Converting iMovies for TV

I'm preparing about 20-30 movies (and later on maybe even more) in order to show them on a TV-set. I'd like to avoid burning each and everyone on DVD, I'd rather like to make them playable from a Harddisk which is connected to a TV set - therefore I have some questions and it would be great If help was available:
1. There are numerous formats for exporting iMovies: Which one provides best qualitiy in Video (sound is less important) on modern TV-Sets. As far as I've tried out, only .MOV seems to work, but is of poor quality esp. on a bigger screen. Are there other formats a TV would accept?
2. If TV does not accent higher quality movies one could use the TV-Screen as a second monitor of another computer to which the HD will be connected (probably not a Mac). Which format would do in an acceptable quality?
3. As an alternative: when I burn a DVD from an iMovie project - can I copy that project to a HD and will it be playable as if it was on DVD…?
Quite a few different tasks, but would be great if one or another questions could be answered.

From iTunes file menu you can export your library. Once exported to an external drive it can be deleted from your startup internal drive freeing up a lot of space.
iTunes and the Apple TV can "share" a user's library over the same Wi-Fi network. All of your purchased iTunes content can be played back on your TV. All of your music files can play through the better sound system found on your TV setup. Even iPhoto can share your photos and slideshows to your Apple TV.

Convert iMovie for iOS Trailer to a Project

Similar to how its done on the Mac version of iMovie, is it possible to convert a trailer to a project using iMovie for iOS
I want to convert the superhero themed trailer to a project, in order to add additional clips, pictures and increase times.

I would love to do the same. I can find instructions for the previous version but they don't apply to the current version (2.1). I'm using iMovie for both iOS 7 and 8, iPhone and iPad, repectively.

Try hooking everything up and hitting record on the camera, suddenly imovie import works and imovie does not try to play the tape in the camera, simply importing to your hearts content.
I was trying analogue through a Sony DCR-PC1000E. You can't record with the regular rec/pause switch but with the onscreen menu.
My problem was Imovie would only display a blue screen with "camera attached", imovie could see and hear the signal during import but would quit after 7 seconds and 24 frame every time.
I believe this was due to the camera not sending control track or timecode, thus imovie times out, more of a preset then a fault.

Converting a .mkv video to open in iMovie for editing.

I have a video with the .mkv format.
The video details are;
720p.HDTV.x264.mkv
codec H264 MPEG 4
which has a resolution of 1280 x 720
I have little experience with video though would like to edit this in iMovie and think it needs to be converted first.
Have both iMovie HD (used a little) and iMovie v7.1.1 (which I have never used).
1. Which of iMovie's video format would be the best choice or most suitable for this video ?

From doing some reading I believe Kigo Video converter is good but its output format names don't match the terminology used by iMovie.
From the Kigo application. I've posted an image of some of the most likely choices to convert the video.
2. Would the last one, Customised MP4 Movie (*.mp4) be the most suitable format to convert to, for iMovie?
3. Would it matter if I used iMovie HD? I know it is very old but all I want to do with this video is simply cut out content to make a shorter/smaller condensed video. Fairly straight forward edits.
Please say if I have anything wrong with the above ideas and so look forward to any answers.

Try converting it to .mov, if that's possible. .avi was originally a Window format, and iMovie might not like it

h264.mp4 is actually the most common 'standard' (4000 video 'standards' aaaaand counting)
mp4 is indeed universal (Mac, Windows, Linux), and since YouTube, the h264 codec has a good installed base .....
you can bump into probs only when it comes to sheer amount of data:
for instance cheap 'digital frames' are sortof over-whelmed, if you try to playback 720/30p in high quality.
I'm not familiar with 21st cent devices as SmartBoards ... again, it could happen, you have to reduce resolution/fps/bit-rate to avoid clutter&stutter in the video.
I'm using such encoded files successfully on Playstation3, WD HD TV or flatscreenTVs with integrated usb-connection (via stick), etc

It's a clip from CNN (with all credits etc. added). When one refers to it as a clip posted on "YouTube", then people understand the quality will be poor.

How do I save/convert IMovie clips to be able to play in Windows Media Player?

Convert Movie for iPod-sound disappeared

I tried to convert a video for iPod by using "Advanced/Convert Selection to iPod". After it's converted, the sound is gone. Any idea why? Also, the video quality is bad when I view it in iPod, anyway I can adjust it? Thanks!!

QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you play these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.

In what frame rate (fps) iMovie for iOS exports videos?

