Converting iPhone to iPod Touch

I have an iPhone that I recently disconnected from ATT service for reasons of dissatisfaction with same. Is there a mechanism in place for converting the iPhone to an iPod Touch so I can use the WiFi network features without requiring an ATT service contract to be in place?

You don't nned to do anything special...just use it as a touch. I'd suggest leaving the de-activated sim in the phone, you'll need a sim in the phone should the need arise to restore it.

First of all..you need to make sure your videos are all in formats your iPod/iPhone can play.... eg .mp4. If they are not in that format... you will need to convert them using a video converter like http://videoconverter.hamstersoft.com. It has a very easy to use interface. Once all your videos are in the proper format, go to iTunes and them using File -> Add File / File -> Add Folder.
Then connect your iPhone/iPod go to the Movies tab on your Phone's page and select Sync All Movies.
Now, select apply to the bottom right and corner of iTunes and your phone should synchronize videos..

I just created an ibook using iauthor. I've published it to the ibooks store, but it is only available for download on iPads. No one can download it on their iPhones or iPod touches. How do I convert it and publish it to a format that will work?

Yes and no - depends on the file format of the 'book'.
The iBooks app can be download on iPhone, iPod touch, ipad and ipad mini - true.
File support with this app differs though, depending on device:
iPhone and iPod touch - ePub, PDF
Ipad and ipad mini - ePub, PDF, ibooks
If you really want people to read your book on an iPhone or iPod touch, then the ibooks format is not for you. Use Pages for example to create ePub, or export a PDF from iBA - that way you can still get the formatting/desktop publishing layout etc.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, including separate backups. I'd suggest giving each device a unique name, to make things easier.

Our household has two IPhones, two IPod Touches, 1 IPad and 1 computer. we want to have it all under the same Apple ID for the purpose of Home Sharing, but my two kids iPODs cannot use their facetime or messaging becuase it shows they are on my iphone.

I upgraded both my ihpone and ipod to iOS5 and now both devices are telling me that my apple ID is already being used when I try to sign in
any ideas? I have always used the same ID so I can have purchased apps on both devices

Perhaps the reason you haven't had any replies is because there is no such thing as an 8GB iPod Classic.
I suggest that you begin by correctly identifying which iPod you have.

When connecting my iPhone or iPod touch to my laptop to update software, the software downloads to my laptop but when it goes to install I get an error message that says network timed out. Any advice here please?

For the past 2-3 months everytime I connect my iPhone or iPod touch to my laptop to update the software through itunes I have issues. When the progress bar gets to 100 % downloading and switches to start to install I get an error message that says something like connection issue/timed out/network something. If you're talking about stopping music purchased from the iTunes store automatically downloading to your iPad, go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and under Automatic Downloads and turn Music to Off. If your talking about syncing with iTunes, just uncheck Sync Music on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings before syncing your iPad.
