Converting from Ogg Vorbis to mp3

I have some music files on my computer with the file ending .ogg and was wondering what the best way would be to change to .mp3 and to allow for it to burn to a disc. Is there certain software I need?

I haven't tried this, but maybe this will help you:

  • Converting from Apple Lossless to MP3: loss of quality?

    Hi,
I have made the "mistake" of importing dozens and dozens of CD's using the Apple Lossless encoder. Nothing bad about the encoder, on the contrary. But my iPod is now full.
Is there a way I can convert all these tracks to MP3? Will there be a loss of quality from the re-conversion beside the one inherent to MP3? (since we are not starting from the original CD) And will I have to re-create my playlists?
Mmmhhh... doesn't sound too good, right?
    Xavier.

Go to Preferences in iTunes. Then go to advanced and importing. In importing change the import using to MP3 encoder.
Quit out of this menu. On the top tool bar you have Advanced and under here you have convert option. If you select the songs that you want to convert and use this convert option they will go to MP3s

  • CONVERTING FROM ITUNES MP4 TO MP3, WMA E.T.C.  ....How do you do it?

How do i convert my MP4's to MP3, WMA e.t.c. with itunes, so i can play the music i purchase, on my Archos, or other MP3 player.
ps sorry for the capital letters,

No, with protected files the only thing you can do is use iTunes and iPods. Burning them to CDs doesn't erase the copy protection. Nor can you transfer them to SD cards and get them to play on a phone or anything. Protected files are just that, totally locked. There are programs out there that advertise being able to break that protection, but so far none of the ones I tried did anything except corrupt the file so that even iTunes wouldn't play it.

  • Converting from format AAV to MP3

I would like to convert some of my music in my iTune library from format AAC to format MP3 and then load the new format on a memory car SD.
Is it possible? and if yes, can they be stored in the iTune library and later be transferred on the memory card?
In a few steps what is the procedure
    Tank you in advance

Forget my question, I have found the answer.
What I had to do is select my pieces of music and right click and select convert to MP3
had previously change the parameters in the preferences/import

  • Burn music-CD ... directly from OGG or MP3 records

    the task:
i help some people to master a CD (play instruments, sing : and record it on a archlinux to OGG and MP3 --- some songs we made in ogg, some in mp3 ... yes, i know ogg is much better, but some people want to be able to listen it on a mp3-player directly)
we have now some OGG and some MP3 files created from line-in (recorded in WAV and then lame or oggenc them)
    now the tricky question:
what program would you use to burn the MP3 and OGG  files directly to CD on a IDE-BURNER
// i dont want to use the ide-scsi module in lilo because this is also a DVD-drive
// i know that it is very easy if you encode the files back to WAV, but there must be a more elegant way
i know of gtoaster, but you must have a scsi-burner or one working with ide-scsi at bootup

I record mp3s & oggs to audio cd with the following script I wrote :
    #!/bin/sh

    DRIVEROPTS=burnproof
echo "Converting mp3 to wav files"
    for MP3 in *.mp3; do
    mpg123 -r 44100 --stereo -w "$MP3.wav" "$f"

echo "Converting ogg to wav files"

    ogg123 -d wav -f "$OGG.wav" "$i"

    echo "Writing audio cd"
cdrecord speed=$SPEED dev=$DEVICE driveropts=$DRIVEROPTS -v -eject -pad -audio -dao *.wav
    rm -f *.wav
(install normalize to have volumes normalized )
Simply change SPEED,DEVICE,DRIVEROPTS to match your system. To write a cd-r using atapi directly (without ide-scsi) you need cdrtools v.2.01a (I could send the PKGBUILD if you want), and check your devices with
    cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATAPI
and instead of using ie, dev=0,0,0 use dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 with cdrecord.
Note that it doesn't produce the expected results (at least for me), so I'd suggest to stick to ide-scsi till kernel-2.6.0 & cdrtools-2.01 (not alpha).
about ATAPI:0,0,0 ... that's exactly how it works with xcdroast and cdrecord also with cdrtools 2.00 (the arch package) ... the only thing is: the gtoaster is too old to have such an option: you can only tell what scsi id it should use ... and "ATAPI:0,0,0" do not work as scsi-id... i tried
your script is great, because it is easy ... but not really "on the fly" (as files are being generated) ... i would use it, but it is not only me to use such a solution, so it must be a little bit user friendlier (... a nice gui --- i know that the word "gui" actually leads to alergical reactions in the archlinux comunity, and i agree in a lot of pooint f views, but it is not me the enduser ...)

  • Encoding Shoutcast mp3 streams with ogg vorbis

    Hello friends,
I am somehow newbie to java and javasound.
Also i have intermediate English language skills, so please have some understanding.
I would like to create a java based project which part of it would be functionality similar to streamripper (http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/)
The biggest problem seems to be license fees for mp3 encoding.
I wonder if its possible to use mp3spi for decoding shoutcast streams and some ogg vorbis based encoder to save the stream into hard disk, splitting the files according to id3 tags.
    Mp3 patents still apply?
Can be implemented with existing java technology? vorbisspi + mp3spi + Tritonus Ogg Vorbis Encoder + other?
    Greetings
    bakchos

You might want to take a look at jicyshout
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/jicyshout
It's basically an dead project that helps jmf read a Shoutcast stream. From there It's up to you how you want to save the stream. You might want to use an Effect to capture the stream in mp3 format and use the meta data listener in jicyshout to split it by song. There are bugs in it but it should give you a start.

  • Files converted from m4a to mp3 are not displaying correctly in feed

hi; i recently produced my first show in garageband (after using a bunch of other audio apps in the past), exported to an m4a file, and converted to mp3 in itunes, but it is not showing up as an audio file in my feed.
the feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/wellroundedradio and my blog posting on it is http://wellroundedmedia.blogspot.com
is there something you need to do when converting from m4a to mp3 in itunes to make sure the settings are all correct so it will be enclosed as an audio file? i have tested other mp3 files in the feed and they are working fine.
    thx, charlie

thanks. yes, i think that's what has been so tricky about this. i add a link to an mp3 in blogger, but feedburner doesn't add this particular show as an enclosure, so it's not updating in the feed. can't seem to find where the origin of the problem, though...is it blogger, feedburner, or the mp3 file or...?

  • How do I convert qcp audio file (from cell phone) to mp3 file?

I moved a recorded cell phone conversation from my phone to my computer. The file is 982498.qcp and iTunes, VLC, Quicktime, or Windows Media Player will not play it. iSoundFile is an application that can convert many different audio files to many other different audio file formats. It does not work with qcp files.
How do I play this qcp file? Or, How do I convert this qcp file to mp3 or something playable?
The phone manual says nothing about it (its an LG 8600).

I've tried it 3 times. It says "Error while converting file." Thanks though, it looks like the perfect site for this function, just wish it worked.

  • Converting from MP3 to AAC

Several thousand of my songs are in the MP3 format. My question is twofold: first, is there that big a difference in sound quality between MP3 and AAC? I do not care about space restrictions, as I have plenty of room on my 80GB. Second, if I do begin to cnvert these songs to AAC, is a second copy put on my computer as well as in iTunes? If so, where can I find it, as I cannot find duplicates of the ten or so that I have already converted. Thanks in advance. Just want to know if it worth the time and effort to make the conversion.

Converting creates a second file in the format you are converting to. The original file is not changed so you end up with two copies of the song, once in each format. However it's always preferable to re-rip from the original uncompressed format rather than converting from one lossy format to another.
For reference, you'll get an extensive comparison of the various formats on these pages:

  • Error message when converting from mp4 to mp3

Three songs I just purchased won't convert from mp4 to mp3, although all of the other songs--including one from the same album these 3 are from--converted just fine. I keep getting "an unknown error occurred" message. How can I convert these 3 songs? Should I exit the iTunes store and reload it (in effect rebooting the store)? Or what?

Purchase only iTunes Plus songs, change the default encoder in iTunes to MP3 from the General section of its preferences, right-click the songs, and change them to MP3.

