Converting Flash 6/AS1 file to FLCS4/AS3 file
I'm building a flash site for a friend who handed me a canned template he purchased and wants me to work off of. The template is sh*t! It was created in Flash 6 with no named layers and sporadic AS1 all over the place (attached to objects mostly). I've only worked with AS2 and 3--mostly 3--so I don't even want to try to work with the older code.
I re-saved the file in Flash CS4 and re-published in AS3. Several messages popped up in the output window saying that all flash attached to objects will be ignored. So if I rewrite the scripting in AS3 can I just leave the older code attached to the objects since it will be ignored anyway? Sloppy, I know, but the reason for leaving it in (at least until I'm done rescripting) is so I can see what was originally going on.
Thanks,
David
you won't see that code doing anything in the as3 file so you should remove all of it.
you can save an original in flash 6 so you can see how the app is supposed to work.

How do I change an AS2 file to an AS3 file?
I have just started learning Flash, and I have been doing some online tutorials. They told me to create AS2 files for the tuts. I now started on my own project, and I created an AS2 file to do it, but now I am reading that I really should just learn AS3 because it is much more efficient. I have put a lot of work into my project, but I have not created any action script yet. It is all art and pathing right now. So I think this would be the best time to switch it over to AS3 if I can. First off: can I? And Second: How?
Thanks.AS3 is a superset of AS2 and can be easily converted. AS3 to AS2 is a much harder shift language wise. This resource will get you started:

I converted aif files to mp3 files in iTunes so I could put them on a flash drive. Now when I transfer an album to the flash drive I get both the aif files and the mp3 files on the flash drive. How do I get the iTunes to only copy the smaller file?
My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules. You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard. -
AS3 file crashes Flash on save
Hi,
For the past 2 days every new AS3 file I try to create crashes Flash on every attempt at a save AFTER the initial save. All was fine for months for a couple of projects we are working on. I've reset the Flash prefs as Adobe instructs, trashed the copies of the files on this machine, run disk utility and Onyx. Nothing helps. I can't think of anything out of the ordinary that happened this week that would've caused something like this to happen. Also, I've searched since yesterday and this doesn't seem to be an issue with anyone else. My Flash 5 app is fine if I don't use external .as files or put code in the actions box.
Any ideas? You might try searching / posting in the Flash General forum instead of the Actionscript 3 forum.

How do I convert an SWF file to a MOV file with Flash 8?
I have all the files that created the SWF (this is something that was developed on my computer, not an SWF I took off the internet)
I haven't seen Flash 8 in a long time. Take a look at the export options if it was already there: Main menu -> File -> Export -> Export movie -> file extension *.mov

Convert standard video files in to flv file at run time
Hello All
How can we convert standard video files in to flv file at run
time like
you tube and
Google Video is there any
script or tool to do this. This is urgent.
I have one project in this project client requiring function
like whatever standard video file he upload, it will be play in
.flv formate
Any help is appreciated
Naved AnsariI think you need the Macromedia Flash Media Server to be able
to do what you are asking. Flash 8 can with a Flash Video Encoder
but it does not do it on the fly. There maybe other 3rd party
servers that you can sign-up that allow you do this but if you are
looking for your own solution you will need the FMS 2.0.

