>Advanced>Importing and make sure that you've set it to mp3. Then, select the song(s) you want to convert. From the Advanced menu choose Convert Selection to mp3. This will create a second file in mp3 format.
If they are Protected AAC files, you can burn them to an audio CD in iTunes and use them it as you would any other audio CD.

  • New iTunes 4.9 doesn't convert .mpg into .mp3 or aac ?

    hello support!
I'm a producer in a german radiostation. we're working with soundfiles saved in .mpg files (mpeg1 audio). In past (with version 4.8) it was possible to import that files into itunes and convert it into mp3 or aac. Now, with that new podcast version, it doesn't work. If I try, I get an unknown error "(-50)". does anyone know about this problem?
and another question: why does itunes play that .mpg files without any problems and ipod doesn't ???

    dennis

    Dennis,
    What I did:
    1) I bought apple quicktime pro do not follow me in this it won't help you.. I got angry and at the apple store they said I would get my money back because I asked them BEFORE I bought and they said it would work. It doesn't
    2) I downloaded MPEG streamclip (free) at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    AND....
It works! You do not need to buy the Apple quicktime MPEG 2 component rubbish, you do not need it if you convert just audio!
I have MP2 files with 384 kbbs and I was looking a bit odd when they showed up as 192 kbbs but that is per stereo channel so the total comes to 384 again.
I transferred the files into AIFF and it works I do see a conversion into AC3 is that AAC? well if you can convert to AIFF you can use iTunes again to convert to AAC or MP3!
so now you can do the job! I am now, after a few hours, again back to start to work..... thanks iTunes boys!
there is another app at http://www.dekorte.com/projects/shareware/SoundConverter/ is seems to do the job as well but it'll cost you 10 dollar. And I do not know if it is as good as the free app...

  • Converting iTunes into MP3 file

    Hey everybody,
OK, I've purchased music from iTunes store. I want to convert them into mp3 so I can download them into my Palm t/x. But I keep getting the same message telling me that the song is "protected and cannot be converted." Is there any way to get around this? Thanks for any help.

Thanks so very much that worked like a dream...now I have to buy another card...The one I have just doesn't have enough memory ;o)

  • Converting songs to mp3

Another brilliant job Apple!!! (note sarcasm)
Like an inept buffoon I purchased an album from the iTunes store... That was easy and simple... Fantastic... However, like every other Apple product, it looks great, is easy to use but there is little to no substance to it when you look under the hood!!!
I purchased a brand new car yesterday that can play mp3's.
I copied the songs in their raw format to a CD and put it in the car... Why are only half the songs visible??? Where's my new album? After investigation, I find that the file format is m4a which of course is not mp3 and is unreadable to my in-car CD player... After much searching I out I can just use itunes to convert it to mp3... perfect, not such a disaster after all... Until I try to execute it...
I right click on the songs on the album and click "Create Mp3 version" (after fiddling with some settings) and I get the following error: "file could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats"
    That is awesome!!!
How do I get my songs, which I purchase legally, into a format that I can use on my in-car CD player (mp3 format)...
I am struggling to understand why I would ever purchase from the iTUnes store again after this when I can just buy the CD from the shop without any restrictions or I can just download them in mp3 format directly from the Bigpond Music store????
Can someone please advise if there is some feature or benefit I am missing from using iTunes??? Because right now I just see it as a restrictive, inferior and useless mechanism for purchasing my music???

I am now aware of this restriction and will refrain from purchasing music from iTunes in the future however, I was uneducated when I made my first few purchases...
I have got around it as ed2345 suggested by using the already burnt CD's and ripping them to mp3 format... So all iTunes is doing is making it difficult, not stopping it altogether...
The problem I have now is that I have 2 singles I've purchased that I want to convert and it would be a waste to burn them to CD just to convert them back to mp3...
    Thanks for the feedback anyway guys... At least I have some options;
    1. Burn to CD and then rip
    2. Look at purchasing some software that converts protected music
All in all though... Apple appear to be working hard to match Microsoft in the dictatorial stakes... That's why we left Microsoft for Apple in the first place...they tried to dictate how we did everything... Apple, please don't follow Microsoft's mistakes!

  • Converting .m4p to .mp3 or .wav?

I have an iTunes problem someone might be able to help with? I have downloaded a .m4p music file in iTunes. I want to use it in photo editing software that only accepts .mp3, .wav and .wma file types, and didn't detect the m4p file in the folder it was in.
Is there any way to get m4p files into mp3/wav/wma formats (without risking overrunning my computer with viruses, spyware etc)? I know there may be legal issues too but I’m not very clear on them so if anyone can inform me that would be helpful.
These are the bright ideas I had so far that didn't work...
I tried to convert .m4p to .mp3/wav in iTunes - copied the file onto a CD, imported it back into iTunes and tried to convert it to .wav in iTunes. But I still got a message saying protected files cannot be converted to other formats.
I tried to download converting software to do this, eg
    http://www.allformp3.com/m4a-to-mp3.htm
    http://www.allmusicconverter.com/
But when I tried to run the software, I kept getting a warning message from Internet Explorer, saying the file did not have a valid digital signature that verified its publisher and advising not to run it, so I didn't run it.
I thought maybe I could open the file in another program and save it in an acceptable different format. I tried Windows Media Player 11, it wouldn't recognise .m4p, and wouldn't let me save in specific formats. I tried RealPlayer, it would open and play the file but wouldn't save it in another format.
    Any advice appreciated!!
    Thanks

Tracks purchased from any legal download store carrying major-label content, including the iTunes Store, are copy-protected (with the exception of music on EMI's labels, much of which is also available in a higher-quality, nonprotected format) and so cannot be directly converted to any other format. You can, however, burn the tracks purchased from the iTunes Store out to an audio CD, at which point it will act just like any other normal audio CD.

  • How to convert AAC to MP3 in iTunes

I sent a friend of mine a song in the AAC format; I had thought that format was universally acceptable. Unfortunately, my friend said that she couldn't open the file. I then thought of converting the file to the MP3 format, because I know she can read that. This gets to my question: How do you do it? When I highlighted the song and clicked on Advanced, the only option was to convert to AAC. That's when I decided to come here. Is there a way to convert AAC to MP3 with iTunes? Also, how widespread is the acceptance of AAC?
iMac DV (Special Edition)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You got the process correct, it
is just that iTunes only offers you the option to
convert to whatever your preferences are currently
    set to for importing.
So go to preferences, importing, set it to MP3. then
go to your song and you can now use the "Convert
to..." option which should show MP3. Once done, go
back to preferences and switch back to AAC if that is
what you normally want to use.
    Patrick
That was fast. Anyway, it worked. Thanks for your help. Now, all I have to do is to work-out what combination of factors I should use to obtain the smallest possible MP3 file while maintaining decent quality. It's an individual decision. What would be okay for me, might be intolerable to others, but I want to keep all sound files less than 1 MB. Make that, "all sound files that I send". I hope that doesn't mean that I will have to keep duplicate files. We'll just have to see. Anyway, thanks again.
