Converting flac for iTunes.

Is there a way to convert a flac file so I can get iTunes and my 'puter both to play it?

Have you tried searching the web for "FLAC converter for Windows"?

  • Converting Videos for Itunes

I am new to Itunes. I tried to convert a video to put on my Ipod (many videos) but there is no audio after it finishes converting. what am i doing wrong?

its my understanding that after you converted it for itunes the audio went missing?
if this is so, then i suggest you use this program:
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
with the original file, and then try to put it into itunes.
ive been using it ever since i got the video ipod and it has worked brilliantly everytime.
    hope that helped.

  • Converting FLAC to itunes

    Folks,
I've purchased a Grateful Dead album, one of Dick's Picks, and downloaded them as FLAC files. I've converted the FLAC files to AIFF files using a program called XACT. Now I want to import these AIFF files into itunes and burn the tunes onto a CD.
Here's the question. How do I keep the TAGS from the original FLAC files when I burn the CD? I don't want to have to retype all the tags, but I can't figure out how to retain the tags. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bond

actually there's a shell script that will convert FLAC directly to MP3 using LAME. It will preserve the FLAC metadata and put them in the MP3 tags if there is metadata.
It does depend on having certain libraries installed, so it can be kind of advanced. But it works well once you get it working.

Another version of this idea is here (haven't tried this one):

You definitely need LAME installed. once you get it working and in your path, you just cd to the directory of the flac files and then type:
    flacmp3 *.flac
(I am using a modificaiton of the Chris R's FLACMP3 script to use LAME preset standard encoding. Here is what I'm using.)
    #!/bin/sh
    # flacmp3 - convert a flac file and its tag data to mp3/id3 format
    # Thisscript takes in FLAC files and spits out MP3 files. If youÕve assigned
    # metadata to a FLAC file (usingvctool, for example), it carries that information over to the MP3:
    # % flacmp3 *.flac
    # ThatÕs all it takes to do the job.
    # other settings for the lame line:
    #      lame -h -m s -b 192 \
    # this also has the lame command deliberately put on one line
    if [ "$1" ]
    then
      for file
        do
        if [ -e "$file" ]
        then
          flac -c -d "$file" |
          lame --preset standard --tt "$(metaflac --show-tag=TITLE "$file" | sed 's/^TITLE=\(.*\)/\1/')" --ta "$(metaflac --show-tag=ARTIST "$file" | sed 's/^ARTIST=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tl "$(metaflac --show-tag=ALBUM "$file" | sed 's/^ALBUM=\(.*\)/\1/')" --ty "$(metaflac --show-tag=DATE "$file" | sed 's/^DATE=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tn "$(metaflac --show-tag=TRACKNUMBER "$file" | sed 's/^TRACKNUMBER=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tg "$(metaflac --show-tag=GENRE "$file" | sed 's/^GENRE=\(.*\)/\1/')" - "$(basename "$file" .flac).mp3"
          mv "$file" /.Trashes/501/
        else
echo >&2 "No such file: "$file" -- skipping."
        fi
      done
    else
      echo >&2 "Usage: "$(basename "$0")" FLACFILE [...]"
      exit 1

  • Converting movies for itunes!

I have a few shows and such that arnt read by itunes and Im just wondering what program I could use to convert them so my itunes could pick them up. I have windows movie maker and I cant tell which file save itunes would read.

You need to do get info while playing each movie ckip and report the bitrates not this info, which we kind of knew - reason: the H.264 could be 5 mb/sec for one and 1 mb/sec for the other, to be clearer. You can report what the AVI is , bitrate wise as well.
Though I think Big Endian is uncompressed audio and may take up a lot of room. The AAC is much more compressed audio.
Use MPEG Streamclip, export to MPEG-4 and pick the variouos iPod/Apple TV presets and make your life a LOT easier and it is free. Does batches of files too. I don't ever use QT itself, as MPEG Streamclip uses it as the engine.
iTunes won't have a problem, if the bitrates exceed the iPod limits they won't play on an iPod. I am pretty sure the Big Endian audio won't at all.
You can change a MOV file to a music video in iTunes merely by changing the setting under Video when you do get info on it.

There have been no announcements, and we as users cannot speculate.  However, don't hold your breath.

  • I know how to convert WMA to AAC/MP3 for Itunes

I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by "Kind". Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.

Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.

  • How to convert wma files for iTunes

I will appreciate any help from anyone who shows me how to play wma audio files in Itunes. I do not want to use an outside non-Apple  audio video converter. The quick time program plays the audio file but I do not know how to bring it in the Itunes Library.
    Thank you

    Converting WMA Files
In iTunes for Windows, you can convert your unprotected WMA files to AAC files (or whatever file format is chosen in the Importing pane of iTunes Preferences) without changing the original WMA file. Simply drag the WMA files into your library in iTunes and iTunes does the grunt work, converting them for you. Windows Media Player 9 or later must be installed to convert unprotected WMA files. Protected WMA files cannot be converted.

