Converting invoices to excel

My goal here is to get my paperwork organized digitally. Invoices from multiple vendors and converting them into spreadsheets to have all my information for one sale easily assessable down the road if I need to look back.
First I purchased one of those systems that analyses your receipts and builds a spreadsheet automatically. I would be better off typing everything out than going through and correcting every invoice with that system.
I write my own invoices in excel, I think I could make a better looking and email able with PDF's and I saw the "easy conversion to excel" so I purchased  acrobat XI pro
Now keep in mind I have hundreds of invoices to convert, so whatever I do would have to be streamlined.
My problem is;
when I convert to excel, everything is moved around and cut off. (when converted from an online typed invoice)
when I use OCR on a printed invoice, I get some alien looking characters.
when I use the automatic form finder it only grabs tow cells of information out of fifty.
I'm just having a very hard time finding information on more advanced use of Acrobat.
I would assume to make this happen I would have to build a template and assign areas of information and attach variables to them so they convert on point every time.
I know I would probably have to figure out how to remove images, buttons, hidden text, web address at the bottom, and ect. to get better results from the automatic form finder.
My main question is, am I asking too much?

I don't believe simple or complicated will work. It's fine if you have to deal with a large number of IDENTICALLY made invoices (from the same company). But anything else, the prospect of automation is terrifying. A human can look at at an invoice and work out the company name, what is an invoice number and what is a fax number, which column is tax and which is shipping, which figure is the total, which the account balance, ... I have been writing software for many years and I would frankly not trust the claims of any software that claimed to do this even half reliably.
If this was, say, adding potential contacts to a database it might be tolerable to have some errors. But for financial data it is frankly madness. It opens you to very large financial errors, and auditing and regulatory failures, fines from the tax authorities, and bankruptcy. Pay a diligent human to do it, or do it yourself, just as it requires a human to answer a customer phone call usefully.
One exception: if all your invoices are to be matched against existing validated financial data in your accounts payable system, I can imagine a system of fuzzy logic could work. This wouldn't try the impossible task of comprehending the invoice. Rather, it could search for matches on sufficient data that is already known (e.g. company name, amount, order number). Using this process, a certain number of invoices could be automatically validated and trigger payment logic (not to an address or details on the invoice, but to prestored details); unmatched invoices could then be left for a human. Caution: sometimes companies change their payment details and the only way to know is careful handling of the invoice. Though this is also used as a scam...

How can I convert an entire excel workbook to pdf?  I have the box in the preferences for converting excel files marked to convert the entire workbook.  I am using Abobe Acrobat 11 Statndard.  This previously worked fine when I was using Adboe Acrobat 10 Statndard.  Now in order to convert the entire workbook I have to open the excel file, Highlight all the workbook tabs and then save the file.  Any ideas?

In Acrobat click Edit | Preferences | Convert to PDF: select Microsoft Office Excel, then click on Edit Settings.  Make sure that 'Convert entire Excel workbook' is checked.

    Hi,
the only other ways (as I know), if you really want to convert is
    a) write a parser to convert html into csv(xls)
    b) use a html2csv script on the os level
    like:
    http://sebsauvage.net/python/html2csv.py (or just google html2csv)
    c) use excel (data source web; local file: "file:///C:/test.htm"

Error message when I try to convert pdf to excel, after three attempts I could only convert one file.

    Hi pdf to excel,
What is the error that you're receiving when you try to convert? Is it the "Conversion Failure" message? Can you tell me more about the files you're unable to convert? What application created the PDFs? Are there many pages in these these files, or a complex mix of text and graphics?
It'll also be helpful to know whether you're converting via the ExportPDF website (and what browser you're using), or through Adobe Reader.
I look forward to hearing back from you, so we can get to the bottom of this!
    Best,

I need to convert PDF to Excel, however, columns and tabs make many merged cells and many blank columns. In addition to not separate the columns correctly, I see many not separate lines together in the same cell. I'm even thinking that Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has limitations. There is no way to define what points in columns to force break column? Nor create many columns that are useless? How does text to column in Excel, fixed size when we import text, and define where the breaks have columns?

PDF does not contain columns, rows, formats, styles, or other aspects of word processing or spreadsheet file formats.
This is because PDF is decidedly not a word processing or spreadsheet file format or something "like" one of those.
(see ISO 32000 for what PDF "is")
What can optimize the export of PDF page content is to start with a well-formed tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
Without that export is what it is and one performs whatever content cleanup is needed using the native application for the export file (MS Word or Excel).
    Be well...

I've uploaded 4 pdf docs. Now how do I convert them to Excel format so I can manipulate the data?
    linda93790

    Hi linda93790,
If you uploaded your files to http://cloud.acrobat.com, simply click on one of the PDF files, then click 'ExportPDF' from along the top-bar in your browser.  This will automatically load that PDF into the ExportPDF system.  From there, you can configure any options you may need and convert the file to an .xlsx file.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
    Thanks,
    David

  • Help with converting pdf to excel

I have a pdf of an excel file which I need to convert back to excel.  The problem is that when I convert it only half the pages convert correctly to excel but the first three pages are unreadable.  Any suggestions as I am stuck on why it only converts half the pages correctly.

You must be using the subscription service with Adobe Reader (ExportPDF)?
If so, you would need the password for the pdf. The bank may have (automatically) added a password preventing any changes. That would need to be removed first.

  • Adobe  Standard  X1  to  convert    PDF  to  Excel

I  was  advised  by  an  adobe  staff  member  to  purchase   Adobe   Standard  X1  to  convert  PDF  to  Excel.   However  the info  is  placed  randomly  on  the  page.

Subscriber for what? Acrobat? If so, just download it and install. Then start it and log in to activate your subscription version. You may have to wait for a few days for the subscription to be activated if you just purchased it today.

  • Ios7 will not convert numbers to excel. Is there a solution?

Has apple addressed the issue with Ios7 not converting numbers to excel?

Do you mean Numbers?  Numbers on OS X can export something in Excel format.
iOS 7 can read in Excel documents and open them for editing in Numbers for iOS if you wish.
But iOS 7 itself doesn't really have anything to do with converting documents _to_ Excel format, if that's what you're asking.

  • Any solution for preventing converted data (to excel) from crashing?

Any solution for preventing converted data (to excel) from crashing - file crashes on a consistent basis.

    Hi Shrinivas,
LabVIEW is getting bug fixes and new features with each version step.
But new features also can bring new bugs - and not all bugs from older versions are fixed by now…
The MixedSignalGraph is a beast of it's own and known to have bugs inside. The one you noticed now is probably one of those.
So it's not your fault your VI terminates rather "unhappy", but most probably NI's fault. You can have a workaround as described in the last post.
If I have to take same data from wire as you mentioned, I need to save the data in some variable
No, you don't need any "variable"! THINK DATAFLOW: the wire is the variable!
I have to write the data to excel file using report generation tool kit or some other way. … Please let me know if I can do it in some other easy methods.
It all depends on the datatype of your data. There are functions to save to spreadsheet files. You can save in binary files. You can create TDMS files , which can be read by Excel too. All those functions are really easy to use - you just have to look at the example VIs coming with LabVIEW!

  • Can't convert PDF to excel (annual subscription purchased)

Could someone solve my problem.  I purchased onlline PDF export to Excel or Word version.  When I went convert on righ side of screen, I typed my ID and Password.  Non the less, I got an error and could not convert PDF to Excel.  I appreciate it very much if someone could tell me what to do.  By the way, I also downloaded Flash Player.
    Thanks.
    Suzuko

    Good day Suzuko,
It sounds like you're trying to initiate the conversion via Adobe Reader (which is just fine.)  Could you share the error you're getting?  Alternatively, could you share a bit more information about the problem by filling out File Conversion Issue Form?  If you fill out the form, please include a reference to this thread so we can circle back and share our findings with everyone.
    Kind regards,

  • Converting OTF to EXCEL  or PDF to ECXEL  and sending Excel through mail

    Hi ,
I need a solution for Converting OTF into EXCEL  or PDF into ECXEL  and sending Excel as a attachment to the mail.
In my current Program I am getting OTF data from script and converting into PDF using Function module ' CONVERT_OTF'
And sending PDF as a mail attachment using Function module 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1' it is working fine but
My current requirement is I need to send Excel as a mail attachment instead of PDF.
Hope it is clear for you, please give me solutions with sample code..

    Hi!
Because OTF is not a grid, like Excel, and PDF can also contain anything, I think it is not possible to convert an OTF, or PDF into an excel spreadsheet.
You can convert an ALV into excel and send it via email.
    Regards
    Tamá
