Converting files to Itunes Plus

Can I convert my old songs to Itunes plus files... I am trying to find out how to do it but the info is ambiguous.. and I dont see a way to do it.. I am trying to use some of my Itunes in a Djay app and it will not load some of my old tunes.

Read this article, and you will see the link that tells you how to upgrade your old purchases to iTunes Plus.  (This is actually a replacement, not a conversion.)

  • How to upgrade protected AAC files to iTunes Plus (DRM-free)?

Hi everyone.  I have been purchasing music from the iTunes Music Store ever since it opened here in the US.  Along the way I have purchased both protected AAC files (the original 128 kbps files), iTunes Plus files, and I've upgraded some of the protected to iTunes Plus files for $0.30 over the last few years.  I now have approximately 900 "protected AAC files" left that I wanted to upgrade to iTunes Plus and see the only way to do that now is via iTunes Match.
My dilema is this... I have approximately 900+ files that I want to upgrade and don't feel like manually deleting every track, finding it in the iTunes Music Store, and then redownloading (in the iTunes Plus format).  Is there a way to do all 900+ at one time?
    Thank you,
    Keith

First you need to enable the iCloud Status, Bit Rate and Kind columns so you can see which tracks are "matched" and which are "uploaded." Any tracks that are "uploaded" will not be upgraded. To enable these columns switch to Song view then pull down View > View Options and select the appropriate check boxes then close the small window. Once this is done you can see the tracks that are protected and matched. These tracks can then be deleted from the iTunes library and the HDD (but make sure you have them backed up first, just in case) then downloaded from the cloud. They will then be DRM-free 256 Kbps AAC files.
As Jim points out you will not get a 100% match rate. The process simply isn't that good.

  • Converting Files into iTunes

I recently installed iTunes and the program transfered over my music from My music folder into iTunes it also started converting file types over. I had to stop the process of converting the file types and iTunes didn't completely convert all my files. How do I tell it to finish?
    Thanks

Just read other articles re: livewire or what eveer it is. I went to add/remove programs and immediately got rid of it. I'm not sure how it got there and have talked to other users of my computer aboutit.
Was able to copy some of my songs (some of my own compositons from midi device even) but after update ipod, couldn't transfer more songs next time I tried.

  • Is it worth keeping original iTunes files after iTunes Plus ugrade?

I saved the old ones to my desktop. It's around 100MB. Anyone keeping these? Maybe I'll drag them over to my external hard drive.

I didn't keep mine. I couldn't think of any reason to keep a lower quality version that has copy protection on it. You can always down-convert the 256 version. It would degrade the quality a little, but that would be the point if you were down-converting so I don't think it would be an issue.
You could always keep the old ones until you were sure that you got the new ones in good shape, but I'd expect Apple to replace the file you purchased if you had a catastrophic issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • Converting files with iTunes

Whenever I convert a video with iTunes the audio is not played . Only the video is shown. What can I do??

Me too. Apple people should have checked that and made it so that we can hear our videos!!!

  • How do i add videos to iphone?? i have tried all the convertors but still its not happening!! ..i cannot add or drag the converted file into itunes?? can someone please help me soon and suggest me some good video convertors for adding videos to my phone??

someone lease help me with this. for the past two days i have been hitting my head for this !!

Glad they finally added a "Home Videos" tag, but wish that it was a compeltely separate category like Music, Movies, TV Shows. Still have all my home videos tagged as a "TV Show" with track numbers to keep them in order, disc number x of 12 to indicate the month, and season used to indicate the year. Has worked nicely for years but every new version of iTunes I hope (and have suggested) that they will separate this out.
A real way to maintain home movie metadata and organization would be much appreciated. Giving Home Videos as a tab within Movies is a start, but doesn't recognize the fact that these kinds of videos are completely different from "Movies." People scroll through or look for movies by name, home videos by date or event (more like iPhoto organizes things). Nobody wants to hunt for baby's first steps in a big alphabetical list somewhere between "The Avengers" and "Willy Wonka."

  • Workflow- iTunes Convert to AAC, copy to ipod & delete converted files

I like to save my music in either Apple Lossless or MP3 (320kb) formats. Unfortunately, when I go to save these onto my ipod mini the files are too large and take up too much space. Id like to try and mimic the software that comes with an ipod shuffle where it can take any file, compress it and copy it to my ipod mini without creating duplicates in my itunes.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to create a workflow to do the following:
    1. Get selected itunes songs (any kind)
    2. Convert to AAC
    3. Copy to ipod
4 Delete the converted files in itunes
Ive looked at some of the automator actions and im a bit confused with the difference of
    - delete original selected tracks -OR-
-delete files of the original selected tracks
that are options with the "convert tracks" or "copy tracks to ipod" actions

For the record, these 3rd party actions are not part of a default Automator installation. They're available for download here.
Now, you could think of iTunes as basically a very fancy collection of aliases. When you delete a tack in iTunes, it asks if you want to move the files to the trash, or keep them in your music folder. If you select "Keep Files" what you end up with is a bunch of orphans: files that physically exist in your music folder, but are no longer accessible through the iTunes interface. You have, in effect, deleted the alias without deleting the file.
And that, as far as I can tell, is the reasoning behind the two seemingly redundant check boxes in these actions.

