Converting iTunes 7 library to iTunes 6

Evening All
Apologies if there is already a thread on this somewhere, I have searched and searched but can't find it.
I've installed iTunes 7 and it's slowed my Mac down so much that I want to revert to iTunes 6. I know how to do this, but wonder if anyone knows of a way that can get v6 to recognise my v7 library. The only previous iTunes 6 library I still have is from months ago, and I would like to keep any changes I have made since 'upgrading' to iTunes 7.
Any help would be much appreciated.

No, not exactly. The XML file should ALREADY exist in your iTunes folder.
So if you moved or have all your library folder on a computer with iTunes6, I think you could then import the XML file to recreate your library listing in iTunes with playlists, ratings, etc.

Converted itunes to MP3

I was able to convert Itunes store purchased music to an MP3 format. Thus the music plays on Windows Media Player. However, the converted music is not accesible in folders accessed through My Computer then Music. Thus I am unable to transfer music to an external MP3 player. It appears that XP does not recognize the new format. Any help?

If the MP3 versions of the songs have iTunes library entries, then right click the entries and use "Show in Explorer." If they have WMP entries, enable the column "File Name" in the WMP Media Library view.

Okay, I had an Ipod mini and I went through three of them in the warranty time. I was sorely dissappointed with it, but I got a Creative Labs ZEN microphoto for Christmas and I love it. I would still like to keep downloading from Itunes because it's the easiest and most legal downloading site that I have found. Are you saying that iTunes downloads are only compatible with iPod's? That in order to play an iTunes download on anything but an iPod involves either illegal conversion or first burning it to a CD? I, too, just received a Zen Vision M and nowhere in the download, signup or anything else process did I see any mention of the fact that iTunes is not compatible with other software/hardward. Yes, the CD conversion trick works but for the aggrevation and lost time it's cheaper to drive to the store and buy the real thing.

I looked on Apple's website for information on how to convert itunes into a mp3 format on your windows pc. I followed each step. I clicked on Edit and Preferences and set it to Mp3 converter. I then selected the songs I wanted to convert into. Then I clicked Advanced. When I clicked Advanced, it showed "Create Mp3 Version" but it was grayed out. And i was unable to click it. It doesn't work if you simply open it in a browser tab. When you download it and open in an Adobe window you will be able to click on it and type your information in the spaces provided.

If your purchases are the new DRM free files from EMI, simply change your import preferences to mp3, then right click on the song you wish to convert, then click on "convert to".

Help please, how do i convert itunes files to mp3 format. i purchased a hp notebook and it has itunes and windows xp home. i have always used windows media player and am new to itunes. do i have to go back to media player or can itunes do the conversion?

The only conversion I've done is wma to mp3. To do this just simply import them they way you would any other song file. It will tell you that there are song files your trying to import that iTunes isn't compatable with and ask if you want to convert them to mp3 format. Just click yes and iTunes will make an mp3 of the respective songs. The wma's will still be there so if you want to get rid of them you'll have to delete them manually. The only downside is the conversion makes the file larger so it'll take up more space on your hard drive, but you'll be able to listen to it on your iPod.
As for iTunes purchased music StarDeb is right. Go out and buy the album then rip it onto your hard drive. At least then if your drive crashes you'll always have a backup.

iTunes 1.0.2 is +at least+ eight years old.
The current version is 9.2, and it's free.
If that was a typo, and you're using something more current:
In the iTunes preferences, change the import settings to mp3.
Then select the songs you wish to convert.
From the "Advanced" menu, choose "Create mp3 version".
When done, change the import settings back to Apple Lossless.
That's it.
BTW, this is the Logic Pro forum, which has absolutely nothing to do with iTunes.

iTunes just ***** at converting videos. So far all videos I tried converting with iTunes have resulted in the same error you got.
You're better-off using 3rd party apps, and then copying to iTunes, and then copying to the iPod.
Unfortunately I don't know of any conversion programs for Windows.

So I'm being exact. You cannot "convert" a video file (with audio), to audio only.
You can extract the audio, or record the audio into an audio programme etc. as a way of obtaining the audio only. But convert... no.
I answered the question. I also asked the OP to give further information, so that we could possibly provide a suitable solution. After all, as lllaass has suggested, perhaps the OP wants to make a ringtone.

I wanted to first thank you for this, as this is the only workaround literature that seems to be floating around out there. With that said, I know it is a big ask, but is there any way that you could create a video showing step by step how to do what you do? I have several tracks that are stuck in waiting mode, and if left in itunes, will never upload or match...they only cause the upload process to hang up and restart. I've tried leaving it for days...I've tried converting the files, signing in and out of itunes (and itunes match), updating itunes match, and I tried your technique...unfortunately to no avail. Perhaps I didn't do your technique correctly. I used audacity to reverse the audio.
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

First, FLAC is not supported by iTunes and the same probably applies to the iPod.
Second, are all your files currently in AIFF or WAV format, or on CDs? If you have mp3 files or AAC files the only thing that will happen by you converting them to lossless is you will use up more space for the music with no gain in quality. Quality is lost when you convert to mp3 or AAC and converting it to lossless won't get it back.
It looks like current ipods support Apple Lossless. Still, the whole idea behind ipods is to use compressed format so you can fit on the most music. Read http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=85227
If after doing all that you still want Apple Lossless, you need to set the preferences to ALAC in your iTunes preferences, then convert with the Advanced menu command. Mind you, I use an older iTunes so you may have to explore a bit to find where they have those features now. This conversion will place a copy of the file in iTunes in the new format but also leave the old one there, so you'll need to delete the old ones if you don't want them.
