Converting From Video_TS to Quicktime

I am working on a project and some of the footage I have to work with is from a local TV news cast. They sent a DVD which plays on the DVD player, but I can't omport it to FCP or Quicktime. What is the best and fastest way to convert a Video_TS file into Quicktime? Can it be done?

MPEG Streamclip will open and export to QT formats footage from a non commercial DVD.

Question is why a TV station would want you to edit heavily encoded m2v files.

  • HT3775 AVI's appear green once converted from AVI to Quicktime

    Dear Apple Tzar's,
Having recently become as Mac user, I recently purchased iSkySoft Video convertor so that I could convert my library of avi movies (that I use for medical teaching) into Quicktime.
Weirdly some of the movies I convert work beautifully, while others convert so that all can be seen is a large green blanket of nothingness.
Any thoughts ? many thanks for your assistance,
    Many thanks,
    Beth

Thanks for the reply. I'd be "LOST" without you!
Anyway, the camera only came with a Windows disk. Per the manufacturer, it doesn't need mac drivers, and the windows drivers are only for the web cam function (which i don't use.)
The camera is formatted under FAT32 (Windows) format. I couldn't run permissions repair. I did do a repair disk under disk utility. Still having the issues.
I tried iMovie. I can import the avi file from the camera, and it works!!!!
So it would appear that there's a bad codec in QT/Perian/VLC?

  • Converting from imovie to quicktime

In the FAQ section of the apple imovie website, they tell you what versions of quicktime are necessary to view movies made in the "share" file for "share for the web" and "share for e-mail" settings. But I am looking to find out what version of Quicktime is necessary for the advanced settings 'high speed' sharing to quicktime movies. I am specifically looking for the medium size. So, my question is, when converting to a quicktime movie and using the advanced options, what quicktime version is necessary to view the medium broadband conversion?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

What you want to avoid is a conversion that uses H.264 video codecs because it requires QuickTime 7 be installed on the viewers machine.
Only H.264 requires a newer QT Player be installed.
Use the "custom" export settings and avoid H.264 video and your "shares" should be fine for most users.

  • Converting from QuickTime movie to AVI

I see a lot of questions about converting from .avi to Quicktime but how do I accomplish a conversion from a Quicktime .mov format to an .avi format?
The reason I ask is because I emailed someone a QuickTime movie and he could not view it and asked for me to send an .avi. I 'think' he's on a PC. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can use this freeware to make the conversion:
    Mpeg StreamClip
or you can buy the QT Pro license and use it. With Pro you open the mov file and use Export in the file menu to make the conversion. More details on using Pro are in the QT 7 guide available here:

  • When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?
That would depend on your work flow. MOV is the generic QuickTime file container and is not related to any particular data compression format. If you perform a simple "Save" or "Save As..." action that merely copies the data in the WAV file to an MOV file, then the data remains unchanged and maintains its original quality. If, on the other hand, your transcode/re-compress the original data to a different compression format, then there is always the potential for some loss in quality. Depending on the codec and/or settings, the potential loss could be inaudible to severe.

  • Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

I'm guessing that your using One Step DVD . This will only work with one movie at a time.
Create a new project and all you should have to do is drag your movies from your movie folder onto your iDVD project. You can add as many movies as you like but obviously you can't exceed the maximum total DVD size.
Encoding can take a long time depending on the original file format, but you should be able to use pretty much any file format you can play with Quicktime.

  • Converting FROM VCD/SVCD to Quicktime/iDVD Compatible

(I'm not sure what forum this should go to)
Is there a way to convert from VCD to an iDVD compatible format? I have a vcd that i would like to include on my dvd. Are there any tools to do this?
    Thanks!

(XS)VCD format is different than most CDs and there is minimal error correction compared to data disks. Therefore you may have to use 3rd party apps to rip the material to the HD, and even then there may be problems.

  • How do I convert from PAL to NTSC in compressor?

I have a project I converted from mp4 file to Apple Pro Res to edit it in FCP.  I exported using Compressor and tried to import the files to DVD Studio Pro.  It said it can't put PAL files into an NTSC project.  I didn't even realize it was filmed in PAL (yes, I have the rights to use the footage).  How do I convert the files from PAL to put it into FCP...in Compressor?  If so, how?  Thanks for any help!

To  convert the 25fps PAL file to a 29.97fps file staying within the ProRes codec:
    • Open up compressor. In the Settings window select: Apple>Formats>Quicktime>ProRes 422
    • Select the "Duplicate Selected Setting" icon in the upper left of the Settings window
    • This creates duplicate of the preset that you can edit
    • Select the preset copy and, in Inspector, give it a new name (something like ProRes PAL>NTSC)
    • In Encoder>Video Settings>Frame rate - and change the frame rate to 29.97
    • In Frame Controls> turn them on and set Resize Filter and Rate Conversion to BETTER.  (If so set them to BEST, be prepared for a long wait)
    • In the Geometry tab, set the Frame Size to 720x480 (you don't say if the file is 16:9 or 4:3)
    • Submit the file and go have dinner. Depending on the length of the file, it may take hours.
    Have fun.

Since you've already edited it, export from fcp (file:  export:  quicktime movie - NOT quicktime conversion) with current settings.  Bring this file into compressor and apply the appropriate dvd preset.  Thencustomize the preset, changing the frame rate to 29.97 fps and video format to ntsc in the encoder panel:  the pixel dimensions in the geometry panel to 720x480 (not sure if this is necessary, but doublecheck it).  Then in the frame controls panel, enable frame controls and change the resize filter to best, and rate conversion to 100% of source and rate conversion to best.  This may take a long time to output, so you might want to do a short test by setting an in and out in the compressor preview window.
Hopefully, I haven't left anything out.  If there are any questions, post back.

  • Convert from AIFF-C audio to midi

I'm looking for a way to convert from AIFF-C format to midi on my Mac, and to use with a music program.
I can import the AIFF-C file into GarageBand, but can't seem to export it in midi format, which surprised me -- is this not supported?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your replies.
I did a bit of research, and see that there are a number of software products out there that claim to convert audio to midi, but I also see that reviewers report mixed results. So before exploring or trying one of these, somewhat blindly, I was hoping to see if there were any options I had missed with Mac software I already own and trust, from GarageBand to QuickTime to Finale's PrintMusic (have I missed anything?).
And if not, then I'm hoping to get more info from Mac users about what you may have tried and what works best. Here are some of the leading options I've tripped across so far, converting to midi from audio formats AIFF-C and mp3 (since I have easy access to the source as well as the ripped versions):

... and then I just found this one: http://convert.software.informer.com/download-convert-aiff-to-midi-mac/
If you have any thoughts about any of the above, or other techniques or software that would do the job, I'm all ears!

  • My first question here.Is it possible to bounce live from logic into quicktime broadcaster quicktime streaming server?o

I would like to broadcast (webcast) live music only.Is it possible to live bounce from logic to quicktime broadcaster/quicktime steaming server, and thus to mobile me ?

Thanks, Evan. Your first suggestion works - although with a lot more difficulty as the Quicktime Pro I have is 5.0 and in Mac OS 9.2. If I listen to it in QuickTime Pro 5.0 after exporting - it is very jerky but the final AIF is okay. I can now burn the CD in iTunes. I probably should upgrade to QuickTime Pro 7 (.whatever) but I am leary about putting out the extra cash if it won't export Midi Files. Any experience with that?
Also, I do want to get the hang of converting midi data to audio in LE7.01. That way I can add singing to the songs for the beginner students to learn.
Maybe I'll have a better feel for that once I finish the Training Series book.
Some of the advantages of keeping it in midi format is the ability to transpose. Some students don't sing in the key the works are written in.
Your second idea did not work for me. Maybe because I don't have Toast on this computer (it was attached to my iBook). When I opened Toast, chose AUDIO and dragged the midifile to it, it rejected the offer as not being in Audio format.
Thanks so much for your help.

  • How do I convert from imovie to wmv format

how do I convert from imovie to wmv format

Spend some money at http://flip4mac.com and then do some homework regarding exports from iMovie to QuickTime formats.
Then spend some more money to buy the Pro upgrade to QuickTime Player 7 so you can use this third party software (not supported by the newer versions of iMovie).

  • After exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

after exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • Converting from VHS to Digital Media - best digital encoding format to use

Looking for a little insight into the VHS to digital media world.
I have several VHS tapes (~30) which I would like to convert to digital media for further editing. From what I can find online most “Home Movie” conversion companies encode to mpeg2 on a DVD.
I have done some of my own VHS to DV format conversions but has many of you know this is very time consuming and I would like to locate a company that can convert my VHS to DV and return back to me on a hard drive. In addition I have taken these conversion edited them in FCE and made DVDs in iDVD. Now I am looking to outsource the conversion process.
I am looking to have delivered the raw DV converted file from the VHS conversion. Does anyone know of a reputable / reliable Conversion Company that can supply this service?
If you think I am going down the wrong road in asking for the raw DV files please let me know and explain what you feel the best alternative is so I can edit in FCE and why this or that method is better, just as good, or is done as raw DV files from VHS tapes are just not required for some reason.
If this is the case what is the best digital file to be working / editing with in FCE? The file format I should be asking for from a video conversion company.
    Thank you,
    Keith

Some thoughts, all of which you may have already considered:
Each hour of video will produce around 13GB of QuickTime files, so thirty two-hour VHS tapes would consume almost 400GB.
Thirty DVDs will be a lot less expensive than a 500GB hard drive.
Given the native resolutions of the different formats, my guess is that, if you had your VHS tapes converted to DVD, then converted those files to QuickTime for use in FCE, you'd have a hard time distinguishing that footage from what you'd get by capturing directly to QuickTime from those same VHS tapes. It might be interesting to do a comparison.
