Converting from Vinyl to digital and removing hiss

We just got this new turntable that will convert old 45s to digital but the recordings have a lot of hiss because of the age of the vinyl itself. Is there any way to remove the hiss in logic? If not is there a recommended program?

I used SoundSoap <http://www.bias-inc.com/products/soundSoap2/> to take the hiss out of old tapes from the early 1980's. It really works well and actually enhanced the sound in a positive way.
You can also try the Noise Gate plug in Logic or even a plain old EQ plug (just create a downward narrow Q filter and sweep it thru the frequency range to try and locate the hiss).

    Ferd II solved it.
Go to iPhoto>Preferences...>Accounts...and remove the MobileMe account. Then go to System Preferences...>MobileMe, and sign out.

  • Converting from VHS to Digital Media - best digital encoding format to use

Looking for a little insight into the VHS to digital media world.
I have several VHS tapes (~30) which I would like to convert to digital media for further editing. From what I can find online most “Home Movie” conversion companies encode to mpeg2 on a DVD.
I have done some of my own VHS to DV format conversions but has many of you know this is very time consuming and I would like to locate a company that can convert my VHS to DV and return back to me on a hard drive. In addition I have taken these conversion edited them in FCE and made DVDs in iDVD. Now I am looking to outsource the conversion process.
I am looking to have delivered the raw DV converted file from the VHS conversion. Does anyone know of a reputable / reliable Conversion Company that can supply this service?
If you think I am going down the wrong road in asking for the raw DV files please let me know and explain what you feel the best alternative is so I can edit in FCE and why this or that method is better, just as good, or is done as raw DV files from VHS tapes are just not required for some reason.
If this is the case what is the best digital file to be working / editing with in FCE? The file format I should be asking for from a video conversion company.
    Thank you,
    Keith

Some thoughts, all of which you may have already considered:
Each hour of video will produce around 13GB of QuickTime files, so thirty two-hour VHS tapes would consume almost 400GB.
Thirty DVDs will be a lot less expensive than a 500GB hard drive.
Given the native resolutions of the different formats, my guess is that, if you had your VHS tapes converted to DVD, then converted those files to QuickTime for use in FCE, you'd have a hard time distinguishing that footage from what you'd get by capturing directly to QuickTime from those same VHS tapes. It might be interesting to do a comparison.

  • Converting from Word to PDF and printer settings

I have a program that writes letters automatically in Word and if we have a PDF file as an enclosure when the letter prints, it actually converts the word document as a whole to a PDF. This part works great, however, when the letter begins with Word we have the Page setup for the printer to print the first page on letterhead (tray 1) and all pages after to plain paper (tray 2). When the word document converts to pdf, it is printing everything from tray 1 which is letterhead.
Is there any way to convert a document to pdf and keep the page settings as well?
    Thanks for any input!

Don't have an answer. However, you might consider creating the WORD document so that the letterhead is built in and you do not need the paper.

  • Converting From Mp3 to Wav and also dividing a song.

Is it possible to convert an mp3 to .wav and then split the entire song into 10-second wavs. If there is a way, please share. Thank you. I'm using Quicktime Pro

    Nathan, welcome to these discussions.
Open the .mp3 file with QT Pro.
Set the "in and out" (selection markers) to the ten seconds you wish to convert and use "Copy" from the Edit menu.
Open a new QT Player window (Control-N) and then Control-V (paste).
Choose "Export" (File menu) and then choose Sound to Wave.
Repeat for all the conversion you want to make.

  • I have just purchased the PDF to word converter and I am trying to convert from PDF to word and keep getting a conversion failure? If this can't be fixed how do I cancel my subscription?

I keep getting a conversion failure when I try to convert from a PDF into word. Does anyone have any suggestions?

To use the online service you must upload the file to the service's web site after sign in to your account.
The ExportPDF and the PDF Pack Services provide for PDF to Word / Excel.
Each has its own dedicated user-2-user forum where you'll want to browse and ask questions.

  • How can i convert from alac to mp3 and export to artist/album hierarchy

I am trying to populate a 32GB SD Card with music to listen to in my car.  My itunes library is largely in apple lossless format, but the car stereo does not play that format.
I have created a playlist of all of the music I'd like to have on the SD Card (but its in apple lossless format).
So what I'd like to do is:
    a)     Bulk convert a large number of apple lossless files to MP3.
    b)     Export the MP3 files to an external Finder folder, organized in Artist/Album hierarchy
    c)     Delete the MP3 files from the itunes library so as to have just the apple lossless version maintain in the itunes library
Sounds pretty simple, but I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure it out.
I can find a way to do the conversion and export the MP3 files (and subsequently deleted from the itunes library), but they will not be organized by Artist/Album in the Finder folder.
Similarly, I can export a bunch of files from itunes to a Finder folder and have it be organized by Artist/Album.
I just can't do one followed by the other.
I suppose this would also work if instead of exporting the newly created MP3 files, it would establish a new playlist in itunes with these.  Then, I could just export them and have them then organized by Artist/Album; and then I could delete all of the MP3 files in the playlist.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to accomplish this goal?  (I do know the manual way of doing this, but am trying to figure out a faster, more elegant way).
    M

I ask because you wrote, "I just can't do one followed by the other".
You can. Just do one followed by the other.
    Convert the files to mp3.
Put them all into a playlist.  A smart playlist with Kind is MP3 and added in last one day will do it for you.
Select the songs in teh smart playlist
Run Export to Album Folders script.
Select all the songs in the playlist then Command Delete to remove them from iTunes.

  • Converting from String to float and vice versa

I'm interested in people's thoughts on where common logic to convert between various field types should be stored in an application to minimise code duplication and maintenance.
I have an application which consists of an object and a jPanel which displays and maintains this object. The object contains a number of private float fields which are accessed by getters and setters. The jPanel contains one jTextField for each of the fields within the object.
Currently I have numerous lines of code in the jPanel to convert between the values needed by the getters and setters in the object (i.e. float) and the String value used by the jTextFields. This code handles cases where the String value may be blank or null.
I've thought that one alternative to having all this conversion/validation code in the jPanel is to create a second set of getters and setters for each field which accept and return String values.
What do people think about this? Is it advisable for only have one getter and setter for a variable? Should I put the conversion/validation logic for each field into a seperate common routine?
    Thanks,
    James.

    Hi James,
You should go with whatever works best for you. By creating multiple getters and setter you save yourself from repeating the same code throughout your program.

  • Uploading files converted from vinyl

Please excuse my ignorance but I am new to the iPod game. I have a large collection of mp3s that I created from my vinyl and tape collection. Unfortunately they don't seem to appear on my iPod Classic. Is there any way to get them to show?

    Hello Glosterfan,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you imported these mp3 files into iTunes first and then attempted to sync them to your iPod?
If not, your first step would be to import these files in your iTunes library.
Have you set your iPod up yet to Sync music with your iTunes library? If not, this guide may be of more help than anything explanation I can give on how to sync music to your iPod.

Just give a few more details regarding what you have done so far. Hope this helps you get started at least.

  • Used Photoshop Image processor to batch convert from CR2 to Jpeg and the edits don't stick

Ok, so I had a huge wedding where the bride paid me to deliver a ton of images.  Well, i did all my edits in ACR and then photoshop.  While in photoshop all the edits look to have been applied.  So, I use edit > Scripts>Image processor to convert the CR2 files to Jpeg in one fell Swoop.   Well, on my last run though (checking any images for missed edits or what not), none of of the edits were applied to the saved jpegs.  So I bring one up in Photoshop (the saved Jpeg) and the edits are applied in Photoshop.  So I click save and it tries to save as a PSD file (which it was not originally saved as).  I click to JPEG and it asks to replace the existing file and I do.  Voila, all the edits are a-pplied.  Now, I have about 200 images that I need to do this on.
Is this common with the image processor?  Is it not for converting processed Raw files to JPEG and keep the edits?
I'm very frustrated since now, depending on my misunderstand of the tool, I have to spend extra time saving the files again.  (At least I don't have to re-edit them)

I have action I wrote so that on large groups of pictures I hit my actions.  It goes through the whole set.  Then I hit my flatten and it goes through the whole set.  Then I go to scripts > image processor  and covert them to jpeg.
The weird thing is when I bring up the jpegs in photoshop, all the edits are there.  When I look through Photo Mechanic or upload them to the web, they aren't

  • Converting from MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 to MIDP 1.0 and CLDC 1.0

    Hello
I have a Midlet that I set initially to use MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1. I changed the platforms to MIDP 1.0, after i changed to MIDP 1.0 i get an Obfuscation failed with error code 1. error. I am using the NetBeans Progaurd obfuscator.
When I change to CLDC 1.0 i get a Preverification failed with error code 1 Floating point result not allowed error.
    Can someone please help.

When I change to CLDC 1.0 i get a Preverification failed with error code 1 Floating point result not allowed error.
I am using bouncy castle cryptographic classes, i assume these use floating points. This is probably the reason why i cannot convert to CLDC 1.0.
How about converting to MIDP 2.0?

  • Importing from After Effects - Curves and Remove Grain

I did some color grading in After Effects, I applied two Color Corrections: 1) "Curves" and 2) "Remove Grain".
However when I exported to into a Premiere Pro Project and then imported it as a project into CS5.5, it said "The preset used by one or more sequences in the project  requires third party components that could not be located...."
    Then it said
    "Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE CurvesCustom
Video Filter missing:  AE.VISINF Grain Removal"
    Where can I get these?
PS: I have the original boxed FULL VERSION of CS5.5 Master Collection.

shooternz, I guess it's quite clear what  ectobuilder50 is talking about.
He created a composition within AE, applied some filters on footage and then exported this composition as Pr Pro project.
Then he tried to open that project in Pr Pro and got this:
ectobuilder50, I'd recommend you to use Adobe Dynamic Link instead.
Create a composition within AE and apply any filters and/or presets you like, then just save AE project.
Create a brand new or open existing Pr Pro project, then use File -> Adobe Dynamic Link -> Import After Effect Composition... if you are on Windows or smth like this if you are on Mac:
