Converting Developer 6i forms and reports

I am new born to Application Express can any one help me in this regard that whether converting Developer 6i forms into Application Express is possible.
Any concrete resource on this.
Thanks.

Some things that are simple to implement in Oracle Forms are a nightmare to replicate in APEX. I am pretty sure some things that are easy in APEX are difficult in Oracle Forms.
For example it is pretty easy in Oracle Forms to have a module with a Master Block with several related Detail Blocks in separate tabs below - but in APEX an absolute nightmare, only one updateable SQL query per page (tabular detail update region), tabs are per page and not on a region. I have seen people asking in this Forum how to implement this Master with Multiple Details but the responses become as common as hen's teeth.
Layout of interface items in APEX is a bit hit and miss as it uses HTML tables/rows/cells etc. compared to the exact x,y pixel you can use in Oracle Forms Layout Editor.

  • Can Developer 6i(Forms and Reports) be installed on Vista

    Can Developer 6i(Forms and Reports) be installed on Vista??
    If yes, then which version?
    Please answer..........

    Hello,
    Developer 6i can be installed on XP/NT/2000 but not on vista, you can try and see if get lots of errors. You can also try installing latest developer suite (10.1.2.0.2) but once again you might face some issue but it worth trying.

  • Is there any impact analysis tool for Oracle Forms and Reports

    Hi All
    We are curretly looking at tools available to do impact analysis in Oracle Forms and Reports. This is for the maintainance of a large Oracle application developed using forms and reports 10g. We use Oracle Designer but only to maintain the db structure and not for forms and reports generation. Our intension is to find out the impact of db model changes, stored procedure changes in Oracle Forms and Reports. Please suggest any tools that are currently used for this purpose.
    I remember manually maintaining the CRUD matrix for Oracle Forms and Reports for maintainance purpose. CRUD matrix will have the list of all the tables which are affected by the module. But this is a manual activity and hence the responsibility is with the dev team to keep the document updated. Please suggest if there is any alternative to this way which can be more effecient and less error prone...
    I also wonder how these are done in Oracle ERP? how the apps team in oracle is maintaining the forms and reports?
    Thnaks in Advance

    Quest (the makers of TOAD) have a tool called SQL Impact which gathers data from forms, reports, triggers, packages etc.
    FormsMate is a simple, cheap alternative for comparing or searching in forms.
    http://www.jockvale.ca/products.html
    Alternatively, you can export forms to xml (with iff2xml90.bat) and reports to jsp (with rwconverter) and simply grep those and your sql scripts. There are grep tools for windows if you need.

  • Deploying Forms and Reports on Linux

    We are using Forms and Reports 6i in Client/Server mode in
    Windows with all of our clients for years now with
    complete success.
    Most of these clients are small to medium size organizations
    and don't have the resources or need to upgrate to 9iAS with all
    the costs and complexities involved.
    Now there is a demand to run these applications in Linux at
    the client side, i.e. they want to put Linux machines at
    the users desktops.
    We noticed that there is a Linux version of Forms and Reports
    in OTN and would like to try it, but we are concerned about
    if the product is really suported by Oracle : There seems to
    be no documentation, white papers or patches available.
    Can please someone comment on this? Can we develop our forms and
    reports in Windows and deploy then with the Linux runtime ?
    Deployment with 9iAS is not an option.
    Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestion

    Hi Goncalo,
    There is no reason why this should not work on Linux, and there are patches available for Linux. The latest patch for Linux (patch 11, which is the latest Forms 6i patch) was released Sept 6th, 2002.

    Designer/2000 Template Package VERSION 3.4.1
    Now we want to migrate to Oracle 9i(web enabled)

    2)What about the templates and packages on the 2000 Headstart version.Is it necessary to migrate the same to 9i also?
    2)In case the repository has also to be migrated how do i go about migration to 9i??
    4)In case the headstart template/packages to be migrated how do i migrate to 9i?
    5)Where is the documentation available for headstart?
    Kindly help..

    Hi 23768 ( ;-) ),
    There is a whole wealth on information regarding upgrade/migration of headstart generated application systems.
    What you need is a licence on iDevelopment Accellerators and the Supplement Option (cso.oracle.com) to download this material.
    Contact your Oracle Consulting representative if you would like to know how to do this.

  • Converting forms and reports to 10g

    I am converting both forms and reports from 6i to 10g. Most of the reports work fine, however I am having problems with a few of them. When I run the reports from a URL, they run fine. However, when I try and call them from the forms, I get a REP-188: Reports Server only accepts batch jobs error message. I have looked around for information on what could cause this, but have only found the following:
    How to use the BATCH commandline parameter when moving from RWCLI60 (6i) to RWCLIENT (9i) ?
    When using RWCLIENT and the BATCH parameter is passed, the value always has to be YES. The Reports Server only accept batch jobs and cannot handle interactive requests in Oracle9i Reports. If you are passing BATCH=NO you will get an error: REP-188: Reports Server only accept batch jobs
    I don't specify BATCH=NO anywhere, so am unsure of what is causing this problem.
    We are using Mode=Batch, Destype=Cache for all 20 reports that are run from forms. 6 out of the 20 give us the REP-188 error. We have also tried Mode=Runtime, but this does not help.
    Please advise.

    I'm not in a position YET to help you work out a solution. But I propose a trade.
    If you can help me get my reports server going (see my post of today 19th) then I promise to help investigate your problem.

  • Developer - Forms and Reports 11g?

    Hi,
    We have recently installed application server 11g and developers are asking me for the developer 11g software to go with the forms and reports. Looking at the oracle website they have changed things, there is no longer a Developer 11g, and I'm having trouble establishing what I need to download and install so the developers can develop forms and reports in 11g. Can someone tell me what I need to grab from the oracle site and roughly how to install it? It's all a bit new to me.
    Thanks

  • Do Oracle Developer Suite contains Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?

    Dear All,
    I am having Oracle Developer Suite 10g.
    Using that i can design and test Oracle reports.
    Then do i need Oracle Application Server with Forms and Reports to deploy it?
    Do Developer Suite contains Application Server with Forms and Reports?
    How to test whether the report will run inside an application server?
    If i am having Developer Suite and still do i need to install Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?
    DO revert.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Sameer

    Hi Sameer,
    Q1 Iam having Oracle Developer Suite 10g.
    Using that i can design and test Oracle reports.
    Then do i need Oracle Application Server with Forms and Reports to deploy it?
    Yes you need Oracle Application Server to deploy forms /reports.There are 2 types . One containing only forms and reports services
    Two containing forms, reports services, portal and many
    other product services.
    So if you want to deploy only forms and reports then choose the first one
    Q2 Do Developer Suite contains Application Server with Forms and Reports?
    No. It contains a light component called OC4j. With this u can test the forms and reports in browser
    Q3How to test whether the report will run inside an application server?
    If you test it with developer suite, it should run fine with AS
    Q4 If i am having Developer Suite and still do i need to install Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?
    Pls note that Developer suite doesnt have any AS. And it has a light weight OC4J which is only for testing purpose. So u need to have AS for the deployment.

  • How instal developer (forms and reports ) on Apple Mac

    I want to install oracle 6i forms and report on Apple Mac note book. how i and where i can download developer installer for MAC OS.
    Thanks

    Apple Mac is not a suitable platform to install oracle products. You can take a look at the Oracle Certify Matrix and you can build up your own conclusions.
    In this case, use your Apple Mac for documentation, get a Microsoft Windows Based platform, and choose a certified platform.

  • Converting Forms and Reports 6i into Jdeveloper

    Can we convert Forms and Reports 6i into Jdeveloper? If yes then
    please give me the detail. Thanks.

    I have read on Metalink:
    MS Windows XP Professional certification: XP is currently not certified or supported on any release of Designer/SCM (Awaiting other related (IDS) products certification).
    Maybe the problem is caused by this.

  • Problem hiding userid etc in cookie using 10.1.2.0.2 Forms and Reports

    Hi
    Background
    I am new to 10.1.2.0.2 Forms and Reports and also to Application Server - though not to Oracle forms and reports. We are currently converting from 6i.
    Due to security concerns we would very much like to use the FrmReportsInteg Bean (or like) to hide userid connect string in a temporary and encrypted cookie when trying to run a report from a form (and the report has a report parameter screen that we want to display).
    Firstly I have to decide how we are going to use reports via the Developer Suite -for development work. Then I have to work out how to do it via the Application Server - for testing and production. So if you have two variations of any solutions - one for DS and one for AS, could you give both please?
    Problem
    Problem is that I cannot get the bean to work. I get report parameter form displaying ok, hit submit and then get the Database User Authentication window poppling up with the "REP-51018: Need database user authentication" error that I've noticed a few other people in this forum have had too. If the user id etc is then entered in this window, the report parameter form redisplays (from a second html) and submitting this causes the report to display. Don't like the Database User Authentication window poppling up and don't like the second parameter form - html for this has the userid etc in it.
    For me though I can't even get the bean to output any logs. Got any ideas to help me at least output some logs?
    Also do I have to do anything to the browser (IE6) to get it to read the cookies?
    Do I need to change the bean code for the DS in some way - eg to avoid using domain name (as I noticed in another thread)?
    My code exactly follows the whitepaper and I also carefully followed the instructions for adding the bean to the form and configuring the forms services - as per white paper.
    Looking forward to some answers

  • How do you extract SQL from Oracle Forms and Reports files?

