Converting doc to pdf via Adobe Converter printer

I have Acrobat Standard 8.1.5 and for some reason I suddenly can no longer convert a document to pdf by "printing it to Adobe PDF converter in the Printer and Fax folder (Windows Vista).
I am not sure what has changed but I used to be able to do it.
Any ideas greatly received

If you can print to file with the Adobe PDF printer and complete the conversion to PDF by opening that file in Distiller, then check your background tasks for AcroTray. AcroTray is necessary to automate the conversion process.

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

I don't understand.  I use Google Docs to write letters & other forms, then convert them to PDFs using Adobe Acrobat.  If Forms Central closes, will I still be able to do this?

Adobe also has Acrobat.com and there is DropBox.com. Adobe has also announced Adobe Document Cloud.
Forms central provide a subscription service for users with Reader to create simple forms. Apparently this did not meet a majority of users and with the minimal price difference for Acrobat and free web storage the users were better served without it. I expect cloud services will continue to emerge until providers better and more fully understand the user requirements.

  • Error in converting *.doc to *.pdf

Running winXP home sp2, adobe pro 7.1.0
    This problem has started suddenly.
When converting *.doc to *.pdf a window titled AcroDist.exe-Application Error comes up:
"0x00441ae2" referenced memory at "0x0218ebbc". The memory could not be "read".
Acrobat stops and can only be stopped from the Task Manager. Try to print something in *.pdf -- same thing happens.
Anyone, any suggestions? I would be thankful.

    Gloria Mc,
This occurs with all .doc, Excel, .rtf, .txt (even when trying to print .pdf from a txt software like notepad. It does not occur with picture format files like .jpg or .tiff. I also can combine .pdf files.
As far as JR's question, if I generate a .prn file and drop it in AcroDist (Distiller), it tries to open Distiller and the same error message comes up.
All other functions of AA7 seem to work, only when trying to convert document files to .pdf is there a problem.
If I try to bring up Distiller by itself (no file), the same error occurs.
I'm still willing to try any suggestions. Thanks for your interest.

  • Is it possible to convert .doc to pdf  ?

    Hi..
I am very new to Livecycle Workflow...! I just want to know whether it is possible to convert .doc to pdf  ?
Just by googling i came to know that CreatePDF2 Service will do this Conversion ! But it throws me an Exception like "Conversion Exception :" Cannot connect to Adobe Service "...!
Can u guys pls help me out to slove the problem ?
    Thanks & Regards
    Karthik.

you don't know the format of a word doc? well, that's good for you because it's a nightmare.
    - check POI (http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html) to see if you can load-up the .doc then generate the .pdf with iText
    - personally i use the Open Office Bean to open the .doc, i save it in .sxw (OO format which is a jar of different XML files), then i use XSLT to transform content.xml in .fo then use FOP to build the PDF. sounds crazy but works fine (only on a machine with graphic support - not via Telnet, etc...)

Unable to print doc as .pdf with Adobe reader XI in windows 7. Tried uninstalling the software and also repair with same result. When clicked on print doc the option to print as .pdf cannot be seen. It just does not appear in the printer option. Help pls.

Acrobat has NEVER been free. Reader (formerly called "Acrobat Reader") has always been free, but the Creation/Editing software has always had a price tag.

  • Can't convert .doc to .pdf using Acrobat 9.4.3.

    Guys,
Last night for some reason Acrobat 9 suddenly stopped converting any MS Word .docs to .pdfs.  It gives me the following message:
Acrobat could not open 'XYZ.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications.
I swear it was working earlier. So I checked for an update and it gave me 9.4.3 so I updated and it didn't fix the problem.  I also tried several different files and got the same message.
    I'm using OS 10.6.7 Acrobat 9.4.3 and MS Word 11.3.5 (2004).
    Thanks,
    Solan

What version of Word do you Have?
Word 2004 if you had Acrobat as well the PDFmaker menu bar was installed by Acrobat you could convert a .doc Document to PDF.  It required the use of VBA and and a Macro which created the PDFMaker menu.  I was Secretary and Treasurer of an association for 30 years and I converted many a 2004 Word Document to PDF using PDFMaker.
You still had the same problems with word converted to PDF as today. If there are any section Breaks or Page breaks the pdfs were broken up into pieces you have to put back together.
I still have some .Doc files from early 2006 and with Office 2011, I opened one, and just saved it as a Pdf no trouble. I didn't convert it and didn't save it as a Docx.
I simply went to Save as and chose  PDF.
And I also went to Print menu> PDF> adobe quality PDF.  and was able to make a PDF.
Also I just went to print menu > PDF and just chose PDF which makes an Apple version of PDF.
I don't know where anyone got the idea you can't make a PDF from a Doc File.  Maybe in a future version That doesn't read doc. but for now

  • Problem while converting doc to PDF

Hi - When tried to convert a doc file to PDF, it introduced spaces between word characters in the result PDF file.
For e.g. "Project" became "Pro    ject"
But when used Print to PDF it worked fine.
Can somebody please help me to understand why conversion from doc to PDF file introduces spaces in between? Is this an existing bug in Adobe?
Your inputs will be very helpful.

