Converting ipod previously installed on mac to windows without losing songs

I have inherited an ipod that my brother in law has downloaded 3,500 songs on. It is configured to run on a Mac but I want to install it to run on my Windows PC. It appears i will have to restore the ipod and lose all the songs. Can anybody tell me otherwise???

Thank you...i think i have come to terms with that! is there a way of saving the songs then reloading themonce it has been formatted? Is this legal?

I tried xpod but that did not work. I also entered my ipods hard drive via a friends Mac and copied the files onto his Mac but although the file is clearly the right one in terms of file size when i click into it it does not display the music contained within it???? Sounds like you first need to get the stuff OFF your iPod and onto a hard drive on your friends Mac first...

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested. If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library. Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.

I would like to move a site from one Mac to another without losing the websites that I have already built on the other Mac. Transfering the Domain file is not helping. Is there away to open the new domain file and adding those sites to the domain file associated with this copy of iWeb? I have searched the discussions but am not seeing any clear answers. They all seam to invilve new users or losing the sites already on that mac.

I seem to have solved my own problem. This may help other users. I found a tip and a web page that suggested moving the Domain File from the application support folder to another on the desktop on one of the computers and then putting the 2nd Domain File from the other computer in a separate folder on the desktop. This is because you can not change the name of the Domain File . Then by double clicking the Domain File with the site wanted, iWeb opens with that set of sites.
I started with what was to be the new master Domain File and stated a new site with a blank page. saved, did not publish and closed iWeb. Opened from the other Domain File and then clicked and opened the site and page I wanted, then selected all, copied all and closed iweb. Went back to the master Domain File , opened iWeb using that, went to the blank page and pasted in the page from the other Domain File from the other computer. Saved, closed iWeb and repeated till I had all pages. Changed the names to match the sites and Pages. I did not allow iWeb to publish during this process. Took all of 10 minutes and I now have a Domain File with all the sites in one place. I then copied this file back into its original location in Library/application support/iWeb on both computers. I now have all sites in iWeb on both computers.

IPod works well with Mac but Windows can't Open it when connected

My iPod details: Capacity - 74.37GB, Software Version - 1.3, Format - Windows (MS-DOS FAT 32 format)
MAC details given below.
PC details - Windows XP, Service Pack 3.
My iPod was formatted to work with Windows and Mac as I only had a PC when I bought it. It's been working quite well since I bought it and later with the Mac too. However, since the past few weeks, when plugged in to a PC via USB, the iPod is recognised as a folder and fails to OPEN or be EXPLOREed. The only thing allowed is a SEARCH option which helps me transfer files between PC and MAC.

There may or may not be a physical fault with the WD drive, but Macs can read but not write to NTFS disks unless you use a third party driver like Paragon NTFS for Mac, or NTFSMounter.
Your post seems to imply that before the current problems it used to be OK (ie you could read and write to it). Have you got NTFS for Mac or similar?
Did you have a reson for formatting NTFS? Mac drives are formatted HFS+. If you want Windows to read Mac disks you can install MacDrive in Windows, and Paragon HFS for Windows.

IPod classic formated for MAc and Windows

I have a problem with my iPod classic. I use both Windows and Mac platforms and have iTunes library on both. Or course i would like to use my iPod with both as well. But each time i connect my iPod classic th any of the computers it asks me to restore the settings i.e. format it to either Mac or Windows. Does anyone now how to go around that problem, how to set it to work with both platforms?

I have a similar problem.. I have a normal iPod, and I originally used it on my PC. I recently got an iMac and now iTunes says that "..Windows formatted iPod's cannot be updated on Macintosh computers.." or something very similar to that..
Any tips/ideas?? Would be greatly appreciated.
BTW.. I still have the PC, but would just prefer to control my iPod from the Mac.

Ipod useage switching from Mac to Windows

I had an Imac and now I use Windows on my new laptop. How do I change the settings on my Ipod so it can work on Windows? I have tried restoring it several times and this does not work.

What you suggest is not possible.
As you have formatted your hard disk for Windows it will not recognize the Mac install disk.