    I am developing an "as is" data model for a government client for a 14 year old system that has three databases, 20 schemas, over 1500 tables, and over 23,000 columns. Needless to say, I do not plan to perform a manual mapping of data to screens and reports.
    Most of the system has been developed in Oracle Forms and Reports. I am trying to map the live tables and columns to forms and reports.
    The process here has been to save the forms and reports files as .fmb and .rdf files. The client does not have an available copy of Oracle Designer, which I understand could be used to extract the SQL.
    Is there a utility somewhere that can parse the .fmb and .rdf files to extract the SQL?
    Thanks,
    Jim Gearing

    Jim,
    I don't know of any utility that will do this. You can convert and save each fmb as a fmt so you can view/search the contents , but I don't recommend that approach.
    On the other hand, you download a copy of Oracle Designer:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html
    It usually is included with Oracle Forms and Reports.

  • Forms and report questions

    Hi,
    I am facing 2 issues now related to forms and reports
    I am using forms 10.1.2.3
    We have an old form developed a few years back and it used to work with the old application server.
    But when we migrated to vista, the application server port is changed and hence the URL
    Now the first issue:
    1)When running a report from the form (After giving some values in the form, a button is pressed to run the report), it is returning an error:
    FRM-41213:Unable to conenct to the Report server "Myrepserver"
    So in the assumption that the server name must have been hard-coded in the form, and hoping to change it to the new server name,
    I checked the when-button-trigger code in the form, but now I am unable to figure out where (which part in the form) the server name is defined.
    Need help in this one first:
    The code in the when-button-trigger is as shown below:
    DECLARE
         plid paramlist;
         the_param varchar2(15) := 'tmpdata';
         v_process varchar2(10);
    BEGIN
         If (:RADIO_GROUP31 in('ROD_REP','RSLB_REP','GEO_IMP','LBL_IMP')
                       And :FILENAME4 IS NULL ) Then
                       Message('A Filename is required to run the selected report');
                       Raise FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;
      Elsif (:RADIO_GROUP31 in('OPT_RUN','SDF_RUN')
                       And :DELIVERY_OFFICE_ID4 IS NULL ) Then
                       Message('A Delivery Office Id is required to run the selected report');
                       Raise FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;
      End If;
      v_process := :RADIO_GROUP31;
         BEGIN
              plid := get_parameter_list(the_param);
         IF NOT id_null(plid) THEN
              destroy_parameter_list(plid);
         END IF;
         plid := create_parameter_list(the_param);
         add_parameter(plid, 'delivery_office_id', TEXT_PARAMETER,:DELIVERY_OFFICE_ID4);
         add_parameter(plid, 'filename', TEXT_PARAMETER,:FILENAME4);
         add_parameter(plid, 'p_opt_batch_id', TEXT_PARAMETER,:OPT_BATCH_ID);
         add_parameter(plid, 'p_sum_det', TEXT_PARAMETER,:SUM_DET_PB);
         add_parameter(plid, 'process', TEXT_PARAMETER,v_process);
         add_Parameter(plid, 'PARAMFORM', TEXT_PARAMETER, 'NO');
         run_product(REPORTS,'approcrep.rdf',SYNCHRONOUS,RUNTIME,FILESYSTEM,plid,null  );
         END;
    END; 2)I am using a Windows Vista machine and using Sun's plugin JRE5 update 16 in my machine to run the forms through my browser(IE7)
    It works fine when connecting to my applicatioon server
    For example,
    http://the_app_server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=testapp
    works fine
    But when I try to run the form locally using the form builder:
    I have defined in Edit->Preferences (Under runtime tab), the application server URL,like this:
    http://<my local computer name>:8889/forms/frmservlet
    When trying to run , it asks me to install Jinitiator
    why is this?
    I even tried installing it but when starting the applet, the IE crashes and closes.
    With these conditions, how will I figure out why the report is not running?
    I am not able to debug as well because I am unable to run the form.
    Edited by: Krithi on 06-Jul-2009 01:55

    hi gregor13, Thanks a lot for the second suggestion, it worked and I am able to run the form locally now
    For the first suggestion, you are right, this is what caused the issue.
    But I am still not able to do the report successfully..I am able to open the report but no data appears..
    I have defined a parameter list called plid
    In the original run_product built in, this parameter list was passed.
    Please let me know how can I implement this using the web.show_document.
    My code is below, which works except no parameter is passed.I need help in this one please.

    BEGIN
         If (:RADIO_GROUP31 in('ROD_REP','RSLB_REP','GEO_IMP','LBL_IMP')
                       And :FILENAME4 IS NULL ) Then
                       Message('A Filename is required to run the selected report');
                       Raise FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;

              destroy_parameter_list(plid);
         END IF;
