I would like to convert DVDS to iPod format so I can view them on my new iPod? Can someone help me with a how to list? I have located many PC or windows applications for making the conversion ( free downloads) but what do we use if we are mac users (Mac OS X version 10.3.9)?
Thank you for your help..... Mark

  • My ole' Premiere program...trying to convert created video into supported format for youtube...

I have the Adobe Premiere 3.0 program...i know, i know...pretty ancient. But hey, it works for the time being...lo. My problem is, i keep creating videos from this program, and am unable to convert it into the format supported by Youtube...HEEELLLPPP!!! The format i am saving it in is, [.prel]. the formats acceptable are; MPE4 format [Divx, Xvid, or SQV3 instead of h. 264] at 640x480 resolution with MP3audio [64k momo]
After reading those stereo instructions, my question is....hoe do I convert an already designed video to fit these specs?
Thanks in advance for your assistance, and I love you all.

    Thanks Hunt, hun.
Been trying to figure this out for some time now. I am not that knowledgeable in the formats for videos being uploaded to different sites, but i am pretty good at creating videos. I am saving them in the format [.prel], and have no iea as to how to convert the format from - .prel, to {any other format}. I am looking on the program, and see no spot for conversion. i also have a program called prism video converter, which was unable to convert the format as wel, due to the fact that they dont support beginning formats of -.prel, as well. So i am within a rock a very very hard place right now. Is there a different program which i could install, which would allow me to convert the premiere videos i have created into another format? i recently downloaded the trial version of premiere pro. I hope this program allows me to take the saved project, and convert it into a usable format. Thanks again for all your assistance hun. Really appreesh it.

  • Why won't my new usb cable charge my 30gb 5th generation ipod

I've recently purchased two different ipod usb ipod cords for my 30gb 5th genertation ipod. when i plug it into my pc nothing happens. No recognition at all. however my girlfriends older cord does workwhen i plug my ipod into my pc. This is a major inconveniance being her cord is not readily available.

That is definitely odd.  As a work around why not just give her one of your newly purchased cables and have her give you the cable that seems to work with your iPod.

  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

  • I have a 30 gb ipod formatted for windows  I would like to reformat for a macbook

I have a 30 GB ipod formatted for windows How can it be reformatted to work with my macbook?

This process will delete all songs in your iPod. (Sorry if I sound like some outcountry Helpdesk)
But you can transfer Windows iTunes library to your Macbook.
    1. Connect to your Macbook, close iTunes if it opened up.
    2. Open up Disk Utility, select Checksum CRC
    3. Select your iPod icon.
    4. Click on Erase tab
    5. Select  Mac OS X Journal format
    6. Press Erase button and wait for about 20 minutes
When it finishes, Itunes will  launch and prompt for Restore, so just follow the prompts.
    Have a nice day!

  • Can an iPod formatted for Macs play on Windows iTunes?

I have an iPod formatted for a Mac but have to use a Windows computer at work. Is there a way to play my iPod through the Windows iTunes player? I tried plugging it int through a USB adaptor, but my computer doesn't trecognize my iPod.
    Thanks!

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay for instance gets good reviews, you can find it at this link: XPlay 2
XPlay is currently only compatible with Windows XP, 2000, Me or 98SE, a new version for Vista is planned for release later this year.

  • IPod formatted for PC

When I originally got my iPod, I was still using a PC, but I've since switched to Mac. My iTunes works perfectly fine, but there are never offers to update my iPod except for when I sign onto someone else's iTunes on a PC. Should I continue to update my iPod using PCs or will my iPod eventually stop being compatible with my Mac iTunes...?

As you know, you can continue to use a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac if you wish to do so. They only thing you won't be able to do is install firmware updates unless you Restore the iPod to be the same format as the computer it runs on (e.g. reformatted to Mac format you could then install firmware with the Mac iTunes).
But there are advantages to leaving it Windows formatted. As you already noted, one is the ability to use the iPod with Windows computers and your Mac. Where as if you reformatted to Mac, you would be restricted to only Mac computers.
So far I have never heard of any iPods becoming unusable with iTunes because they have old firmware installed. I have an original 30GB 5th generation iPod that still has the original v1.0 firmware on it (and I ain't gonna update it!) and it still works fine with iTunes.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Converting a video to correct format

How do you convert your videos to the format that would be accepted by the ipod? I have Windows Media player

    Here you go, http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
in short download the decrypter, follow the steps to decrypt the dvd to a .vob filetype....then use the Videora Converter to convert that into mpeg4, If you want to convert current avi and mpegs into iPod compatability then just use the converter, if u want to convert .wmv into mpeg4 (iPod compatible) then use Videora too.

i guess you could put the aiport utility app on your iphone, click on the aiport express there, it will show you how many devices are connected to it and the mac addresses of those devices.

  • Video podcast format for iPods

I created a video podcast and the RSS feed was successfully accepted by iTunes.
The first two episodes download through iTunes fine. The only problem is that the video file would not transfer to any video iPod. The first two episodes were 320x240 .mov files.
So, I read some sites and found out that it needed to be a .m4v file. I edit the show in iMovie. After finishing the third episode, I used iMovie to "Share to iPod" which I figured would format the file into a proper format for an iPod.
The 3rd episode is uploaded onto the RSS feed, but iTunes doesn't recognize this and make the file available for download. It still only has the first two episodes for download.
Any suggestions? Do I need to use Quicktime Pro and use that to convert the files?
If it helps, here is a link to the feed in iTunes.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I dont know about doing it the "easy" way with apps that do all the work for you. Here it is the "hard" manual way.
You should create a graphic specifically for this purpose and upload that JPEG file to the pace where your podcast episodes are hosted. Then you can post the URL of the picture into your RSS feed, in the top part where all the main info about your podcast is. It should look like this:
    <itunes:image href="http://www.kutvfreshair.com/podcast/bloopersLogo.jpg" />
where the "href" is the http of your picture.

  • How to change video format for iPod touch

please can anyone tell me how to convert my .avi files to the format that will play on my iPod touch!
I've managed to convert a couple in iTunes but the rest of the files won't import to iTunes so I can't use that converter!
I've also tried something called MPEG streamclip but that keeps telling me there's an invalid frame rate and won't work!
Any ideas please, the only reason I bought the 32gb was so I could watch my videos!
    Thanks

On a MAC use iSquint to do your conversion. Get it from version tracker. It's free and fantastic. It will also convert flash (.flv) and .mov files.
One thing to remember is that the default is video scaled for the iPod Classic/video which is smaller than the iPoT. So the settings should be "Optimize for iPod" Quality "High" "H.264 Encoding" then select "advanced" enter 480 in the width and whatever pixel height is required to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original .avi movie. e.g.:
    496 x 272 = 480 x 264
    512 x 208 = 480 x 196
    512 x 216 = 480 x 203
    512 x 288 = 480 x 271
    528 x 288 = 480 x 260

  • Apple developer notes on video format for iPod, Apple TV and iPhone

I have been doing a bit of searching on information for converting video for the Apple TV and came across this web-page which contains technical information of converting video for the iPod, Apple TV and iPhone.
If you are after information on bitrates, b-frames, levels, profiles, low-complexity, etc. then this may help:
    http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2007/tn2188.html
What is interesting to note, whilst 5Mbps is the maximum bitrate, the Apple TV supports spikes up to 12Mbps.
Happy reading and please feel free to add more links to useful information on the video format for the Apple TV.

I have downloaded the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Trailer #2 .mov file and this streams quite happily on the Apple TV. This has a total bitrate of 6505Kbps and an audio bitrate of 192Kbps @ 48KHz and video 23.98fps @ 1280x544.
So, according to the Apple TV spec., the audio is well above 160Kbps and the video bitrate is well above 5Mbps. So why does it play at all on the Apple TV let alone stream without stuttering? Maybe its because the video height is 544 rather than the full 720, but why does the Apple TV get to see it?
I don't know the answers, just offering this as an example of a video that is freely available for anyone to try out which clearly exceeds some of the maximum specs for the Apple TV.
Has anyone found or got anything that beats this?
