Converting iTunes HD movies to AVCHD DVD.

I would like to convert an iTunes movie I downloaded to AVCHD DVD so I can watch it on my blu-ray player. Has anyone done this yet? If so, how?

  • Converting 2 large .movs for quality DVD play

I need specific advice for converting a 3.6 GB (created from Final Cut Pro) .mov
and a 1.2 GB .mov (created from AVID) to a somewhat smaller file that contains good quality and can be viewed from most consumer computers.
Because the .mov files are so high quality (footage captured from HD cameras) playing the files alone on quicktime slows down even on a fast computer. when i drag it to IDVD or dvd studio pro, it downgrades the quality, i do not understand how to change the preset.
how should i go about converting these monster files? should i use compression?
please e-mail me at [email protected] i can pay pal you 10 bucks if you're willing to give me specific instructions 1 on 1. THANK YOU SO FRIGGIN MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since DVD video is a standard definition format, you should naturally expect some degradation in quality when starting with a high definition source. That's the nature of the beast.
In DVD-SP, you could make an HD DVD, but that format is essentially dead since Toshiba lost the format war with Sony's Blu-ray. Only later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) Toshiba HD DVD player will play HD DVD formatted discs.
Your other option for optical disc delivery is to burn a Blu-ray disc. You can do that in a limited fashion using FCP or Compressor ... or use Toast 10 Pro or Adobe Encore to author and burn the BD. Of course, you will also need a compatible Blu-ray burner.

  • Movies purchased on iTunes cannot be played on dvd

I purchased a few movies on iTunes recently, then backed them up to dvd for two reasons, one was for backup and the other was so I could watch the movie on my television using my DVD player. The backup seems to work, because I can play the movie on my computer from the disc (dvd). However, when I put the dvd in the dvd player and press play, I get an error message that the disc cannot be played. Does anyone have any information on what steps need to be taken to play iTunes purchased movies on a DVD player?

    runtheplanet,
iTunes movies are in Quicktime format (H.264), and not playable on DVD payers. DVD content is MPEG 2, and it is multiplexed, where the video and audio are combined in a single data stream that can be read by the DVD player.
In order to play Quicktime content on a DVD, that content must first be transcoded to the MPEG 2 format and multiplexed. The single stream is then burned to the DVD.
Purchased iTunes content, however, is protected against transcoding. In other words, you cannot burn iTunes movies to a standard video DVD. Your only options for watching purchased iTunes movies on your TV are to 1) connect your computer to the TV, then play the content on your computer, or 2) Use an AppleTV.

if you want to decode DRM, you simply need to have the "closed keys" to decode them, and the legal right to do it.
For the legal right, it's just a matter of signing a contract with the DRM maker (for example the iPod division has those keys made by the iTunes division).
For the getting the closed keys, it is always possible, but can lead to difficulties in your personal life. look for DeCSS on Wikipedia to understand.

  • Convert iTunes movies to DVD

I have purchased several movies from iTunes. Since most of the times these movies are played on my APPLETV. However from time to time the children want to watch the movies in their room. I can not find any menu option that will allow me to burn purchased movies to a DVD.
Please explain how to do this?

What about the claims of of some of these software companies being able to remove the DRM?
If I recall, most of the U.S. based companies have been slapped down by the courts.
I purchased the movie, I should be able to burn it to a DVD and watch it on any TV I choose.
No, you didn't. You bought a license for certain types of use of the content. You did not buy a license to burn the movie to DVD. If you had purchased a DVD of the movie, the reverse would be true. You would not have purchased the right to rip the movie to digital format. Some DVDs, which generally cost more, come with an additional license to download the digital content.
I buy music downloads from ITunes, and can burn them, why not movies??
Two entirely different industries. Music went digital quite a while before video and the content providers were caught unawares. It's a pretty safe bet that, if they could, the music producers would prevent you from doing a lot of things.

  • Is there a plugin/convertor to convert MOV to AVCHD?

I want to burn a AVCHD DVD with MOV or Mpeg file. Is there any plugin in FCP that can export the video to AVCHD? Or any convertor for Mac?

Compressor will burn a Blu-Ray compatible disc. The AVCHD files are created on the HD, you can nab them from there...

  • ITunes movie purchase to DVD? or stream to Xbox?

I was wondering if iTunes supported burning a movie purchase to DVD? If it doesn't how well does streaming it to an XBox work with Windows Media player? I assume Xbox has the codec like it does for iTunes music?
I dont have any movie purchases currently so I cant test it and if these methods dont work or work well I am just going to buy the DVD. Was just hoping to get an HD version digitally to work with my setup.

I do not believe that Real Player Plus can burn any videos purchased from the iTunes Store to video DVD. RP Plus can burn non-protected videos from iTunes, but not the copy-protected files from the iTunes Store. If you have yourself successfully burned videos from the iTunes Store to a vide DVD (one that plays in a standard DVD player) with Real Player Plus, I'm sure many of us would be interested in such confirmation, as it would indicate that Real has hacked Apple's DRM in some way.

  • HT204382 I want to convert an .avi movie to a format where I can cut a DVD. I have OS X lion operating system

I want to convert an .ave movie to be able to create a dvd. What software do I need?      Thanks

Thanks Kappy, this helped. I was able to convert the .avi file to mp4 making it possible to view the movie. However, I was unable to burn it.  I downloaded a program called express burn from prism and was able to burn the .avi file to a dvd .vob. format.
If you are using a 4gb dvd you may have to change the setting to medium quality depending on the movie size. Hope this helps.

  • I need an app for my Mac Pro to convert MP4 to MOV  format to play in a DVD player

I need an app for my Mac Book Pro to convert MP4 to MOV  format to play in a DVD player.  Thanks

    Quicktime can do this.
Open the MP4 in Quicktime Player. From the menu bar, File >Export > select quality. The subsequent file will be saved as .mov
Alternatively, you can simply change the extension on the mp4 file to mov since the codec is the same.
*I should mention that .mov format is not DVD format (TS_VIDEO), and the DVD will not play in a DVD player, even if you successfully burn the file to it.