  • Can no longer convert DOC to PDF

I've been using Acrobat 6 Pro for years to convert Microsoft Word (2003) DOCs to PDFs.  After a power failure, some of my Adobe products had to be repaired and re-registered.  On the other side of this procedure, I seem to have lost the conversion function.  When I click the right mouse button over a DOC file I still get an option of converting the file, but nothing happens.  How can I restore this function?  (my Acrobat 6 Pro was part of the Adobe Creative Suite Premium package).

But can you print to the Adobe PDF printer? Please check. This is the base of all the conversions in Acrobat and if it does not work, none of them work. If it works, then you need to check for the Adobe icons (toolbar) in WORD to be active. It has to be active to be able to use PDF Maker. But again, the basic process is really the printer and should be the first thing you check.

  • Converting DOC to PDF - will not open

I have the Adobe creative suite 4 Design Standard, and with that comes Adobe Acrobat Pro ( I updated the newest version 9.2.0). I have been using this program for two years and have never had any issues. Then my computer was stolen last week, I got my CD's and serial number and uploaded the Adobe CS4 to my new MAC OSX 10.6.7 computer and have had several issues. The first most major issue is that when I convert word DOC to PDF (either by "saving as" or by "print as PDF" both do the same thing) and it will show as though it saves to my desktop, but then when I click on the PDF it will not open. Just a blank document - and it is a very small document under 1 MB there is no reason why it shouldn't be working. On my old Mac I never had any issues with this and now I am. The Adobe service center said they charge to answer me because its not the newest version of CS5. Worthless.... can someone help?? I would be SO greatful! thanks.

There are problems with fonts and pdfs in OS X.6.7. Also Acrobat 9.2 is not the latest version of Acrobat. Try updating to Acrobat 9.4.3.

  • Error converting DOC to PDF, corrupt table

    Hello,
Using XP, MS Word 2003, Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro.
Trying to convert a 15MB doc to pdf.  After 14 minutes, I get a MS Word error, "This error message may be the result of a corrupt table in the current document. You can recover the contents..."  The steps for recovery involves "open & repair", which is an option that I can't find (maybe MS Word 2007?)
If I take the original doc & compress the photos to reduce the file size to about 11MB, then the PDF is ok.  I can also split up the doc into two documents.  Each part converts ok, then I can combine them.  Both options works, but both are time consuming.  (So I'm not buying the "corrupt table" error.)
I have other doc's that convert ok.  One is 29MB and converts in 2 minutes.  The difference that I can note is that the 15MB doc uses primary nothing but text boxes for the entire doc.  Text & photos are inserted into each text box.  A dozen of these are smaller than 11MB & will convert, but very slowly.  Over that size & I get the above error.
I can't change Word Doc format. (customer's requirements)
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks
    Mike

There has been a change with AA9 that does the create PDF option a bit differently than before. I am not sure of the details, but if you are assuming the same process as I will describe you will at least have an idea of what is happening. In prior versions of Acrobat, there are basically 2 conversion processes. The right click in explorer to convert and opening the file in Acrobat both go back to the create PDF process in WORD, so let me just describe the WORD process. When you print to the Adobe PDF printer, then you are simply doing a conversion (or print) just like you would to paper. Excluding the printer metric issues with WORD (2007 turns these off by default), you should get a replica of the WORD file in appearance. Choices include down sampling the graphics and embedding the fonts, both of which are recommended. These are part of the printer properties.
The end result of the print is effectively an electronic paper version of your original file. It is not recommended for editing (except for form fields and such), in just the same way it is preferred to not use whiteout on a typed paper version. The process of creating this print file is a two step process where a PS file is created (can be very memory intensive) and then the PS file is put through Distiller in the background to create the PDF (these require AcroTray to be active to do this automatically).
PDF Maker (create PDF) adds several features to the file, but it is only available in selected applications like MS OFFICE. These features are added by including PDF Marks in the PS file created in the print process. You can include bookmarks, links, and tags for accessibility (tags tend to really bloat the file big time). The items to be included are in the preferences of PDF Maker in the application. It is also a good idea to use the Standard job settings as a minimum, but I typically recommend print or press options. I use a job settings file provided by a publisher that is optimize for journal publication.
The fact that PDF Maker adds all the extra bits is likely why you are having problems. You can try turning all the added features off and then go back and add only the ones you need. That may help your situation. Keep in mind that graphics will be expanded (are not compressed) when sent to the PS file -- causing a huge file in some cases. The temporary storage is limited by your TEMP folder and not by the size of your hard disk and that is the route of the problem for large files.
As I said, PDF Maker has apparently changed a bit for AA9, but the idea is likely similar.

Install Acrobat. This provides two mechanisms for PDF creation. (1) PDFMaker. (2) the Adobe PDF virtual printer.
--|  PDF, Print but no Edit.
You could password protect the PDF. Be aware that non-Adobe products may not respect this.
