Converting files to garage band

As a musician, I wish to record using my sound recorder that converts directly into itunes. Is there any way to transfer from itunes to garage band?

  • How do i make a DATA file in garage band

ok here is what im trying to do. i need to make a DATA file in garage band and i need to make it possible for the DATA file to be used on Pro Tools so the song can be mixed and mastered. any tips on how to do this?

What I assume you are trying to do is export a MIDI file. GarageBand does not do this, and I don't know of any add-ons which allow it (MidiO allows you to play out MIDI to an external device so you might be able to route this to ProTools). Of course if you do this you won't be using the instruments which are in GB, and the results you get will depend on what you have available in ProTools.
However you can export GarageBand tracks as audio and them mix them in another program. I do this in Cubase LE because its mixing facilities are way better than GarageBand's. This note will tell you how to do it, just substitute ProTools for Cubase:

  • Why can I not import aif files to garage band?

Once I have created an aiff file in iTunes, why can I not import those files into Garage Band?  I'd like to be able to edit some of those files.

I go to garage band and click on create a new project, then browse through the finder and files I want to import are all grayed out -- aiff AND wav files.
You first need to create a new project  - in the "new Project panel" select a template (Guitar, piano, ...), not "Open an existing file".
When the project window opens, drag your aiff or wav file onto an empty space in the Timeline, or open the Media Browser from the footer bar in GarageBand and import an aiff song from your iTunes Library.

    Hello everyone,
I am new to Garage Band, pardon me if my question is too basic.
I am trying to record a vocal. But friend has sent me a music recording (mixture of guitar & piano, without vocal) in mp3 format.
I want to put this mp3 file in another track below the track that I am recording the vocal.
How do I import in this mp3 file into Garage band ?
    Thanks

Thanks HangTime, a bit embarrassed here. How do I drop the file ?
U mean I open another window using FInder, select the file in Finder & then drop on the timeline ?
    Thanks, really appreciate your help.
    Cheers

It's not an apple solution but you can try MailRaider by 45 RPM software. I have not used it personally but it was one of the hits that came up when I did a google search for .msg on Mac.
Hopefuly the link posts but if not then just head over to macupdate and do a search for MailRaider

    Hope this helps.

  • When I drag and drop a wav file into garage band it is rejected. How to imposrt a wav file?

    Hi Everyone,
I want to edit a voice recording, done in WMA format, in Garage Band.
I saw a video in which the fie is simply draged and dropped in the timeline area, and the time line appears. Then youcan edit it.
But when I drag and drop this WMA file into the editing area, it jumps back out to where I dragged it from.
Is there any way to import WMA files intoGarage Band?
    Thank you, Giorafromny

not directly, you'll need to use some software to convert it to a format supported by GB:

  • Can i move garage band files to an external hard drive?  my mac air is low on HD space and i'd like to work on the files through garage band, but on an external hard drive.  i know i can do this with eye movie.  thanks.

hi each and all out there!
i've looked for answers through the help section of garage band and can't find any topics that fit my situation (so far that is :-)).
a friend recently held a memorial service for her husband and i both video taped and audio taped the service.
She would like some editing done on each (video and audio).
i have a mac air that is pretty much filled up and so i need to work on these files not on my computer, rather from an external drive.
through an iMovie discussion, i've been figuring out how to get video files onto an external drive so that i can work with them there through iMovie.
Now i'm wondering about Garage band and can i move the audio files onto an external drive and then work with them there, through Garage band.
and can i just move more of these files (not yet on my computer) directly to the external drive (like i do in iPhoto)?
Thanks so much ... any help would be greatly appreciated, chris.

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • How to import midi files into garage band for ipad

I have the newest iPad and installed Garage Band.  I don't have a MAC computer, only Windows machines.  I want to use the iPad to send the midi files to a Roland 150 keyboard to make it play the music.  Is this even possible?  The Roland has Midi In and Out ports and I have the camera adapter kit and a Yamaha UX16 USB to Midi cable.

You cannot export midi files from GarageBand, sorry. You can only share audio files in aac-format or GarageBand project files, and both are not midi. See what is currently supported: http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.2/index.html#chsec12c387

  • Importing a Midi File into Garage Band 08

    HI,
Bear with me as I apologize up front for my pathetic lack of understanding Garage Band (though I can actually read). I have an instrumental-only song in iTunes that I want to use as the background of vocals I want to lay down. (If I could play instruments, I would use those in the program, trust me.) I sing with a band and this would be SO helpful. I even have a Snowball USB microphone hooked up and ready.
I tried dragging the song from my iTunes list and it looked like it was placed in the track, but when I played nothing seemed to happen. (All audio volumes checked in advance.)
Although I may not be Mac-worthy for my ineptness, any help you send would be really appreciated.

  • How do you take MANY slices of an audio file on garage band and merge them together without dragging and dropping each one?

I record my classroom lectures in law school to help study for finals. However in the hour and a half class there are many pauses, bad questions, wrong answers, useless stories or announcements that I do not have to hear again. I import the audio into gargae band and cut out all the unnessesary stuff. I end up with a file of 100 + clips. If i spend the time dragging and droping them so there are no spaces in between clips the process takes forever. However the reward is relistenign to an hour and half lecture in 15-20 minutes. Thats about how much content the professor gives. Is there a way to merge all the audio by selecting some option? I bascially want garage band to just slide all the clips and condence it to one clip.
I have takent the time the last few semesters to do this the hard way and have been able to relisten to an entire class in 3.5 hours which is huge! if you have ever been in law school. But I don't have that kind of time anymore. HELP!

  • Can I export EXS files to Garage Band?

I know GB uses .exs files and I am placing the instrument and samples next to the other GB  voices but how do I get GB to recognize the data?

    No.
The closest you’ll get is a PDF and Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor.
    Good luck.

  • How to import wav. files into garage band?

I've downloaded some samples for making electric music and they're all wav. files, but I don't know how I can import them into garageband "library" (probably where all the apple's loops are) can somebody please help me???

Which version of GarageBand are you using?
If you want to add samples to the Loop Library, you have to add the sample to a track, and then add it to the loop library. It will depend on your GarageBand version, how to do it:
    In GarageBand 10:  see http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.0/#gbndd0009b98
    In GarageBand '11 see: http://help.apple.com/garageband/index.html#gbnda12ebb99

  • Can I speak into my mac and save it as an audio file with garage band

Can I speak into my mac and save it as digital audio file?

Looking at the specs, the mini does not appear to have a built-in microphone as the iMacs do. You can't just plug a microphone into the input socket, as that is line level and a microphone doesn't have enough output. Your easiest move would be to buy a USB headset such as the one Plantronics makes for use with Skype: this should work straight off.
Sound Recorder is a simple audio recorder: I've not used it, so I don't know if it's any good, but it would at least cost you nothing to try it.
Amadeus II and Amadeus Pro are reasonably priced and are fully featured sound recorders and editors which can save in a number of formats.
