Converting DOC to PDF - will not open

I have the Adobe creative suite 4 Design Standard, and with that comes Adobe Acrobat Pro ( I updated the newest version 9.2.0). I have been using this program for two years and have never had any issues. Then my computer was stolen last week, I got my CD's and serial number and uploaded the Adobe CS4 to my new MAC OSX 10.6.7 computer and have had several issues. The first most major issue is that when I convert word DOC to PDF (either by "saving as" or by "print as PDF" both do the same thing) and it will show as though it saves to my desktop, but then when I click on the PDF it will not open. Just a blank document - and it is a very small document under 1 MB there is no reason why it shouldn't be working. On my old Mac I never had any issues with this and now I am. The Adobe service center said they charge to answer me because its not the newest version of CS5. Worthless.... can someone help?? I would be SO greatful! thanks.

There are problems with fonts and pdfs in OS X.6.7. Also Acrobat 9.2 is not the latest version of Acrobat. Try updating to Acrobat 9.4.3.

    Hi Gordon,
Can you please try opening the following PDF: http://samplepdf.com/sample.pdf.
Do try to open it in browser by clicking the abobe link and in Adobe Reader itself by Right-Click on link->"Save link as".
If you still getting these error, uninstall Reader using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and reinstall Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader.

  • Issue: installed Adobe Reader XI, Norwegian version, existing pdf will not open or appear empty

I have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times, but I still have the same issue. Adobe automatically gives me the Norwegian version as I live in Norway. When I open existing pdf files they appear empty, and automatically close themselves after a few seconds.
Any idea how I can solve this problem?
    Your input is highly appreciated!
    Thank you.

  • Interactive PDF will not open online with IE

I have been using ID 5.0 for a year creating interactive PDF publications. All of the sudden the PDF will not open in any version of IE. Works fine with Chrome, Safari...
I have unistalled ID and reloaded but that did not help. I have changed versions of IE with no improvement.
Previous publications onlie still open fine, its just the current publication that has the issue.7y6
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Crissymarie

That sounds more like a settings problem or missing plugin in IE than anything else.

I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro ?

Hi Jenny, I just had to do that, for the 3rd time. It is a pity though when one pays for such expensive software that this happens, specifically when the only Adobe help is to tell you to post your problem on a forum and hope someone can help you. Not good enough and not what I expected when I bought it. I am so disappointed in Adobe.

  • PDF will not open in my firefox browser although i have updated my jave and adobe, they open in internet explore

Ever since my firefox updated today 3/8/10 it has stopped opening pdf's in browser. All i see is a blank screen or sometimes just the loading blue bar. It will not open. • PDFs will not open in Browser with Adobe Reader 9

I am using Vista Ultimate x64 (SP1) using IE7. I am using the 32-bit version of the browser. I have selected "Display PDF in browser" on the Internet settings tab of the Adobe Reader 9.
Every time I select a PDF document, it forces me to save the document to the hard drive and open it from the hard drive. It will not open the PDF in the browser. How do I fix this problem??
The above procedure did work in Windows XP (32-bit), but does not appear to work in Vista (64-bit).

I have a similar problem using Adobe Reader 9 with Vista 64. I am also using the 32 bit version of IE7. Every time I click on a pdf to open in IE7 the screen remains white without starting Adobe Reader 9 in IE7 browser window.
Using Adobe Reader independantly works without any problem. Only the IE7 plugin does not seem to work. I reinstalled Adobe Reader 9 but without any effect. Adobe Reader 8 works. How comes?

  • Pdf will not open

My HP Officejet 4632, set up wirelessly, will scan and open in some applications (Adobe) but will not open in all applications (PDFTypewriter).   I did not have this problem on my older HP 5300 scanner.  Is there a newer PDF format?

    Hi,
Thanks for reporting the issue.  It looks like comaptiblity issue in PDF.
You can try following things. It may help to fix the probelm.
    1. Download the latest Acrobat reader and install it
    2. Look for new updates from PDFTypewriter and install it if any.
    3. Enable the windows update and updates your system with latest patches from windows.
Restart the PC, do a scan and see whether it works.
    Happy Printing

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Prof - PDFs will not open in Adobe automatically

I have a workstation that has Adobe Acrobat 8 professional installed. I was first notified that the user complained that each time he opened a PDF in an Email, it would open in Explorer. I had him save a document to his c; drive and did a view file type. In that listing, there was no Adobe professional listed. I attempted to browse to the adobe.exe file but each time, it would default back to explorer, even if I checked the box for it to default to the adobe.exe file that I browsed to. I also noted that adobe never became an application in that listing.
We uninstalled adobe and reinstalled it. Still not successful. We ended up installing Adobe Reader, but the user wants it to open in Adobe Professional. I know that he can save the document then open it with Adobe profesional, but this is an extra step and he would like to be able to just double click on the file and open into Adobe Professional.
What do I need to do to make this work?
    Thanks in advance.

