Converting Drop Zone to a Circle

How do you create a drop zone as a circle instead of a square in Motion 3? I want to create 5 or 6 circle drop zones, but can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

You don't have to email me personally if you're having problems. You should just continue to reply to the thread so that others with the same issue will know how to solve the problem.
In response to your email to me:
Hi Andy, thanks for the suggestion on who to "Converting Drop Zone to a Circle", but I still don't know how to do that. Can you please help me. Please.
You should really read up in the manual about masks. It's a very elementary part of Motion (and every other motion gfx program). There is a shape mask tool on the toolbar. You use that tool to mask a layer such as your drop zone. The result is that only the portion masked off is visible. If you use the circle mask tool, then you'll be left with a circle drop zone.

  • Using a movie with sound in a drop zone

I want to use a movie, and its sound, in a theme drop zone. The movie plays just fine, but no sound. I tried using the inspector and turn up the sound (it's set at zero) but no luck. I know I can drop music into the background of a theme, but how can I use both a movie and sound?
    Thanks

Thank you for the quick feedback. The fact of the matter is disappointing. Is there another software I should look at, to convert still images (I use Photo to Movie to manipulate those) and movies (I use iMovie) into DVDs?
    Thanks again,

  • Dropping Video into a drop zone...

Is it possible to put video in a drop zone without losing any qaultiy? I have video clips that I insert into drop zones that are over 1GB, but once inserted, the file size of my project only says 256MB. I would like that video clip to be uncompressed for best quality.

If your working in DVD SP, all video assets are converted to Mpeg2, if not before bringing it into DVD SP, then during the build by compressor 2.
If your exporting out of FCP, using QT conversion, STOP! You should be using "QuickTime Movie" as your export, (first option in FCP 5 export.) You should also, to save time, uncheck the self contained movie option, this creates a reference movie that compressor can use and take a fraction of the time to export.
Using QuickTime conversion just adds a whole new layer of compression to your video, using the QT Movie export doesn't and references the source footage, (no loss of video quality. This file is then used by Compressor 2 to create the Mpeg 2 file for DVD SP.
PS: don't remove any of the FCP render or source files, till Compressor is finished creating the Mpeg 2 file. The Mpeg2 file that is created, doesn't need any of the source footage to work in DVD SP, (like the FCP footage and reference movie does.)
Using Compressor as a stand alone App, gives you far better control over the quality of the video asset, than letting DVD SP automatically use Compressor during the build, plus it save time during the build, due to the fact that all assets are already in Mpeg2 format.

  • Drop Zone / Final Cut Placeholder

Is there a posibility to change (convert) a Drop Zone into FC Placeholder? I made some projects in Motion and I wan to use them as FCPX Titles with placeholder instead of Drop Zone.

Read this thread all the way to the end:
Is there any way to convert Dropzone to Final Cut Placeholder?
That was for an Effect. For a Title, rename the project .moti (hopefully the same trick will work.)

  • Rotate drop zones?

Is it possible to rotate drop zones or text?
I have some title text that I want flipped vertical running up the left hand side of the menu page, just wondering if this is possible in DVDSP or will I have to make up the title elsewhere and bring it in as a jpg or psd or whatever?

Not in DVDSP - you'll need to construct the menu in Photoshop and bring it in as a TIFF or PICT file. BY this, I mean create the entire background and not just the vertical text (although you could also do that and use a drop zone to position it).
FWIW, keep away from using JPEGs in your menus as these don't always compress nicely when you build your disc. TIFF or PICT are better as they use 'lossless' compression and convert to MPEG2 much better, IMO.

  • How to add more than one clip to a drop zone?  New guy

Hey all, I'm new to DVD studio and I'm trying to fiqure out how to add more than one clip to a Template drop zone. I'm using a 6 button template. I've named each button .. Football, Baseball, Hockey ...etc.
How can put in MORE THAN ONE CLIP in the Football track/drop zone. So when someone clicks on Football they can see 3 examples.
Do I need to create something to link to that Football button?
    Any replies appreciated

You can edit the segments to be used in FCP or Motion so that the asset drop in has three examples
Another way (if you want) is to make the entire menu outside of DVD SP so that the background layer is an m2v and the items are revealed/masked to some degree
Take a look towards the bottom of this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2951183&#2951183 where I discuss http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/Overmovies.zip
Note that you can also use a basic overlay to do this. The overlay would be just solid black instead of the arrows/circles things I use in that example.
For instance make the text one color and the box over the movie another (You can make it blue and the box red lets say) Draw a region over both for the button. Map blue for highlights/transparencies for normall/selected/activated and the same for the Box

  • How to add more drop zones or movies in an idvd menu

I was building a dvd in idvd and ran out of drop zones to fill but I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones.
I tried different templates but I could find none that had more than 12 drop zones.
Then I was adding movies to the main menu and idvd refused to allow more movies added when I reached 10 movies. It said that the template did not accept more movies.
I tried a few other templates and could not get it to accept more.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
Is there some way to add more than the default drop zones in an idvd template and to add more movies in a menu without having to use submenus?
    Thanks for any advice.

I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones
Sorry, the templates 'are what they are'.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
You need to figure out how to work with what is available.
If you want more freedom, buy Apple's Final Cut Studio and learn to use DVD Studio Pro.

