Converting files to MP3 for

I'm trying to convert my wma files to MP3 format for various reasons. Everytime that I try it tells me that the format is not supported and the add more files also is sometimes displayed. Is there something that I'm not doing. I followed the help file to a tee but still getting no results. Thanks in advance.

You get this when trying to convert copy protected tracks i.e. ones from online music stores as converting to mp3 would remove any copy protection.
Note also that Windows Media Player copy protects by default any tracks that are ripped from your own CDs unless you go into the settings and reomve the copy protection check mark.

  • I have the latest version of iTunes and want to convert  files to MP3 - how do I do that?

I have iTunes  11.0.4 which is upgraded from 11.0.12 and I have the same problem I had before the upgrade.  The choice to convert files to MP3 no longer exists per the instructions.  Does anyone who works for Apple know how to do this?  Why would Apple take this feature away?  It was really helpful.
I will have to start using the Amazon Cloud Player if iTunes can't get this resolved.  Help!!!  I love the old iTunes, but the new one ***** - does anyone know how to overcome this problem without 3rd party software?
    Thanks!

Set up your preferred import format under Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings, then right click on a selection of tracks to convert. If you want to permanently change the format, discarding the originals, while preserving ratings, play counts and playlist membership, then try my script ConvertFormat.

  • Converting M4A to MP3 for use in Zen Mi

Can anyone recommend a good utility program (no spyware) that I can use to convert M4a files to MP3 for play in my Micro? Currently I am burning to cd then ripping again in MP3 format which is a hassle and I believe the quality declines during this conversion process. Any recommendations?
Apple had to screw it up with having their own proprietary format...

It would not be the file format conversion that would be the issue, but the DRM (digital rights management) that is in the AAC (M4A) format. Also that is not a proprietary Apple format. AAC is the audio layer of MPEG-2; Apple used it as it could carry DRM which in turn controls how you can use the music track. AAC is also quite good at high compression, ie low bit rate, but gives way to mp3 as the bit rates get higher.
You are stuck in doing what you are doing, that is burning an audio cd from your aac file then ripping/encoding to mp3 or wma to play on the Creative players.
(Makes you think about the cost of a CD vs downloading a compressed file doesn't it's)

  • Converting mp4 to mp3 for burning to CD

I can only burn an Mp3 CD if the songs are already in an Mp3 format. The problem is that my play list is all in Mp4 format. How can I convert my whole play list to Mp3's so I can make a CD? If this is possible please give step by step instructions if you can....
    Thank you.

If you want to make an mp3 CD (to put a lot of songs on one CD, as opposed to a 'regular' CD), then you have to convert your AAC files to mp3 format first, then burn as mp3 CD.
To convert your AAC files, if they are not protected you can simply change your import preferences to mp3 and then right-click on one or more songs and select "Convert to mp3...". The downside is that iTunes will create duplicates (the original AAC and mp3), and you'll lose some fidelity in transcoding like this.
If your AAC files are protected, then we're not allowed to help you get around the DRM on these boards.

  • Can I use iTunes to convert m4a to mp3 for use on my car stereo

I would like to burn a playlist to a CD for playing on my car stereo.  If I use the default audio option, the CD sounds terrible, so I guess I need to select the mp3 option instead.  When I do that, however, I'm told that my files are in m4a format and need to be in mp3 format instead.  Can I use iTunes to convert m4a files to mp3, and if so, how? I wish to retain the songs in my iTunes so I suspect I need to make copies of the original and convert the copies, but I don't know how to do this either.

Click here and follow the instructions.

  • How to convert MP4 to MP3 for export

I want to convert an MP4 file in my iTunes library to MP3 for export via email. I know how to convert a CD on import by the preferences settings. And I know I can burn an MP3 CD. I just want to take a simgle MP4 file in my library, and convert it to MP3 in order to share with someone who can't read MP4.

Ah so that's how it works.
    I understand now. Thanks.

  • Converting aac to mp3 for a cd

    Hello
Is t possible to convert my iTunes library (aac format) to mp3 in order to burn a mp3-cd? I couldn't do it, iTunes tells me that none of the songs are in mp3 format. Do I have to bring all the cd's again to my library in mp3-format? There's 7 gigabits of stuff so it'll take a while if that's the case...