  • Is there an audible loss of quality when converting from WMA to MP3/AAC?

Just wondering when I convert my WMA files to MP3 or AAC using EasyWMA, iTunes for WIndows, Switch or whatever, will there be an audible loss of quality in the conversion?
    Thanks.

There is always an audio quality degradetion while converting a compressed file from one codec to another. It may not be significant for everybody tough.
To avoid this degradation, you should compress your file from the original instead of passing from one codec to another.

  • Converting from WAV to MP3 using Creative MediaSou

I am trying to convert from WAV to MP3 using Creative Media Source Version 3.30.35. The program says it is converting the file to MP3 but when it has finished and I examine the properties it still says the file format is WAV. Can anyone shed any light on this, thanks?

It doesn't change the original file - it creates a new file in the new format. Check where your file destination is set to in the Audio Converter screen.

  • Why won't my playlists convert from aac to mp3

    Hi,
Never had to use the forum before as I've always previosuly been able to figure most stuff out that I needed to do, but I recently converted my whole music library from AAC format to MP3 (so that I can burn an MP3 disc to play in my car) with no problem using the "Advanced" tab and "Convert to MP3 format" tab.
(I've also changed my settings now so that all downloads are set to MP3 as well to stop this happening ever again!.)
However, I then tried to do the same for my playlists, but it just doesn't work for those using the "Convert to MP3 format" facility - even though it doers actually give the impression of doing so. i.e. It appears to be converting the songs and I even get a confimation tone when it's suppossedly finished converting the playlist, but the playlist still shows it's "Kind" as AAC,  and hasn't converted it at all!
The only way that I can find to do it is to delete the playlist (after printing out a copy of the playlist) and then manually re-creating the whole playlist again by dragging each song individually from the library! Which I obviously don't really want to do as I've got a lot of playlists and that would be very laborious and would quite frankly be a ridiclous thing to have to do again (especially after doing it already for the library).
Am I missing something here, expecting too much or just being thick?? Any one have a solution for this please?

Thank you, absolutely brilliant, I knew there had to be an easier way to do this!!! And also thank you so much for the really quick response too!
It took me less than a minute to do this for the first playlist and I'll now easily be able to do the same for all the other playlists - saving me potentially hours if I'd had to do it using the other way.
In case anyone is unaware, there is one further little tip once you have converted the playlist from AAC to MP3 and sorted by "Date Added". Press and hold Shift, then highlight (the first song) and scroll to the last song (which will then highlight all the songs that you've just converted) and then simply drag them to a new playlist - voila, job done!

  • Converting from a .m4a to a .mp3?

Is there any degredation of audio quality if a .m4a file is converted through iTunes
    to a .mp3 file?

    Michael:
Yes. .m4a (or AAC) is a compressed and lossy format. When you convert to another compressed and lossy format, such as .mp3, there is bound to be a degredation in quality. If, however; you are planning on using those tracks to burn discs played in a car, you probably won't hear the difference. Most automobile acoustics are pretty poor. You will definitely hear the difference in an iPod or on a decent set of speakers.

  • Batch Converted from AAC to MP3

    Hello All
I need some help. I have all my music collection on Itunes and Ipod ( around 90gb ). I am gonna need to converted my whole library to MP3 in an external HD. Which software would you guys recommend ?
I am looking for a software where I can select the entire library and let it do all by itself. I dont want to select album by album, set the output location every time I need to convert a file, album or a band.
    Any help will be appreciated.

you can try versiontracker as suggested. you can also try using itunes for this although it might be a little tricky. first of all itunes won't let you convert DRM protected tracks you bought at itunes store. it also dumps the converted files right in the library. this might be unpleasant with as many songs as you have. Not sure what's the best way to deal with that. you can try moving the whole itunes library to the external first and do conversion there.
anyway. to do it in itunes you first go to itunes preferences->advanced->importing and set importing format to MP3. Now slect any number of songs in itunes, control-click and choose 'convert selection to mp3. you can do it to the whole library if you want but it will error out on protected titles. as I said it will dump the converted songs right back into the library.
you can then open itunes library folder in finder and search for mp3 items.
