Converting captivate to single flv file?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Captivate, so forgive for my ignorance:
I've created my first tutorial and published it. When I look
in the publish folder I get a number of swf files, a html file and
activecontent js file.
This works fine, but the problem is that I want to publish my
tutorial to a streaming video server. In order to do this I need to
convert the captivate tutorial to a single .flv file (my tutorial
has no interactivity).
How can I achieve this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi rudgr
My gut tells me that we might see this output option emerge
with the next version.
It really isn't all that surprising to me if you know the
history of Captivate. See, It wasn't created by Adobe. Heck, Adobe
didn't even really create the Flash output. That was what
Macromedia created.
I'm not sure if MM truly created Flash technology or if they
acquired it elsewhere, but even Macromedia didn't create Captivate.
Yeah, they made it much sexier and more useful when they gave it
the Timeline. Before that, it was an ugly and nonsensical
application. It did cool stuff, but it made no sense (at least to
me at the time) as far as how you controlled timings and such.
Macromedia bought the eHelp corporation. eHelp owned the
product. And LOL, even THEY didn't create it THEY simply acquired
it and rebranded it under their own name. I was at a conference
working the booth for Adobe when I heard from one of the great
Adobe guys tell us that eHelp actually acquired the technology that
we now know as Captivate so they could get Macromedia interested in
buying them. So even eHelp didn't create Captivate (It was known as
RoboDemo back in those days)
eHelp acquired the technology from another company called
Nexus Concepts. The original product was known as FlashCam. So as
you should be able to clearly see from its pedigree, it should come
as no surprise to anyone that .FLV output isn't there yet.
Happy Tuesday... Rick

  • Convert portfolio to single pdf file

Hi, I have a portfolio of my email archive which I want to convert to a single pdf file. The way I'm doing it is by combining files and adding the portfolio file and then clicking combine, merge files into a single pdf, adding the portfolio and selecting single pdf file. This 'breaks up' the portfolio into its individual constituents which you can then combing into a single normal pdf file.
But there is a problem. In the portfolio the original date of the email is retained so you can sort the emails chronologically. However, when the portfolio is broken up the individual files are dated on the date the portfolio is created and so the new file is not sorted in the chronological send/receive order of the emails.
So my question is: how do I combine emails to a single pdf file in the chronological order of the emails?
    Many thanks
Ps Since typing this message I've noticed that when printing all files in the portfolio it also doesn't print it in chronological order even though that's how they're sorted in the portfolio.

    Something to try —
View the open Portfolio in the List or Basic Grid view.
    Select all the files.
Select File > Sae Files from Portfolio > Use the Browse For Folder dialog to select a destination.
    Click OK.
A copy of the Portfolio's files will be in the designated location.
Perform the Combine > Merge Files into a Single PDF action.
    Be well..

  • How do I download a video and convert it into an flv file? In previous versions, all I had to do was pick the resolution and it was done automaticlly. I use DVDFLICK to burn my downloaded videos to DVD.

In previous versions of Firefox, I was able to easily download and convert videos into .flv files. I was then able to burn DVDs of theses downloaded videos using DVDFLICK. I'm now unable to do this using Firefox6.0.2?

    Hello,
There is a process by which you can produce a BluRay encode on a red laser DVD. See link below
    from Ken Stone site.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/burn_br_mac_superdrivestone.html
Also this can be done in Toast 10 with the BluRay plugin, somewhat easier.

  • FLV files plays in preview, but not showing up on my LMS

I have imported a single .flv file into Captivate 4, which was created in Flash 8. It shows in preview mode, as well as when I preview in IE browser, but when I launch from my LMS, I get nothing on the page. I can embed an .swf  video file that was published out in Flash 8, and when I embed that into Captivate 4, it plays fine in preview mode and in my LMS. I have tried using different settings in Flash to render out the same video and nothing has worked. Any thoughts?

    Jp,
Thanks for the info. I did check with Tech Support from the LMS, and they assured me that the LMS does support .flv files. However, our online modules are launched from a webserver separate from the LMS, and that server needed to have the proper MIME type configured. By default, Windows 2003 Server does not have an associated MIME type to support deploying FLVs.
Specifically, it needed to be set up to recognize .flv files with the correct file association and content type specified. That took care of it.