QUOTE>>>To clarify, you would need to first check to see if the PDF extension is set to open (screenshot.20). THIS IS THE AREA THAT PDF IS NOT IN.
If it is not set to open with Acrobat <your version here> (screenshot.21), then you will need to manually tell the computer what program to use.  This is where it becomes important to know the filename you are looking for. Adobe is a company; Acrobat is a program. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I TRIED TO DO AND OF COURSE I KNOWN I USED THE WRONG NAME / WORD HERE BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE CORRECT FILE. WHEN I CHOSE THE ACROBAT.EXE FILE IT WOULD STILL OPEN IN INTERNET EXPLORER.
I have a different version than you do, but as an example, my program is located here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe I'M IN THE RIGHT AREA AND GOT THE RIGHT FILE NAME. THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE.
Can we get off the wrong word use and get back to a solution please. I am in the right folder c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 8.0\acrobat.exe and I am browsing for ACROBAT.exe (not ADOBE.exe - again wrong word in my first discussion)
    Bad day, sorry!

  • Converted raw (or .dng) will not open in ACR?

OK, now that I've gotten sort-of over the hurdle of synching all the pieces associated with a smart object, I've hit the NEXT hurdle (SOs appear to be the usual double-edged sword - kinda handy in a way but rife with pitfalls and hurdles)...
I open a .NEF in Bridge, go into ACR and open the file as a Smart Object in Photoshop.  Double-click the layer icon and I'm back in ACR, just like all the demos and seminars I've watched.  But, take the SAME .NEF in Bridge and open it as a standard image in Photoshop, then CONVERT it to a smart object, double-click the layer icon and all I get is a .psd and NOT jump into ACR.  It does exactly the same thing with a .dng file And from Lightroom OR ACR...
I found an entry from a discussion (not in here, I couldn't find anything about this in here) about CS3 (yes 3), where a user had this problem and was told it's because the original image was opened as a rasterized image, NOT as a Smart Object from ACR...  Which isn't making sense to me 'cause who cares what it was way back when, it's NOW a Smart Object and should be treated like one no matter HOW it got there...
Is there some preference or setting or something I need to change in Photoshop so this will work as expected is is there really some restriction about exactly HOW the Smart Object got created?  And if so, is there some paragraph is big, bold letters in the documentation that makes it really clear to the uninformed that you MUST open it as a Smart Object or it won't work?
And yes, I KNOW that in ACR I can set it so it defaults to opening as a Smart Object, but like many other PS users I normally use Lightroom and I haven't seen any such default.  Which means it's REALLY easy to forget to go down to the Open as Smart Object and instead just hit Open in Photoshop...

Listen, buddy, no one has any obligation to answer your questions here in this user to user forum.  Lose the attitude.
I'll repeat the answer anyway, as you apparently are unable to read replies carefully.

…CAN I take an image that was opened in Photoshop as a "standard" image, then converted to a smart object and edit it in ACR?  If yes, HOW?
No, ABSOLUTELY NOT !  You cannot. Period. That's what I said in post #2 of this thread.
ACR will only open and edit Smart Objects that contain raw data.  Any image opened in Photoshop —not as a Smart Öbject—is already cooked and contains no raw data any more. Additionally, ACR can edit JPEGs and TIFFs if you set your preferences accordingly, but with much less latitude and functionality than a raw file.
What's more, the cooked Smart Object 's now in the cooked PSB format (a variation of PSD that can handle much larger files than PSD can) so there's no way on Earth ACR can open it.

  • Reader 10 - PDF will not open in IE

I installed Reader X on a laptop at work with Win XP Pro. No problems; everything worked. I can read PDFs in IE.
I also installed Reader X on a desktop at home running Vista business. Reader X, itself, seems to work fine. I can open a PDF in Firefox which is installed on this computer. I cannot open a PDF in IE. It only wants me to download the pdf file. It doesn't open it in a window. Display PDF in Browser is checked in Internet Preferences/Web Browser Options. Manage Add-ons in IE shows both Adobe PDF Link Helper and Adobe PDF Reader add-ons as Enabled.
Does anyone have any idea what i can do to get this problem solved?
    irablum1

Some times the PDF is linked to a site that is NOT on the site your visiting. If this is the case, then BOTH web sites will have to be added to the Trusted Sites.
Did you try the second step?
The other fix I have found is to Uninstall Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash and IE8. Install CCleaner and run the program using the default settings. This removes any old registry connections for Adobe. Then reinstall IE8 and Adobe Acrobat or Reader. Then open Adobe to make sure that the Open PDF in Web Browser is unchecked. Then Install Flash. Then go to the website to open a PDF. The PDF should now open with Adobe.
See if you can open a PDF from a different website or sites.
If your on a network, and are using ISA make sure that ISA is not blocking the PDF's ie: add these sites to the trusted list in ISA.

  • Pdfs will not open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0 with os 10.6.8

I have an iMac, Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8 and Adobe REader 10.1. When I click on a pdf to open, all I get is the QuickTime icon, which opens the 1st page only, but when I try to print even that page, it is blank.
I have tried dumping the AdobePDFViewer plugin from the Internet Plug Ins as indicated below, to no avail.
    [file://localhost/Library/Internet%20Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin/]
This has been SOOOOO frustrating. When I called Adobe, they want to charge me $39.99 to talk to a technician! Since their download for the Reader is "free," I find it objectionable, to say the least, that they have the audacity to want to charge me on a "free" application program!
I'm ready to change to an alternative Reader, if their is such a thing, if anyone out there has a suggestion for that kind of program. I would really like to solve the mystery of why my Adobe pdfs won't open, however. This problem has been going on for about 2 weeks now, since August 7th.
    Thanks.

Select a PDF file, CMD+I, check the Open With section, and ensure that AR is selected. If not, then select it and click on the Change All button. Alternatively, select Preview, which is my default PDF reader.

  • My pDFs will not open

    I can not open PDFs

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
