Converting from duotone to CYMK or RGB destroys image

Hello
I am trying to create an example of how colours are made up so I am splitting channels, colorising and then printing the individual colour layers RGB and CYMK on to transparency and then layering them on a light box.
I am able to convert to duo tone by doing the following things:
converting the image to 8 bit
splitting channels of the image, i have one rgb image and one cymk image.
converting to duotone and colorising.
if I save the cymk duotone images they just revert to a flat image of the target colour, all of the detail is lost see below
If I try to change the image back to rgb or cymk, the image goes blocky, see below
I need to import these images into inDesign to print them as I have a template that allows me to line each of the images up properly.
why is it doing this?
I am using creative cloud. latest version of photoshop on windows 7 64 bit.
I am close to self harm just now as it makes no sense to me.
any help at all would really be appreciated.
Thanks

Quite frankly I don’t understand the procedure you explain.
Could you post screenshots to illustrate the steps?
If I try to change the image back to rgb or cymk, the image goes blocky, see below
That looks like a problem of its own.
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Otherwise you might want to run some general trouble-shooting routines:

  • Converting from .xls to .xlsx without losing jpeg image quality

I am trying to covert .xls to .xlsx. But I have a lot of jpegs in my .xls and I notice the image quality of the original jpegs is severely eroded. How do I preserve that -- click Option, Advanced, Do not Compress? Do I have to do it a file at a time?

    Hi,
Unfortunately, this setting applies only to pictures in the current file or the file selected in the list next to Image Size and Quality. Please take a look the article below:

  • Actions - Convert CYMK to RGB

    Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me out with trying to convert the "Document Color Mode" from CYMK to RGB as part of an action. The reason for this is because i have hundreds of eps files that need to be converted to RGB mode, but recording actions does not seem to "record" the changing of the "Document Color Mode".
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

You need to use the "Insert Menu Item..." command found in the Actions panel fly-out menu.

  • Convert from RGB to CMYK

I've been trying to find solutions to convert images/pdf's from RGB to CMYK. I've noticed that it's definitely possible to convert from CMYK to RGB, but haven't been able to do the reverse.
Does anyone know of a method or a reference that might help me along?
    Thanks!

Ugh, I'm a newb and did a better search and found other previous posters asking the same question.
Feel free to close this thread (if you do such things here).

  • Converting from a spot color to a color for a RGB document?

How can I take a spot color from the Pantone Swatches Library and convert it for use in a RGB document? Thanks.

    kat,
    You may:
    1) Click the Pantone Swatch, or a path to which it is applied;
    2) Switch to RGB (for RGB, CMYK for CMYK) in the Color palette/panel, and ;
    3) Click New Swatch in the Swatches palette/panel flyout, see that Color Type says Process Color, give it its name (and make it Global if relevant), and press OK.
With that you will have the corresponding RGB colour (closest match) as a swatch.

  • Converting from RGB colorSpace to cs_gray

Pls can anybody help with the conversion from sRGB to cs_GRAY
i have been trying to convert but the registry says the samplemodel is not compactible the colormodel

I am replying to this topic again in the hope someone will be able to help with step 2 of the subject question.  In one of the replies, Michael offered a VI utilizing nested loops to convert the 32 bit array containing RGB values to Cielab Lab values.  Because of the extensive computations required for digital images of significant pixels, the cited nested loop approach requires to much computation time (i.e., approximately 30 seconds) when a steady stream of images need to be processed.  I believe there exists another Labview approach that will allow the conversion of all the pixels' from RGB coordinate color space to Lab coordinates allowing histrographs to be plotted for the respective L, a, and b distributions.  I would appreciate help from an NI engineer or anyone who is familiar with a more efficient colorspace conversion approach for all pixels of a digital image.

  • Converting from RGB to CMYK makes the image dull. How do I fix?

I have an image that has a really bright vibrant blue in it. When I convert it from RGB to CMYK, it gets pretty dull. Is there a "trick" or something to do to a file after converting to CMYK to bring back some of it's vibrancy?

