Converting DVD's to put on Ipod video

I just got a ipod video and i'm trying to put DVD's on it. I have been trying to download QuickTime 7 ( because I think that is the right program to convert DVD's to mp4 files, and make the files smaller to be able to put on the ipod, if it's not please tell me). So I download it and try to make it play the DVD's so i can convert it, but it won't open the DVD. If I am doing stuff wrong, or if everything is wrong please tell me what program to use and what to do to put the DVD on my Ipod.

Quicktime does not have the ability to convert a DVD.
To convert a DVD for iPod use, you'll need to use third-party software.
You'll first need decrypting software to remove the encryption on the DVD.
Then you'll need conversion software to convert the decrypted files into an iPod friendly format.
Sometimes, both of those tasks can be accomplished with one piece of software. (Before anyone mentions it Videora iPod Converter is NOT an all-in-one package. It does NOT decrypt DVDs.)
PQ DVD seems to be popular for Windows users, as well as ImTOO.

Does anyone know of any programs, hopefully free, that will allow me to take DVD's that I own, and convert them to a format that I can put on my iPod. I don't like buying things from websites that I have never heard of, so if there is not a free program out there, is there a CD or something that I can buy from Amazon, Apple store, etc.

I am really struggling with some of these programs. I have tried a couple different ones and now I am trying Videora. I can't seem to figure any of them out. On Videora I am using the only button that seems to make sense, which is 'Transcode' and it does not seem to do anything. I would really like to take some of the DVD's I have and put them on my iPod, but I just can't seem to figure it out. If anyone could try and help me figure this out I would really appreciate it.

I tried importing or dragging it from my iPod to iMovie on my Mac, but it resisted, that din't work.

I'm just beginning to take video with the Camera on my iPod Touch. I didn't mean to, i thot i was just taking a picture, but there it is, a few seconds of video, so i thot i would learn to get it off my iPod and onto my computer somehow.

I'm guessing i just drag the video, while i've selected my connected iPod on my iPhoto screen, over to my iPhoto icon?
Or within my iPhoto screen i drag the video down to where, cuz i didn't see a place for it on iPhoto. Maybe it already transferred the video to iPhoto, and i can already delete it from my iPod.
Cuz that happened with some pictures i took on my iPod, which i dragged to iPhoto icon and was informed they were already there so i could delete pics from my iPod.

Converting Dvd's to use on ipod 60 gig series

how do I convert a DVD so that I can download it to my ipod? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What most people will tell you to use is the Videora Ipod Converter. It is used by a lot of people but since it is freeware it does have a few bugs such as converting a file and then the audio not match up with the video no matter how much you customize the settings. There is a program that costs $35 that I would highly recommend. It is called Pqdvd. The pqdvd comes in three different types, you would obviously want the ipod one.

This program can convert dvd's right from your dvd drive into mp4 format for the ipod and you can customize it to your own personal quality. It works great and is worth the $35...It can also just convert any downloaded video as well. Hope this helps.

Videos won't play the music after converted in iTunes and put on iPod

I converted some videos in iTunes and then put them on the iPod and there is no sound with the video. Does anybody have the same problem and can you help fix this? Thanks.

I have this same problem also and have found out that you have buy a video from istore to get it to convert to your ipod. If you just add a video already on your cmp to itunes, it will not convert the sound over the itunes, this appears mostly on Window pc's, not as much as a mac to my knowledge.

What Handbrake setting to use to convert DVD to play both Appletv & ipod???

When I convert a DVD using the Apple Tv setting it doesn't play on my ipod. What setting should I use on Handbrake to play on both? Does it matter as far as quality of play?

It definately matters.
iPod High Rez is limited to 640 horisontal resolution, normal wide screen DVD's are often up to 1024 pixels horisontal resolution, so you are throwing away a lot of quality by using the iPod preset.
I convert all movies using the AppleTV preset, then make copies for my iPhone using the iPhone/iPod Touch preset (a bit higher resolution than iPod low res).
Sure it takes up more HD space, but USB2 harddrives are cheap these days and I want the best possible quality on my AppleTV and the smallest filesize on my iPhone.
Even HD TV-shows from Apple come in 2 versions (both are downloaded when you buy an HD show) - a "SD" version (640x480) and an "HD" (720p) version so this is the way Apple does it as well.

DVD: can I extract the movie files? Then convert for iPod Video?

I created a DVD (burned on DVD media). I did not archive the project. Can I extract the movie files? Or how do I convert them to m4v for an iPod Video?
I know if I have the movies (clips) in iMovie I can do it but how do I do it from a completed DVD that I created and dont have the assets? help++++++++++

which program is best to convert dvd's to the 60G ipod?? quick time pro? anybody heard of pqdvd? my friend has a 30G and he uses the pqdvd converter, he says everything seems fine and very easy to use. He did say that after he convert a movie to the ipod, it seems that if he wanted to forward to the next scene/chapter he has to use the fast forward button and keep pressing it doen to forward to the next scene. Sounds like the dvd menu is not available to select individual scenes. I am getting my 60G tomorrow and wanted to see which program works best to convert dvd's to theipod. Please help, thank you.

Do ipod video videos work on the iphone?

I dont mean do they work like show picture but do i have to reformat them or re-rip my dvds or do the regular ipod video format works 100%. I am asking this because the iphone has a better resolution then the ipod video which i have and the videos are formated for the ipods resolution. Can the iphone clearly display these same videos?

If you compare the Tech Specs pages for both devices you will see all have the same limitations. However, as with any such devices, any particular movie may have problems depending on normal variations in hardware manufacture, movie content, the manner in which you converted the content, and the amount of "headroom" specified in your settings. All of my iTunes files play equally well on iPhone, iPod and TV using the iPod/iPhone targets with the sole exception being alternate language files which I created for test purposes in May of last year. These files, of course, currently only play properly in players updated to handle alternate language switching.
Can the iphone clearly display these same videos?
Quality is a matter of perception. They look fine to me, but then I am not a "perfectionist" when it comes to viewing my files -- especially those coming from 50, 60, 70, or 80 year old media sources.

IPod video onto a photo

I made a itunes compatible video. I converted it to mp4 and resized the video to 160x128, and I changed audio bitrate to 128. Itunes recognizes it, but it won't transfer it to my ipod. Before the new ipod update comes out, does anyone know a way to transfer it?

If the future ipod updates doesn't allow ipod photos to play videos, I know I could change my ipods version info so ipod updater will think its a ipod video, so when i press restore it will format it and put the ipod video firmware on it.

Please can you tell me how I would change my ipods version info.

Ipod video sync

Hello there,
I have a strange problem I cannot solve.
I've looked up in the Forum but I found no answers.
I've an ipod 60gB with the last firmware (1.2), and i have also restaured the ipod (but it didn't solve the following problem).
I converted my dvds of the simpsons into ipod video format.
If I set any of the Simpson show as a "movie" in itunes (7.0.2), it will be synced to my ipod.
If I set the same Simpson show as a "tv show", it will not be synced to my ipod and moreover itunes will considered it as not compatible for ipod playback.
Has anyone encountered the same problem ?
Because, it's really annoying : i have several season of the simpsons and the it's sorted as "tv show" in itunes is really handly.

I just got an Ipod video and i have no idea how to put DVD's on, all I know is that you need a "DVD to iPod converter". Could you please tell me where to download one for free, what it's called and then how to convert the DVD to and mp4 file and put it on the iPod.

Handbrake for windows has been available since Jan. 06. You have to use it with, DVD shrink, DVD43, or DVD decrypter. The Mac version is tried and true I don't know about the Windows version

On my windows XP system I use DVD Decrypter (for removal of all the nasty protection.) Then I use MpegStreamclip for Windows, it has a conversion feature for iPod video.
After trying many other solutions I found this to be the most reliable for keeping the audio and video synced.
Note: I've also had good results with Videora iPod Converter it's freeware just like DVD Decrypter and Mpeg_Streamclip.

ok so i was told to use "decrypter" and so i went to google and typed it in and it came up with a few results

Im trying to put a DVD onto my iPod video but it just wont go into my library for me to convert....what do i have to do?

DVDs will not appear in iTunes and cannot be put into iTunes through your computer.

first get dvd shrink off of google and then get the ipod videora convertor
1 open the dvd using dvd shrink go to the preferences and turn it off from splitting the files into 1 gb parts if u dont then it will split the files which u dont want to happen
2 then go to reauthor at the top of the window and go to the dvd drive and then double click the main movie it should move to the other column then click back up at the top of the window pick the spot to back up to
3 after backing up go to the folder then go to the VOB file and the easiest way to do it is to put t on your desktop
4 open the convertor and go to convert then go to transcode video then use browser to find the video
5 rename the video and add it to i tunes done
