Converting fonts in PSD between Text Engines

Helo all,
I get to the really distressful situation. I have been working on a big project in Photoshop CS6 and I did not noticed that the Text Engine Option was set to Middle Eastern. After a lot of layers has been added and lot of texts as well (using Trebuchet font) I have noticed that the Photoshop automaticaly replaces "st" with a character with ligature between "s" and "t". So I tried to switch of the Ligatures options under Open Type options, but it has been greyed out.
I thought that changing Text Engine Options to East Asian, restarting the Photoshop and reopen the PSD could solve the problem, but it did not. I do not want to start over because it took me hours to make the design.
So my simple question is:
Is there a way to convert existing Text layers in PSD file created in Middle Eastern Text Engine to East Asian Text Engine?

Sorry to hear that.  I wasn't sure.
One other workaround that came to mind...  What if you created a new text layer and typed just "st", then drag the insertion cursor across just those two letters and use Copy (e.g., Control-C).  Can you paste the non-ligature "st" combination into the existing text layers in place of the offending "st" characters?

  • Integrating the new text engine with other Adobe products?

    Hello,
    Is there any plan to integrate the new text engine with other
    adobe products that dos not support RTL languages?
    In famous products like AfterEffects or Director, No way to
    type correctly arabic text or (rtl) generally - The only way is
    converting the text to a graphic format in an external program !!
    And there is no Middle East versions for these products.
    So, I wish adobe thinks to take this step in near future.
    Thank you,

    I found this blog post about an unsupported feature in CS4 products for Arabic, Indic and other scripts.
    http://www.thomasphinney.com/tag/indesign/
    Since several Adobe products such as After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator use the same text engine you might want to try copy-pasting Arabic text from the Photoshop CS4 template provided in this blog post to After Effects CS4 and see if it works.  AFAIK Director uses a different text engine from PS, AI and AE.

    Good luck!

    Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

    I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?
    Regards
    Mike

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialised".

    This problem has just started, only with CC 2014. It doesn't happen with CC or CS6.
    When I open a particular layered file, then Duplicate it, then close the original Master file I get the "text engine" warning box when I try to enter text in the copy file.
    If I enter text in the original Master file - no problem.
    If the Master file is still open and I try to enter text in the copy file  - no problem.
    I've validated all my fonts in Font Book, deleting all the duplicates and one corrupt font. No change to problem.
    I've gone to User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC2014/ and trashed the CT Font Cache folder. No change to problem.
    I've run PS Update.
    Running OS 10.9.3.
    Any suggestions?

    I'm having the same issue on my work computer. I found this info in Adobe's help section.
    Issue
    When you use the Type Tool, you receive the following error:
    "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text ending from being initialized."
    To the top
    Solution
    Close Photoshop, clear the font cache, and restart.
    Exit Photoshop.
    In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/CT Font Cache folder.
    Move these two files to the Recycle Bin:
    AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst
    AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst
    Empty the Recycle Bin.
    Restart Photoshop.
    To the top
    Additional information
    This issue can occur after you uninstall and reinstall Photoshop several times.

  • How to set the desired font to the selected text in textframe?

    Hi,
    I want to change the font(let's say Times New Roman) of selected text in textframe when I click on  menu-item of my plug-in.
    I went through the Adobe Text Engine documentation and  tried some code for setting font but failed. I don't see any member function in IFont class to set desired font, so unable to move forward.
    plz see the code. I would like to know one more thing that how can we set a particular font for a textframe?
    TextRangesRef rangesRef = NULL;
    result = sAIDocument->GetTextSelection(&rangesRef);
    aisdk::check_ai_error(result);
    ITextRanges ranges(rangesRef);
    if (ranges.GetSize() > 0)
         ITextRange range = ranges.Item(0);
         ICharFeatures features = range.GetUniqueLocalCharFeatures();
         IFont  font;                     // I don't see any method to put desired font.
       // features.SetFont();
    Thanks.
    D.A

