Converting from .doc to .html

Hi,
I am utilizing Word 2003 to type my policies and procedures.
I am then using RoboInfo Publisher to convert them to html files.
However when I do this, all of the formatting, bullet points,
tabs, etc. goes out the window and the documents look the same and
are not usable for my nurses. There must be something that I am not
doing either in WORD or in ROBO that will allow the document to
look the same on both ends. Can anyone lend some assistance with
this.

This all depends on how you have your cascading style sheets
(.css) setup. If, for instance, you have a heading in your word
document formatted as Heading 1 whatever formatting associated with
it in Word (bullet points, font size, font type, color, etc.) will
carry through to Robo unless you apply a certain style sheet to it
after you import it into Robo. Style sheets in Word are typically
visible next to the font type in the standard toolbar. If not
present, they can be located under Format > Styles and
Formatting. You can set up a style sheet that formats Heading 1 (or
whatever you choose to call it) a certain way, Normal a certain
way, etc., apply this style sheet to each of your procedures, and
all of the formatting associated with that style sheet will present
itself. This saves tons of time as well as keeps everything
consistent. I hope this helps.

  • Hyperlink cross-references not converted from doc to pdf

    Hi,
We are having some problems converting word documents to pdf. This is a standard part of our day to day work, we convert docs to pdf all the time. We use acrobat 7 professional and Office Professional 2003. The symptom is that hyperlinks are not all being converted in the pdf. The TOC is fine but after that the links do not always work. Right now i have downgraded a workstation back to adobe 6 professional and i'm running a conversion on that of one of our docs that doesn't convert properly. Otherwise i have tried all the settings in the conversion settings window, i have tried saving the doc as an xml first.
So i have some docs which convert perfectly and some which convert except for dead hyperlinks. I can't see anything wrong with the hyperlinks. I've also tried different workstations, it's always the same result.
Has anyone else seen anything like this and if so can you suggest any way forward apart from recreating a million hyperlinks in the converted pdfs?
    thanks

From Word I select 'convert to Adobe PDF' from the Adobe PDF menu.
We convert word docs to pdf as part of the daily running of the business.
We always use PDFMaker and not the adobe pdf printer.
Before now hyperlinks were converting fine.
I have tried previously to update acrobat, it seems to be stuck on the 7.1.0 update.
When I search for new updates it just installs the 7.1.0 update again - i have 3 workstations like this.
They have been like this for a long time, i had in fact stopped attempting to update them - adobe has worked fine up til now and it is in daily use.
Maybe this is the root of the problem.
I will try and get one up to date on 7.1.2 and run a conversion and see what happens.

I think, there are so many problems that we start to build the webpage from the beginning in html 5.  Regards Marlise

It looks like you have a variety of issues here:
    1) Missing fonts. Just like with anything else, you need to have the fonts you use in a file available on the machine where you are trying to utilize that file. I'm guessing the FLA was created on a different machine than where you ran Wallaby. Wallaby is just trying to make you aware that it is changing the fonts since it couldn't access the original font on the system where it was run.
    2) Complaints about filters. At this time CSS3 doesn't support filters so these will be dropped in the FLA to HTML5 conversion. Starting with HTML5 will not help you here. You'd have to create your content in a different way in HTML5, change the content in Flash to not have filters, or just ignore the warnings in Wallaby and accept the visual differences. However, sometimes the visual differences w/o filters are too dramatic.
    3) Complaints about compiled clips. Likely because of the use of components within the FLA. Wallaby doesn't support actionscript at this time and compiled clips use actionscript. Depending on what components you are using, trying to recreate similar content in HTML5 from scratch may be difficult.
    4) Complaints about tween color transforms. These are effectively filters and fall in the same bucket as #2 above.
    5) Complaints about dynamic masks. This first release of Wallaby only works with static non-moving content in masks.
    6) Complaints about audio. This first release of Wallaby doesn't support sound.
We are actively working on a new release of Wallaby and will continue to add more features to make the transition from FLA to HTML5 easier.

