Converting Illustrator documents to Indesign and back

For one of my client we want to try to use the new software for automatic artwork creation. At this moment this software is only capable of generating Indesign files. What we want to do is to create a template in Illustrator and export this document to an Indesign file. This Indesign file will be uploaded in the software.
So that client can add their own text. As soon as the file is ready, we will download this Indesign document. Once the finished document is downloaded we want to export the text layer back to illustrator and place this text layer into the original illustrator template, cause we want to deliver the files in Illustrator instead of Indesign.
Do you know if there’s a way to export Illustrator files to indesign without having to do a complete new layout in Illustrator?
COPY paste is not an option at this moment. I am looking for any script or pluging or any software which does it automatically.
Please let me know the possibilities.
Thank you.

You mentioned: . . . we want to try to use the new software for automatic artwork creation.
What new software? A name and a link would be helpful.
Why the constant switched back and forth from Illustrator to InDesign?
Are you aware of Adobe InCopy? This is separate Adobe application that allows people without a copy of InDesign to edit elements of an InDesign document.
. . . Once integrated, writers, editors and designers can simultaneously work on the same page; the designer creates the page layout with InDesign, while editors simultaneously edit different stories with InCopy, via the Adobe LiveEdit rights management system.
Here is a link to the Adobe InCopy forum: InCopy
You won't need Illustrator at all.
Again you mentioned: . .cause we want to deliver the files in Illustrator instead of Indesign.
When you are sending the final artwork to be printed you shouldn't be sending native files like Illustrator or InDesign.
You will be sending a PDF which will still retain all the text and drawn elements as vectors.
Pixel-based images will still remain pixels, but this is the same whether you use Illustrator or InDesign.

  • Is it possible to change the fonts in an illustrator document in Indesign or any other program BESIDES illustrator?

    Is there a quick way to change/replace the font of an illustrator document in inDesign or any other app? Thanks

    Depends on what is in the AI file.
    CD does a normally good job unless there are meshes and a particular type of transparency (I forget which one). I usually don't get "fancy" AI files. Stock & Trade, bare-bones types of files. these open in a few of the applications I use daily. That said, I never do it unless I need to return a format other than AI--because, well, why? I always try to use the originating application with the exception of older EPS files. As a lot of the daily stuff I do is screen printing, and because most every screen printer I deal with use CD, at some point the art has to go into CD.

  • Convert external documents to PDF and print

    Hi,
    I have a SAP script and with some help from SDN I am at point where I can convert this SAP script to PDF using the function module below
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_OTF'
    EXPORTING
    FORMAT = 'PDF'
    * MAX_LINEWIDTH = 132
    * ARCHIVE_INDEX = ' '
    * COPYNUMBER = 0

    IMPORTING
    BIN_FILESIZE = BINFILESIZE
    * BIN_FILE =
    TABLES
    otf = DATAB[]
    lines = PDFTAB[].
    Now my requirement is, let's say I have an external doc(word or excel) residing on my PC. I have complete path of this file in my hand. I want to convert this file to PDF and append it to the above PDFTAB[] and print to the printer 'TDDEST' as a single document.

  • How do i ope an illustrator file on indesign and then continue editing?

    Designed a business card in illustrator. Now want to open it in indesign and then continue editing, placing etc.

    You don't do it exactly that way. Once you Place the file in ID (AI file with PDF Compatibility enabled), you right-click on the the file in ID and choose Edit Original which will open the file back in AI. There you can continue editing.

  • Convert Pages document to PDF and maintain html links accurately

    Hi - I am trying to convert a Pages document to pdf, simple right? go to Print / PDF / Save as pdf...
    I have also tried Print / Save as Postscript and Print / Open in PDF
    with the same results, which are...
    Pages dutifully converts to pdf, but on some pages where I have multiple links the formatting position of the links is all over the place on the page, some links are conflated on the page so it says one thing 'www.bbc.co.uk' for example but when you click that link it links to 'www.cnn.com' instead because CNN is the link a little further on in the line, or in the line of text above, or whole sections of the page (half of one page) become a link!
    I have checked the formatting positions and link lables over and over again in Pages and they are spot on, no confusion, no leaking in positional accuracy, it is only when converting to pdf or postscript
    I have many html links in my document so it is vital that the exact position of the formatted links in Pages is converted accurately.
    Any advice on
    a) using Pages Print command accurately? or
    b) third party apps (really dont want to go there)
    that might convert more accurately?
    many thanks

    Thank you Roger!
    I went back to 09 as suggested which identified the section in question as having a whole load of text that had become associated with one of the links - goodness knows how or why - but this wasn't apparent in the Pages 5 doc, nothing explicit signified that there was an issue with the formatting until converting to pdf
    It took me a while to strip it all out without losing all the other formatting! but done now and converting beautifully to pdf with complete accuracy in terms of formatting positions of linked text...
    I then reimported back into Pages 5 to see if I could make sense of it in the same way, long story short no chance, there is still background formatting in there, despite going through it line by line, character by character and removing all traces of any link through the 'right click' 'remove link' function - as soon as you convert to pdf lots of text becomes active again even though it is absolutely not visible in the Pages 5 doc
    Clearly, despite a strong desire to continue in 5 from a being uptodate perspective, I shall stick to the 09 world and wait for Apple to sort things out.
    If anyone from Apple is reading this, it has cost me approx 2 days of messing about to get to a point where I give up on 5 and return to 09. Please resolve as soon as possible!

