Converting .cwk files

A friend of mine gave me a couple of Apple Works (.CWK) files which were created in Aug 2002, and asked me if I could convert them such that they could be read by let's say TexEdit in 10.6.2.
The only Apple Works that I still have is Apple Works 4.0, which will not load with 10.6.2. Would really appreciate any suggestions/workarounds to convert these files. Thank you all!

AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000, so the chances are those are AppleWorks 6 files. All AppleWorks/ClarisWorks files have the .cwk extension, so it's difficult to determine what kind of AppleWorks files they are. Yvan Koenig did write an AppleScript that would tell you. AppleWorks 6.2.x works in OS X, including Snow Leopard.
If they are word processing or spreadsheets, you could use the iWork '09 trial or the trials of icWord & icExcel by Panergy Software to open them. With icWord/icExcel you would have to copy & paste the data into another kind of document. Also, MacLink Plus by DataViz (no trial & expensive) can open them.
If it's only a couple of files, e-mail them to me & I will convert them & send them back.

What is the last OS which would convert cwk files to AppleWorks?

I'm still trying to convert some old ClarisWorks documents. Presently working with iMac 27" (intel) OS 10.9.2, Mavericks, but I am unable to open these old WP documents.

Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available - the newPages 5 (Mavericks required) does not open AppleWorks documents. Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.2 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames). The latest version of the free LibreOffice has announced that it can open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents and an ability to open ClarisWorks documents has been reported: it does appear to be able to handle at least some embedded images.
If you have upgraded to Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks and have AppleWorks documents you cannot open, then you should be able to install Snow Leopard on an external hard disk and start from that (provided that the Mac did not come with anything higher than Snow Leopard originally installed); and success has been reported in running Snow Leopard Server under emulation in Parallels - the method is described here: Snow Leopard Server is available in the Apple Store (by telephone) at a reduced price (at the time of writing) and is preferable to using ordinary Snow Leopard which is quite tricky. I haven't tried this myself: use at your own discretion. You can then run AppleWorks as an emergency measure.

What is a good way to convert and open a .cwk file?

Trying to convert and open a .cwk file. Pretty sure it's an old ClarisWorks file but I got it as an attachment in an email and my iPhone mail won't allow me to open it AT ALL...Please, Help...

All AppleWorks (& ClarisWorks) files will have the .cwk extension. The iWork applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files.
Since you're running Tiger you can run AppleWorks 5 or 6 as well as earlier versions of ClarisWorks in Classic. If you don't have AppleWorks, I recommend getting AppleWorks 6.2.4 which will open .cwk files & save the presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents as something the iWork apps can open.

I'm concerned about my mac dying and all my documents being in .cwk files because i use appleworks for most of my writing stuff.
If i had to revert to a cheap pc laptop and windows, could i access my backed up (on dvd) .cwk files by any method ?
I'm imagining
- either it's a universal file type
- i could change the extention to a txt file or a .doc file
Could someone explain what i would need to do ?

i got appleworks 6.2.4 & office 2004
i opened your applescript - double click
choose 'run' as i couldnt figure out the application bit
Ran it on a .cwk file in a folder by choosing the folder in 'run'.
I get a message box:
WP - NO TRANSLATION
SS - NO TRANSLATION
DB - NO TRANSLATION
GR - NO TRANSLATION
I choose 'ok'
An empty 'wasBOBO_nowOffice' folder is created
An untitled .cwk file is created which says:
"Unsaved files. ### Not copied ### hard drive:Users:didiertickell:Desktop:untitled folder:_LOVEFILM RECS copy.cwk"
I open the original .cwk file i wanted to convert and re-save it to 'wasBOBO_nowOffice' folder
by selecting the option to save it as a word / windows 97 2000 xp 2002
A mac plus link box saves it
It saves a an rtf file and opens in text edit
Any advice.....?

Convert .cwk to .xls

AppleWorks 6 files are no longer supported on Mac OS 10.7. I have lots of old .cwk files I need to convert to .xls files. What is the best solution?

Or install Appleworks on your G5. You can't use 10.7 on a G5 anyway. Put it in Target Mode once you are done with the conversion. To put the G5 in Target mode, boot it with the T key. Then attach it with a Firewire cable to your newer Mac.

CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer

Could someone please tell me if I can convert a CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer. I have tried opening the word document and going to the 'open' options etc but this still won't open the CWK file.
Is there something else I can do to open the files or convert them to pdf?

It seems this is an old Apple Words document. A Google search revealed https://www.google.com/search?q=cwk+files&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:I E-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=ssl that Word will not do this natively. I was able to see a couple of converters, and it also provided info that LibreOffice, a free open source Office program can open them with exceptions.

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
Do cleanup.

Acrobat 9 Pro converting multimedia files in PDF Portfolio

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and it says that it can convert multimedia files in a PDF portfolio
but when I try to convert wmv files in gives me a conversion error. The user's guide clearly outlines that this program can convert multimedia files - MOV, AVI and WMV files to PDF files within a PDF Portfolio. Am I missing something? Why won't this work?

You have not indicated what version of AA9 or OS you have. The current version is 9.5.5. You can do updates from the Help menu usually. If that fails, download updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install them in order.

Sign in with your Adobe ID and password, and then convert your word doc into PDF.
Please let me know if that works.
If you have Adobe Reader, you cannot convert .doc file to .PDF by drag and drop.

Convert multiple files (word docs) to multiple pdf

Hi,
Is there a script I can use in batch processing to convert about 1500 word documents into pdf? I know it's possible to convert multiple files into one pdf, but this is no good to me. Doing these conversions one by one is going to take forever!
I've tried selecting a few documents at a time and then selecting "convert to pdf" from the right-click menu, but each one requires that you tell it where to save, and then opens the file when it is done.
I need to convert Word files on a regular basis for work, and could really use a batch process for this with so many to do!
I have Acrobat 7 Pro (version 7.1.0) on XP Pro SP 2 at work, and Acrobat 8 Pro (Version 8.1.2) on XP Pro SP 3 at home.
If there is anyway it's possible to do this via a batch process I would really appreciate knowing how!!

I have Acrobat 9 Pro. I can batch convert Word docs to PDFs by doing this:
1. Open Acrobat Pro. Click File > Create PDF > Batch Create Multiple Files...
2. A window will open prompting you to add files. Click Add Files > Add Files... OR Add Folders... If adding a folder, navigate to it, and click OK to add it to the list. You can also select a bunch of files and drag & drop them into the Add Files window.
3. Once you have all the files listed that you want to convert, click OK. A new window called Output Options will open. In this window, select your preferred settings. For me, I want all the new PDFs to have the same filename and be in the same folder as the Word docs, so I choose these settings:
4. Click OK, and then the batch process will begin running. You will see Word opening and closing. However, you won't have to click Save or anything. You can run it unattended. The process takes a little while, so I usually set up a batch to run, then go to lunch. Once finished, you should have all your new PDFs:
