Converting from Windows XP to Mavericks

HI, GUYS, maybe i can answer you all...
i own a toshiba windows xp home edition...
when i bought it it was a service pack 2... in a second time i upgraded it in service pack 3...
now the morherboard got unworking, and my pc is too old to get repaired...
i needed a new tool and oriented my attention on apple world, and bought a macbook pro retina with mavericks... it was o. k. for my job... it was what i needed at that time!
at the starting up it upgraded to yosemite, as it is now...
it was told me that i could connect my mac to my hard d. device, but that i should have to pay attention only to one thing: every file there could be seen, but not all could be red... apple players can recognise only un-microsoft files! everything but not microsoft... in fact if i download microsoft applications i can find them in "downloads" folders, but i cannot open them...
this issue happens WORLDWIDE for historical and commercial reasons, but laws in EUROPEAN UNION establish a totally free circulation of information, so EUROPEAN UNION decided that in its territory NO MONOPOLY MAY BE HELD IN ANY COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENT! there are different online tools to make compatible microsoft-to-apple files and apple-to-microsoft files...
of course it 's necessary a bit of time to empower a software, and it 's necessary another bit of time to empower the compatibility tool too... that 's why elder softwares can work better than new ones... so solutions are two, as here described in other posts:
1st- downgrading up to first top-level compatible version...
2nd- waiting for any solution that could fix the issue...
REMEMBER ALL THAT SKYPE IS A MICROSOFT PLATFORM...
that answer regards EVERY ISSUE of inter-producer compatibility!
GREETINGS FOM SICILY!

You need to be much clearer about your problem.  What version of Easy File Transfer are you running?  Is this on XP?  If so you may have the wrong version of Easy Transfer.  There is a version specifically for XP.  The version for
XP is found @
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4503  Otherwise, Easy Transfer should not be making any reference to your hardware.  Easy Transfer backs up software settings and data.
But your post is much to vague to provide you with a definitive solution.

Unable to install iTunes after converting from Windows Vista to Windows 7.  Am told installation was successful, then "iTunes was not installed correctly", followed by "Error 7 (Windows error 193).  I have my iPod plugged into my computer via USB port.  What am I doing wrong?

i have the only account on my laptop so have checked and am the account administrator
i run windows 7 home premium
I have the same problem and
have followed the link uninstalling in the correct order,
    then restarted as per instructions,
went to Apple to download itunes,
    hit download now,
Visit the iTunes download page. Click Download Now to download the iTunes installer. When prompted, click Save (instead of Run).
did not get a save instead of run prompt
Right click on iTunesSetup or iTunes64Setup (the installer you downloaded in step 3).
If you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: Choose "Run as administrator."
i can only click run as administrator from right clicking the shortcut on my desktop screen
If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.
    sick of doing this

    troubleshooting no better
please help. pulling my hair out at this stage

not working since i clicked yes
also i have gone to restore previous point and ffs there are no restore points before my multiple reinstalls
really dont want to have to restore factory settings

  • How tedious is it to convert from windows to mac?

My windows (sony vaio running XP) is dying.  Got the dreaded 3 beeps on start up today...so will be shopping for a new desktop soon.
I have an ipad and iphone that I've owned for about a year now...and I must say I REALLY like them.  Have been contemplating going all mac....but EVERYTHING i do on my desktop is obviously windows based.  My biggies are quicken....i have files that go back 10 years and all my excel docs.  Has anyone recently made the jump from windows to mac...how hard is it really to convert everything over?

Millions have done what you are contemplating, most don't have any issues at all. I f you haven't already go to your local Apple Store and ask your questions and you will get honest replies, I did when I made the switch 7 years ago. I converted from Quicken to iBank which imported my Quicken data extremely easily. As for MS Office, simply get MS Office for Mac and you're set. It's compatible with the Windows version and opening files is the same across platforms.
I would also STRONGLY recommend you look at this Apple Mac Basics article:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/pctomac/
Also when you get a Mac and turn it on for the first time, one the steps it has is asking if you are migrating from a PC to the Mac. Simply choose yes and follow the on-screen prompts and you're set. You can also Google Migration Assistant for Windows for more detailed info if you want.

  • How to convert from windows media into iTunes without creating two albums with one featured song by itself?

I found out how to convert my windows media player music into my iTunes since I just joined the apple world. I was able to do one CD but I tried to convert Alicia Keys Element of Freedom and all of the songs converted except "Put It In a Love Song" featuring Beyonce. If it's going to do that, how do I keep it from doing all of my albums that have featured artists so it'll be in one album. I don't want the album and then the sole song sitting there. I've tried to find out if anyone's addressed that, but I'm not sure if people are addressing it because it's coming from Windows Media and not the store yet.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • [Solved] Converting from windows 8 to 7 GT70 2OC

    Hi,
I am wondering how to convert to windows 7.  I honestly can't stand windows 8.  Can I just flash a windows 7 BIOS and put in my own SSD to boot off of?  If not, how would I go about this.
    Thanks

Agree with zipper, give Windows 8.1 a chance. Try upgrade to Windows 8.1, it's not that bad.
Before upgrade to Windows 8.1, make sure you follow the upgrade instruction.
    http://event.msi.com/2013/win8-1/upgrade_instructions.html
As for changing OS to Windows 7, you don't need to flash Windows 7 BIOS.
Just change the boot mode to Legacy in BIOS Menu and install the Windows 7 OS.

  • Convert from windows elements to Mac

If buy a Mac, can the files created in windows for elements be converted to the Mac?

Yes, and if you use organizer, your catalog can be converted to the mac version if you have at least PSE 9 in windows. Do a full backup in windows to a removable drive, using the organizer's backup command, then restore to the mac. If you buy the boxed version of PSE 11, it includeds both mac and windows versions.

  • CONVERT FROM WINDOWS TO LINUX

    Hi
I have developed one project using netbeans, struts, and jdk1.5u3 in windows.
Now i want to convert the same to LINUX.
    What should i Do.???
    Please Help!!!!!!!
    Thanks & Regards
    GLASS_FISH

You shouldn't have to do anything. Java is write once, run anywhere. (or in other opinions write once, debug everywhere)
So as long as you have the necessary support apps installed on the linux box (Java, Tomcat...) , it should work.
    Cheers,

  • Converting from Windows to MAC

So I am moving everthing from my windows environment to my new MAC environment.....
I was using a windows home server to to house all my music files, the PC with iTunes had a mapped drive to the folder with the music files.
on the advice from the genuis at my local apple store I copied all the music files to a USB hard drive, then connected the USB drive to the MAC and copied all the files into the music folder on my MAC
When open iTunes it does not show the files or folders and I can't find the "import" command on the new iTunes.  If I search for a song or artist it does find it and I can manually add it to the library from the search box.  I am not intersted in clicking on 3500 songs to manually add them all.
    Thoughts, advice, comments?
Every thing I have used so far with Apple just works and I love that, so I know there is a way to do this without driving back down to the genius bar and asking them.
    Thanks in advance

    This article may help.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146958/move_itunes_windows_mac.html
The genius guy was almost right but you need to select the folder above to copy ie the iTunes folder
There are some other preparatory steps in there to.

  • Converting from Windows 7 to Windows 8

Lost many thumbnail prints in the transfer.  Designation is there, but picture replaced with a "daisy" and ?.  How do I recover??

Until Windows 8 gets its first service pack (or is replaced by version 8.1), it's going to have these kinds of little set-backs. The daisy placeholder means that the program does not include the necessary components yet to create your thumbnails.
    But, meantime:
WHICH VERSION OF PREMIERE ELEMENTS ARE YOU USING? This alone makes a world of difference.
Where are you seeing these "daisy" thumbnails? On you Premiere Elements timeline? In the Organizer's media browser? This too is very important to know.
    Also:
    * Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime from Apple, per the program's requirements?
    * What model of camcorder is your video from and what format and resolution is it?
    * Have you started a project yet set up for this format of video so that Premiere Elements can download and activate the necessary components?
    * What happens when you put one of these clips at the beginning of your timeline? (It must be the FIRST clip on your timeline in order for the program to set up your project specs to match it -- and then it will only work in version 11.)

  • Considering changing from Windows 7 to Mavericks.

Can I print mailing labels to fit common standard sizes, e.g. Avery.  And can I use my existing names and addresses database in Excel/Numbers to produce these labels in Pages?

Whilst it might seem odd to bring your mailing lists into Contacts (import them as csv), there is some method in the madness.
You can easily create Groups in Contacts to do your printing, or simply select what you want from the list of Contacts and then print those.
Contacts doesn't just have the Avery labels as part of its print, it also allows you to do quite a bit of formatting and additional graphics as part of the output.
If you can get to an Apple Store spend as much time as you like exploring the functionality of the software that comes with your Mac. One thing you will notice relative to your Windows experience is how good it all looks on screen, and the dozens of ways you can sort or examine your work in Finder. Including massive previews of most files.
There is a much greater unified look and behavior than on Windows as well. eg The Dictionary is part of the System and available most everywhere, as is Auto-substitution, Images, your Music and Video library, fonts and many other resources.
It is not 100% as smooth and perfect as Apple makes out, in fact it is advisable to remain a little cautious of Apple's assertions, but it is more secure and generally less hastle than Windows.

  • New Mac OS - MBP convert from Windows

I just purchased my first Mac and I am loving it!!!  I've used Windows for the past 20 years.  I'm trying to decide if I should use something like Paralells to have W7 on my MBP.  Since I can install Office 2011, the only reason to have W7 installed is for specific work applications where there is no Mac OS version.  I'm leaning toward not having W7 installed partly because I'm not sure how the virtualization tools will affect the MBP performance.  I can potentially get by without these applications installed.  Could I get some feedback on folks who use both Mac OS and W7 on their system?  Thanks.

I use Parallels to run Win7 on a MacBook Pro 13". Just be sure to assign enough RAM to the virtual machine  so that there will be no loss of efficiency. With 8GB I can easily assign 4 GB. That said , if you find that you can do without Windows, then consider going Mac only. If you need an office suite to replace MS Office there is always Open Office or LibreOffice both of which are free downloads.

  • My current system on my current system on my computerIs windows XP 3, I have been told that I should convert to Windows 7,

how can I convert from Windows XP 3 to Windows 7? I have been advised that I should do this because Microsoft no longer supports windows XP three.

    Hi jadmwa,
As Dwight_473 mentioned, we will need to check if the hardware is compatible.
Additionally, we will need to consider to conduct the upgrade or clean install.
Upgrade. This option replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7, and keeps your files, settings, and programs in place on your computer.
Custom. This option replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7, but doesn't preserve your files, settings, and programs. It's sometimes referred to as a clean installation for that reason.
For more information about upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 and clean install, we could refer to the following article.
