Converting Canon VRO files to Mpeg

A few years ago I purchased a Canon DC20 dvd camera and haven't used it much.  Today, however, I managed to convert one of the mini dvd discs from the VRO format to mpeg.   I'd now like to go one stage further and start to learn to use iMovies.  But first, can anyone please point me in the right direction by suggesting a programme that will convert my several dvd discs into mpg (if that's the right way forward).  Much obliged.

Maybe I didn't make myself entirely clear.  When I download the files I've taken with the canon dvd camera they came of the mini dvd disc as VR_MANGR.IFO and VR_MOVIE.VRO
I found a programme called vavtube HD whiich I downloaded to see if it worked and, if I liked it, the cost would be about 45$ .   Obviously to play on iMovie I would need them as readable Mac files which I successfuly converted and ran them with the .mp4 extension.  It was very good, but as I know nothing of iMovie and movies generally, I want to be sure that I'm using the right programme now rather that go down a route then have to use something else at a later stage.  I hope someone can advise that's a bit more savvy than I am on movies.
Thanks

If you are on CC2014 probably not. It does not get interpreted correctly.
Premiere and previous versions does not support MOD files.

  • Problem Converting Canon CR2 Files to DNG

I am currently on holiday, shooting photos with my Canon 70D in raw (CR2), and I have my Macbook Air with me, with Lightroom 5.4 installed on it.  After each day's shooting, I have been putting the flash card from the camera into the laptop, and downloading the photos using Lightroom, converting the CR2 files to DNG in the process.  This was working fine until a couple of days ago when suddenly, Lightroom has decided that it can no longer do the conversion.  It displays the photos on the card, it allows me to choose the ones I want to download, and then it tells me that it cannot convert/download them because it cannot read the files.  Well, if it cannot read the files, how can it display them so that I can make my choices?  And why, after working successfully for weeks, am I suddenly getting this error message ... nothing has changed in my hardware or software in either the camera or computer.  Any and all help would be most appreciated.  Thank you!!

Thanks very much for the answer, but I'm afraid it is not very enlightening ... at least to someone like me.  I do not understand where I would look for a write permission issue ... especially since nothing has changed (as far as I know).  Can you give me any further help?  Thanks!

  • Converting Canon .CR2 files to .dng

I have what appears to be the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter (8.6.0.254); but when I direct it to a folder containing .CR2 files from my Canon PowerShot G7X camera, it tells me "No items match your search" and does no conversion. How can I convert this type of RAW file to .DNG?

I don't understand your question. Here is what I do in the Digital Negative Converter:
    - Step 1 is "Select the images to convert"; I click on "Select folder" and navigate to the folder containing a .CR2 file
    - in that window, I see "No items match your search." even though it contains a .CR2 file from my Canon camera. Whether I then click on Select or Cancel makes no difference, since the program does not recognize any files.
    - If despite that, I click on Convert, I receive an error message "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files."
In other words, .CR2 raw files are not being recognized by the latest released production version of the converter.

  • How do I convert FLV video files to Mpeg (or any other video format?)

I have about 60 flv files I need to convert to mpeg and am using MPEGSTREAMCLIP 1.9.1 but every file loses all audio. Ive tried converting to every format MPEGSTREAMCLIP can do and all lose all audio. Anybody have any idea why this is or is there some other free file converter I should use for flvs?
Ive also tried VISUALHUB but for some reason these flv's are not compatible with it.
    Thanx in advance!

"Ive also tried VISUALHUB but for some reason these flv's are not compatible with it."
Now that is strange. Are you using v1.34.1? I converted a few flv files a few weeks ago without any issue.
Video Monkey utility took over from where VH left off. Try it. It's free & claims to be just like VH including +"ease of use."+

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,
    numetro

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • Importing VRO files into iMovie

Hi - a newbie here. I have a load of home movies recorded on a Canon DC210 camcorder in VRO format. I want to import them to iMovie with minimum loss of resolution. Following advice on various forums I have downloaded MPEG Streamclip and the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback upgrade. So far I have opened the VRO file in MPEG Streamclip (selecting the Fix Timecode Breaks option), but I'm not sure then the best settings to use to export the files. The forums I read had conflicting advice about which codec and quality level to use. Also what about the many other export options: frame size, sound settings, field dominance and frame rate? Using the Apple Intermediate Codec with 75% quality and Deinterlace Video option checked worked okay. I could import the resulting MOV file to iMovie and it looked fine to my eye but I'm concerned about loss of quality which I might regret in later years. Thanks for any advice!

srendell have you tried performing a simple Camera Import using iMovie '09.

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs require a codec which simply isn't available for Mac OS X.

  • DNG Converter no longer converts focusing points from Canon CR2 files

    Hi all,
Up until some time between July 2010 and September 2010, the focusing points embedded in the original Canon CR2 files were also converted and containded in the DNG-file. Hence up until this point in time the focusing points were shown in Apple's Aperture. Since September 2010 this is no longer the case.
I had hoped for the DNG Converter 6.7 Beta to have corrected this truncation of the files.
I am using af Canon EOS 1D Mark III. I am running OS X Lion 10.7.3
    1. Has anybody else experienced the same change in behavor of the DNG Converter?
    2. Can anybody still see the focus points in Aperture or equal Imaging program?
    3. Does anybody have an idea, how to contact Adobe for such a feature request?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Kind regards,
    Allan

    Hi MadManChan2000,
Thank you for your answer. So what you are saying is that for some reason Apple's Aperture is no longer reading these MarkerNote metadata correctly?

  • Converting Canon S90 CR2 files with DNG 5.6

I have converted files from my S90 with the latest version of DNG Converter. When I compare the DNG file to the original CR2 file, there is a marked increase in saturation, and also more noise. Am I doing something wrong with the conversion? Help please. I am using Adobe RAW 4.6 with Photoshop CS3. Comparative files can be viewed at http://dobbino.blogspot.com/2009/11/dng-converter-canon-s90-raw-files.html

Did you buy PSE in the mac app store? If not, just go to Help>Updates in the editor and update camera raw and you should be able to open the raw files in PSE 12 directly without the DNG converter.

  • Elements 11 will not convert Canon Raw-2 files to tif.

Dowmnloaded Elements 11 thinking it would convert Canon Raw-2 files to tif, but it will not why?

Can you open the raw files in the editor ? If yes, simply save your opened file from the editor in whatever format you want. The import dialog in ACR (Adobe raw converter) is only for the in-memory conversion to the Adobe image format; you have to save to the desired file format from the editor.
If you can't open your raw files, see:
