Converting from Photoshop v.1 to a current version and retaining captions and tags

I have Photoshop Version 1 running under Microsoft XP.  The computer  died.  I need to move my pictures and equally importantly the tags and  captions that have have been attached to the pictures.  I have  downloaded Photoshop Elements 9 and I have been told that they will not  support Version 1.  I can move the pictures without any difficulty, but  not the captions nor the tags.  I also downloaded Photoshop 3.0 starter  edition and the captions will come over, but not the tags.  I have all  the pictures, the catalog file and the thumb file backed up before the  computer crashed.  I do have access to another XP machine that I can  load the older Photoshop Version 1 and restore my pictures, then can I  can backup these files and imbed the captions and tags in the individual  pictures?  Your help and suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.

Uh, are you sure you have Photoshop v.1?
The first version of Photoshop that ran on Windows was Photoshop 2.5.

Photoshop 4.0 is not compatible with MAC 10.9.3 . You will face issues as when Photoshop 4.0 was launched there was no MAC Mavericks and Adobe has not tested the version on new MAC OS.
If you want you can download the latest version of Photoshop CC 2014 and you can use it as a trial for 30 days and you can plan to switch to the latest version.

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • How to import text from Word and retain italics and/or indented text?

Is it possible to import or copy text from Word into InDesign and retain italics or text that is indented in the Word version?

Thank you, I think I understand the idea of "place" (which is what I would call "paste")
The two are not at all the same. Paste involves copying text to the clipboard and then pasting from the clipboard. Place is an import operation.

  • Converting from Photoshop Elements 8 on PC to iPhoto on Mac

Just coverted(converting?) to an iMac and was hoping I could get some help.
I basically used 'Element's as a photo album with some edit. Is this what iPhoto is? Is it bettter?
In PS Elements I have a multitude of directories, tagged photod and I guess an overall catalog. Can I import all this into iPhoto?
Thank you very much in advance for your help. :-)

Similar but not the same. It's a different paradigm - a database - than you're used to with Elements.
iPhoto is a photo manager and is intended to replace the file manager entirely. Everything you need to do with your photos can be done with iPhoto or with another app, accessed via iPhoto. That's what being the Manager is about. So, import your files from your camera and then fterwards all your work is done in the iPhoto window.
    For instance:
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
iPhoto is not an editor like Elements, it's has no compositing, for instance. It's more a digital darkroom. Take in your photos, process them to improve the over all look and feel. If you want to remove a telegraph pole from the background, then you use another app - accessed via iPhoto. So:   You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All processing in iPhoto is virtual and non-destructive. Your original file is never touched and edits are never finalised until you export a version.
The managing abilities of iPhoto are rather greater than Elements: For instance a canned answer I sometimes use:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
Best advice: Create a library, import 100 shots and explore. It's a good app, but not for everyone.

  • Convert from Photoshop Album to PSE8 fails

I'm finally making the move from Album 1.0/Elements 2 up to PSE8 on our new Windows 7 computer.
I copied all my files from the 'My Pictures' directory into the new computer 'My Pictures' directory.  With Photoshop Album, I saved the catalog as My Catalog_original_album.  The save_as feature created a My Catalog_original_album directory with just a tn.4.cache file inside and also created a My_Catalog_original_album.psa file.  In the PSE8, I do the File->Catalog->Convert.  I select the directory that contains the My Catalog_original_album.psa file.  It fails at about 5% suggesting that I use the original program to 'repair' the catalog.  I did a repair and re-save but it still fails.
    Any suggestions?

  • Converting from photoshop to Flash

I do cartoons with photoshop but i want to add sound to them
but for this I need flash but i cant convert those files to
    flash

    tboparis,
you can export from P'shop in a number of formats that flash
can import - but retaining layers is
not supported - maybe now that Adobe aquired Macromedia that
will change (hint hint if Adobe reads
    this).
There is a plugin called PSD2FLA:
    http://www.medialab.com/psd2fla/
I have it and it wors great. A little pricey for some but it
has saved me hours and probably days of
work - so it was worth it for me.
otherwise you can, if you have Fireworks, open the PSD in it
and then save as and open that file in
Flash - i cant remember exactly how but i was able to retain
layers going through Fireworks once -
but transparency was hit or miss (mostly miss).
Other people have reported importing PSD files via quicktime
    - but i have never had any success with
    this.
Google may be your friend here.
    hope this helps

  • Questions about converting from Photoshop to Lightroom

Hi! I have been a Photoshop user for many years now, but after a lot of thought, reading many reviews and much reccommendation, I have decided I would like to buy Lightroom! However, I have absolutely no idea how I go about doing it. I thought it would be simple but after looking into it, people have made it seem much more complicated than I thought. SO, here are a few qustions which I hope somebody can answer!
    1. Do I already need a version of Lightroom before I can buy Lightroom 4 or 5?
    2. Do I buy it on a disk, or do I download it off the Adobe website? Which is the better option?
    3. I'm currently on windows 7, however I'm going to be buying an iMac next year. Will I have to buy another version of Lightroom next year? Or can I install it on multiple devices?
    4. Why is Lightroom 5 so much cheaper than Lightroom 4 on Amazon? (not the update versions)

The Upgrade from a previous version is a lower price, but the upgrade price should clearly say UPGRADE.
If it says FULL version, you won't need to own previous versions of LR
Looks like Adobe is offering LR 5 for $40 off on the FULL version right now

  • Converting from photoshop to pdf.

I am using Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Reader X.  I would like to know how to convert a multiple picture file in photoshop to an adobe pdf file so that it will fit to one cd.  Any suggestions?

Probably a better idea to ask in the Photoshop forum. Reader doesn't have anything to do with PDF creation.

  • Unable to print using PDF Converter from Photoshop

For years I have been able to select "Adobe PDF Converter" in my print dialogue box...resulting in the creation of a PDF file. Although the choice to use this printer driver is still an option, it won't generate a file. It gives me an error box, with no explanation as to what the error might be. Any ideas?
I'm using Photoshop CS3, and Windows Vista.

What version of Acrobat? Only Acrobat 9 is certified for Vista. Older versions do not cope with some of the driver and security stuff on Vista and therefore may not work correctly or not at all.

  • Converting from Photoshop CC

    Hi,
I have downloaded a Trial version Photoshop CC and Edge Reflow CC.
But it doesn't show both psd import option on Edge Reflow, and Convert option on Photoshop.
I tried to download Photoshop first, and then Edge.
Also reinstalled a Edge's plugin to photoshop.
It would be great if somebody understands this problem and knows how to solve it.
    Best,
    Takuya

    Hello Anirudh,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, that's what I expected, but strangely it doesn't display 'Generate' menu.
    My version is 14.1.2 x64
    For '~/Library/Logs/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/Generator'
again strangely, there is no folder of Adobe Photoshop CC inside /Library/Logs/Adobe/. Please see my attached picture.
In my mac, there are several user accounts.
The Library directly seems not belonging to my user account, but to the mac itself. Maybe this causes the error?
    Best,
    Takuya