Before I go into detail, with store bought Songs from iTUnes, there in a "AAC protected format" and can not be converted, you have to first burn them to a audio CD, then "Re"import them as MP3
For all other songs you will first goto edit>preferences>Advanced tab>importing sub tab and set it to MP3 and the bit rate you choose (Usually a high bit rate is better when converting songs from AAC or other formats)
With that done you can rightclick each song one by one and hit "Convert to MP3" or you can select/highlight one song, hold the shift key, and select the last song, this will highlight every song inbetween the first and last song (More on iTUnes shortcut keys here http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/shortcuts/ ) When you convert songs like this iTUnes will list 2 of the same song, one is the original, the second one will be the converted file

  • Converting files to MP3s

Does anyone know how to convert different files to MP3s? (Does anyone have a good program?) I need to do this in order to play a lot of my music on my phone
    Thanks

Yea, iTunes only converts files you've already got on your HDD to AAC. I think what this guy meant was that when you first rip the music off a CD, you can have it encoded to mp3.
If you want to convert your AAC music files to mp3, it can be done...but I don't consider that an option at all. The quality of the music is, to say the least, generally horrible. Re-encoding a compressed file doesn't lead to good things. At least that's been my experience. And even when it does produce at least mediocre results, the amount of time you pump into to converting the files is insane.
You could burn the music to CD in iTunes, then re-rip it all in iTunes as an mp3. The quality doesn't drop nearly as much as if you directly converted it, which runs against logic, but whatever. It's also how you convert nasty DRM protected music from iTunes to nice, clean, DRM free files. Of course, this takes even longer than if you directly converted the files, and forces you to use quite a few CDs (unless you're using CD-RWs, though those wear out).
Honestly, your best option is just to download everything you want off of BitTorrent. Say what you will of that, but you do already have the music on your HDD, which you (hopefully) purchased. So why should you pay again, or spend all that time re-ripping everything just to get it in a different codec? You shouldn't. And just so you don't run into this problem in the future, remember to rip/download everything as mp3, not Apple's proprietary AAC.

  • Converting itunes to mp3 for memory stick?..possible???

is it possible to transfer tunes from itunes library to a format that is able to be transfered to a memory stick for playing on a device such as a psp??...thanks

It depends what is in your iTunes library.
-If it is mp3s, no problem.
-If it is another unprotected format, use iTunes to convert it to mp3. To do this, make sure you have your import preference set to mp3. Then, right click the song and choose "Convert Selection to mp3."
-If it is songs purchased from the iTunes music store, they are in protected AAC format and the only approach is to burn them to audio CD and import them back as mp3.
Once you have what you want in mp3 format, Copy from the iTunes library, and Paste into the folder representing the memory stick.

I'm converting my itunes files, most of which are AIFF, to mp3 and I'm wondering if there's a way for me to update my playlists so that the AIFF files are replaced with the new mp3s? I'm doing it manually and it's very tedious.

  • ITunes 11...converting files to MP3 Format

I podcast using Garageband, then share the file with iTunes, where I use the advanced menu to convert to MP3...However with the latest upgrade to iTunes 11 the advanced menu is gone...so I can't see how to convert that file to a MP3 format...it seems to be gone...I need some help to see if this still can be done.  Any tips?

Ok, I am not sure if you missed my post or were trying to help too many people at the same time. I am reposting my problem....but nevermind about helping now as I figured it out via other helpful channels.
First email before I clarified my question on how to be able to transfer an mps file into Itunes:
Hi there, I have a few mp3 files that I am trying to convert to the Itunes format but once I select the following, it is not imported. I have checked several threads but it hasnt helped me.
File/Add file to library/"I select the mps file from its location on my desktop" and then just a blink happens but I do not see the file imported. I have searched for any untitled folders by album, song name but it doesnt import.
Then, I saw this post and did the following:
Edit/Preferences/General/Import Settings (clicked on it), and selected MP3 Encoder with the high quality option (however I notice it says, befor ethe drop down: When you import a CD..but I am not importing a CD, just a few files. But there is no other place I can do this for single files or a folder.
    Thanks but no thanks.
Have a good day. Maybe the folks that rated you actually got help from you which is completely reasonable.

  • Converting  file  from dvd for dvdsp

I've shot a video for someone. He was recently on a morning tv show being interviewed. he was given a copy on dvd. It is a "vr" file. He would like me to create a separate chapter in DVDSP for the footage. What do I need to do?

    Hal
Give this http://www.squared5.com/ a shot, I think it converts VR files to other formats
You would change it to either DV or other editable format (or you may able to directly demux to elements DVD SP can use)
As an FYI, the television morning has rights to the broadcast, so you want to be sure your friend is not running afoul of any restrictions - usually they do not mind if just part of a press kit for the person being interviewed, but keep it in mind
