Converting Catalog from Photoshop Album 2 to P. Elements 4 or 9

When converting the catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0  PE Versions 4.0 or 9.0, I get 43% through the conversion and then an error message pops up saying the file is corrupt and to repir first in the original version. I have looked up other forums which have been helpful recommending to hold Control key down whening opening P Album to firstly repair the catalog. This done successfully, with the catalog working in Album "successfully repaired", it still does not correct the error message when attemptng to re-convert the catalog into the later versions. I have about 12,000 photos in the catalog. Any ideas most welcome?

I am curious
Is PS Album 2 running on a Windows XP PC ? Does PS Album run normally ?
PSE 4 on the same PC ?
Is PSE 9 running on the same computer as Photoshop Album 2 ?
Or perhaps is PSE 9 running on a new computer with Windows 7 ?
For PS Album 2, in addition to doing the repair of the Catalog (which you  have done), you should not have any disconnected files when you attempt a catalog upgrade. In PS Album 2, look for a command to Reconnect All Missing Files -- it may be under the File menu.  Run that command.

  • Converting Catalogs From Photoshop Album (2.0) to Photoshop Elements 13

My Photoshop Album currently holds some 23,000 photographs/jpgs from 2003 to date. Each is catalogued to provide a very high level of granularity to assist in identifying specific photographs and their subject content.
I have purchased Photoshop Elements to update the management of the collection. The Adobe information identifies it to be a suitable successor but indicates that there is likely to be some effort required to update the catalog. Using Catalog Manager I have attempted to Convert the old catalog which didn’t work because it “couldn’t be seen” in Elements. Further research of the Forum and other Adobe resources pointed to the Catalog Conversion Utility. Again this also failed to work.
I then reduced the number of photographs to about 4,500 (year 2014). I have noted by the way that this has had virtually no effect on the psa file size. As I gradually Deleted photos from the Catalog I have come across about 100 items which cannot be deleted and returns the following error message….
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
“[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Indicator variable required but not supplied on column number 10 (fDateTimeHigh)”
I have tried a number of ways to delete the photos including removing them from their folder; “Reconnecting the Missing File” with/without the same name in a different Folder; and generally getting myself very frustrated with my lack of knowledge. Googling/search for help and pointers hasn’t found the solution.
What or where can I find a way of deleting these errant files? (I have MS Access if this is a tool that might get me the solution.)
Note that one very old and small Catalog did convert and successfully integrated into Elements so it all works in principle. It seems to point to these problem jpgs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes. Thanks for your reply. Just shows my age doesn't it! I've really got to upgrade my system from Windows 3.1.
Still it lasted me for quite a few years over its various issues and wasn't a bad investment for me considering I think it was a magazine cover freebie, though I can't remember whether it was issued on 5" or 3" disks!!!
Interesting to note that conceptually the original design was quite good and together with the new face recognition technology which is as good if not better than Picasa the PSE13 Organiser does a good job. It's a pity Adobe doesn't promote more of this side of the product. I wasn't able to find the replacement to Album as it was starting to struggle as the photo count increased and I hadn't been able to find an obvious replacement. Still that's over now.
All I have to do now is to raise a query as to how to order/sort certain tags and it's a near perfect product for me. Can't find the answer in the Manual(s) or FAQs - or I'm not using the correct query key words.

  • PSE 8 - Coverting My Catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0

My free download PSE 8 begings the conversion of My Catalog (Photoshop Album 2.0) when only 6% of the way into the process it stops giving an error message; "Failed. Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it". Frankly I am not sure where to begin.
My entire catalog, only one by the way, was created with the Photoshop Album 2.0 application. In an attempt to identify what was in need of repair using the slideshow View over all of the photos in my catalog I did identify where some images' were not linked to the actual photo. Any such disconnect I have rectified and am able to view the entire slideshow without interruption suggesting that there is nothing to repair?
Our use of Photoshop Album 2.0 has been unsophisticated. We download our photos from camera/s mainly using the Photoshop application which automatically stores them in the Adobe sub-folder under My Pictures. We then move these into appropriately named separate folders and mapping them onto similarly named Collections within My Catalog. Here we edit and delete where necessary and also caption. Once that exercise is complete, to reduce storage, we go back to My Pictures and remove any duplication resulting from the editing process. As a final test we take a slideshow View of each collection to insure that there are no disconnect.
What can I try next? Is there any diagnostic tool within Elements 8 which can assist in identifying where we need to start with the repair job?