  • How do I convert from Adobe Edge HTML to a YouTube vid?

I'm new to Adobe Edge, but have successfully built a fairly lengthy and complex animation - only now, the client wants to make it into a YouTube video. The only way I can find to do this, as suggested elsewhere, is to attempt a screen capture using Camtasia, Screenflow or similar. I've done this, but cannot get a smooth recording. Has anyone got a better solution, please?

so, went to that link, Rick, and downloaded a free trial version of what turns out to be PlayClaw... loaded it onto a pc and then discovered it needs an activation code, which despite trawling through a bunch of youtube vids, i haven't managed to get to work. Frustrating, because some reviewers suggest it is pretty good. I don't want to fork out for a paid version, in case it's not. I want a solution from within adobe's zillions of software packages, ideally.
Meanwhile, i've started rebuilding the whole thing in Flash - a thankless task, because Edge imports svg files, where-as Flash imports eps files, so i'm having to convert all my assets first whilst i'm at it... a tedious process. Somewhere in the back of my mind i have this fear that down the line i'll have to redo it all again in AfterEffects for some as-yet unknown reason...

  • Border on JPEG when converted from doc to PDF

When I convert a document to PDF some of the jpegs have a border on the left side and across the top. It has been happening for awhile, I have updated to the current reader 10.3, I am using Win 7 and Office 2007. I am able to create a pdf without the borders on another computer that is using XP and Office 2007.

Looks like a issue of Office 2007.

  • Convert doc to rtf or doc to html

Is there any approach to convert the doc files to html or rtf format? The appache poi just provides the read facilities not the converting facilities.
It's not the problem to convert from rtf to html using XSL transformation.
But what about doc to rtf. Probably there already written solutions using poi or smth. else?

Two projects that spring to mind are Apache POI and Apache FOP.
    POI:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html
    FOP:
    http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/
Either way, you are in for some tough development if you want to do this using Java, and you might want to consider switch to a more suitable platform such as .NET. Word documents are highly microsoft specific so you will want to use a microsoft platform to work with them for the least amount of headaches and risks.

  • Uploading External Documents (*.doc, *.pdf, *.html) using JSP, Servlets, JDBC

I would like to upload external documents to an Oracle 8.16 db without using agents or interMedia.
Documents can range from *.doc, *.pdf, *.html and so forth. Ive been all over OTN and all I keep finding are examples on uploading Audio, Video or Image data - which is fine.. but damn, can we get a couple "Real World" examples in there?
Im even looking at iWorkplace which is excellent.. but a little out of my league when it comes to uploading external documents. But that's exactly what Id like to do. The documentation on this issue is very scarce - Please help.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone having problems loading text files using this routine? I can load a file with this, but even though the table contains a CLOB, the file is uploaded as binary and one only sees a series of question marks when looking at the CLOB. So, basically, the file appears to be converted somehow from text to binary. Any thoughts? I'm using 8.1.6.0.0 on Sun Solaris 2.7. character set in the database is UTF8.
    Thanks.

  • Preserving HTML links when converting Word docs

I created a document in MS Word for Mac 2011 (ver 14.5.2)
When I used Adobe Pro 11 to convert the document into pdf format, all the HTML links are lost.
I have tried converting from MS Word, opening the word version with Adobe Pro, printing from MS Word to pdf.  Nothing works. Even opened the MS Word document using Apple's Pages software, re-formatted and then converted to pdf.  Still no live links.
Best work around so far is to convert and then use the edit feature in Adobe Pro to re-insert the HTML links as invisible rectangles on top of the still-blue-and- underlined text.  So to the user it looks like the html links are still live, but what a pain for editor.
I have seen this issue raised in other posts, but none of the answers seem to work. And the work around described above is clearly less than ideal.
Very curious, as reading other posts, the issue apparently does not arise when the word doc converted from a Wintel computer.  But I can't imagine Adobe writes software one way for Intel and another for Mac.

Imagine it. this has been 15 year fued between Microsoft and Adobe.  Adobe Claims that Mac office doesn't hav ethe proper hooks for URLs. Microsoft says the fault is with adobe.
Since a Word Created file will work when opened in the windows version  and saved as a PDF, the links work just fine. Just opening and not saving, but converted to Pdf does nothing to the actual Word File.
They had it fixed last year  in Acrobat X if your dropped the file on to Acroabt directly. But broke it again with the upgrade to XI.
IF you have iWork and Open the word file in Pages then exported as a Word.docx file then create The PDF the links will become active.  Also if you Open in OpenOffice and export as docx file the resulting PDF when open in Word and PDF is Created the links will become active.
If you have neither you will have to open the PDF and add the links. Note the Links will be hot (active) but the links will not turn Blue and  be Underlined
Mac Office2011 is a Conversion of Office2010/2007 code.  So there should be no pproblem.
Also Don't use the Save As . . .  PDF Method. Instead go to Print Menu  click on PDF wait for context menu > the choos Adobe Quality PDF or Adobe PDF (uses Adobe's PDF engine).
wait for next screen that shows qualtity leave as sent unles you need specific job options. click okay then next screen File name. Rename as necessary the browser to desired to location then click save.  Or you can drop the saved Word document (with Word quit.) on to Acrobat and after a minute or so the PDF will be created. (Using this method in AcrobatX would actully show URL s or Mailtos as active - They broke this in Acrobat XI PDF still can be created but hot links no longer work).
Well it seems it does work on occasion  see: http://www.screencast.com/t/cib2kcYG

  • How to convert Sequence file documentation from TXT or HTML to MS Word ?

Hello, I would like to modify a DocSupport.prj which in default generate only TXT or HTML to support MS Wors *.DOC. I have already change the dialog (add *.doc filter..), that was simple. But the major problem is how to convert the output from doc.c to some *.doc file. I found somewhere here Word9 ActiveX  Instrument  for CVI, but I don't understand, how  the CVI gets informations about the steps etc.  from *.seq file for another use. The original code in doc.c is quite hard to understand it quickly. Thanks for help.

    Hi Pet007,
You should be able to just change the file it saves to's extension to .doc. You'll notice there is a define for txt, you could either change this to doc or if you still want to be able to use txt, create a new define and use this. If you do this you'll need to also add a define above (as you see it defines an integer for each different format type and uses those throughout the program as well). That should give you a good starting point for modifying this code. Unfortunately it is quite extensive to actually accomplish this, or else I could give a step by step guide, but it is rather long. But you should be able to get it working from this. The reason this should work is because Microsoft Word (.doc) files understand plain text just like .txt files. However, if you want to add formatting (fonts, bold text, etc) you would need to use the ActiveX Instrument for CVI which just access the ActiveX server from Microsoft. For more information about ActiveX in CVI visit the following link.
Using LabWindows/CVI as an ActiveX Automation Controller to Control Automation ServersAlso, this link gives an example of using Excel with CVI through ActiveX, which may give you some useful information about doing this type of thing.

    Hi snork8253,
Please let me know the exact workflow you are following when you get this error.
Are you trying to convert from within Reader or from Browser?
If from Reader then make sure you are signed in within Reader
Also try updating Reader to the latest v11.0.09 and check.

    Hi linda007,
If you can't edit the file once it's converted to Word, it could be that the PDF was created from a scanned page, and then image text wasn't converted to searchable text. ExportPDF should perform Optical Character Recognition by default, but it can be disabled in Reader. Do you know whether OCR was disabled when you converted the page? If it wasn't, make sure that the correct language was selected for OCR. This option appears at the bottom of the ExportPDF panel in Reader, and in the Document Language (for Text Recognition) pop-up menu that appears after you select your file to convert in the ExportPDF online service.
If everything seems to have been set correctly, and you still can edit the text, please try triple-clicking to select the text in Word. Did that do the trick?
    Best,
    Sara
