Converting claris draw and Macdraw files

For those who come here asking about how to use your claris draw and macdraw files in OS X, here's another option for converting them. Intaglio from Purgatory Software claims to be able to open those files ( for macdraw I think it's just II/Pro files). Haven't tried it myself. (For anyone who has Freeway, I believe there is a discount on Intaglio, although it is still an expensive option if you aren't looking for a drawing program, too.)

How can I transfer older Claris Works and AppleWorks files to new iMac. I use Pages, and MacWord, Excel, etc. as well.

I have a new iMac using Pages and Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. for mac. I'd like to transfer older ClarisWorks and AppleWorks files to my new computer. Can this be done?

Additionally, Numbers can read/open spreadsheets. However, anything done in the drawing/painting part cannot be read by any application - you would have to export those (on the old machine) as a .jpg or pdf. You could then open them, but no longer edit or change the content.

Installed Lion yesterday and now have no way to open Apple Works draw and paint files.

Anyone have suggestions?

Gene, those are incredibly old applicaitons that were based on PPC (Power PC) versions of OS X. Beginning with Lion legacy apps that are PPC based are no longer supported. There are numerous tools availalbe however you will need to do a little legwork to find what you want. I would recommend using Google and search using "Appleworks draw and paint replacements Lion" and you will find a lot of hits. Once you have located one that will import your legacy files then you should be all set.

How Do I *Stop* Quattro Pro from Converting Access and Excel Files?

Ever since I installed WordPerfect 7, I've had periodic difficulties of having stored Excel files open in Quattro Pro. Normally, I can easily correct that by retrieving the files from within Excel. But now a more difficult problem has presented
itself. Yesterday, I tried exporting an Access file into Excel and Quattro Pro opened. Short of deleting Quattro Pro is there anyone I can stop it from trying to convert my Excel and Access files?

IE. What's a fellow to do? I've tried uninstalling Internet Explorer and beginning with a cold boot; but, nothing seems to work. So, at least until I can find a solution to that problem, I guess I'm stuck with Firefox. Sigh.

Convert .AVF and .AVR files from satelite receiver to .TS files

I am the owner of a Mac OS X 10.4.9 and a Echostar PVR 5020 satelite receiver. I like to burn a DVD of a programme saved on the hard disk of the satelite receiver. Via a USB connection I can connect my MAC with the receiver and copy the saved files. But till now I have not been able to find converion software and or some kind of hardware that enables me to convert the .AVF and .AVR files from Echostar to video .TS files. Please advise how to solve this.

I looks like the AVF and AVR formats are privately used by EchoStar and not supported by anyone else. You will need to check with EchoStar to see if they can supply software to convert these formats. I supose there is a good possibilty the don't want you to be able to convert such files.
Anyway, there is nothing we can do in this forum to help you. Good luck.

What is the best way to load and convert data from a flat file?

Hi,
I want to load data from a flat file, convert dates, numbers and some fields with custom logic (e.g. 0,1 into N,Y) to the correct format.
The rows where all to_number, to_date and custom conversions succeed should go into table STG_OK. If some conversion fails (due to an illegal format in the flat file), those rows (where the conversion raises some exception) should go into table STG_ERR.
What is the best and easiest way to archive this?

I gave them a thought and came up with two different alternatives:
Alternative 1
I load the data from the flat file into a staging table using sqlldr. I convert the data to the target format using sqlldr expressions.
The columns of the staging table have the target format (date, number).
The rows that cannot be loaded go into a bad file. I manually load the data from the bad file (without any conversion) into the error table.
Alternative 2
The columns of the staging table are all of type varchar2 regardless of the target format.
I define data rules for all columns that require a later conversion.
I load the data from the flat file into the staging table using external table or sqlldr without any data conversion.
The rows that cannot be loaded go automatically into the error table.
When I read the data from the staging table, I can safely convert it since it is already checked by the rules.
What I dislike in alternative 1 is that I manually have to create a second file and a second mapping (ok, I can automate this using OMB*Plus).
Further, I would prefer using expressions in the mapping for converting the data.
What I dislike in alternative 2 is that I have to create a data rule and a conversion expression and then keep the data rule and the conversion expression in sync (in case of changes of the file format).
I also would prefer to have the data in the staging table in the target format. Well, I might load it into a second staging table with columns having the target format. But that's another mapping and a lot of i/o.
As far as I know I need the data quality option for using data rules, is that true?
Is there another alternative without any of these drawbacks?
Otherwise I think I will go for alternative 1.

Opening a new file in photoshopcc and the file name is displayed but no white working canvas. you can see it as a layer in the layers panel and if i draw on the grey area i can see int on the layer but not on the main screen.

I plugged my old drive into an identical Vostro and saved my bookmarks per the instructions. Later, when I check the file, it was in html format. While waiting for the replacement laptop to arrive, I put my old (Vostro) hard drive into a case so I could access the files. I have been able to launch web pages from the file bt accessing them through My Documents so I know the file is good. The problem is, I apparently need to convert them into a JSON file in order to use them. There is a set of instructions on the Mozilla/Firefox website but that method does not work.

I Paid for PDF Export and the files are not converting correctly

I purchased PDF Export to take a PDF file and convert it to a text file so I could import it into excel, when doing so I get a bunch of extra symbles plus the numbers that i'm trying to convert are not complete.

Could you try disabling the 'Recognize text' function and convert the file again?