  • Inserting a FLV file into CS5.5 project

    Hello,
If anybody is able to help me with my question I would be forever grateful.
    1. I use CS5.5 and I have published a captivate demonstration as a MP4 - then converted it to a FLV file using Adobe Media Encoder.
    2. I have then inserted the FLV file into another captivate CS5.5 project and published the file as a flash file.
Problem - The FLV file plays when previewing in web browser, and also plays on a public file location.  Problem occurs when I load the published file onto a web server I get a connection error when I get to the slide with the FLV file.
I am really stumped with this one.  Has anybody any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Rod,
Attached is a screen dump.  I can understand why when I publish the final flash version to a web server that it does not recognise the path of the FLV file as it is on my local drive.  However when I attempt to place the file name of the file sitting on the web server I get another error message (Refer to screen dump 2).  Obviously I am missing something

  • What do I convert my swf website banner file to so it will work in websites displayed in mac and windows browsers?

what do I convert my swf website banner file to so it will work in websites displayed in mac and windows browsers?

If its animated you'll want to convert it to an FLV file and embed it in your webpage.
    http://www.ehow.com/how_6881535_embed-flv-video-html.html
Otherwise a standard JPEG or PNG image file should suffice.

  • Embed a flv file into webpage

goto youtube.com. They give the html source code for each

  • Making a .flv file and retaining quality

I have a completely finished movie in Final Cut. I need to create a .flv version that is really small in file size (less than 10mb) but retain the quality.
What is the best way to do this?
I have a friend who had a quality .mov file of 18 mb that was converted in to a .flv file of 4.6 mb and it still looks amazing.
Any help would be much appreciated
    Tim

There is no magic button that will work for all videos. A lot depends on how many pixels are changing between frames and this can be drastically affected by long, slow dissolves - particularly if dissolving between motion-intensive scenes. And, of course, quality is a subjective term that must be ironed out with several review steps with you/your client.
That said, I've been very happy with results I've gotten from Sorenson Squeeze (and similar products) from Sorenson Media over the years.
    http://sorensonmedia.com/
Its interface offers quite a lot for tweaking the quality/size of the output files.

  • How do I convert an flv file to still images?

This may sound stupid, but I have a downloaded flv file, and I want to use about
8 seconds  to make still images so I can trace into Illustrator and then export it into Flash. (both are older versions).
    Is this possible?
It is for an animinated logo.
    Thanx.

Everybody's wrong wrong wrong. You don't need garageband. Select the song, go to info. You need to select a start and stop time for the song that can't be any longer than 40 seconds in length. Then in advanced mode you convert the song to acc. once done locate the file on the computer. it should end in .m4a . Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.

  • Can I convert each playlist into one single mp3 file

I have had great success creating and burning a playlist to a CD however I'd really prefer to save an ENTIRE playlist of about 20 songs as a SINGLE MP3 file.  I can then I burn each file (composed of songs in a playlist)  to a CD and have a nice set of organized music set/PLAYLISTS to listen to.  I stated my question in this manner because I've seen many similar questions but they are not what I am asking. I am using WIndows 7
    What I have tried:
1.) ...selecting the group of songs within the playlist and exporting as an MU3.  My results:  It created an MU3 file that played for less than 1 second when played in anything other than itunes.  In itunes it opened as the same playist I began with
2.) ...consolidating the files (the goal was to consolidate into one MP3 file) but once I selected the consolidate option I could not find that file under itunes Media which is the location where itunes says it would be stored.
3.) ..converting to MP3       Result: It just converted each individual file to MP3 format and NOT the entire list as a SINGLE MP3 file.
Does anyone know if there is a way to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance

Sorry to disappoint you, Chris... but I don't "take their product". Someone WHO WORKS FOR THEM "gives it to me". There's a MAJOR DIFFERENCE between someone handing you something that's theirs to hand you... and stealing it.
In 2006 I saw Sara Evans "perform" in Tucson. She flew on her congressional (then) husband's private plane from Portland to Orange County, refueled and flew to Tucson, where she got into a limo, and rode to the show. She got out of the limo, went straight backstage, I saw someone hand her a Dr. Pepper, which she opened, took a sip out of, and then went out on the stage as the headline act for the evening. She sang six (6) songs in twenty-three (23) minutes, walked offstage, did no encore, and got back in the limo, which whisked her back to the waiting jet to fly home.
The station manager of the radio station that sponsored the concert, later told me that she was paid $125,000 for that twenty-three minutes. Even he felt like the station didn't get their money's worth. The promoter paid for the jet fuel and her pilots' salaries.
In 2009, I went out to Phil Vassar's "motor coach" after a show, which is basically a house on wheels. He showed two friends and I the "studio" in the middle of this converted bus, where he can record new tracks and send them straight to the record company via satelite, for their final editing. The front has a full kitchen & living room and a 50" flat screen TV with a massive audio system. HE owns the whole thing, and when he doesn't feel like riding, he has a private plane of his own that will pick him up wherever they can land and fly him to the next show.  His promo guy gave each of us a copy of every CD he's ever released before we left.
I have no problem with people making money for their work. But I've seen just how much is given away in the music industry, and I'm not going to refuse things offered to me because someone with a private jet and limo, getting $6000 a minute, or with a half million dollar "rolling house" isn't getting paid for the things their own people are handing out in bulk.

  • Convert standard video files in to flv file at run time

    Hello All
How can we convert standard video files in to flv file at run
    time like
    you tube and
    Google Video is there any
script or tool to do this. This is urgent.
I have one project in this project client requiring function
like whatever standard video file he upload, it will be play in
    .flv formate
    Any help is appreciated

I think you need the Macromedia Flash Media Server to be able
to do what you are asking. Flash 8 can with a Flash Video Encoder
but it does not do it on the fly. There maybe other 3rd party
servers that you can sign-up that allow you do this but if you are
looking for your own solution you will need the FMS 2.0.

  • Converting .flv files?

Source file = .flv downloaded from Twitch TV
Need = to convert the .flv file to a format that I can edit in Final Cut Pro 10.0.6
End Result Desired = to posted editted version in format that will play on YouTube
When I download the .flv file, the audio and video play fine in Adoble Flash Player.   I have tried just ablout every .flv converter I can find and all convert the .flv video to H.264 or other formats, but the Audio is never included.  I cannot figure out why the audio does not come over.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    For the first question,
because Final Cut Pro uses QuickTime technology, almost any QuickTime-compatible file format can be imported and exported. well, you mentioned that the end result is to posted onto YouTube at last, so i recommend you use .mp4 format (can be supported both on FCP and YouTube) as output file.
I dont know what OS you are using, if you are using windows, you can use handbrake or freemake (both are free) to do that job well. Or you have a Mac computer, you may refer to guide here to convert .flv files to an mp4. I haven't done this in a long while, but it works fine for me before. Hope it works.
    For the second question,
you mean that the audio file is never output along with video. one reason for that is may the flv file codec is designed by different development team. you said you have tried just every .flv converter, can list them out? maybe some of tools (excluded from them) i know can shows you.
And Google search for more help.
    Regards.

  • Audio volume drops in FLV file after inserting into Captivate 4

The audio volume drops almost 50% in FLV files inserted into Captivate 4.  Is there a solution for this problem?
    Thank you.

    Hi Sony,
That was the first thing I ever tried when I discovered the default setting for FLV and slide video (variables and advanced actions are my favorites, as you know perhaps). Perhaps I missed something, and did not try in CP 5.5 or after the latest patch on CP5.0, but this system variable seemed only to have effect on the normal audio clips, not on audio for video?

  • How to convert a flash demo (either FLA or SWF) into FLV file

I first converted the FLA file into AVI file by using the option of export movie in my flash software. But the ouput was not good, the quality of the demo was hit. The animations looked shaky. Then I tried converting the same file into QT format but as I use Flash 8 I was told to change the version in the publish settings to either Flash 5 or a lower version which did not support the actionscript and the animations that my file had. My file occupies 13,320 frames which makes the FLA and the SWF file quite heavy. Is there any way in which I can convert my demo to FLV format without using a third party software and just use Adobe Flash and Adobe Flash Video Encoder to do the same?

I wanted to know how can the conversion be made without using any tool apart from Quick Time movie player and Adobe Video Encoder.
Though I managed to make the FLV file I discovered that the background music was not playing.
I want a solution through which I can make the FLV using only Quick Time player and Adobe Video Encoder and not lose the background music and the voice-overs that exist in my file.