  • Not able to Render more than two asset type in a drop zone on page

    Hi All,
I have created two different assets by making two different flex family.
I need to render these two assets in a single drop zone on a page.
Can some one tell me how is it possible to make a drop zone on page which will be able to take two different type of assets because while creating Page attribute when i select page attribute of type asset there is no option through which i can select more than two asset types.
    Thanks & regards,
    Ankur Bhatia

    Hi Rodney,
    Thanks for ur Reply.
While creating page attribute on admin site, when we select attribute type as "asset" a dropdown list comes just below through which we can select only a single asset.
how to use a list option here or how can we create it so that it can be used with various asset types.
Also in avisports site there is no drop zone which can contain more than one asset of different type.
The Drop zone contains here all the assets of same type.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Photos won't drop on Drop zones

Photos won't drop on drop zones anymore. I can see the photos in the media browser, but they won't drop where I send them. I had to re-organize my iphoto library a bit, but all the photos are seen and work fine in iphoto, just won't drop into drop zones in idvd 6. A very few photos will work. Is there some re-initializing the library I need to do or something?

  • Drop zone of loop in the film stip template, works in simultor, not burning

Droping a loop from the film into the drop some in a chapter menu and it shows up on the simulator. when I go to burn or build etc there is just white where the loop should be. everything else is workinng fine just but no loop- any ideas out there?
    thnx

OK bigger problem- the all NTSC DVD that used the same template [film strip] also had no problem in the simulator, but I just build/formated it, and the drop zones in the menu buttons whent all white again- same as yesterday. I also checked and they were all software based in the menu prefs. something is wrong here, there is like a "flash frame" of the first frame of the loop, frozen for a split second. and then when the motion starts it all goes to white in zone. I am really flumixed here, did I change something in the targets or is it still burn realted? but why does it work in the simulator, like a charm and then it does not burn????? FRUSTRATED

  • I'm trying to burn a dvd from idvd but I keep getting error message, broken assets, but when I check my drop zones and their content there's no error messages on any of them?

I'm trying to burn a dvd from idvd but I keep getting error message, broken assets, but when I check my drop zones and their content there's no error messages on any of them?

    Hi
And if You change view - in main "window/view field" so that You see the box-plot structure.
No exclamation marks there either ?
and non at the front page ?
iDVD do not copy Your material - only points to where it is stored. So if on any external hard disks, USB-memories, CDs or DVDs are missing - assetts are broken.
Or if You changed location of any material or directed iPhoto or iTunes or GarageBand to a new Library - Then iMovie/iDVD also get's lost.

  • Images too large for Drop zone in Template

Is there a way I can resize images I want to use after I drop it in a drop zone? For some reason, all my images are too large for the drop zones - even after making smaller in photoshop.
    Thanks!

I'm fairly new to DVD SP too and wondering the same thing.
Shouldn't we be able to edit the image mask?
It's kinda worthless to just accept what DVDSP decides to do with the photo.

  • I've encountered problems with drop zones in generators from Motion 5 toFCP X 10.0.7.

The clips won't import properly and come up as stills rather than videos. In one of my generators (with three drop zones) only one will display the clip - the other two play as stills (frozen?). I've tried having the playhead parked at the start of the clip when adding them to the generator, but it produces the same results.
    Any solutions?

I've had this too and the fix then was to delete my project render files (FCP that is).

  • How do you adjust the timings of a video placed in a drop zone?

    Hi,
I brought a template online and have dropped a video into one of the drop zones. It plays fine, although I would like it to start in a different place and fade the sound in and out.
How do I go about doing this?
    Thanks

Trim the Out point of your video so that the entire clip is not in your project (this is so you can slip the video and audio). This step may or may not be necessary if the drop zone is not the same length as your video clip.
Open the timing pane (F6). Hold down OPT while dragging the layer to slip the clip in the project. This will also slip the audio. Once you have it in the right spot, click the audio display button at the bottom of your timing pane (it looks like a little speaker). This will show you your audio track.
Select the audio layer and go to add behavior/audio/audio fade in out. In the inspector, adjust the behavior to taste.

  • Adding pictures to a theme, but not in the drop zones...

I don't know if this is a really noob ou really tricky question, but here it goes : )
I'd like to add a/some picture(s) to a iDVD theme, but not in the drop zones. I'd like my pictures to appear as layers, choose whoch one goes in front, and so on...
Is there any way to do that?
Thx, and happy new year ; )
    iMac 24' 2,16GHz CodeDuo2 GeForce 7300 GT 1Gh DDR   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

In that case you would need to prepare the background as a QT movie exactly the way you want to display it as a background movie and then drag and drop that prepared QT file to iDVD.
I've never done this type of movie in iLife apps alone but I have with FCP & DVD SP which offers these additional video editing options for sizing pip and frames in an existing movie / menu.
Also check the help Menu for iDVD6 (and iMovie) if you haven't already. I did a search for you and here's what I came up with:
Changing the background image of a DVD menu
You can replace the background image in a menu with your own image. Images in menu backgrounds are cropped to fit the standard DVD window size, but the aspect ratio of the original image is preserved. If you want your image to fit the DVD window exactly, first use an image-editing application to resize the image to 640 x 480 for standard video and 854 x 480 for widescreen.
When you replace a background image, you can also choose to keep the drop zones or remove them completely.
Here are ways to change the background image:
Drag a picture file from the Finder or the Media pane to a DVD menu background, outside a drop zone. Before you drop the picture, press the Command key and choose "Replace background" or "Replace background and drop zones" from the contextual menu that appears (shown above). Then release the mouse button.
Click the Menu button and drag a picture file from the Finder to the background well in the Menu pane. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones disappear.
Click the Media button, then click Photos. Drag a photo from your iPhoto library or another folder to your DVD menu. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
Choose File > Import > Image, locate and select an image, and click Import. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
To remove a background image and return to the default image for the theme, click the Menu button and drag the image out of the background well (shown above).
    Hope this answers your question/s.
