Converting home video using iTunes

I have a new iPod with video 3rd generation. Everything works great with all video I purchase through iTunes (I'm using the latest version for XP). However, when I try to convert a home video file (in the correct format) to play on the iPod, only the audio plays... the video portion is white. For example, I take a video clip (.avi format) and convert to .mpeg4 or .mov or other acceptable video format and import it into iTunes. The video plays back great in iTunes. I then 'convert' so I can install on the iPod, and the video turns white and only the sound comes through. Any thoughts? Thanks.

No offence taken!!! As you sent your response I finally got success! I am not sure what the problem was.... I seemed to have a dll clash, but not sure if that caused any issues. Anyway, re-downloaded and installed and all seems to be fine now. Thanks so much for your help and perseverance! I shall now continue to convert my videos.

  • Converted home videos to itunes not working with ipod touch

So I finally was able to convert some home movies to itunes but now they will not work with my ipod touch. I get a error message saying "can not be played on this ipod". I also can't get the movies to work with my ipod video (classic) either, how do I fix this? And yes there is enough space for the videos.

if the files are in iTunes, select one (or all) and choose +create iPod or iPhone version+ from the advanced menu. try syncing the newly created file(s) to your Touch.
    what happens ?

  • Converting Home Video

I was just wondering if there is a way to convert home video. I have a bunch of AVI home video files and are wondering if i could convert them to work on my 5g ipod.

I f you check the link it will tell you exactly how to do it.
Videora is just one of 2 pieces of software you do need to transfer AVI to the ipod.
1st you import the avi or other file from a dvd disk into dvd decrypter then you transcode the file with Videora then its ready to go to the pod.
Again here is the link which has a step by step guide, I did a search on google for the dvd decypter and downloaded it from the third on the list.

have fun. its not rocket science.

  • Cannot drag & drop clip in Home Video of itune 11.1.3.8

It has been a few months since I last drop video clip onto the itune and then transfer it to my iphone by clicking the Sync button.
Today, when I tried to drop more clips into my Home Videos under the Movies to transfer to my iphone, I NO LONGER able to do so because, when  I tried to drag clip over the itunes, the cursor icon immediately changes to a "do not enter" (i.e. a line across a circle) as soon as the cursor is over the itunes appl.
I then tried deleting a couple of clips which are currently on my iphone (Home Videos on iTunes),  and then tried re-add it back, I faced the same problem.
PS:  I had recently updated itunes to current verion 11.1.3.8 and I'm runing Windows 7 on my PC.
Can someone please help and explain to me what is happening ?
    Thanks in adavance,

Having the same identical type problem with iPod Touch 5th Gen with iTunes. We have updated iOS to 7.0.4  (11B554a) and iTunes to 11.1.3.8.
We have tried the same steps as you have. I am just sorry SJ is no longer with us. My mistake is doing software upgrades early should have waited at least 9 months, My Bad, as the sayings go.
Was going to buy another iPod Touch for my husband but maybe should forget that, it is apparent that Apple needs to hire a few people who know how to test software.

  • How do i play a home video in iTunes using apple tv

I have imported an mp4 into iTunes and it appears in the home video section under movies.  I cannot seem to find it on my Apple TV though.
To problem solve, I first created a new version of the video by going to file > create new version > create version for apple tv
The new version appeared next to the original, but still will not appear using my apple tv. I am trying to play this video on my home tv, but not having any luck.
    Suggestions?

You would be accessing the Computers icon - Movies - Home Movies.
If it doesn't appear, make sure it is compatible (see below)
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Playing Home Videos from iTunes

    Gday All,
We are new to Apple TV and are still working through exactly what we can and can't do. We have several Macs in the house and 1 PC all with iTunes 9 installed. The Apple TV can see all the shared libraries (ie the computers running iTunes) and we have been able to play music from iTunes using the Apple TV as the 'output' device.
I would like to know if it is possible to create movies (like home movies from a video camera) and import them into iTunes so that they can be played on the Apple TV. Basically this question came about because my daughter recently took some video while on holidays and thought that if she put them into the movies folder in iTunes she should be able to play them via Apple TV on our plasma TV. Unfortunately Apple TV doesn't even see the videos.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Yes you can watch home video on the tv. Your video needs to be in the correct format which is:
    Video formats supported
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels, 640 by 480 pixels, 720 by 480 pixels (anamorphic), or high-definition 720p
MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
If the video file is imported into itunes, you are pretty much well on the way. Ensure that after adding the file to itunes that it is tagged properly (ie as a movie) and that the library has been synced. If the video still cannot be seen or played by the tv, select 'convert selection for apple tv from the advanced menu.
If this doesn't work, you may need a third party conversion tool, but try the above first and we'll take it from there.