Convert flash QT.mov to WMV or MPG
Please help!
Does anyone know the simplest way to convert a flash
animation Quicktime movie to WMV or MPG?
This is a rush, I'm working under deadline. Originally, I was
told QT.mov was acceptable format.
Now, I'm being told that their server can only handle WMV or
MPG. When they tried to convert the
QT file it was converted without the audio track. I've tried
to download serveral of the free shareware converters -- no luck.
(either corrupted or some glitch occurs or company logo is
embedded in converted file).
I know AE (AfterEffects) to some degree and I believe I can
export to WMV of MPG there. But this is a huge file,
trying to download it now at a cybercafe with two T1 lines --
still it's "watching paint dry".
Please anybody, any suggestions, please.
Thank you.I think the simpliest way converting flash into video - use
Flash To Video
Encoder.
recommendation for
Adobe Premiere
is a good one too -
There are some strange problems when i used swc files in my as3 project
Hello everyone,
My development environment: fdk4.0, flash cs5.5, I publish fla file by using flash cs5.5, publish setting is fp version :10.0&10.1 ->swc. I imported swc files to my as3 project and complied them by using flex sdk4.0. When i run my project,fp was crash. when i republished on fp 10.2, the project works. Is there any reason?
another strange problem, for example a MovieClip's aslink named "A" in swc, it has a textfield named "subText". I write code like below:
var mc:A = new A();
mc.subText.text = "test";
when mc called "subText" , fp throws null property error, it can't find subText.. very small number of movieclips have this problem, I sloved this by duplicating a new one and rename it.
but i don't know why ?
thank you for your reply.I should have figured that out from your original post. I think there is a possibility that your bookmarks/history database (places.sqlite) has a corrupted record. Rather than take drastic action on that immediately, could you do a test? The test is to exit Firefox, rename your existing database, and restart Firefox. Firefox should import your last bookmarks backup. You then could check whether the problem remains or whether you got a clean restore of bookmarks. After the test, assuming you prefer to retain your history, you could undo the procedure and try restoring your bookmark backup into the database to see whether that overwrites the problem record. If not, then we would go back to possible drastic action.
'''Test procedure''':
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''places.sqlite''' to something like places_20130614.sqlite. Keep this window open.
Restart Firefox. By design, Firefox should import your last automatic bookmark backup.
If you return to the Library dialog, how does it look?
'''To reverse the test''' (but preserve a backup of your history/bookmark database):
Exit Firefox
Delete the newly created places.sqlite file
Right-click copy and paste the places_20130614.sqlite and rename the copy to places.sqlite
Restart Firefox and open the Library dialog. Should look like it did a few minutes ago before any changes.
''If the test showed no corruption,'' try to restore your last bookmarks backup. The procedure is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
Does any of that get us closer to a solution? -
How to remedy sharing violations when saving an AS3 file.
Since installing Flash CS4 (I previously had CS3) I've had a rather annoying problem that is really cutting into my productivity.
If I 'Test Movie' or 'Debug Movie' and then switch back to my actionscripting window and make changes and then try to save without closing the movie, I receive a sharing violation notification. I then have to close the movie and wait for at least 3 seconds after doing so before a save will succeed without giving a sharing violation.
I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you do it hundreds of times in a day it really eats up time and interrupts workflow.
Anybody know how to remedy this? I've tried creating fresh AS3 files in fresh locations but to no avail. I can find no similar references to it using google.
Thanks in advance. Here's the dialog:As there's not been a single response, is there any way to pass my question on to support proper, and get the answer added to the knowlege base? This is rather important I think.

I have made a very large flash animation (1920 x 1080, 40fps)
with the intention of converting it so some other format (.avi,
.mpg, .vob, etc...) so that it can be played on a digital media
player (
http://www.mvixusa.com/).
I have successfully made the flash file but am unable to
convert it without some significant loss in framerate, resolution,
or quality. My machine is well equipped (quad-core Phenom, RAID,
etc...) and I have access to CS3 master collection but have been
unable to find a solution so far. You can see a sample here:
http://aquarium.org/oddwaterTesting/odd3.htm
I have tried exporting directly from flash, using after
effects, and a handful of other dinky "flash converter" programs
that seem to be meant for converting flash to lo-res handheld video
or pirating online content. I need to find a solution asap. Any
help you can give me is appreciated.quote:

then of course you're going to experience loss in frame rate. You
should have done your homework before setting up the file. For
television, the frame rate is approximately 30 fps (actually 29.97)
in NTSC (North America) and 25 fps in PAL (much of the rest of the
world). There are other "standard" frame rates for HD video,
including 59.94 and 60. But not 40. Compressed Quicktime, AVI and
MPG is often rendered at 15 fps so as to make less gargantuan files
and be playable on websites and handheld devices. This is done by
skipping or interlacing every other frame. from an original created
at 30 fps. But your 40 fps is an odd rate which wouldn't compress
easily. Perhaps your media player is configured to play back movies
only at standard rates.
Awesome. This is the problem I was having. I actually had
done some research and found that different types of encoding used
different framerates and just settled on 40 since its a good high
number. I anticipated possibly having to change the FPS so I made
sure that the only sount is ambience, this way nothing besides the
overall speed is messed up.

As a test, try building a small, temporary animation file at
30 fps and see whether you experience the same problems.
This is what I did eventually changing the entire file to 30
fps.
As a side note is there a standard framerate for HD? -
I have had a look around the forums but i am still not completley clear on this:
I have an animation made on Flash MX 2004 saved as a .swf file that opens in Flash Player, do i need a previous version of Flash to turn my animation in Quicktime?, How do i do it
Or if there is an easier format to export into can someone tell me
Also, does anyone know how to make a Flash .swf into a moving avatar
Thanks, GFollow Colin's advice for the answer.
Easiest method is to open your Flash project and "Publish" it to QuickTime using the Flash 5 format. This file can be opened with QuickTime. QuickTime Pro would allow you to save as which would put your Flash file into a .mov container. It would just be a .swf inside a .mov file and would retain audio and mouse actions.
To convert to .gif (animated) would require you export from QuickTime Pro to Image Sequence and then assemble these frames using a GIF builder app like Image Ready or GIFBuilder. -
Fla written made in Flash MX/AS1 jerks when published in Flash8/AS2
Have an old fla written made in Flash MX/AS1 which run OK.
Opened it in Flash-8, changed publishing settings from AS1 to
AS2.
The resulting SWF runs jerking.
What might be the reason? It works, but slowly as if somer AS1 code is interpreted into
very
ineffective machine code by AS2 interpretor
My question was if it is know which particular AS1 features
have these
problems in AS2

AS3 menu to AS2 file back to AS3 menu?????
*Also I should note, that the actions on the As3 file is coded on the frame. The actions in the AS2 file is coded on the corresponding button.
I believe AS3 was not supported until Flash Player 9, so you would need at least that to open an AS3 file, though it is possible you would need an even newer player version if the file was created using a more recent version of Flash.

Why does "only" my Adobe flash profession CS6 can't export avi. file?
Why does Adobe flash profession CS6 can't export avi. file?
but when I watch Youtube video, there are avi file format option in CS6!!!!!!!
Can anybody help me?
WHY?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Flash uses the Adobe Media Converter to create the video output. If you select the "Use Media Converter" option after selecting to output to Quicktime, and, if your computer has the AVI codec installed, you should be able to export to an AVI file.

Can PS convert Flash images to .jpg?
Hey all - I've used Firefox to save a series of images pulled from an Adobe Flash slideshow on Flickr. Does Photoshop have the ability to convert these files to .jpg? Would it be as easy as doing a "File...Save As", or will I need to incorpotate another program? I have the Master Collection, if any of those would be required. Thanks for your help.
I don't think that you can open flash files in photoshop
And I don't know if other program could do. As far as I know, you can produce flash files in Director bat files like yours can not be opened and take images back from them.
Although a solution you can use is to "capture" the image with the print screen faction, explaining:
ran the flash file
and when you see the picture you like, hit the "print screen" button (key) on your keyboard, it is somewhere at the upper right corner on keyboard, normally next to "scroll lock" key. The text on the key that you are looking fo is "Prt Sc" or something like that.
Next go to photoshop, select new file from file menu,
and when new file opens, select paste from the edit menu, and you see your screen of when you used the print screen.
Now you only have to crop the image from flash out of the whole image.
good luck
