Converting Imovie HD to Quicktime because PowerPC no longer supported

I have Imovie HD files that I created for use in my powerpoint presentations and had no trouble accessing them til I got Lion software with my MacBook Pro 2011.  HELP!  I need those files and cannot open them and don't know how to convert them!  Other tips on how to avoid this problem in future welcome.
Thanks!  Terese

If the version of iPhoto you have is from Snow Leopard and prior, then it will need to be updated to function with Lion or Mountain Lion. This is because applications which were meant to be usable on 32 bit versions of OS X  and non-intel processors, are no longer supported.
Any old programs which are not fully 64 bit and designed to work with intel processors will not function with Lion or Mountain Lion.

so what do I do about that?

PowerPC support was dropped with 10.7.  You either need to downgrade to 10.6 if possible or find a 10.7 compatible version.

is there a free app download to burn cd/dvd for os10.7?

Depending on what type of CD/DVD you intend to burn, you may not need any 3rd party applications:
    - To burn data CDs or DVDs simply insert a blank disc, drag files to the empty FInder window that represents the disc, then click the burn button (I think t appears near the top of the finder window).
    - To burn music CDs just use iTunes
    - To create disk images from a CD or DVD use Disk Utility.  To burn .iso or .cdr images to disc use Disk Utility.
About the only type of disc burning that you may need a 3rd party application for is to create a DVD movie (iDVD used to do this but no longer a supported app).  I haven't ever needed anything outside of the built-in capabilities of OS X when it comes to burnig CD or DVD media.  One suggestion is to make sure to remove all of the Roxio software so that it doesn't interfere with the built-in OS X capabilities.
    Hope this heps.

  • I can no no longer open any of my documents in microsoft word and a message saying powerpc no longer supported comes up

I cno no longer open any microsoft word documents- a message comes up saying powerpc no longer supported. help!

Office 2008, which does run in Lion, MUST BE INSTALLED BEFORE you upgrade to Lion, because its installation program has Rosetta-required PPC code.
Another issue is that many people with legacy MS Office data files are experiencing severe problems with translation of the legacy files by MS Office 2008 or 2011.
For example, I must access a file once a week that I created in MS Excel 2004 and its graphs are scrambled by Excel 2011.  I continue to access it with Excel 2004 in Snow Leopards installed in Parallels 7 in Lion:
If you decide to continue to use your version of MS Office (even as a backup to obtaining Office 2011, but with conversion problems), full installation instructions for Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) in Parallels 7 in Lion are here:

  • PowerPC no longer supported -what else can i do?

Have just purchased a sassoon font for MAC (at £67!) and error message 'powerpc no longer supported' appears when i try to install.
    What else can i do?
    Thanks

You have Mac OS Lion listed as your operating system, however, Lion is not supoorted on Power PC. If you really are running Lion natively then there should not be a problem. Not that I think you are mistaken about your OS, but it may be an error with the font itself that wrongly thinks you are using Power PC. You should really contact customer support of the company you bought the font from.

  • Cannot install printer driver powerpc no longer supported, but works on older mac

Since I use the same driver on an old Mac Book Air, which had a Lion upgrade put on it, whats the problem?
Yes I have a Dell 3115cn printer, which I use on PC's and My Mac Book Air.  The Air was upgraded to Lion and works fine with this printer... All is well
So I buy another MAC Book air, which has Lion pre installed on it.  Used migration assistant to copy Mac, but failed.  Could not log into main user, FileVault problem.  So start with a new user on  new mac.  Shame.
So I go to install the DELL 3115cn driver and I get the message "You can't open the application Dell 3115cn Installer because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".  Which I under stand what it means, but the same driver works fine on the other Lion machine.
Does anyone know if I can by pass this validation?    surly the message is completely wrong, else it would not work on my older mac (with lion installed)
May be only the installer is PowerPC stuff.  In which case does anyone know how to copy the Printer driver of the older mac.  Is that possible?

    Hello,
the problem is not the printer driver that does not work in Lion, the problem is the installer application which seems to be a PPC based application.
Eventually you may just copy the DELL printer driver itself from the working Air to the system in question.
You will find the appropriate folder (Printers) either in the user's Library or the systems library, depending of the former DELL installation method of the driver.
There will be a subfolder named DELL
As both library's are hidden in Lion you have to use "go to" -> "go to folder" from the menue bar to access the library's.

  • Maverick. Mail attachment now says can't be used because PowerMac no longer supported. Attachment worked before upgrade. Says Microsoft Word no longer supported.

A lease agreement attached to an e-mail opened fine in Pages with Mountain Lion this morning. I upgraded to Mavericks this afternoon and neither a revised offer nor the old one can be opened. A screen comes up saying I can't open Microsoft Word as PowerPc applications are no longer supported.
What can I do? Is there a way to dump Mavericks?

In Mountain Lion this morning, when I clicked on the attachment to the e-mail, I got a screen saying would I like to try opening the attachment with: And it gave me a list of choices, including Pages. Pages had no problem opening the attachment. Now after I upgraded to Mavericks I get the messages about PowerPC!  No choices!

  • PowerPc no longer supported?

I have an iBook G4 10.5.8 Mac OS X, 1.33 GHz. Until today my flash player was working just fine, but after trying to watch a video it asked me to upgrade to the newest flash player. I uninstatlled my old flash, installed the new one only to see that PowerPcs are no longer supported. Great. I tried to install an earlier flash player but websites like youtube won't run off the earlier flash players. Am I just screwed in this situation? Or is there another solution I'm not seeing?

I also suspect the same problem. I am using MacG5 system 10.4 and constrained from later system versions by the Power PC chip. The latest Adobe version 1,1,102,55 appears to require the Intel chip. Youtube demand the latest version. Seems I am screwed also. Does  the solution lie with u tube? Nice to get an answer.

  • Does QuickTime 7.7 no longer support QTText descriptors?

Using QuickTime Pro 7.7.4 for Windows, I have been following various instructions found online for adding captions or subtitles to a video using a text file with QTText descriptors. I was having no luck getting most of the descriptors to work (font, style, left justification, drop shadow, etc.).The width and height of the text track were correct, and the time codes worked as they should. I was particularly confused by the font size; increasing it made no difference up to 24-point, and then the text suddenly jumped up to an enormous size.
I was thinking that the file must be formatted incorrectly, but after unintalling QuickTime and downgrading to 7.1.6, everything worked as it should.
Are there new text descriptors, or has support for this functionality been removed? I noticed that the list of descriptors on the Apple website is no longer present, only available in an archived version. I haven't tried this on a Mac; is this just a QuickTime for Windows issue?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!

This is the closest instuction manual you'll find, an old archive.org version.

  • TS1394 After installing maverick, microsoft entourage fails to load due to "PowerPC applications no longer supported."  Now what do I do to get my email back ?

After installing OS X 10.9.1 maverick, my email program, microsoft entourage, fails to load because "PowerPC" no longer supported.  What do I do now ?

I've been holding off upgrading to Mavericks until I feel like I've identified the problems I'm most likely to encounter and have a solution for them.  This concerns me, becasue I thought Office 2008, including Entourage, was good to go.  It's very definitely not a PPC application - I'm running it on Lion (which can't run PPC programs), and Activity Monitor identifies it as Kind=Intel.  Is the issue that Mavericks is misidentifying Entourage 2008 as a PPC application?

I recently purchased QuickTime 7 Pro to convert avi files to mov files for editing on Imovie. However, QuickTime won't play the files. How can I get them to play and how can I convert them to mov files?
Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • New MacPro 10.9.4 included Keynote. Worked fine. An update was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update and now get error message "You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Any ideas?

New MacPro 10.9.4 purchased three weeks ago included Keynote. App worked fine. New update for Keynote was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update. Tried to launch app and now get error message "You can’t open the application “Keynote.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Confused as to why it worked prior to update. Nothing else has changed. No issues with recent iMovie, Pages or Numbers updates. Any ideas?

    I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder.  Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
    An Aperture "Hang" report
    xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
    quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your  precious photos.

  • IMovie HD to quicktime, It will not let me create my full sized movie

I created an iMovie video on iMovie HD and I was trying to convert it to a quicktime with the share option, and when i recreate it as a quicktime it only shows about 1/3 of the actual video then stops on a frame and just plays the music. I am guessing that it is because the video is to big and it can't hold that much memory, but it is only 5 minutes long. What should I do? I have tried doing full quality and expert settings and all that stuff but it just will not work. Help please

I suggest you ask your question in the [iMovie 6 Discussions here|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1115]
People who use the old version are more likely to see it there.

  • Movie could not be sent to QuickTime because a file couldn't be found

    Greetings all,
I have recently been using QT successfully but suddenly I am not able to convert iMovies to .mov with Share. The error message is detailed in the Subject. It seems a file cannot be found. This goes for all old iMovie files and any new files I tested.
Should I maybe reinstall iMovie? Or is it related to QT? I do not have third party plug-ins. Memory is not a problem. I did make a temporary change in the MIME types (unchecked Streaming).
Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the replies Karsten and Kennedy.
IM did not give any details but suggested it might be due to low disk space or third party plugins. What surprises me is that all my IM files were working before. I made three QT web movies in the last days. This makes me suspect IM and suggests maybe reinstalling would help.
Kennedy suggested that the QT was saved as a reference. In fact, no QT file was made because IM could not send it to QT.
Don't know what to do. But it could be worse. I am generally very happy to have a Sony handy cam and the Mac IM capability, even with problems now and then.

  • My iMovie no longer works "PowerPC applications no longer supported"

My iMovie (v. 9.09) no longer works on my MacBook pro with osx 10.7.5, when I try to open the app I get the message "PowerPC applications no longer supported". I tried upgrading, but the mac store says I need osx 10.9 to upgrade. help!

You might try converting the .mp3 files to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz Stereo just to see if it's a file format problem. AIFF requires iMovie to do much less work to play it back or do any adjustments on it. Easiest way to convert would be to download Audacity and just Export to AIFF I think.