  • Is there a fix for itunes 10.5 win xp and/or is there a way to convert my itunes library to 128/256k/bps (vbr)so songs are listenable?

RE:ROBOT NOISE  WIN XP BITRATE PROBLEM..is there a fix or is there one on the way for itunes 10.5 for win xp bit rate problem,a.k.a. :robot noise, and or is there a way to convert my music files to itunes plus - 128/256kbps(vbr) as this is the only format that plays right?

I don't know of any utilities that can repair audio files, just as there is no auto-picture repair utility. However, due to the structure of an aac file (and for iTunes they all come "wrapped" in an mp4 wrapper), it depends on where the damage is. Your aac file is actually comprised of around 60 'atoms' and only 1 of them ("mdat") is the audio. If the damage occurred in a non-mdat atom, you might be able to resurrect your m4a file.
See if you can open these songs in Quicktime Player, and export then as AIFF, and then re-import them using iTunes. You can also direct copy the audio track with a more comprehensive tool called MP4Box (part of an opensource tool called "gpac"). You can get a mp4box binary in a tool called ffmpegx. You'll have to choose "show package contents" and use it Terminal.app's command line:
    /Supply/path/to/--->/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources/MP4Box -add ~/Desktop/Closer.m4a#audio -new ~/Desktop/try.m4a
(substitute the ~/Desktop paths with your files; note: you depending on your files, the '#audio' might need to be replaced with '#TrackID=1' or appropriate number).
I would advise you to try the mp4box way first (to minimize audio loss with multiple conversions) and listen to each song, checking each. If it fails, then I would try the Quicktime way. If that fails, I would go back to the source material. Whether you use Quicktime or mp4box, you'll loose the metadata. You'll need to re-do that.
and I agree with dwb that iTunes didn't cause it. I would save things to cdr/dvdr before your data loss gets larger.

  • Converting a wma file (windows media audio) to a Mp3 file for iTunes.

I copied all of my music from my external harddrive that i have had for a long time now onto my MacBook. Some of the files were wma while most were Mp3. is there anyway that i can convert the files on my mac to make them mp3 and playable on my itunes and put on my nano. I have tried many times to add the songs to my library and then convert them, but they don't appear in my library but they still play when i use quicktime.

The files play in Quicktime likely because you have the Flip4Mac plugin installed. As for iTunes, it doesn't support WMA files, so they won't be imported.
You can try EasyWMA to convert the WMA files to MP3, M4A, or WAV. I have not tried this program, though.
    Hope this helps,

  • Sound is gone for iTune videos that convert to iPod

I have a problem. I load movies into iTunes, and they work. But as soon as I convert them for iPod, the sound is gone. It's not just one file, its all of them. Something must be wrong with iTunes cause I know more than that should work.

    Parkram412,
You can always contact tech support: http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Do any videos play correctly in iTunes? If there is a problem with iTunes playing all videos this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706 may help
Videos that did not come from the iTunes store are going to be harder to troubleshoot because there are many ways the video's could have been created. Another article that has good information on video conversion for the iPod is: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302892

  • "Convert Selection for Apple TV" in iTunes

When I control-click on a movie in iTunes and select "Convert Selection for Apple TV" - the movie converts but when I sync it to the Apple TV there is no audio. It plays the other files fine.
Is this a setting in iTunes or quicktime or is it just faulty computer hardware?

Your source file is likely a muxed file, you will need to convert these files in another application. Mpeg streamclip is free and does the job.

  • Converting XviD movies for iTunes

I have quite a few XviD music videos that I would like to import into iTunes that I can watch with Apple TV. I purchased QuickTime Pro yesterday and I exported a couple of videos, one to QuickTime Movie (.mov) and one for Apple TV (.m4v) to see what the difference is.
    A 50MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 140MB Quicktime movie.
A 44MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 74MB Apple TV movie.
    My questions are:
Is the quality of the .mov better than the .m4v?
Is there any other benefit (for iTunes or Apple TV) of one over the other.
I would like to group these into iTunes with some organization, but currently they both show up in the Movies section. Is there a good way to organize movies by artists?
    Thanks for your help!

You need to do get info while playing each movie ckip and report the bitrates not this info, which we kind of knew - reason: the H.264 could be 5 mb/sec for one and 1 mb/sec for the other, to be clearer. You can report what the AVI is , bitrate wise as well.

You can change a MOV file to a music video in iTunes merely by changing the setting under Video when you do get info on it.
