Converting DVDs on Hard Drive to AppleTV

Hey Everyone
I have some DVDs that I have copied from Disk to my Hard Drive. I am looking for a software that will allow me to convert these into the AppleTV format. Most software programs will allow me to complete this task if the DVD is in the drive...but the VOB files are on my Hard Drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use HandBrake http://handbrake.m0k.org/
That's what I use to convert .VOB files to Mpeg4. You can select an entire DVD to convert or specific VOB files, after the DVD has been extracted. Keep in mind, you will need a high performing mac, or pc, or it can take very long. Once you've created the Mpeg4 movie file, just move it or copy it to your iTunes library. That's it. Hope it helps

What you want to do is select the files you want to move then go File>Relocate Masters. Your images will then be referenced to a location you select. Aperture will still continue to manage the images, but the external hard drive must be connected if you want to make adjustments. Aperture will retain Metadata and any adjustment information. Your original images will stay unmodified on your external drive.

  • Accidentally converted my external hard drive to a time machine backup

Hi there, got a problem. I accidentally converted my external hard drive to a time machine backup and it re-formats my hard drive. What should i do to get back my data? It happened during my first time using a Mac book Air...
    Please help. Thank you.

As Link pointed out in that thread, there's a lot excluded:
Dec 26 12:29:11 Branch-iMac com.apple.backupd[3876]: Backup content size: 340.7 GB excluded items size: 256.3 GB for volume Media Server
Thus there should be about 80 GB that's included.
And part of it WAS backed-up:
    Dec 26 15:43:56 Branch-iMac com.apple.backupd[3876]: Copied 3986 files (13.6 GB) from volume Media Server.
He's also shown some things that aren't being backed-up, and suggested a couple of things to do, but you haven't responded to his last post.

  • How to convert NTFS external hard drive to FAT32 without loosing data?

New mac user. How to convert NTFS external hard drive to FAT32 without loosing data?

You have to off load and backup then.
    don't have backup drive ?
    Get one.
Want another option? Paragon NTFS for OS X will provide write function to your drive, works with the most PC cases and drives (not all NTFS drivers for OS X do) and does so with fast I/O and low overhead.
Not sure about using Seagate GoFlex as I seem to recall a number of threads reporting problems.
Windows can do a convert -fs to NTFS just never tried the reverse from NTFS to FAT32 but I would not use FAT. I'd either erase and reload and use as Mac HFS Extended; or if you actually do need to use it with a PC user running Windows, the driver would be handy and better.
Or your PC w/ Windows there are HFS drivers for Windows to mount and WRITE to a Mac formatted drive under Windows. There MacDrive has more and better support feature set.

  • DVD from hard drive

How can I play DVD that I rip with DVD Shrink and that now I have on an external hard drive on my macbook
    Please advise
    Thanks in advance

Did you try DVD player. It comes on the Mac. It will play the video_ts folder just like you had it on a dvd. I store certain favorite movies on my external hard drive in this format. That way I can watch them on my computer without the physical dvd in and get the same quality.
Once they get converted to .avi or other format then you lose some of the resolution. I do this for movies I am going to watch on my iPod. I usually have two version of my favorites on my hard drive.
The DVD ripped version and the iPod version. With a large external drive I don't care that each ripped movie is 4 gig or so in size.
If you use the dvd player do not try and open the folder that has the movies name. It will come back with an error. Open the sub-folder called video_ts. Then it will work correctly.

  • DVD to hard drive? and then to... iPod?

I'm pretty new to a lot. I know it's possible I'm just not certain if I need to buy applications to convert the forat or anything
But, I'm trying to get a movie from a DVD to my computers hard drive and then from the hard drive to my 5th gen iPod.
Anyone know what is needed/what has to be done? or is this a big no-no?

Hey, I would love to help you, but as this would go around the copyright protection when burning the DVD to your hard-drive I can't. According to the terms of usage, "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.", we aren't allowed to discuss this here.

  • How do i copy data from a dvd to hard drive?

I have a dvd of a recent event at my church.  It contains video clips and still photos in slideshow format.  How do I save it to my hard drive and then copy it to a new disc? I looked at this issue on previous posts from 2011 but the links to the solution do not work.

