Converting files to JPEG

I have several folders each containing 25 small (about 300kb each) PNG files. Is there a way to convert
the entire folder to JPEGs or must I convert each one individually?
Thanks in advance,
Lenny.

Seems like a nice job for [Automator|http://www.macosxautomation.com/automator/index.html].

  • Converting Multiple Raw Files To Jpeg

I have Canon Raw Files I would like to convert to Jpegs. Everything appears obvious. I go to "Files>Process multiple files", activate "Convert Files To: Jpeg High Quality". I have the destination folder defined as a subfolder of the source folder and "Include All Subfolders" deactivated. When I start the process PSE opens the first image and asks me in a dialogue box where I want to save the PSD file. Of course I am not looking to save a PSD file so I hit cancel so PSE asks me if I want to end the processing process. If I have have convert to Jpeg deactivated PSE go through a routine of creating PSD files in the subfolder, only catch is I don't want PSD files.

Probably because camera raw is opening the files as 16 bits and
jpeg does not support 16 bits.
Try opening a camera raw image and in the camera raw dialog and
change the output to 8 bits and then click open image.
(in the lower left or middle bottom of the camera raw dialog to change from 16 to 8 bits)
    Now close the image.
Try the process multiple files again.

  • Why is iPhoto (Mountain Lion) importing RAW/NEF files as jpeg's?

I am manually importing via DVD's my archived iPhoto files from  iPhoto '08, (7.1.5), Snow Leopard, to my new computer running Mountain Lion. iPhoto '11 (9.4.3). Most of my files are in RAW format (NEF) and was saved as such. I am noticing that as I import from the discs into the new iPhoto, it is importing some as jpeg's and I am loosing my RAW data. I am findiing very little being imported as RAW.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there somewhere in the settings that I am not finding, to correct this? I checked all that I know to look at and I did not find anywhere an option to change the format of the image in importing.
I, also, converted files from jpeg to.tiff and saved them as such, but I am not finding any .tiff files either.
    Any info?
Thank you for any help you can give.

    OK.  WOW!
One by one!  Larry, Terence and Old Toad,
Thank you, all of you, for your helpful replies.
Firstly, I am a little confused between Larry and Terence; sounds like opposite info. Is it?
Old Toad, Now I know about this easy way to do this. I have, at least, 1T+20,000 more images, some of which I will import into my new 750 gig Macbook Pro, so this seems easy. (Already over 30,000 images. Can iPhoto hold so much???)
It seems tho, that I AM BUSTED!
Unfortunatelly, I could not import directly the old Library to the new Library because of the below reason. (even tho there seems to be some difference of opinion on this between Terence and Larry)
I did the unthinkable. I worked out of the iPhoto Library.
What I did was this: my older Macbook Pro, had a 200 gig HDD, and could NOT handle all the photos I was putting into it (which I needed to do the work I want to do), so I first downloaded the images from my camera to iPhoto, then, I downloaded,as I went along, by year, to external HDD, and then I cut DVD's, by year, in pieces, via Toast, as my backup. (both, directly from the iPhoto Library), Then, I deleted many of the photos in each event, in each year, leaving only enough to remind me what is in that event.
(Then, when I needed images from that event, I could go back to the HDD to see and get the rest of the pix I needed to use).
I KNOW this is totally SACRELIGIOUS of Mac and the whole iPhoto Library set-up, but it didn't hurt the library functioning, (in the old mac), at all, and was the only way I knew to do it, as going thru iPhoto itself, didn't work out so well.
(That is why I didn't import directly my old library to the new Mac, not all the photos were there, and I thought it would be more confusing trying to add the missing photos to each event in the new iPhoto).
However, re-importing from the HDD  to the new iPhoto, was a bit of a mess, as I got, (as 2 of you, above, said), mixed up info, as both "originals" as well as "events" downloaded, which gave me duplicates of some, and the dates are NOT necessarily in order, as was in the old iPhoto before. (but that I can reconcile, later, can't I?
Can I move events to other places in iPhoto?
However, going directly via the DVD's into the new iPhoto, gave me exact input and I got all the files as well as all the data. But, in some, very slow downloading, and very few, some date order mixup, but very few.
SO, this new iPhoto Library is a bit messed up with the duplicate images in about the first 3,000 or so images, but I assume I can fix this up.
    Oh g---d.
In any event, it is now showing RAW and jpeg's as info in the metadata pane.
Thank you , all of you. I am not so computer savy, I do better in photography!
All the help I receive is welcome and worthwhile. And if there is anymore you want to tell me, besides scolding me for going into the iPhoto Library, it is all welcome.
    I Thank you.