I shot two similar clips with an iPhone 6. One in 30fps and the other in 60fps just to see how much smoother would the slow motion be in iMovie. The clip shot in 60fps worked great even when slowed down by 1/2. The odd thing was, that when i reset both clips to normal, original speed and whatched the movie in in full screen in iMovie, I noticed that the smoothness of the clip shot in 60fps is gone and both clips look like they were shot in 24fps or 30fps.
So my question is, in what framerate iMovie exports projects? And is there a way to export in 60fps?

Sadly it appears that ALL exports are converted to 30p only incuding Prores !, some like iCloud Sharing are even less 720/30p 5Mbps
True for iMovie for iOS and latest iMovie for Mac that does not have anymore "export to Quicktime" that enabled 60p export

I'm using a iTune 7.5 and I converted my music videos for my friends' iPod. I then synced it to his iPod but when he played it there was no sound what so ever. I checked to see if it was a head phone problem but it wasn't. I double checked my iTunes and played the converted ones, only problem is theres no sound.

Convert iMovie project to divX

I would like to convert iMovie projects to divX format. I have a DVD player which accepts the tiny USB flash/zip/thumb drives but will only play video in divX. I wanted to transfer the converted iMovie project to the little drive for a quick look at the iMovie project on TV before burning to DVD disc using either Toast 8 or iDVD. I do have mpeg streamclip with the component but have searched the forums and support and cannot find anything relevent.

IMovie for Windows based PC

Is there a version of iMovie that works on a Windows based PC and/or some other version of software which offers the same functionality and will create a movie which can then be synced and played on the AppleTV. My understanding is that files created with Windows Movie Maker will not play on the AppleTV - nor have I been successful in making this happen.

There is no iMovie for Windows.
You need to produce video files that are either MP4 or h264 with certain bitrates.

There are many video 'converters' out there if you have say avi, mpg1/2 files etc.
Look at MPEGStreamclip for Windows for conversion or perhaps VLC. There are many other options.
If editing dv camera footage perhaps look at some demos from ulead or latest nero suite.
If your movie files can already be played by iTunes, you should be able to right click on the file and select 'convert for AppleTV' - let iTunes do the task, but it will take some time.

This is my first question and need a bit of help. I only have an iphone with imovie on it.
Is it possible to import a video into imovie to use and edit it on the iphone?
The video I want to import was taken by a camcorder and I assume I will need to convert it into an .MOV file but then how do I get it into imovie???

I used to shoot video in my Powershot S3 IS (MVI_.AVI) and load it into iPhoto, I used quicktime pro so I could convert it for emailing to family members. That was when I was running Leopard now with Mt. Lion nothing works. Videos do not open at all?

I am surprised that Apple did not build a converter into Mt. Lion.
Apple does have a converter built into Mountain Lion. It is call "Quicktime." However, in order to use this converter, you must first make sure the compression formats are playback compatible with QT. Basically, there are three levels of QT compatibility. The lowest is "Playback." These file can be played by QT but may not be conversion or edit compatible with QT. The second level is QT "Conversion" compatible. These files are playback compatible and can be converted to other compression formats using QT. "Edit" compatible media files are "Fully" compatible with QT since the can be played, converted and/or edited by QT. The main problem here is that AVI is a "legacy" file format that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than 11 years when it was replaced by Windows Media multimedia file/compression formats. Many of the original compression formats used in AVI files have never been transcoded for the Mac platform, use beyond system 9, or use beyond PPC platforms. In addition, some commonly used AVI codecs are proprietary or use non-standard (hybrid) profile and level combinations. In short, there is little wonder that Apple has been distancing itself from this outdated file type as it re-writes and upgrades its own QT structure to support more standardized, more scalable, more modern high definition file types and compression formats. It is really unfortunate that users continue to use this outmoded file type simply because it is freely available, easy to use, or they are simply too lazy to move on to a more modern or more efficient file types and/or compression formats.
I tested Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for the Mac, which seems to be the "state of the art". I may be purchasing a new camera which might create a whole new set of variables. This program seems to cover all bases and is great for novices.
There are many third-party apps available if you wish to search for them. Many are even available in the App Store. Most do their job well and it is usually a matter of personal user preference as to which is best.
HandBrake seems more suited to folks with more experience and knowledge.
I mentioned Handbrake primarily because it is free and easy to use when you employ the included conversion presets options. (The TV options can normally be used for almost any situation depending on the source file and output requirements.) It is also excellent for more experienced users, but has a somewhat limited choice of output options as it does not access the user's system QT codec component configuration.