  • ITunes 9 can no longer encode '24bit 96khz wav' to 'iTunes plus aac'

In iTunes 8.2.1, on a G5 PPC running Leopard, if I try to convert a '24bit 96khz wav' file to 'iTunes plus aac' via iTunes, everything works fine.
However, I cannot convert this same file using iTunes 9. It gives me an error saying something like 'file cannot be converted using current iTunes encoding and bit rate'. I tried a bunch of other iTunes encoding settings to see if I could encode the file with any others, and I couldn't get any to work.
I then downgraded back to iTunes 8.2.1, and I could then encode the file as aac.
Is this a bug, or did we lose a really cool iTunes feature when transitioning from 8.2.1 to 9?
    Thanks,
    -Clayton

I got tired of waiting for Apple to provide support for this in iTunes 9, like they previously had in iTunes 8, so I gave up on waiting.
I'm using Sample Manager and a bit of AppleScripting to pre-process my upsampled audio, and get it down to 16/44.1 wav, before asking iTunes to convert it to AAC and add it to my library.
Not so happy with Apple on this one... but I get it, I'm in a small demographic... people that have upsampled audio that want an AAC copy in their iTunes library... so I'm OK with it...
I just wish that someone from Apple would have at least acknowledged this post, and admitted that they dropped support for this when moving to 9, and that they have no intention of supporting it at the current moment...

  • What Songs are iTunes Plus in iTunes 9 Store?

I just upgraded to iTunes 9. In the iTunes Store, you used to be able to tell which tracks were iTunes PLUS because they had a little "+" sign next to them. Now, none do? What does this mean? Is this a bug? Are ALL iTunes audio files now iTunes PLUS? Are none of them?
Unless something is ONLY available as the old 128kbps low-bit rate, DMR'ed file format, I will NEVER, EVER buy anything in that format. Period. I am only interested in the 256kbps, DRM-free iTunes PLUS files that are twice the bitrate and that I can play at work via VLC Portable since I can't install iTunes at work.
Can someone help me out? You can't even do a "GET INFO" on items in the store any more...
    I'd greatly appreciate any assistance/insight.
    Best Regards,
    Zack

All songs in the store are plus now...a while back they made the switch; that's when they started charging .69/.99/1.29 for tunes....that was the compromise for DRM free tunes was variable pricing for the record companies.
Most DRM tracks in your library can be converted over to plus, the exceptions are anything you have gotten as a "free" download. Pretty much everything that downloads as a free song of the week (before the change) or via a redeemable code (I picked up a free itunes sampler a couple of years back) didn't get ther DRM removed and cannot be converted to plus.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I remove the duplicates that appeared after upgrading to iTunes Plus

I upgraded some of my music to the itunes plus (better quality?) and chose to send the old files to the recycle bin. All went well. The new files were added in itunes and there were no duplicates. Later we synced an ipod touch and when asked if we wanted to transfer purchases from the itouch before syncing my son responded yes. This created duplicates of the songs. The problem is ..... How do I tell which is the upgraded song so I can delete the old version?

There are various ways of doing it.
If you go to View>>Options and ensure that "Kind" is checked, old tracks will usually say "Protected AAC..." whereas the iTunes Plus tracks as shown as "Purchased AAC".
You can use this information in a smart play list to get all the tracks you don't want together for easy deletion.
You can also Look at Get info>>Summary tab.
Oldtracks will generally have 128 bit rate and an M4p file extension. iTunes Plus tracks have 256 bit rate and an M4a file extension.

  • Will iTunes Plus files work in FCP?

Does anyone know if new iTunes Plus files will work in Final Cut Pro now that digital rights management (DRM) has been removed?  Usually when I use AAC files in FCPX the files are mute.

Compressed audio files should be converted to AIFF 48k.

  • Need to convert PageMaker 6.5 Plus files from Windows XP to PDF for Windows 7.

I need to convert PageMaker 6.5 Plus files into PDF from a Windows XP operating system to a Windows 7 operating system. It tells me I need a postscript printer. I don't have a postscript printer and really don't want to print them. I just want to transfer the files from Windows XP to Windows 7. Help!!

No, it isn't telling you that you need a PostScript printer. It's telling you that you need a PostScript printer DRIVER, which is software, not a printer.
Use the Add Printer function to add an Apple LaserWriter IINTX. That's a PostScript printer. Then try again.
I don't quite understand the Windows 7 connection, though. What are you hoping to achieve by making a PDF. You WON'T be able to edit them, if that's the idea.

  • I have converted most of my windows media files to itunes. However I had to close it down about 3 quarters of the way through. It then processed the album art. How can I convert the files that it didn't finish doing the first time? thanks

    Hi there,
hope you can help me. I helped my sister convert her window media files to itunes and set up an account for her. Unfortunately her computer is really slow and it was really late and we had to turn it off. It processed some of the album art for the files that it had converted. However, some songs were not converted and because there was quite a few left, I don't really know which ones did not get converted as I selected  all of the folders. How do I find out which ones I have left to convert and put the rest of the songs onto itunes for her please? Or are they on the itunes still as they showed up initially on itunes in the list to be converted.
    Thank you!

You could convert them all again and then dedupe, or use a Windows search to reveal all the WMA files and then try to work out which still need to be converted. If you're lucky iTunes would have processed the imports in alphabetical path order so it would just be a matter of working out where it had got up to...