You can use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert proprietary raws to the universal DNG raw format. Here are the links:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 9.0
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 9.0
Converting to JPEG will be an extra step afterwards.

Is there a command in Solaris 2.6 that I can use to convert XWD files to JPEG files? The command should accept two arguments, the name of the file to be converted and the destination file.
    Thanks a lot!

You can read the xwd image with imagetool and save as
a jpg file. I just did this from the command line and
viewed the jpg file with imagetool and xv. Xwd will
allow you to only select one client on your screen
or you can dump the entire screen.

I have a bunch of raw files and I am not sure how to convert them to JPEG.  I sure would appreciate some help with this.  Thank you

As you are posting on the Canon forum, I will assume you are using a Canon camera.  Your camera came with the software you need.  It's called Digital Photo Professional.  It will also have the user manual for the software.

How are you trying to "export to Mypics"? The only way to get a Raw out of iPhoto is to export with the Kind set to Original.

  • How to convert XMP files into JPEG ones?

I need to convert 16 xmp files into jpeg or tiff ones.

XMP files are metadata files, so you are wanting to print out the text metadata associated with these 16 images? You will usually see them once a raw file (like NEF or CRW) is processed through Adobe Camera Raw. XMP files are not images.

I am new to this so I am not sure what the file size is since I'm not resizing it.
The question asked about exported image size (height and width) in pixels, not file size. Your operating system can tell you, or if you import the exported image into Lightroom, then Lightroom can tell you in the Metadata Panel, set the dropdown to EXIF.
I am printing a 5x7. I know I have tried to print with long edge set at 1024 and set to 300 ppi and had the same result with the grainy ness.
If the exported file has a long edge of 1024, then you did resize the image, there no other way to turn a RAW in to a JPG with long edge 1024. In any event, 1024 pixels is probably not large enough to fill 7 inches, that's really 1024/7=146 pixels per inch (rounded-off), and could be the cause of the "graininess" that you see, although I would use the word "pixelization" to describe what you see. So I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing, but let's go with it for now.
The solution depends on your answer to the original question, and probably depends on a clarification of how you got the image to 1024 on the long edge even though you claim you didn't resize it.

  • Converting cr2 files to jpeg files...

How do you convert several cr2 files to jpegs in lightroom?

You don't really "convert" the files to JPEG.  Those raw files are your master images that you continually maintain in Lightroom.  When you need a JPEG copy you use the export function in Lightroom to export a JPEG copy that includes all of the adjustments that you have made in Lightroom.

  • Converting RAW files to JPEG

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help. I have taken around 32 GB of RAW images on my SD card (no jpegs) - I am currently in Nepal so limited access to computer facilities. Is there a quick way to convert all these files to jpeg?

OK. You are going to need access to a computer and the CD that came with the camera. Or the internet if you don't have the CD. Excuse me if I am going too basic, but I don't know your level of experience.
The process can be very easy on your part if all you want to do is convert to JPEG; i.e. no editing.
The camera comes with software called Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP). Install it from the CD. If you don't have the CD you can download the CD image from:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_re...
Choose the appropriate operating system. Don't download DPP, download the EOS Solution disk.
You need to download the RAW files into a folder on your computer. Start DPP, select the folder the RAW files are in and choose "Select All"
Choose "Batch Process", select JPEG and click "Execute". Now go for a coffee; it will take the computer a long time to process 1000 images.
Since it seems like you are new this you might want to choose JPEG rather than RAW in your camera.
If this isn't clear respond back.