    Hi John
Despite successfully running Reconnect and Repair, PSE 8 is still unable to
convert My Catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0. The 'Problems converting
catalogs to PSE 6 or 7' notes suggests that I might need to first migrate to
Elements 5. Can I take you up on the offer find me a copy?
Actually John I may be making life unnecessarily difficult for myself. I
would like to upgrade my Adobe Photoshop software but have some thousands of
photos with captions. Is there a more simple way to migrate photos, edited
photos all with captions into PSE 8?
    Regards
    Neil

  • Hi. Migrated photos from Photoshop Album to Phtoshop Elements 13. Lost all tags Any ideas?

Hi. Migrated photos from Photoshop Album to Photoshop Elements 13. Lost all tags Any ideas?

I'm not sure but it sounds a lot like the question I posed to the forum a little later today.  It may be that the newer versions of PSE are not compatible with transfering all the Categories, Sub Categories and Tags from versions up to PSE 10.  I am presently using PSE 10 because I couldn't figure out how to save all the organization I have put into Elements over the past 10 years or so.
I'm hoping for an answer to my question.

  • PSE7 convert catalog from PASE 3.2

    Hi all,
I installed Photoshop Elements 7.0 (PSE7) and I am trying to import my catalog from Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 (PASE).
    After 15%, the conversion aborts.
The catalog works OK under PASE 3.2.
I have tried loading the .psa under MS Access and compressing it, then I still have the same conversion problem.
There is no error log, just a hint about "repairing/compressing" it in its original application. PASE does not have a repair/compress option :-(
My catalog is around 8800 photos.
I am completely desesperate and I needs some help/ideas to get my PASE catalog into PSE7 ...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi -
I had the same problem and I got it figured out.
First, I had problems with PASE where I could not add new photos - I would get an ODBC error.  The catalog worked fine, but couldn't add.  I think PASE has a 5000 image limit - because if I removed images from the catalog to get below 5000 I could add again.
Anyway, I switched to PSE 8 and could not import my catalog - it would get partway in and fail.  After some investigating I found that it was choking on images that had been edited (had an _edited name).  If I remove the edited images from the catalog (not from disk - I still have the images, just deleted them from the PASE catalog).
When running the import it creates a temp file in C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\Temp   The file is named pse-conversion-log_My Catalog-6.txt  (the 6 number changes with each import attempt).  Look at the last line in that file and it is the offending image.  REmove that one from the PASE catalog and try again.  Working through them one by one I got the whole catalog imported to PSE8.   It was tedious but worth the effort to preserve the tags.
    Hope this helps.

  • To change from Photoshop Album 2.0 to Photoshop Elements 12 can I do an upgrade or do I need full

to change from Photoshop album 2.0 to Photoshop Elements 12 can I do an upgrade or do I need to get the full verision

I don't think adobe offers an upgrade path from photoshop album 2.0, but you can find photoshop elements
12 cheaper at your local box store than even the adobe upgrade price.
They are both the full versions anyway.

  • How do I retrieve Photo's from Photoshop Album Starter Element 3.o ?

How do I retrieve Photos from Photoshop Album Starter Trial Edition 3.0 after the trial period has expired? I purchased Photoshop Elements 9 hoping I could use that to retrieve from Edition 3.0. No Luck!

The photos have never been stored in Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3. They are always stored on your hard disk somewhere, probably right where you put them when they came out of the camera. You need to search for them.

  • Import from Photoshop Album PSA to Lightroom (same in Elements?)

    Hi,
here my experience with the import from Photoshop Album to Lightroom.
    1. Tags and Collection import
    > OK
    2. Tagging of the imported images
    > NOT ALL of the imported pictures where Tagged!!!
This is really annoying, as you have no way to know it
    before you search for them.
    3. Import of the edited version of the pictures
    > When a picture as been edited in Album, only the ORIGINAL one
is imported in Lightroom, not the edited one.
    > At least, the edited one could have been imported with the original
    in a stack!!
Import functionality is crap for now if you ask me.
    What is your experience?
    Régis