Depending on the format of the content, you may need something like MPEG Streamclip (free) or Handbrake (free) to convert those videos into a format iMovie can read. Once converted, you can import them into iMovie, edit (if desired) and then export. You'd then need a burn software such as iDVD, Roxio Toast ($$) or Burn (basic, but free) to burn them onto another DVD.
If you happen to have Roxio Toast, you can avoid all of that as it has the capability to copy video content from one DVD to another - just check their instructions; it's quite easy.

  • Downloading files from DVD or hard drive cameras

Is it possible to download files from hard drive or dvd cameras to be used in Premiere without using the capture function which needs to be done in real time?

Importing files from a DVD camcorder or other MPEG device, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG file!
Go to my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
Click the internal link for editing compressed files... read
There are other products better suited to your task... but if you only have DVD type files, you should convert to DV AVI
The only SD files that Premiere likes are DV AVI type 2

  • Copying VHS to DVD to hard drive

I used my DVD recorder to copy old home videos from VHS tapes onto DVDs. I was then hoping to copy the DVDs onto my hard drive. Is there anyway to go about doing that? I was able to play the DVD on my macbook, but can't figure out how to save it to the hard drive.
    Thanks!

    Download and install the following:
    VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
    Handbrake - http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Insert your DVD, close the default DVD player, open handbrake, set the source to your dvd, select the encoding type you want, let 'er rip.

  • Copying saved programs from HD-DVR to DVD or Hard Drive

I have saved many Beyond 2000 programs on my HD-DVR and am running out of room. I don't want to loose these programs...I use them in teaching my college classes.
Does any one know an easy to copy them to a DVD or to a hard drive? If so, please be as detailed as possible.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    You have 2 options:
    1)  Connect a DVD recorder to the Composite out of the DVR.  Find program, push play on it and immediately push record on the DVR.  Voila - recorded program
    2) Buy a Haupaugue HD-PVR (Model 1212).  It takes a COMPONENT! signal in and stores it as a 1080i or 720p HD signal with up to 5.1 surround sound!  Then they have a program to burn them to DVD IN HIGH DEF!  About $210 on Amazon

  • Trouble copying data fies from DVD to hard Drive

I just installed a second hard drive in my G5, and also 4 gigs of memory. Everything is working fine except my superdrive. I tried copying video files from a DVD to my hard drive and ran into problems.
the files would begin cpying and then about half way through it would slow down the transfer rate. It was just shy of nothing at all.
I can watch a DVD with no problem, and can burn cds. I haven't tried a DVD yet.
    Any Ideas.
The drive is about a year old

I was recently backing up some large video files to a friend's external 500GB drive (via USB 2, very painful), and was unable to use it formatted as FAT32 due to the fact that file sizes are only limited to something like 2GB or less. Had to partition the drive as Mac OS extended for the video portion (since many of the files were far larger than 2GB), and the rest of the disk as FAT32 so they could at least use some of its capacity with their wintel notebook. Frustrating, but hey that is Windows for you...

  • Copying home DVDs to hard drive

I have a DVD recorder hooked up to a TV. I'd like to copy a DVD from that machine onto my Macbook Pro's hard drive so that I can watch the contents without having to carry the disk around with me. Can I do that with QuickTime Pro?
The DVDs play fine using the DVD Player software, but I can't see any way to copy the contents to my computer.
    Thanks!

I'd like to copy a DVD from that machine onto my Macbook Pro's hard drive so that I can watch the contents without having to carry the disk around with me. Can I do that with QuickTime Pro?
No, QT Pro is not required.
The DVDs play fine using the DVD Player software, but I can't see any way to copy the contents to my computer.
Simply insert the DVD and use the Finder to copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to the HDD. When you want to play the movie open the Apple DVD Player, select the "Open DVD Media" File menu option, navigate to the Video_TS folder, select it, and play it. If you prefer a file the operates like a DVD, download DVD Imager, Drop the VIDEO_TS folder on it, give it a name and it will create a DVD image file. Double clicking the image file will mount the data as if you had inserted your DVD. If you computer is set to open the DVD Player when a DVD is inserted, then opening the image file will open the DVD Player also.