  • Illustrator files into InDesign and Editing

    Hello,
    I designed some pages in Illustrator that were intended to be coded as a web site, and now the client wants to print them for a trade show.
    He's adding content, and now it looks as though there will be 16 pages.
    The thought of re-creating, editing and then flattening and saving as PDF 16 pages separately (though using a template), makes my head spin a little, so I'm thinking I should use InDesign so I can have one multi-page document instead.
    I've searched and found differing opinions on the most efficient way to achieve this.
    One suggestion was to drag and drop from Illustrator to InDesign, but then I lose the text editing capabilities, which I will need because my client keeps making text changes.
    I'm a little overwhelmed, and some advice on how best to approach this would be VERY much appreciated! The files are basically just a couple of layered background colors, a photo with a title at 85% opacity and text.
    Thanks for any help!
    Jen

    The thought of re-creating,
    Why re-creating?
    Me, I would keep Illustrator files in Illustrator. If you want to put them together to make one big PDF, maybe it would make sense to Place each one on a page in Indesign, but make the edits in Illustrator and update the links in Indesign.
    I don't have Illustrator CS4 yet, but I read somewhere that it finally does multipage AI files. So if you have AI CS4 you could combine your files into one file (I think).

  • Convert Illustrator File to InDesign

    An outside agency set up some templates in Illustrator that we need to have in InDesign. What is the easiest way to convert the files? Any info is greatly appreciated.

    You can place an Illustrator file, but other than scaling, rotating, and cropping the content is not editable in InDesign.
    You can place the Illustrator file, set it's transparency to 50%, lock it's layer, then redraw the content on lower layers. Delete the template layer when finished.
    You can copy and paste content between Illustrator and InDesign. Basic shapes and simple paths work fine, including some gradients. Text is much more trouble than it should be. (Why call it a Suite if the programs can't share simple content like text?)
    I prefer option 2, using as little of option 3 as I can get away with. Obviously complex shapes are better copied than retraced.
    There is a
    plug-in for InDesign that imports PDFs. I have heard mixed opintions, but it's kind of like a pig with wings. Who cares how well it flies, it's
    that it flies that makes it interesting.

  • Converting docx files to pages and back?

    One colleague has sent me several files created in Microsoft Word.  I get an error "Import Error The file format is invalid." and the file will not open. I checked with the sender and she said it's a docx file even though the extension shown in my download folder is .doc. I've never had problems with MS Word files before.
    Anybody know how to fix this?
    I'm using iWork '09
    Lion 10.7.1

    To clarify: I never actually saw that extension.
    The files appear to me as filename.doc. The sender only told me their office system runs MS Office 2011 on Windows 7, and that their system converts .doc files into .docx format.That's the first I was aware of .docx.
    I did a little research and found that .docx is indeed a MS Word format and has been around since Office 2007. I've rarely had any problem importing or exporting since Leopard. So yes it would be something on her end. I've gotten documents from other individuals at this company that were fine.
    As a Mac user since OS 8, I habitually assume it's my job to resolve compatibility problems with PCs.

  • I installed the creative suite 6 design & web premium, everything works, photoshop, illustrator , except the indesign and I need it!

    Why I cant open it ? Why it doesn't have the logo on it like illustrator?

    Try running the installer again and focus on only adding the InDesign element.

  • Convert Illustrator text to path and use in Motion - How?

    Can someone please list in steps exactly how I would type text in Adobe Illustrator and use that as a path in Motion to animate the writing of the font used. I am trying to understand how to have text written on like handwriting, but all the descriptions on the forums have fallen short of actually describing how this is done.

    That's not what you want to do. Illustrator paths are too complex and convoluted. For instance, a capital "L" is not two strokes that form a right angle, it's six separate paths that are filled. If you could use the path in Motion, you would be tracing the lines that make up the letterform, not the letter itself.
    I would do this with the write-on effect. It creates an animated brush stroke that is used as a mask.
    Hope you get better advice.

  • Problem in converting ASCII value in Dev. and Production

    Hi...
    The ASCII values for # differ in the development and the production system.
    The code below (value 0009 ) populates # in the variable lv_sep.
    DATA: lv_sep TYPE x.
    FIELD-SYMBOLS : <field> TYPE x.
    ASSIGN lv_sep TO <field> CASTING TYPE x.
    <field> = 0009.
    The the development # = 0009 and in production # = 1000.
    Need to know why is this happening.

    How do you get the XML document? Do you use XSU? You can use:
    String str = qry.getXMLString();
    to get the result XML document in String.
    XSU will escape all of the < and >. Or the the XML document in
    one of the column will make the result XML doc not well-formed.
    Not quite understand your problem. You can send me your test
    case.
    i have an application that needs to send an XML document
    over the wire. For this reason, I need to convert the
    doc into a String at the sending side and back to Doc
    at the receiving side. This document is stored in a "CLOB"
    column in a table in the database. I use XDK to retrieve
    this entire row (including the CLOB - hence this is an XML
    document which has a column that itself is an xml document in
    string format - this is just the clob read in by XDK).
    Thus the row looks like
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW>
    <col1> A <col1>
    <CLOB_COL> ..clob value of an xml doc..</CLOB_COL>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    When I convert this document into String and back, one of the "<"
    tags in the clob column document gets changed to "<" and hence
    the parsing fails! I have used the latest label of the XDK build
    to get the latest parser jar but still i have the same problem.
    I am using the following routines for the conversion.
    /* for converting document to string */
    public static String convertToString(XMLDocument xml) throws
    IOException
    StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
    PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
    xml.print(pw);
    String result = sw.toString();
    return result;
    /* for converting string to document */
    public static XMLDocument convertToXml(String xmlStr)
    throws
    IOException,SAXException
    ByteArrayInputStream inStream = new
    ByteArrayInputStream(xmlStr.getBytes());
    DOMParser parser = new DOMParser();
    parser.setPreserveWhitespace(false);
    parser.parse(inStream);
    return parser.getDocument();