Question on workflow... so do I convert my sRGB to CMYK, work to fix different color issues using some of the methods above, then what?  Where does the printer's profile come into play during all of this?  UPrint told me for offset printing they use US Web-coated SWOP v.2.  Just not sure what to do with this information
Whenever you convert, you're always converting from the source color space to the destination color space.
In this case, your source color space is sRGB, because that's the color space your file is in.
Your printer told you that the CMYK profile they use is USWebCoatedSWOPv2, so that's the destination color space you want to convert to. You can consider that the printer's profile.
    So, how to convert?
    There are two ways.
First, you could go to Image > Mode > CMYK. Easy, but maybe not right.
That method will convert to whatever defaults are set in Photoshop's Color Settings (Edit > Color Settings). Check out your Color Settings. If they are set to any of the North America presets, you're in good shape, because the CMYK default is USWebCoatedSWOPv2. However, let's say that the printer told you to use Web Coated SWOP 2006 Grade 3. Then you need to take a different approach...
Second way: go to Edit > Convert to Profile...
In the dialog that appears, click on the Destination pop-up and scroll to find the appropriate profile.
    Click OK. Conversion done.
This is a more deliberate method that also gives you control over Rendering Intent. (That's another discussion. For now, use Relative.)
-I guess it's used in soft proofing but sure how all this works.  If I soft proof and it's still not looking right, am I able to edit with their profile turned on some how?
A soft proof is an on-screen simulation of what your color will look like once you do the conversion. In your case, you would turn on soft-proof (command-Y) while still in sRGB to simulate the look of the CMYK color space.
To select the color space to simulate, go to View > Proof Setup.
    Click on Custom...
Click on the Device to Simulate popup.
Scroll to find the destination color space.
Then when you hit command-Y, you'll see a soft proof of that color space.
Best practices suggest that you do the bulk of your color correction while still in RGB, but with soft proof on.
Also, should I get a profile for the paper I'm  using as well?
That's what the printer's profile is.
Although I've read somewhere it's hard to have your monitor replicate paper because monitors are so bright....
Not exactly. The challenge in getting a visual match between monitor and proof/print is based on the fact that a monitor is emissive (i.e., it's a light source) and a print is reflective (i.e., it only reflects light that's hitting it.) However, in a proper, well controlled editing environment, it's possible to get a shockingly close match between monitor and proof/print. All the variables are controllable.
The bottom line with all of this is to be able to get accurate, predictable color on press (or out of your inkjet) based on what you see on screen. It can be done; I do it every day. It just takes some study and rigorous process control.
I humbly suggest that you check out my book.
    Good luck!

Also keep in mind that there are two definitions of bitmap. You want the 2-color version where each bit represents one color or the other. However, thanks to Microsoft, their bitmaps are really just uncompressed strings of RGB values, storing each pixel in multiple bits.

iPhoto used to support the PCD format up to a few years ago. It's extremely frustrating that Apple decided to no longer support this format and now I'm directed to pay nearly $40 for an app that will (GraphicConverter 9). Did Lemke Software make a deal with Apple so we'd have to pay a premium for a very overpriced converter? And, how are decisions like this supposed to encourage the use of iPhoto?
Apple users already pay a premium to use a Mac. Obstacles like these eventually destroy loyalty to the Apple brand. Just ask Microsoft how their back room deals that exploited their customer base worked out for them.

  • ABAP code needed to convert from 0calmonth2 & 0calyear to 0calmonth

    Hi SAP GURUS,
Can anybody give me the ABAP code to convert from 0calmonth2 and 0calyear to 0calmonth.and please suggest me whether i have to write start routine or end routine in transformations.
    Thanks ALL.

    hi,
in the transformation map 0calmonth2 and 0calyear to the 0calmonth field, and from drop down choose routine.
there will be an area where it will be mentioned write your piece of code below this line.
    paste the below code:
    Concatenate source_fields-0calmonth2 source_fields-0calyear into result.
also delete the line result = .
save the routine and execute the package.
    regards,

  • The bullet list, numbered list and the normal text is not converting when I am converting from RH 9 to MS Word 2010

    Hi all,
    Greetings for the day
I am created a new CSS in Robohelp 9. I have also created a new template in Word 2010. The style sets for different information elements like (Heading, bullets, body text, ) are more or less same between the CSS and the new templates. I am also able to map the .css styles to Word template when I am converting from RH to Word as I am getting the necessary option in the drop-down list.
However, when the output is generated, the bullet, the numbered list and the body text is not converting at all. The body text works sometimes. However, the numbered list and bullet list is coming out as images.
If anybody knows the solution, I can share the .css and Word template.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Parag Deb

  • How do I convert from pdf to word? I see an option to do so, however, when I click on it, Ia box opens...

when I try to convert from pdf to word, a box opens and suggests I am to click on (select) the file I want to convert. It sounds all well but it does not work. I really really just want my files back in word, all of them, no matter, because after having to reinstall windows 7 (done by techs) and me having to re-download all my HP drivers, and tools, and other software, which I imagine included adobe reader, now I see some pdf files won't open. It says, "access denied" and boy that really makes me wantt o scream. I am the ONLY user, it is my notebook, I am the administrator so I can't figure out why some files open and some don't. I can't ascertain any difference.
I would be grateful for any help. This has become just too exhausting. After reinstalling sooooooooo much, then to have to go through this with what is a free application? I say I think not.
This should NEVER happen with any free application and boy there is NO help to be found. They blow you off the phone fast telling you it's a free application. Then why are you putting in this kind of  stuff that it won't open? This is NOT a shared notebook, it's mine. I am the only user, personal use.
HP probook, if anyone needs that info.
    Please, will someone help?
    I would be so grateful.
    thanks,
    Gina

Gee, Pat, this is a  real big help.
Nobody could possibly think anyone would ask for help without first trying to fix the issue oneself. Or maybe you do. I have opened the file and looked under security. I have changed it to owner-notebook (which is what the techs called me) and clicked accept but geepers it didn't work.
Maybe someone else has an idea.
Take Ownership of a File or Folder
The above should be a link. At least I copied and pasted the link. I did what was stated in there. It isn't like brain surgery. But it is not working. I ended up being able to open some pdf files after transferring them from one partition category to another. I wish it was that easy as you seem to think.
Thanks for the help. Have a great year.

  • How do you stop DNG Converter from embedding Adobe's ACR default settings instead of custom settings?

I notice that the new version of Adobe DNG Converter (8.6, and maybe earlier) appears to place Adobe's ACR defaults in the converted file.  Thus, the converted files open up in Bridge with an indication that they already have settings made, and, hence, ACR does not apply the custom camera settings.  One has to Clear Settings first in Bridge, then open in ACR.
This behavior is new, perhaps to 8.6.  But it's presence defeats the purpose of having custom Camera Defaults.
Is there any way to prevent DNG Converter from installing settings?

    ssprengel wrote:
What do you mean by “custom camera settings”?  Do you mean you’ve changed the Camera Raw defaults for a particular camera and those aren’t being seen until you do a Reset?  Or do you mean some sort of Nikon-settings that Adobe never looks at?
Also at what point in the workflow are you converting these files, just after copying them to your hard-disk and before touching them with any other Adobe software, or after they’ve been adjusted in Nikon software, or after they’ve been adjusted in Bridge/ACR, initially as NEFs?
I mean my custom camera defaults that are set by the Save New Camera Defaults for a given camera.
My workflow is to take my original raw files first into Adobe DNG Converter.  I then open the folder in Bridge.  At this point I notice that my original raw files remain unaltered (there is no "settings" icon in the top right corner – circle with two lines and up-arrows – in the image's thumbnail), but the converted dng's (otherwise untouched and unopened in ACR) have a "settings" icon.  When I open the original raw file in ACR, it opens using my custom camera defaults.  When I open the otherwise virgin dng in ACR, it opens using the Adobe defaults (the same defaults that would be employed if no custom camera default had been set).
This behavior is new.  DNGs formed by earlier versions of the DNG Converter did not apply any settings to the converted file, and when they opened in Bridge, they were given the custom camera settings.
In order to retain the old (and proper) behavior, I now have to take the just-converted documents into Bridge, select them, and immediately apply Develop Settings/Clear Settings.  That gets rid of the settings that have been installed by the DNG Converter (as well as the "settings" icon on the thumbnail).
I notice there is a new feature in Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, namely, a panel-specific toggle between the settings and the default settings. This indicates to me the likelihood that Adobe has been making some alterations with the settings that is having unintended consequences.  It clearly is not proper for DNG Converter to be adding (installing) settings, because that prevents the custom camera default settings from being applied, and hence defeats the purpose of the custom camera default settings.

  • How do I make the images look clear in PDF when converted from MS Word?

    Hi
When I convert an MS Word-2010 file (which  contains  images also) to PDF through Acrobat X Pro, some images which are of bigger size do  not look very clear. Is there any workaround for this problem? Please  reply. It's quite urgent.
    Thanks

In my experience (not necessarily the best), I find it best to rescale image copies with a graphics package before importing into WORD or whatever. Resize and then set the resolution to about 600 dpi before you import. The issue of using the clipboard appears to be an issue with WORD 2007 and such. I clipped a 300 dpi image into my technical word processor and then back to a graphic editor and all was preserved. I did the same with WORD 2007 and everything got messed up and the resultant image looked terrible. In fact, in WORD I got the same result if I imported the picture or clipped it from my graphics package. So it appears there are some strange issues with WORD itself.
I am not trying to make any claims here, but just making an observation. The original image was at 300dpi. WORD also changed the 8-bit B&W photo to a 24-bit photo and reduced the number of pixels from 774 per width to 252 per width about a factor of 3 reduction in pixel resolution when clipped. When I expanded the image size in WORD, then the clip size increased also. When I do the same expansion of the image size in my word processor and then clip back to IrfanView, the original image is retained. My only conclusion is that OFFICE 2007 plays around with graphics and it does not seem to make any difference if you clip the image into WORD or import it, WORD still messes around with it. My guess this is just a general MS thing.
Some folks a year or 2 ago got me to looking at nice sunsets in PPT. There were all sorts of issues with creating the PDF (AA8) from the PPT to get a reasonable result. The image obtained from the MS converter seemed to keep the picture nice. The images obtained from PDF Maker and printing to the Adobe PDF printer gave slightly different results and tended to break the image into smaller parts that often left little lines in the picture if you zoomed in. Folks were blaming this on Acrobat and yet using the same version of Acrobat with OFFICE 2003 the sunset came out great.
This post is a bit jumbled, but the jist is that a lot of the graphics issues with WORD files seem to go back to WORD itself  and possibly with hooks MS put into OFFICE (OK, no proof on that and probably impossible to prove) to mess up Acrobat conversions. It would be interesting to see if the same result for the PDF is obtained from other converters, or if it is just something that OFFICE 2007 does "nicely" for Acrobat.
Sorry for going off the deep end, but I just have a major annoyance with OFFICE starting with 2007, particularly for things like this. They couldn't get equations right either, just one more thing that they messed up. As far as I am concerned, a lot of the issues stem from MS and not Acrobat.
Just for the heck of it, I ran the PPT picture through Open Office and used both the PDF export and the print to the Adobe PDF printer. Both retained the full image. However, when clipping from OOP to Irfanview, the resolution was 96dpi. The result seemed to be dependent on the zoom. So there are definitely some issues with copy and paste, at least with how some packages handle it.
