Converting from PDF to MS Word back to PDF

We have documents that are in PDF that need to be updated.  We have discovered that when converting from PDF to MS Word and then back to PDF - the formatting is lost in the process.
Is there a way to maintain the formatting?  Or, can you edit directly in PDF?  Or - will we have to create all new master MS Word documents for future updates?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

You should create master documents in WORD for all documents that you want to update. If you use PDF Maker, the conversion back is a bit more smooth since the structure information is included in the PDF as tags. However, the PDF make end up bloated as a result. You should consider a PDF the electronic equivalent of a piece of paper. If you were to correct paper you would use white-out. If you were to convert it back to WORD, you would scan it, OCR and hopefully have a reasonable result in WORD. You can typically do better with a PDF than with paper, but the concept is still the same. You should never consider creating a PDF as a master document, but always keep the original.
What needs to be done now (if someone deleted all of the originals) is to convert them back and then fix the formating and such. Graphics will typically convert back OK, but maybe not in exactly the way you wanted. Sometimes, you can use export all images (Advanced>Document Processing in AA8) to save the images in the quality you might like.
Editing can be done in a PDF, but should only be for minor corrections. Sometimes, even the minor corrections are a pain. In such cases, you should always work on a copy so you can always go back.
So the answers to what you asked are: 1) with PDF Maker, but not perfect; 2) minor edits, possibly painful; 3) You should create all new master WORD documents and not delete them in the future - not required, but a best route.

  • I need help in converting PDF to PS and back to PDF

I am using the ghostScript distiller for PS to PDF file conversions. I need to know if I can make it convert from PDF to PS and back to PDF while optimizing the PDF in the process using the pdfopt.bat. I believe that changes need to be made to idcrefinery.cfg to allow for this conversion (Using an inbound refinery "IBR" to convert certain file types to PDF when checked in through a content server). My need is to be able to optimize PDF files upon checkin to the content server. Any tips, guidance, or ANY help would be greatly appriciated.
    Thank you,
    Roger

Sounds like a question for GhostScript users, not Acrobat users.

I have Windows XP and Adobe 9 Reader and need to send a series of large documents to clients as a matter of urgency When I convert 10 pages a MS-Word file to Pdf this results in file of 6.7 MB which can't be emailed.  Do I combine them and then copy to JPEG 2000 or do I have to save each page separately which is very time consuming Please advise me how to reduce the size and send 10 pages plus quickly by Adobe without the huge hassles I am enduring

What kind of software do you use for the conversion to pdf? Adobe Reader can't create pdf files.

  • Poor quality convertion from adobe reader to word

    Good day,
I received a poor quality convertion from adobe reader to word.
Can I send the original to anybody for help or a better convertion.

Without context, my guess is that your question should go in the ExportPDF forum,

  • CODE FOR BATCH PDF TO JPG AND BACK TO PDF CONVERSION?

Is there a way (with JS) to batch convert all PDF's in a folder to JPG and then convert back to PDF with margin parameters?
I have a folder of 500+ specifications that are from the manufacturers websites. My printer Service states that I need a .625" "bleedbox" but these specs are borderless and extend to the edges. Using the bleedbox control cuts too much of the spec off.
I want to be able to get these in the format necessary to print and wondered if I can do this through batch processing?
PLEASE HELP! (its going to take forever to do this manually)
    Thank you!

These files are not editable are they? I do not know what they were created in but likely just "printed as PDF" therefore the bleedbox needing to be set to .625" ends up cutting too much of the spec off and is unusable.

  • ProRes converted from T2i won't play back right

I am trying to work with footage from a Canon T2i. Using Log & Transfer and the Canon plug-in (with a hack to make it work for the T2i), I convert to ProRes 422 (not HQ). I'm using an OWC FW800 RAID (this one: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/PerformanceRAID) and I'm working on a Macbook Pro (2.33 GHz).
When I play back the footage after being transcoded, either in FCP or Quicktime, it's very jerky and slips out of sync. I just bought the new hard drive, after having issues with FW 400 drives, so I thought this would fix it, but it's not. It seems like something somewhere along the line can't keep up.
Is the computer not fast enough? The drive? I'm logging and transferring directly from my SDHC card reader; should I first transfer the files to the hard drive?
Please help - getting very frustrated! Thanks!

I have that unit with two 1 TB Seagates in it and haven't had issues.
However, I used it as a BU drive configured as JBOD.
I wonder if the RAID controller is causing issues.
Note as well that using a single FW bus to create a RAID is an issue.
Any chance you can test it configured as JBOD with two drives?

  • Converting from Int/Double to Wording Format

    Hi,
Does anyone has any sample program to convert double values into wording (this functionality is used to convert currency value) up to Trillion value.
For eg: 1000.90 One thousand And Ninety Cents
I have written a program which can accept up to 1 Billion. This is because that 'int' can accept bits up to that level only. I am unsure how go beyond that because when I declare the type to double, the compiler gave me the same error.
    Thank you.

  • I converted a PDF file to Word for editing. Now done, how do I convert it back to PDF?

How do I get a document that I converted from PDF to word back to PDF once edited?

    Hi gcw92591042,
I just checked your subscription details and you are currently subscribed to Adobe Export PDF service that enables you to convert pdf documents into various other formats like .doc, .rtf etc.
However in order to convert such files back into pdf format, you need to subscribe to Adobe PDF Pack(Reliably Create PDFs, Convert PDFs, & Merge PDFs Online | Adobe PDF Pack ).
Alternatively you can use Acrobat software to edit your pdf files without getting into the hassle of converting them into doc format and vice-verse. You can download a free 30 day trial from this Link - Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X
Hope that helps with your query. Please revert back if you have any other questions or need any further assistance.

  • Very STRANGE problem when importing/converting from Word

I've been trying to convert a form created in Word XP to PDF. When I use the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button or when I try to import the document into Adobe Designer, every line of the form, whether text box or form field, is overlaid with a copy of the screen banner (for example, the current banner as I type this is the Firefox logo followed by "Adobe Forums - Add Discussion - Mozilla Firefox"). I can't grab the banner image to delete it. At best, the image is barely translucent, so I can almost read the text that should be visible. At worst, the banner is so dark it completely obscures the other text.
Right now, the form is completely unusable. It also can't be opened again, once it's closed. The Acrobat Pro 7 error message says that's either because it's not a supported file type (it's a PDF now) or because it's "damaged."
Any ideas how I can either get rid of these images or keep them from showing up?

  • Cant create adobe files from multiple excel or word files

This is the first time I have placed anything on this forum so please forgive me if I am in the wrong p
lace.  I have been frustrated by an error message I get when I try to convert multiple excel files or word files to
PDF.  The files exist on a network location, and when I select 5 or 6 at random
and then right click and choose "Convert to PDF", the operation bombs with a message that reads:
"The file you selected does not contain any data (zero length file).  Please select another file."  I can
not find anything on this on Adobe's website, or google.  I used to d
o it fine until a few days ago, now it won't convert and I get the above message.  Anybody have any idea?  I a
m using Windows XP SP3 and Office 2007 SP1.  Thanks
    Steve Szabo

I can copy these files to the local drive and do the operation fine.  I can also convert files that are already on the hard drive.
Just cannot convert the ones that are in the network location.  I used to be able to do it, but not now.

  • How do I convert from pdf to word? I see an option to do so, however, when I click on it, Ia box opens...

when I try to convert from pdf to word, a box opens and suggests I am to click on (select) the file I want to convert. It sounds all well but it does not work. I really really just want my files back in word, all of them, no matter, because after having to reinstall windows 7 (done by techs) and me having to re-download all my HP drivers, and tools, and other software, which I imagine included adobe reader, now I see some pdf files won't open. It says, "access denied" and boy that really makes me wantt o scream. I am the ONLY user, it is my notebook, I am the administrator so I can't figure out why some files open and some don't. I can't ascertain any difference.
I would be grateful for any help. This has become just too exhausting. After reinstalling sooooooooo much, then to have to go through this with what is a free application? I say I think not.
This should NEVER happen with any free application and boy there is NO help to be found. They blow you off the phone fast telling you it's a free application. Then why are you putting in this kind of  stuff that it won't open? This is NOT a shared notebook, it's mine. I am the only user, personal use.
HP probook, if anyone needs that info.
    Please, will someone help?
    I would be so grateful.
    thanks,
    Gina

Gee, Pat, this is a  real big help.
Nobody could possibly think anyone would ask for help without first trying to fix the issue oneself. Or maybe you do. I have opened the file and looked under security. I have changed it to owner-notebook (which is what the techs called me) and clicked accept but geepers it didn't work.
Maybe someone else has an idea.
Take Ownership of a File or Folder
The above should be a link. At least I copied and pasted the link. I did what was stated in there. It isn't like brain surgery. But it is not working. I ended up being able to open some pdf files after transferring them from one partition category to another. I wish it was that easy as you seem to think.
Thanks for the help. Have a great year.

  • Edit document that was converted from PDF to Word Doc.

How do I edit a document that I converted from a PDF to a word document????? When I open my now "Word Document" it does not allow me to edit the text.

Bill, The PDF came from a scanning of a Word document, but my office did not produce the PDF and I don't know exactly how the original Word document was scanned, whether OCR was engaged at that stage, etc., but the select tool in Adobe Reader leads to the cross-hairs on the PDF. We are working without AA, and I was trying to convert the PDF back to an editable Word document through ExportPDF, with which I thought I had had some success in the past in similar circumstances (converting an image PDF back to an editable Word document). With this document, the conversion back to Word through ExportPDF has led to an uneditable Word document with text in image frames whether OCR is on or off in the PDF to Word conversion effort... and if there is a way to remove the frames in Word, but keep the text, I haven't "re"figured it out yet. For instance, triple clicking doesn't seem to do anything.
On this particular document, we've gone back to the old fashioned way of retyping the page that has the error in it ... and sticking it back in the document. (It also would have been smarter timewise for me in this case to have spent more time on tracking down the preceding Word document.)
Was I missing something in the conversion process from scanned image PDF to Word document with edit capabilities? Thanks!
    Dave

  • How do I fill out a form already converted from pdf to word

how do I fill out a form i converted from pdf to a word doc?

What kind of "form" is it?  A .pdf or .doc file?
Generally I would save the file somewhere (desktop or document folder).  There is a save button for attachments in mail's header section.  Then open the file with an appropriate app like Adobe Reader for .pdf files or Word or Pages for .doc files.  Fill out the form and save.  Then email the form back as an attachment.