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • Chooppy playback of video using iTunes 7.0.2

I have finally gotten things, two months on, to where I can view iTunes m4V files (TV shows that i downloaded) in a rather normal way, using iTunes, on small screen only,
    however,
the skipping persists when in iTunes I click on to FULL SCREEN mode.
This skipping of audio and video does not occur with other file formats in players such as WIMP 11, and InterVideo DVD.
Followed all instruction to set everything correctly.
    Please help.
    Please advise.
    Robert

I built a new computer over this weekend (well, I purchased a Dell XPS 410 and did some upgrades to it) and am having teh same issue rj is describing above with stuttering playback. However all my video playback in iTunes is choppy - even videos that I have converted from other formats.
I have to lean toward this being an iTunes problem as I just checked some Quicktime HD and Windows Media HD trailers at 1080p and they play just fine (spectacularly, actually, as compared to my old PC). I tested the Windows Media HD file from both my RAID arrays and it plays perfectly from both (I only have QT, not QT Pro, so I can't download the trailers from Apple to try them on both arrays unfortunately).
I have to head in to the office now but I will do some more troubleshooting this evening.
I did NOT have the latest version of iTunes on my old PC (was running 7.0.1) but I hadn't watched any movies probably since upgrading to 7.0 (at which point what I was watching - Heroes - was just fine in full screen mode).
    System Specs:
    Dell XPS 410
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    2GB DDR-667
Windows XP Pro SP2 with all available updates
2x WD Raptor 74GB in RAID0 (benched at 109MB/s ave transfer, 211MB/s burst)
    2x WD Caviar SE16 320GB in RAID0 (benched at 113MB/s ave transfer, 310MB/s burst)
    DVD-DL (SATA)
    CD-RW/DVD (SATA)
ATI Radeon X1950Pro with modified Catalyst 6.9 drivers (only thing that works right now, was thinking this was the problem but since all other video works fine I'm sure it isn't now)

  • How do I delete videos (.m4v) files from Home Videos in iTunes

I have some .m4v video files in a folder called "Home Videos". How do I delete the files from my iTunes (version 11.2)? There doesn't seem to be an option to do that. I would also want the library file to be updated to reflect the deletion.
    File Path:
    /Public/Shared/iTunes/iTunes/iTunes Media/Home Videos/

  • HT4914 Can i upload and have access to home videos in iTunes Match?

Hello. I have been uploading all my music to iTunes Match and using iCloud, only to discover (apparently) that all of this does not include non-purchased (home) videos. I want to be able to put them in the cloud and stream on demand from multiple devices. Am I missing something here?

Misread your first post, I didn't notice the non-purchased part.
The only way to get videos into the Videos app on iOS devices is by buying/downloading them directly in the iTunes store app on it or by syncing them from a computer's iTunes. So as well as needing a cloud service to store them, you will need an app that can connect to that service and be able to play whatever format your videos are in You've tried searching for something such as 'cloud video stream' in your country's store to see if that finds anything ?

  • How Do I Get Home Videos into iTunes?

I have 6 home videos that I want to put into iTunes....both the iTunes library on the hard drive and the iTunes app.  I had them in there but for some reason they got mixed up and I deleted them. I have the copies so how do I get them into the iTunes library on my hard drive and into the itunes app so I can look at them.
It is such a mess and I'm trying to make my question as simple as possible.  Here is one thing that happens...when  I tried to put the videos into iTunes they went into a folder called Home Videos.  But there is no folder on iTunes called Home Videos....it is called Movies which is where the videos were before.  There is no place for me to access a folder called Home Videos because there isn't one.  And, If I access the old Movie Folder it is empty.  The Movie folder is permanent....put there by iTunes so I can't delete it and add add one called Home Videos.
Can anyone straighten out this mess?  The only good news is that I still have copies of the home videos...they were not deleted.

Drag them into the library folder.

  • I copied a home video to itunes but it plays a minute and then stops

I created a slideshow with music using Movie Maker. I selected to output as MPEG-4/H.264 Video file. I then wanted to import to iTunes to play on my Apple TV. It looks like the file gets imported and shows the length of the file, but when I play it through the video stops after a minute and 1/2 and will not continue at all. Anyone experience this problem? If so, what can I do? I also know there's no hiccups in the file because I've watched this entire 30 minute video using Quicktime before proceding to iTunes import.
    Need help!