    First, get the font:
    AIFontKey fontKey = 0;
    AIErr error = sAIFont->FindFont("Times New Roman Regular", kAIAnyFontTechnology, kNativeAIScript, 0, &fontKey);
    // do something with error
    ATE::FontRef fontRef = 0;
    error = sAIFont->FontFromFontKey(fontKey, &fontRef);
    // do something with error
    ATE::IFont font(fontRef);
    Then, apply it like this:
    ATE::TextRangeRef textRangeRef = 0;
    AIErr error = sAITextFrame->GetATETextRange(handle_to_artwork, &textRangeRef);
    // check error
    ATE::ITextRange textRange(textRangeRef);
    ATE::ICharFeatures charFeatures = textRange.GetUniqueLocalCharFeatures();
    charFeatures.SetFont(font);
    textRange.ReplaceOrAddLocalCharFeatures(charFeatures);
    There are a few other ways to set the text, but you need to understand how character & paragraph styles interact with each other to understand the differneces. This is the most straight forward way to do it though.

  • Error: prevented the text engine from being initialized

    I am getting the following error when attempting to use the text tool with my photoshop (12.0) - windows 7.
    "could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized"
    I've attempted to follow some posts from others to fix without success.
    There are two fonts in my fonts folder that are shortcuts - and the fonts don't exist in the folder. Also, I can't delete the shortcut font from the fonts folder.
    (I'm posting this now... and might have a solution. Just in case, I want this conversation started.)
    TIA,
    Greg

    Usually that means that you have a corrupt font or a corrupt OS font cache.
    See this document for more troubleshooting steps: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html
    Also, make sure you have all the Photoshop updates installed.

  • Illustrator CS3/CS2 text engine comaptibility with CS

    Is the text engine in Illustrator CS2 and CS3 backward compatible with Illustrator CS? We are considering upgrading to a newer version but need to understand the impact on the original text - much of which is in foreign languages.

    The basic text engine changed at AI 11 (CS) and, to the best of my knowledge, has remained the same since.
    If you can't get a clear answer from Adobe on this, post a small test file created in AI 11. (Use a font we're likely to have, e.g, Arial Unicode.) Those of us here with 12 and 13 will then open it and report the results.
    If you haven't yet seen it,
    here
    is Mordy Golding's original post on the new text engine, now archived as FAQ #5.

  • TEXT ENGINE ERROR

    When I opened a PS file with a text layer, that I wanted to change, an error message popped up saying the "text engine could not be initalised". STUCK!!!  I am not able to use the text tool in ANY of my PS files anymore! I got a iMac and CS6, did not upload any new fonts lately BUT updated to Yosemite and updated to onone Photo Suite 9. No crashes or any other catastrophies with my Mac lately. Living in AUSTRIA and using my system in german,see screenshot...

    Same problem with text module error
    Any solution, Adobe guys?

  • Text engine won't initialize PS CC 2014

    I get the "could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initailized."
    Have tried trashing font cache files, un-install, re-install. reset all tools. What else can I try?
    I have PC  Windows 7 Prof
    i5-3570 CPU 3.40 GHz  processor
    8:00GB RAM
    64 bit
    All help appreciated!

    Two other suggestions to consider if this fails:
    Change font preview size
         1. Go to "type"
         2. select "Font preview size"
         3. select "none"
    Delete system font cache
    Close all Adobe applications including the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to \Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\Appdata\Local
    Delete the *FNTCACHE*.DAT or *FontCache*.dat files.
    NOTE: The asterisk (*) indicates various numbers, letters, or words, such as FontCache-S-1-5-21.dat or COFFfntCache.dat.

  • Controling space between Text Items when using htp.p('HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT')

    I'm using the following code inside a table tag within a loop to generate a multi-row printable form
    htp.p('<td cellspacing="0" align="right" width="100%" style="font-size:8pt">'||HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(p_idx=>2,p_size=>1)||'</td>');
    I'm still getting gaps between rows.
    How do I control the space between each row ? I want each text item row packed up like a spreadsheet with no gaps between rows. Although not shown (border="0") there is the enclosing table cell for each field, so what I want is no cellspacing and maximized item height within each cell.
    But with the above code I'm getting...
    etc.
    but I want
    Anyone know how to do this?
    regards
    Paul P

    Hi Chris , how's it goin'...
    thanks for the response. I know how to control a table cell area's height but it's the height of the inner textitem that I'm having trouble with. When I turn on border="1" There's not much space left between cells, just the default width of a line. I just don't know how to expand the height of the text item. The CSS code you suggested, where do I put the code and how do I apply it?
    Here is the guts of the PLSQL report code
    for des_rec in des_cur loop
    htp.p('<table height="100%" width="95%"border="0">');
    htp.p('<tr>');
    htp.p('<td style="font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial" width="80%" nowrap >'||
    des_rec.DES_SERVICE_DESC||'</td>');
    htp.p('<td cellspacing="0" align="right" width="5%" style="font-size:8pt">'||
    HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(p_idx=>2,p_size=>1)||'</td>');
    htp.p('<td cellspacing="0" align="left" width="5%" style="font-size:8pt">'||
    HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(p_idx=>3,p_size=>1)||'</td>');
    htp.p('</tr>');
    htp.p('</table>');
    end loop;

  • Flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS

    In AS3,  flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS  seems to not have the desired effect (Specifies that all lowercase characters use small-caps glyphs on  output.). It only makes everything upper case. I've searched the forums and Google and my conclusion is that this is a bug in AS3. Can someone confirm that? If not a bug what is the trick? I am using the code prrovided by Adobe here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/flash/text/engine/ElementFormat.html#typogra phicCase for class ElementFormatExample and I changed
    ef1.typographicCase = flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.UPPERCASE;
    to
    ef1.typographicCase = flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS;
    also tried SMALL_CAPS with no luck.
    What I need is to output the first letter as uppercase and larger than the rest of the letters in the words, and 2nd letter to end also in uppercase but smaller font size (the smal caps glyph).
    Thanks.

    Did you ever figure out a work-around or find out if this just isn't an option? I've tried applying my small-caps style every way I can possibly think of to no avail. If I take away the <cfdocument...> the HTML renders fine and even passes validation on W3C. I'm assuming that PDFs just don't support that style. I just wanted to see if you had any other info on this since I can't seem to find any other posts from users trying to do this.
    Thanks!

  • Large spacing between text

    I have large spacing between texts in plenty of programs in my Mac. It will show up in certain sites in Safari, Opera, and Firefox. Also in ITunes, Text edit, yahoo messenger, those are the only ones I've noticed. The spacing is only between lines of text and the spaces in between can be almost 2 inches big. I noticed too that in yahoo messenger and in text edit the font will be in 10 pt, but the cursor will be 72 pt big, but the text typed remains at 10 pt.
    I do recall a time before I updated to Tiger that I deleted some fonts or maybe a plug-in. I'm not sure if this is a missing plug-in issue or a font issue. I've tried fixing the font settings in each of the softwares/browsers mentioned above and it didn't make a difference. Please help!! It's incredibly annoying and still haven't found a solution to this problem.

    Thank you!! I went through Font Book and I didn't have duplicates for Courier in there, but I do have Suite Case and noticed that I had tons of duplicates and damaged fonts. I haven't gone through each damaged font yet, but I did quit suitcase and the problem was fixed. I decided to get rid of Suitcase anyways, because I don't like the software. Thank you so much for helping me with this problem. It's been such a nuisance for several months now.

  • Problem with "Text Engine?"

    I have been on photoshop all day (cs6) with no problems, and now after an hour break for dinner when I open the program I get a message saying that something is preventing the text engine from initializing.............Have had this program for quite some time and neve this issue, can anyone help, it would be greatly apprecciated!!??

    Most likely it means you installed a corrupt font on your system, but could also mean that the OS font cache is corrupt and returning bogus information.
