Converting into a lower bitrate improves video playback?

Hello, I heard if you convert videos into a lower bitrate you get more hours of video playback. If thats true, what settings should i set my videora to? Instead of the default one

Hello, I heard if you convert videos into a lower
bitrate you get more hours of video playback.
The subject of the post and content of your post are asking two different questions.
As for the subject... does lowering the bitrate improve video playback?
It depends what you mean by improve. Lowering the bitrate might make the video run faster/smoother/less choppy but it will also lower the quality of the picture.
As for the message in your post... does loweing the bitrate give you more hours of video playback?
Probably, yes. The size of the video file will be smaller, so you can fit more content on the iPod. Smaller file sizes mean less work for the iPod hard drive, wich results in better battery life.

  • Help - iTunes Converting mp3s automatically into VBR - Low Bitrate?

Hi Forum Members: New kid on the block. I've been very lucky not to have too many problems with iTunes.
I just placed several mp3s into iTunes via the folders/file selection. For some unknown reason it converted all those mp3s into VBR mp3s with a lower bitrate.
There is nothing unusual about these mp3s. Their bitrate is mixed at around 196 kbps to 256 kpbs.
I didn't use Import or ask iTunes to convert?
Any clues as to what is going on? Or how to fix the problem.
    Thanks, katydidit

    Hello CasperGemini:
In answer to your first question, no it didn't ask me?
My Preferences > Advanced Tab > mp3 encoder, good quality, 128 kbps
With iTunes changing the format to 114 kbps(VBR) at 44.100 KHz is quite close to the 128 kbps, however, it's rather odd that it would do it without asking (as you mentioned).
My idea was to keep the files at their existing kbps per second and then convert within iTunes using the "right-click" option.
I've also had problems with iTunes converting on import. If I take files/folder from my computer (not CD - already on system) and bring them into iTunes via the Import method (I've specified the importing size, etc.) it doesn't convert them to the specified encoding, e.g. m4a to mp3?? I end having to convert within iTunes (right-click).

  • Convert playlist to lower bitrate without creating hundreds of duplicates?

    So here's the issue:
I have an 8GB iPhone and nearly 14GB of music to put on it. 14GB is a lot, but most of the tracks are Apple Lossless, so there's only about 770 songs in the playlist. I know on the Shuffle, there's an option to compress a playlist to play on it, what about for the iPhone? I could easily just hit 256kbps AAC and select all the files in the playlist and convert them that way, but then I'd wind up with 770 lower quality duplicates in my Library. And a difficult way of identifying which is which to recreate the playlist. Does anyone have any solutions?
I've thought of a way. A smart playlist with the 770 most recently added songs, set convert, copy that playlist to a new one and sync that with my phone. That would work to get the music on my phone, but then what about the Library and the duplicates there?

If you are auto-syncing your phone with iTunes you have to keep the compressed tracks in the library. The only way to remove the duplicates from the library entirely is to manage your phone manually so that if you remove the compressed tracks they stay on the phone. You could also create a separate library for the phone to sync to and add the compressed tracks to it: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
If you choose to remove the compressed tracks have a look at Doug's AppleScripts there are a couple of scripts there to help manage duplicates. Search the page for "Corral iTunes Dupes" and "Corral All dupes": Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes
Doug also has a shareware application called Dupin specifically for managing duplicates, you can get it here: Dupin
You could also delete the playlist that holds the duplicate files and the tracks along with it. Highlight the playlist, hold down the Option key and press the delete key.

  • Video playback is choppy and lags

when i play videos off youtube, many times it is choppy and very laggy.  could there be a setting to improve video playback, or is it likely my wifi /internet is too slow?  although no problem on mac book, or imac??

Have you tried when conected to another network? Your performance is typical of a network problem.

  • Slow video playback in Photoshop Elements 11

Playback of videos directly in Photoshop Elements Organizer is very slow. Video is stuttering.
Playing the same video outside of PSE11 with Windows Media Player is much better. Video plays without any stuttering.
Looks like the internal video player of PSE11 is very poor and provides slow performance.
What can I do do have the same video performance with the PSE11 player as I have with WMP.
I use Windows 7 64 Bit (8 GB RAM) with a Intel Core i3 (2330). This CPU has enough power to playback HD or Full-HD videos without any stuttering!!!
Why can't the internal play of PSE11 Organizer play my videos without stuttering - like WMP 12.0.7601.18150 does?
    Regards,
    Dodson65

The videos I use are created with different devices.
I have HD videos taken with a Pentax DSLR and I have Full-HD videos taken with a Windows Phone 8 device.
Both playback on my Laptop without any stottering with different software. I checked WMP and VLC. Even when using my Laptop with energy-saving profile these videos can be played without stottering.
When I playback the videos in PSE11 Organizer I don't want to edit them - just playback. So why should the internal player behave different? I agree with you - this might be different when I playback the videos in Premiere Elements 11 (as this is a video editing software). But when using Photoshop Elements 11 I want to be able to playback videos in the same performance as I can do with WMP or VLC. If Photoshop Elements 11 can't do that - why? The organizer of PSE11 is not an editor. It should be able to playback videos the same way (with the same performance) as other players on my laptop.
Can you please explain this sentence: "Have you started a Premiere Elements project yet that uses this video's specs? This will often trigger Premiere Elements to download the necessary components for interpretting the video." Is there anything I can do to improve video playback performance?

  • Slow video playback in very high resolution X11

Hi everyone. I write this msg for ask your eternal knowledgement.
I have a very huge system (i7 3820 LGA2011, 8Gb quad channel, Gigabyte x79-up5-wifi, AMD HD5870 2Gb Eyefinity 6, etc) running Arch on it. The OS is updated. The Arch config is very minimal, using Fluxbox as WM and VLC and Mplayer to playback videos. The video driver is the latest stable Catalyst (13.4) and so on. I got connected six HD screens seted to a resolution of 1366x768. These screens are managed with xrandr, adjusted for considering the bezel compensation, using xrand --output MONITOR --pos X+BEZELxY+BEZEL.
When i play a video with mplayer (using the gl video driver) the movie shows very well and smooth, but when i pan the video all over de virtual screen (4194x1583 aprox), the movie shows very choppy.
The strange fact is the Conky reports shows me an 5% of CPU usage, so the system performance are not the problem.
The mplayer flags that i use to play this video are plenty, being the threads=4, gl:ati-hack and -root the most important.
If anyone can give me a hint to solve this issue, i would be very grateful.
    thx in advance.

In Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder''', would open the current profile folder. You can copy the individual files or the whole folder to another safe location. This would ensure that personal data files like the bookmarks, website passwords etc. are safely backed up. Please also see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s this].
After creating a new profile and starting Firefox in that new profile, you can '''Open Containing Folder''', exit Firefox and copy and overwrite the history + bookmarks file ('''places.sqlite'''), passwords ('''key3.db''' + '''signons.sqlite''') etc. from the backup to this folder.
You can also try to check the current internet connection speed and ensure that OS network settings are okay: http://pingtest.net/

  • Fitting more songs on 30gb; How do you convert to lower bitrate afterwards?

    Hi all,
Already imported about 600 CDs and I'm looking to put a good amount of them on a 30gb ipod. I imported them using AAC 192kbit variable bitrate. I would like to conserve some space and put them on the ipod at 128kbit, but NOT convert them in my actual itunes library. I wish to retain the 192kbit quality.
    Is this possible?
FWIW: I selected a bunch of songs and went to the advanced menu and "Convert to [format]" is grayed out. The songs are already in AAC, but I thought that option would let me convert it to another bitrate AAC also. Apparently not because it's as said, grayed out.
So how can I convert the songs to a lower quality bitrate ONLY for the ipod?
    Thanks!

    Chris~
Per your second reply on changing the default setting from AAC 192 to something else so the option is enabled, unfortunately I don't think that will work. I had already 'played' with settings during importing. For the first 20-30 CDs I played around and used Apple Lossless, AAC 256kbit and AAC 320kbit. These files show the correct bitrate in itunes (I enabled viewing the bitrate column). However I get no option to convert these either (they report around 1000kbit).
I will change the AAC setting to MP3 or something else and see how I make out. And yes I agree that converting them from the CDs would be the best solution. I've been working with audio/video via Avid/Premiere/etc for 8 years and am well aquainted with lossy/lossless codecs. It's why I initially started recording them Lossless, to then convert them later, but could not (per my post) so I started recording 192kbit instead.
I hope the option works when I change the import setting.. Thanks for the tip!
Marty J~ Per above, yes I do have the experience in the audio industry to be able to hear the difference. My theater is well equipped in both my home and my car and the audio quality is vastly noticable. Heck even on my little audio technica throw away headphones I can easily discern the difference. While 320kbit is better and Lossless is best, 192kbit is acceptible for this, being I have all the original CDs anyhow.. Books.. and books.. and books of CDs..
    Thanks!

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

  • Convert to lower bitrate hangs on some songs

I recently had to restore an iPod classic. While syncing, I told it to convert all songs to lower bitrate (128 kbps). I've performed  this operation before without mishap, but this time, some songs appear to take MUCH longer to convert (on the order of day for an individual song). At the moment, it has restarted a sync, and it's working on song 5 of 18000. Songs 1-4 went at a normal rate, but song 5 has been working for 2 hours, with my processor (2 core i5 w/ HT) working at 300% on the iTunes process.
If I remove the song in question (something titled "Intro"), iTunes proceeds along, and hangs on another song in a similar manner. If I uncheck the requirement to convert to lower bitrate, the sync proceeds normally and all of the songs make it onto the iPod.
Is this a problem with iTunes 11? Or should I be looking at an issue with my individual files? My library is composed of a variety of formats, from 128kbps iTMS files to ALAC CD-rips. If I can avoid it, I'd like to avoid converting the whole library down to 128 or 256kbps AAC and then dealing with duplicates. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

I am experiencing a similar issue with a 5th generation ipod nano.

  • Video playback stops at first bitrate switch

When playing my manifest file for HTTP dynamic streaming, it will play the first bitrate (150), however, at exactly 6 seconds, it tries to switch to a higher bitrate (1500) and the video stops playing, but the audio continues.
I have tried multiple manifest files, but it happens the same with each one.
Any idea what could cause this?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Since we dont' get access to the server, we are unable to debug from our side. One thing you may want to find out is where the video playback stops at code level. Does it stop at play2 method or somewhere else. NetStreamPlayTrait has two methods, doPlay and doPlay2. You may set up break points at each function to find out whether the NetStreamPlayTrait has been instructed by the switch manager to **** bitrate. If it does, relevant function in the same class you may want to set break points are onNetStatus and onPlayStatus to look for error events. Please let me know of your discovery. Thanks!

  • How do I convert a shockwave object file into a mp4 or avi video?

How do I convert a shockwave object file into a mp4 or avi video?  Do you know of any software that converts that type of file?

The M4V format is a video file format developed by Apple and is very close to the MP4 format. The differences are the optional Apple's DRM copyright protection, and the treatment of AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio which is not standardized for the MP4 container.
If your M4V video is not unprotected M4V files and without AC3 audio. It may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ".m4v" to "mp4".
So you can try to change the file extension and check if it works. If it doesn't work, try Leawo video converter(for windows or mac) and convert m4v to mp4 format.

  • OK , I have my instructional coaches creating power point presentation add audio to each slide with the presenter 10 add ins. I need these presentation converted into MP4 like you can do with adobe presenter video creator.

Love the Adobe products first. OK , I have my instructional coaches creating power point presentation add audio to each slide with the presenter 10 add ins. I need these presentation converted into MP4 like you can do with adobe presenter video creator.

If you import the PPT deck into Captivate it will not bring the audio from Presenter. But you can import it into Captivate after the slide deck has been imported. The audio files aren't necessarily named in a logical fashion in the source files for the presentation, so I would recommend that you publish the presentation locally and then find the 'data' folder in the published output and the audio files will be named in a way that you can infer the slide they are associated with. Not the simplest proceedure but it should be pretty painless.