Because I've used PSA, PS and now CS2 and 3 for years, I had really hoped--indeed, assumed--that LR would be an elegant and trouble-free solution with which to migrate a large and growing catalog away from the slowness and lack of view in PSA, as well as adding RAW-handling ability (since storage dropped through the floor, I shoot JPEG and RAW by default). While the LR interface is pretty and the fleur-de-lis whimsical, LR is in my admittedly-limited experience neither elegant nor trouble-free from a database perspective. Perhaps in a few versions it will be, but it isn't now. The PSA import was a joke, operations are slow, and despite preference settings, it fires up whenever I hook up anything which XP considers to be an external drive. I have since licensed a previously-installed demo copy of IMatch, which I'd been holding off doing based on my flased LR assumption. Importing PSA to IMatch requires some simple under-the-hood work in Access (there are posted routines to accomplish this), but once that was done the import was flawless, with all PSA tags in their own cubbyhole and associated with the proper images. Why Adobe didn't facilitate this is a real head-scratcher.

  • Importing Pictures and Tags from Photoshop Album 2.0 to IPhoto

I will be getting a new imac in a few days and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way I can import all my photos from Photoshop Album 2.0 to iphoto'08 without losing the tags I already created for each photo (pulling the tags in and having them automatically set up as Keywords)?

    Hi,
I've managed to transfer all my Photoshop Album (PSA) tags to iPhoto. At this (http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html) little webpage you can read how I did it and download the files you need. It's not very hard to do.
In short: the PSA "My Catalog.psa" file is a Microsoft Access file. It's easy to export the necessary data from it as XML. After that it's necessary to convert the binary references to the tags to readable references in the Images file. Then, generate an applescript that tells iPhoto what tags to add to which photo. Then, execute the applescript and you're done.
    I hope this helps,
    hhv.

  • Is it safe to upgrade from Photoshop Album to PSE8?

I developed a fairly large catalog in Photoshop Album (version 2 I think). I successfully converted it to a downloaded version of PSE7. But then someone told me about PSE8, so I downoaded that. It wouldn't accept my Album catalog, getting stuck and refusing to go on. Obviously I didn't want to have to re-create the catalog. So I scrapped PSE8 and have reverted, reasonably happily, to PSE7. Might I have done better with the bought CD version of PSE8?

I have tried to go from 2 to 8 and cant do it either, I dont think its possible..........see my help request today

  • Ugrade from Photoshop Album 3.2

Hello, I  still use Adobe Photoshop Album 3.2 Starter Edition and think of upgrading to Photoshop Elements. If I do so, is the database of Photoshop Album (Tags, Albums,...) still available and usable in Elements? Am I loosing information available in Photoshop Album? Is Elements offering all features of Photoshop Album?
    THX for Your answers

You can upgrade from Photoshop album 3.2 to Elements 11 successfully. No information gets lost in conversion process.

  • From Photoshop Album 1.0 to PSE 7.0 ??

I'm finally getting around to upgrading my laptop and now need to get my extensive tagged library of images (over 10,000) from Photoshop Album 1.0 (running on XP) to Photoshop Elements 7.0 (on Vista). I need to maintain all the tags! What can I do to get this done? I am prepared to purchase additional intermediate software to get this done if required - but I'm not really sure where to start. Can someone on this forum help, or direct me to somewhere I can find out?
    Many thanks in advance,

  • Synch to iPad from Photoshop Album

When I synch photos to iPad using Photoshop Album not all my photos synch. They were all taken with teh same camera & are the same size. I thought maybe the ones I edited were not synching, but that's not so. I have 63 photos in an album adn only 34 synch. The ones that synch appear entirely arbitrary, though there are no verticals.

  • Help me import images from Photoshop into a Premiere Elements project!

How do I add photos from Photoshop to existing Premire Elements project.

If you have edited the Images in Photoshop, just Save_As PSD (or TIFF). Set the Still Duration to the desired time, in PrE's Edit>Preferences. Then, Import them into PrE. From the Project Panel, just drag the Image(s) to the Timeline, and to an appropriate Video Track. Say, if you want to place the Image between Clips, just drag it there, and the rest of the Clips/Images on that Video Track will Ripple.
If you want to replace parts of a Clip, with that Image, just hold down Ctrl/Cmd and drag to the appropriate location.
If you want to overlay it, with an existing Clip, just place it onto a higher Video Track. Note: this yields the same general result, as the method above.
I strongly suggest that you Scale your Image in Photoshop, to match, or nearly so, the Frame Size of your Project's Preset.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt
