Converting DVD's with SmartConverter to add to iTunes library

I have unsuccesfully tried to add some of my own DVD's to my iTunes library. After searching for solutions, I read that it could work if I used SmartConverter. I've downloaded the App and tried to drag a movie in the SmartConverter window. However, everytime I try this it never works. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if SmartConverter is the right App to do what I want. I could use any suggestion to find a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance...

Most commercial DVDs are copy protected. In the USA and many other places it is ilegal to circumvent the copy protection. Yes, even for DVDs you own. Sorry, powerful media companies getting laws passed. If you own a DVD then some companies have a special site where you can download a computer friendly version (maybe just a Windows computer), or maybe not. What they would love for you to do is have bought the movie once when it was on VHS, then go out an buy it again on DVD, then a third time on BluRay, then a fourth time for your computer! Anyway, trying to convert a copy protected file won't work.
Then too, it isn't clear to me from reading the Mac App Store's blurb on SC that it can do DVD format files (mpeg-2). There's almost no details on what it does on the company's web site other than vague generalities such as "100s of media formats".

How do I burn data CD/DVD with items not located in iTunes Library? Prior to the update to iTunes 8.0.2, I could burn Data CDs/DVD from my desktop - these were documents files, and audiobooks/songs not located in iTunes Library. Now I can't get the burn preferences window to show up. Something has changed in the iTunes 8.0.2 update which keeps me from burning anything that is not in iTunes library. Please advise. Thank you.

As a test, I created a New Burn Folder on the desktop, transferred aliases for music and documents not in iTunes Library, totaling about 2.5GB. I burned all on to a 4.7 GB DVD-R. Everything burned properly and quickly as usual. And each item is an accurate replica of my files.
Perhaps I was wrong in thinking that a few months ago when I burned non-iTunes Library items, I always got a Burn Preferences Window on my desktop. No matter, it all went well. And I also learned that we now burn songs in iTunes only via the playlist window, where "Burn" brings on the Burn preferences choices.

Regarding your broken, previously authorized computer, here's how that works:
You would authorize your new computer -- maybe you've done that already. Then you will have two computers authorized. Apple allows you to have up to five computers authorized at any time. If you get to five, you can then go to your account details in iTunes and remove all authorizations.
Bear in mind this is not saying you can synch to more tham one library. Razmee209 and gdgmacguy's comments above are correct. But if Apple only allowed you to authorize one computer at a time, then having a broken computer would mean you could no longer use your Apple ID with iTunes.

It is best to add your music from your original computer that music came from. Copy the folder from your old computer to your new one and add the songs to iTunes.
It is possible however to do it without your old computer. You will have to rely on 3rd party software like MusicRescue or Senuti. Many people frown on this method as it could easily lead to piracy (as so many other things can in this world...)

Hi I am having difficulties with numerous duplicates in my itunes library.

I am having trouble with duplicates songs in my itunes library. It seems the songs keep being aded when I plug in my iphone or ipod. I need to know how to get rif of multiple songs in the library and possibly how to prevent this?
If you go to top you can pull down the duplicate songs menu and many songs sppear but if I try to delete them all will it erase them all or leave one copy? does anyone have experience with this?

You could try emailing iTunes support, giving them your order number, etc. or you could just take the hit and pay the 99p. I know what I would do.

You can only sync with one ITunes library. It you switch iTunes library iTunes will erase the iPod and replace it contents with what is in the library of the new computer.

Dealing with Shared Libraries after moving iTunes library to new Computer

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch) with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Previously, I had my iTunes on a Dell PC computer. Using an external hard drive, I transferred my iTunes library over to the Mac. After trying to sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2), I discovered that I wasn't able to sync my music. In my attempt to fix this, I tried several things. I actually purchased iTunes Match, hoping that this would somehow fix this problem, but it didn't work. I tried restoring my iPhone to factory settings after completely a backup. Again, this did not work. I have tried to delete my library and add it back following the specific instructions found on the Apple Support site (How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support).
When my iPhone is plugged in and I click under iPhone settings Music, the only option I have to work with is iTunes Match is On and syncing voice memos. There is not the option to sync music library.
I feel that somehow I have created multiple libraries or messed smoothing up because I can't even transfer music on to my iPhone manually. It's like my iPhone won't recognize the library on my iTunes. I am using the 12.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have had a 20GB ipod with itunes. I had 822 songs on that itunes library, and just today got an 30GB ipod video. I want the songs already in my library to go into my new ipod. How can I do that without putting all those cds back in and downloading everything again song-by-song?

If the songs are in iTunes on your computer then just connect your new iPod, it will by default automatically update from your iTunes library. If they are not in iTunes but are on your original iPod you'll need to get them back onto the hard drive and into iTunes.
There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
There are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod and return them to iTunes, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

Download it to your computer and make sure you know where the file is.
Right-click the file, choose Properties and look at the General tab. Make sure the "Type of file" is "MPEG Layer 3 audio file" and that the "Size" is at least several MB.

I managed to transfer all music, including those from CDs, from my old iPod onto iTunes (newest version), so I figured that I would sync my iPod to retrieve them. Correction: The music on my iPod doesn't show up in the "Music" section in "iPod" in iTunes.
